Definitions
- the invention relates to a round cell of the type defined in more detail in the preamble of claim 1, as well as a battery module and a vehicle.
- Battery-powered vehicles store the electricity required by electric motors in a so-called traction battery.
- a traction battery can include one or more battery modules.
- Such a battery module in turn typically includes a large number of individual galvanic cells.
- a galvanic cell that is used particularly frequently to form traction batteries is the so-called round cell. This consists of a metal cup enclosing a cell coil and a lid sealing the cup against the environment. Typically, the cup and the lid each form a battery pole.
- the cup can form both the positive pole and the negative pole of the round cell.
- the lid can also have the plus or
- the positive pole is usually made of aluminum and the negative pole is made of copper, steel or nickel-plated steel.
- the round cells are connected via so-called cell connectors.
- the cell connectors are mostly made of aluminum manufactured. Since copper and aluminum are difficult to connect, for example by means of welding, a process for connecting a plurality of round cells is particularly complex and expensive, and there is a risk that individual contacts will be of poor quality. This can lead to the contacts coming loose during operation or to an excessively high electrical resistance between two cells connected via a cell connector.
- the present invention is based on the object of specifying an improved round cell which can be connected in parallel and/or in series with other round cells in a particularly reliable manner, which is particularly light and which can be installed easily and inexpensively.
- this object is achieved by a round cell having the features of claim 1.
- Advantageous refinements and developments as well as a battery module with such a round cell and a vehicle with such a battery module result from the dependent claims.
- contact points of the positive pole and the negative pole that reach towards the outside of the cell comprise aluminum or an aluminum alloy.
- the round cell according to the invention has a positive pole and a negative pole made from the same material.
- aluminum is also used to form cell connectors.
- the round cell according to the invention can thus be connected up in a particularly simple, cost-effective and reliable manner.
- a cell connector can be welded to such a round cell. Any pairing of materials that occurs is always aluminum on aluminum. This enables a particularly simple welding process and enables reliable welded joints to be produced. This allows cell connectors to be designed in a geometrically simpler and more compact manner. Weight can be saved by reducing material.
- An advantageous development of the round cell provides that the contact point of the negative pole, which reaches into the interior of the cell, comprises copper or a copper alloy.
- the cell coil included in a round cell typically includes one or more copper foils.
- a copper collector of the cell winding is connected to a negative pole containing aluminum inside the round cell.
- a material transition of the negative pole lies within a cover assembly.
- the negative pole can be made comparatively compact, which means that the weight of the round cell can be reduced.
- Battery modules and traction batteries can thus be designed more easily, as a result of which the energy consumption of a vehicle during operation can be reduced.
- An electrically non-conductive seal can be fitted between the cover assembly and the negative pole for insulation.
- a further advantageous embodiment of the round cell also provides that the negative pole is made from at least two individual parts which are joined by friction welding or casting.
- the part of the negative pole made of copper and the part of the negative pole made of aluminum can be connected particularly easily and reliably by friction welding and casting.
- friction welding is suitable for large-scale production.
- the negative pole is preferably set up to have an electrical resistance within a defined tolerance range for at least 10 years. Aging can increase the electrical resistance of individual electronic components over time. A power delivered by a battery module thus falls. Such a drop in performance must be prevented as far as possible.
- Appropriate protective measures can slow down the aging process of the negative pole, i.e. the material combination of copper and aluminum. This prevents the resistance of the negative pole from increasing too quickly.
- the specified tolerance range can correspond to a value of 0.1 ohms per year, for example.
- the round cell according to the invention is designed in such a way that sufficient mechanical strength or resilience is ensured for the intended service life.
- a battery module comprises at least one round cell as described above.
- a vehicle preferably includes a battery module with at least one such round cell.
- the vehicle can be any vehicle such as a car, van, bus, construction machine or the like.
- the vehicle can be designed as a purely battery-powered vehicle or as a hybrid vehicle.
- the hybrid vehicle in turn, can also be designed as a plug-in hybrid. In such a vehicle, the traction battery can be used reliably over a comparatively long service life range.
- the only figure shows a schematic sectional view through a round cell according to the invention in a partially exploded view.
- the only attached figure 1 shows a round cell 1 according to the invention.
- This comprises a cup 4 which encloses a cell coil 5 in some areas.
- the cup 4 has an opening on one end, which is closed by a cover assembly 2 .
- the representation of the figure shows a partially exploded round cell 1, in which the cover assembly 2 is shown lifted from the cup 4.
- the cup 4 and the cover assembly 2 are made of aluminum and form a positive pole +.
- a negative pole - the round cell 1 is formed by two items 3.1 and 3.2.
- the two individual parts 3.1 and 3.2 are let into the cover assembly 2 via a seal 6 for electrical insulation.
- a first individual part 3.1 comprises aluminum or an aluminum alloy and is oriented towards the outside of the cell.
- a second individual part 3.2 comprises copper or a copper alloy and is oriented in the direction of the interior of the cell.
- the second item 3.2 is electrically conductively connected to a copper collector 7 of the cell coil 5 .
- the contact between the copper conductor 7 and the second individual part 3.2 can be produced, for example, by welding.
- a cell connector 8 comprising aluminum or an aluminum alloy is electrically conductively contacted with the first individual part 3.1. This contact can also be made, for example, by welding.
- a cell connector 8 is also electrically conductively contacted with the positive pole + of the round cell 1.
- the positive cell connector 8 is connected to the lid assembly 2 . In general, however, it is also possible for the positive pole + to be in contact with a corresponding cell connector 8 in the area of the cup 4 .
- round cells 1 can be connected up in a particularly simple, cost-effective and reliable manner. Since both the positive pole + and the negative pole - include the same material, work steps for connecting a plurality of round cells 1 can be simplified. In addition, only pairs of materials made of the same material are required, which are easier to produce than pairs of materials made of different materials and which can also be designed to be more reliable both mechanically and electrically conductively.
