Description

燃料電池のエージング方法
 本発明は、燃料電池のエージング方法に関する。
 燃料電池は、電解質膜と、電解質膜の両面の各々に積層された一対の電極と、を有する電解質膜・電極構造体(MEA)、及びMEAの電極面の各々に設置された一対のセパレータ(バイポーラ板)を備える。この燃料電池は、複数積層されることで、燃料電池スタックに組み立てられる。燃料電池スタック(又は燃料電池)の製造では、組立後に、燃料電池の発電性能を引き出すためにエージングを行っている。
 例えば、特開2020-57572号公報には、製造された燃料電池スタックをエージング用のブースに収容し、エージング装置(発電装置)を用いて発電を行うエージングが開示されている。
 この種のエージングは、発電時に加湿した水素ガスを供給して、水素から電子が電離したプロトンを電解質膜に透過させることで、電解質膜内の加湿を行う。しかしながら、水素ガスの供給と加湿とは、トレードオフの関係にあり、水素ガスに随伴する水を増やすと、電極に液水膜が生じてガス拡散性が低下してしまい、プロトンの発生量が減少することになる。逆に、水素ガスに随伴する水を減らすと、電解質膜の加湿が不充分になる。
 本発明は、上記の実情を鑑みたものであり、電解質膜の加湿を一層促進することが可能となり、これによりエージングの効率化を図ることができる燃料電池のエージング方法を提供することを目的とする。
 前記の目的を達成するために、本発明の一態様は、電解質膜と、前記電解質膜の両面に設けられた一対の電極と、を有する燃料電池のエージング方法であって、プロトンに分離可能な水素をウルトラファインバブルとして有する水素ウルトラファインバブル水を、前記燃料電池の一方の電極に供給し、前記一方の電極から前記電解質膜を通して他方の電極に前記プロトンを移動させるウルトラファインバブルエージングを行う。
 上記の燃料電池のエージング方法は、電解質膜の加湿を一層促進することが可能となり、これによりエージングの効率化を図ることができる。

 以下、本発明について好適な実施形態を挙げ、添付の図面を参照して詳細に説明する。
〔第1実施形態〕
 本発明の第1実施形態に係る燃料電池10のエージング方法は、図1に示すエージング装置50を使用する。エージング装置50には、単位発電セルである燃料電池10を複数積層した燃料電池スタック12がセットされる。エージング装置50は、燃料電池スタック12に対して、ウルトラファインバブル(以下、UFBと略す場合もある)を有する液体を供給するウルトラファインバブルエージングを実施することで、燃料電池スタック12の発電性能を高める。以下、発明の理解の容易化のために、まず燃料電池スタック12の構成について説明する。
 燃料電池スタック12は、複数の燃料電池10を積層した積層体14を、スタックケース(不図示)に収容して構成されている。図2に示すように、燃料電池10は、外周部に樹脂枠19を有する電解質膜・電極構造体18(以下、MEA18という)と、MEA18の両面にそれぞれ積層される第1セパレータ20a及び第2セパレータ20bとを有する。燃料電池10は、第1セパレータ20aとMEA18の間に水素等のアノードガス(燃料ガス)が流通する一方で、第2セパレータ20bとMEA18の間に酸素等のカソードガス(酸化剤ガス)が流通することで、アノードガス及びカソードガスの電気化学反応により発電する。
 MEA18は、電解質膜22と、電解質膜22の一方面に設けられるアノード電極24と、電解質膜22の他方面に設けられるカソード電極26とを有する。電解質膜22は、例えば、水分を含んだパーフルオロスルホン酸の薄膜である固体高分子電解質膜(陽イオン交換膜)が適用される。なお、電解質膜22は、フッ素系電解質の他、HC(炭化水素)系電解質を使用することができる。
 アノード電極24及びカソード電極26の各々は、電解質膜22に接合される触媒層24a、26aと、触媒層24a、26aに積層される緻密カーボン層24b、26bと、緻密カーボン層24b、26bに積層されるガス拡散層24c、26cと、を有する(図4参照)。触媒層24a、26aは、例えば、白金合金が表面に担持された多孔質カーボン粒子が、イオン導電性高分子バインダと共にカーボンペーパ又はカーボンクロス等の表面に一様に塗布されることで形成される。触媒層24a、26aは、複数の細孔の平均的な径(平均細孔径)が50~80nm前後となっている。緻密カーボン層24b、26bは、カーボンペーパ又はカーボンクロス等から形成され、その平均細孔径が400~600nm前後となっている。ガス拡散層24cは、カーボンペーパ又はカーボンクロス等から形成され、その平均細孔径が30~50×10nm前後となっている。
 第1セパレータ20a及び第2セパレータ20bは、例えば、鋼板、ステンレス鋼板、アルミニウム板、めっき処理鋼板、又はその金属表面に防食用の表面処理を施した金属プレートをプレスして断面を凹凸に形成して構成される。燃料電池スタック12の製造では、一の燃料電池10の第1セパレータ20aと、他の燃料電池10の第2セパレータ20bとの外周同士を接合した接合セパレータを形成し、この接合セパレータとMEA18を積層することで、積層体14を構築していく。
 第1セパレータ20aは、アノードガスを流動させるアノード流路30を、MEA18のアノード電極24に対向する面に備える。アノード流路30は、第1セパレータ20aの長手方向に延在する複数本の突条部31間に形成された直線状流路溝(又は波状流路溝)によって構成される。
 第2セパレータ20bは、カソードガスを流動させるカソード流路32を、MEA18のカソード電極26に対向する面に備える(図2中では、便宜的にカソード電極26上にカソードガスの流通方向を図示している)。カソード流路32は、第2セパレータ20bの長手方向に延在する複数本の突条部33間に形成された直線状流路溝(又は波状流路溝)によって構成される。
 また、第1セパレータ20aと第2セパレータ20bとが接触し合う面の間には、冷媒(例えば、水)を流通させる冷媒流路34が形成される。冷媒流路34は、第1セパレータ20aのアノード流路30の裏面形状と、第2セパレータ20bのカソード流路32の裏面形状とが重なり合うことで形成される。
 さらに、燃料電池10は、アノードガス、カソードガス及び冷媒を積層体14の積層方向に流通させる流体連通孔36を複数備える。
 燃料電池10の長辺方向の一端縁部には、流体連通孔36として1つのアノードガス入口連通孔38a、2つのカソードガス出口連通孔40b及び冷媒入口連通孔42aが設けられる。アノードガス入口連通孔38aは、第1セパレータ20aのアノード流路30に連通し、アノード流路30にアノードガスを流入させる。2つの冷媒入口連通孔42aは、第1及び第2セパレータ20a、20b間の冷媒流路34に連通し、冷媒流路34に冷媒を流入させる。2つのカソードガス出口連通孔40bは、第2セパレータ20bのカソード流路32に連通し、カソード流路32からカソードガスを流出させる。
 燃料電池10の長辺方向の他端縁部には、流体連通孔36として1つのカソードガス入口連通孔40aと、2つのアノードガス出口連通孔38bと、2つの冷媒出口連通孔42bとが設けられる。カソードガス入口連通孔40aは、第2セパレータ20bのカソード流路32に連通し、カソード流路32にカソードガスを流入させる。2つの冷媒出口連通孔42bは、第1及び第2セパレータ20a、20b間の冷媒流路34に連通し、冷媒流路34から冷媒を流出させる。2つのアノードガス出口連通孔38bは、第1セパレータ20aのアノード流路30に連通し、アノード流路30からアノードガスを流出させる。なお、流体連通孔36の位置や数、形状等は、要求される仕様に応じて適宜設定されればよい。
 また図1に示すように、積層体14の積層方向の一端部には、ターミナルプレート44a、インシュレータ46a及びエンドプレート48aが外方に向かって順に積層される。積層体14の積層方向の他端には、ターミナルプレート44b、インシュレータ46b及びエンドプレート48bが外方に向かって順に積層される。各エンドプレート48a、48bは、スタックケースの一部を構成している。上記の各流体連通孔36は、積層体14の積層方向の一端部(又は両端部)にも貫通形成され、エンドプレート48aの外面に取り付けられる各配管(不図示)に連通している。
 次に、本実施形態に係るエージング装置50について説明する。エージング装置50は、燃料電池スタック12を配置する配置部52と、燃料電池スタック12に液体を流通させる第1流通部60及び第2流通部70と、燃料電池スタック12に電位を印加する電圧印加部80と、を有する。また、エージング装置50は、装置全体の動作を制御する制御部54を備える。
 配置部52は、燃料電池スタック12をセット可能な空間を有し、セットされた燃料電池スタック12(エンドプレート48a)の各流体連通孔36にそれぞれ接続可能な複数の配管(不図示)を有する。また、エージング装置50は、配置部52にセットされた燃料電池スタック12の一対のターミナルプレート44a、44bと、電圧印加部80と、を一対のハーネス56により接続している。
 第1流通部60は、配置部52の所定の配管に接続される液体の第1循環経路61を有する。第1循環経路61は、流路を内側に有する金属管等により構成され、配置部52にセットされた燃料電池スタック12のアノードガス入口連通孔38a及びアノードガス出口連通孔38bに接続される。すなわち、第1循環経路61は、燃料電池スタック12内の燃料電池10のアノード電極24に液体を流通させる。
 また、第1流通部60は、液体として、ウルトラファインバブル(UFB)を水に混合させたウルトラファインバブル水(UFB水)を、アノード電極24に流通させる。このため、第1流通部60は、第1ウルトラファインバブル生成部(第1UFB生成部62)を第1循環経路61の所定位置に備える。
 UFBは、バブル径がマイクロバブルよりも小さいバブル(例えば、バブル径が10nmよりも小さいバブル)を言う。本実施形態に係る第1UFB生成部62は、平均的なバブル径が約100nm~150nmのUFBを生成する。UFBは、液体中でも負コロイドとしてマイナスに帯電しており、UFB同士の結合がなく、また浮上し難いので、気泡数密度が減らずに液体中に長期滞在することが可能である。
 具体的には、第1UFB生成部62は、第1循環経路61を循環する水にUFBを混合する混合部63と、混合部63に接続される2種類のガス源(Hガス源64、Nガス源65)と、を有する。第1UFB生成部62は、2種類のガス源のいずれか一方のガスを混合部63に供給し、混合部63にて、供給されたガスのUFBを有するUFB水を生成する。すなわち、第1UFB生成部62は、水素のUFB(HUFB)を有する水素ウルトラファインバブル水(HUFB水)、及び窒素のUFB(NUFB)を有する窒素ウルトラファインバブル水(NUFB水)を選択的に生成することが可能である。
 第1UFB生成部62の混合部63は、配置部52にUFB水を供給する供給口52aの近傍位置に設けられ、制御部54の制御下に適宜動作する。混合部63の構成は、特に限定されず、供給されるガス及び水からUFB水を生成可能な周知の装置を適用し得る。例えば、混合部63は、ガスを水に加圧溶解させた溶解液を、低圧下に噴出及び循環させる処理を繰り返す加圧溶解方式を適用することができる。
 第1流通部60は、上記の第1UFB生成部62の他に、液体を循環させる第1ポンプ66と、第1循環経路61の流路を開閉する第1弁67と、を第1循環経路61に備える。第1ポンプ66は、制御部54により回転速度が制御されることで、適宜の流速で液体を循環させる。第1弁67は、制御部54の制御下に開度が変更されることで、第1循環経路61内の液体の圧力を調整すると共に、閉塞状態で液体の流通を遮断する。
 また、第1循環経路61には、液体の循環状態に関わる情報を検出する図示しない複数のセンサが設けられ、各センサは、制御部54に情報通信可能に接続されている。例えば、複数のセンサとして第1循環経路61内の圧力を検出する圧力センサ、液体の流量を検出する流量センサ、UFBの量を検出する気泡センサ又は濃度センサ等があげられる。
 さらに、第1循環経路61には、当該第1循環経路61に水を供給する第1水供給部68、及び当該第1循環経路61から液体を排出する第1排出経路69が接続されている。第1水供給部68は、例えば、市水に接続され、不純物を取り除く水処理部、タンク及び弁(共に不図示)等の構成を有し、制御部54の制御下に、第1循環経路61に水を供給する。第1排出経路69は、制御部54の制御下に開閉する第1排出弁69aを備え、第1排出弁69aの閉弁状態で第1循環経路61の液体の排出を遮断し、第1排出弁69aの開弁状態で第1循環経路61の液体を排出する。
 一方、第2流通部70は、配置部52の所定の配管に接続される液体の第2循環経路71を有する。第2循環経路71は、流路を内側に有する金属管等により構成され、配置部52にセットされた燃料電池スタック12のカソードガス入口連通孔40a及びカソードガス出口連通孔40bに接続される。すなわち、第2循環経路71は、燃料電池スタック12内の燃料電池10のカソード電極26に液体を流通させる。
 この第2循環経路71には、第1循環経路61と同様に、混合部73、Hガス源74及びNガス源75を有する第2UFB生成部72と、第2ポンプ76と、第2弁77と、図示しない複数のセンサとが設けられている。また、第2循環経路71には、第2水供給部78、及び第2排出弁79aを有する第2排出経路79が接続されている。第2流通部70の各構成も、第1流通部60の各構成と同じものを適用可能であり、制御部54の制御下に動作する。よって、具体的な説明については省略する。
 また、エージング装置50の電圧印加部80は、配置部52に配置された燃料電池スタック12の一対のターミナルプレート44a、44bに、ハーネス56を介して電気的に接続されると共に、制御部54に通信可能に接続される。電圧印加部80は、制御部54の制御下に、各燃料電池10のアノード電極24及びカソード電極26に適宜の電位を印加する。
 具体的には、電圧印加部80は、電源部82、スイッチ部84及び電圧制御部86を有する。電源部82及びスイッチ部84は、並列接続した2つの電源82a、82bの正極と負極が相互に逆向きになっており、且つ各電源の通電及び遮断を切り替え可能な等価回路を構成している。従って、電圧印加部80は、制御部54によるスイッチ部84の切り替え下に、一方の電源82aが燃料電池10のアノード電極24に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加し、カソード電極26にプラス電位を印加する。逆に、電圧印加部80は、制御部54によるスイッチ部84の切り替え下に、他方の電源82bがアノード電極24にプラス電位、及びカソード電極26に他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加する。
 電圧印加部80の電圧制御部86は、電源部82の通電状態で、燃料電池スタック12に出力する電圧を調整する。電圧値は、燃料電池10の積層数に応じて適切な値に設定されればよく、例えば単位燃料電池(1セル)当たりの電圧が、数mV~約1Vの範囲となるように設定される。
 さらに、エージング装置50は、燃料電池スタック12の一対のターミナルプレート44a、44bに、ハーネス56を介して電気的に接続されると共に、制御部54に通信可能に接続される電子負荷部(電子負荷装置:不図示)を有する。電子負荷部は、特に発電時(発電エージング又は特性評価の発電)のアノード-カソード間の大電流印加に使用され、制御部54の制御下に、各燃料電池10のアノード電極24及びカソード電極26に適宜の電流を印加する。
 なお、図示は省略するが、エージング装置50は、配置部52に配置された燃料電池スタック12の冷媒出口連通孔42b、冷媒入口連通孔42a及び冷媒流路34に対して、冷媒(水)を循環させる冷媒循環部を備えていてもよい。
 エージング装置50の制御部54は、1以上のプロセッサ、メモリ、入出力インタフェース及び電子回路を有する(共に不図示)。メモリに記憶された図示しないプログラムを1以上のプロセッサが実行することで、制御部54内には、燃料電池システムの各構成を制御するための機能ブロックが複数形成される。なお、各機能ブロックの少なくとも一部が、ASIC(Application Specific Integrated Circuit)、FPGA(Field-Programmable Gate Array)等の集積回路、ディスクリートデバイスを含む電子回路により構成されてもよい。またメモリは、プロセッサや集積回路等に付随してもよい。
 ここで、第1実施形態に係る燃料電池10のエージング方法は、UFBエージングにおいてプロトン(H)をMEA18内に通すために、濃淡電池の原理を利用する。濃淡電池は、燃料電池10に供給するHUFB水によって、MEA18のアノード電極24とカソード電極26に水素(H)の濃度差を作り、MEA18内で濃度の平衡化を促すことで、プロトンを移動させる。
 制御部54は、上記の第1流通部60、第2流通部70及び電圧印加部80の動作を制御することで、図3A及び図3Bに示すように、2つのパターンのUFBエージング(濃淡電池)を実施することができる。第1パターンは、アノード電極24に、HUFB水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加する一方で、カソード電極26に、NUFB水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加する供給印加パターンである。第2パターンは、アノード電極24に、NUFB水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加する一方で、カソード電極26に、HUFB水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加する逆供給印加パターンである。
 なお、エージング装置50は、電圧印加部80の代わりに図示しない電子負荷部を使用して、アノード又はカソード側のどちらか片側に(又は交互に)電流を印加することにより、電圧印加部80と同様の電位差をかけることも可能である。
 制御部54は、UFBエージング(濃淡電池)において、第1パターン又は第2パターンを単独で実施してもよく、第1パターンと第2パターンを所定期間毎に交互に実施してもよい。以下、第1パターン及び第2パターンにおいてUFB水を供給することによる燃料電池10の作用について説明していく。
 第1パターンにおいて、エージング装置50は、図4に示すように、第1流通部60によりアノード流路30及びアノード電極24にHUFBを供給し、第2流通部70によりカソード流路32及びカソード電極26にNUFBを供給する。これにより、MEA18は、アノード電極24側においてH濃度が高濃度になり、カソード電極26側においてH濃度が低濃度になる。従って、Hの濃度差が平衡になるように、MEA18では、電解質膜22を通してアノード電極24からカソード電極26にプロトンが流れる動きが作られる。また上記したように、HUFBの表面電位がマイナスに帯電しているため、アノード電極24内のHUFBが、電圧印加部80からターミナルプレート44a、44bへの電力供給によりプラスに印加されたカソード電極26側に向かうように移動を促すことができる。
 この際、アノード流路30に供給されたHUFBは、ガス拡散層24c及び緻密カーボン層24bの平均細孔径よりも小さいバブル径となっている。このため、HUFBは、ガス拡散層24c及び緻密カーボン層24bにおいて、バブルが壊れることなく移動する。そして触媒層24aでは、その平均細孔径がHUFBのバブル径よりも小さいことで、HUFBが容易に破裂して、H分子となる。すなわち、UFBエージングは、H分子及び水分子(HO)の両方を触媒層24aに充分に行き渡らせることができる。
 触媒層24aに移動したHは、白金触媒と反応し、プロトン(H)と電子(e)に電離する。電離したプロトンは、電気浸透水を伴ってMEA18内をアノード側からカソード側に移動する。一方、電子は、アノード電極24に接触する第1セパレータ20aに移動し、ハーネス56及び電圧印加部80を介して第2セパレータ20bに移動する。
 一方、カソード電極26に供給されたNUFBは、ガス拡散層26c、緻密カーボン層26b及び触媒層26aに分散する。このNUFBは、白金触媒と反応しないことで、触媒層26aでの不要な反応(酸素、プロトン、電子による反応)を抑制する。これにより、MEA18を介して移動したプロトンとカソード電極26の電子が、触媒層26aの白金触媒と反応することで、H分子となる。カソード電極26で生成されたH分子は、NUFB水と共に燃料電池10から排出される。
 また、エージング装置50は、第1パターンの実施時に、アノード電極24側の圧力をカソード電極26側の圧力よりも高くする制御を行ってもよい。具体的には、制御部54は、第1弁67の開度を第2弁77の開度よりも小さくすると共に、第1水供給部68の水の供給量及び第1ポンプ66の回転速度を、第2水供給部78の水の供給量及び第2ポンプ76の回転速度よりも増やす。これにより、エージング装置50は、第1循環経路61及び燃料電池スタック12内(アノード流路30)の水圧を、第2循環経路71及び燃料電池スタック12内(カソード流路32)の水圧よりも高くすることができる。
 例えば、エージング装置50は、カソード電極26側の圧力に対するアノード電極24側の圧力(差圧)を、50kPa~150kPa程度高くする。このように、HUFBを供給する側の圧力が高いことで、アノード電極24側に供給されるHUFB水のHUFBが触媒層24aに一層移動し易くなり、触媒層24aにてプロトンを効率よく生成することが可能となる。
 一方、第2パターンにおいて、エージング装置50は、図5に示すように、第1流通部60によりアノード流路30及びアノード電極24にNUFB水を供給する一方で、第2流通部70によりカソード流路32及びカソード電極26にHUFB水を供給する。これにより、MEA18では、Hの濃度差が平衡になるように、電解質膜22を通してカソード電極26からアノード電極24にプロトンが流れる動きが作られる。
 この際、カソード流路32に供給されたHUFBは、ガス拡散層26c及び緻密カーボン層26bを通って触媒層26aに移動し、触媒層26aにて破裂することで、触媒層26aにH分子が容易に拡散する。触媒層26aのH分子は、白金触媒と反応し、プロトン(H)と電子(e)に電離する。電離したプロトンは、電気浸透水を伴ってMEA18内をカソード側からアノード側に移動する。一方、電子は、カソード電極26に接触する第2セパレータ20bに移動し、ハーネス56及び電圧印加部80を介して第1セパレータ20aに移動する。
 これにより、アノード電極24において、MEA18を介して移動したプロトンとアノード電極24の電子が、触媒層24aの白金触媒と反応することで、H分子となる。アノード電極24で生成されたH分子は、NUFB水と共に排出される。
 また第2パターンの実施時にも、エージング装置50は、カソード電極26側の圧力をアノード電極24側の圧力よりも高くする制御を行うとよい。つまり、制御部54は、第2弁77の開度を第1弁67の開度よりも小さくすると共に、第2水供給部78の水の供給量及び第2ポンプ76の回転速度を、第1水供給部68の水の供給量及び第1ポンプ66の回転速度よりも増やす。これにより、エージング装置50は、アノード電極24側の圧力に対するカソード電極26側の圧力(差圧)が充分に高くなって、カソード電極26の触媒層26aから電解質膜22に、プロトンを効率よく向かわせることができる。
 なお、制御部54は、第1パターンと第2パターンを交互に実施し、且つ一対の電極間で差圧をつける制御を行う場合に、第1パターンと第2パターンの切り替え時に、電解質膜22の過負荷を抑えるため、コンディショニング工程を実施することが好ましい。このコンディショニング工程では、一対の電極間の差圧を小さくする(又はゼロにする)ために、圧力が高いHUFB水の供給側の循環経路からHUFB水を排出するパージ制御を行う。
 また、HUFB水を供給していた電極にはH分子が残存し易い。このため第1パターンと第2パターンの切り替え時に、コンディショニング工程として、HUFB水の供給側だった電極に、NUFB水を供給するN供給制御を行うことが好ましい。
 例えば、コンディショニング工程において、制御部54は、パージ制御を実施しつつ、N供給制御を合わせて実施することで、差圧の解消及び電極からの残水素の除去を効率的に行うことができる。
 本実施形態に係るエージング装置50は、基本的には以上のように構成されるものであり、以下、燃料電池10のエージング方法について図6Aを参照して説明する。具体的には、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、UFBエージング(ステップS1)、Nパージ(ステップS2)、CVエージング(ステップS3)、性能評価(ステップS4)を順に実施する。
 ステップS1のUFBエージングは、主に、電解質膜22の湿潤を高めることで、プロトンを移動し易くする処理である。このUFBエージングにおいて、上記したエージング装置50を適用することで、製造後の燃料電池スタック12にUFB水(HUFB、NUFB)を供給する。これにより、アノード電極24及びカソード電極26におけるガス拡散性が向上し、電解質膜22の湿潤を効率的に高めることが可能となる。
 例えば、UFBエージングにおいて、エージング装置50は、上記した第1パターン(供給印加パターン)と、第2パターン(逆供給印加パターン)とを交互に実施する。この場合、図6Bに示すように、制御部54は、第1パターンの実施(ステップS1-1)、第1パターンの終了判定(ステップS1-2)、コンディショニング工程(ステップS1-3)、第2パターンの実施(ステップS1-4)、第2パターンの終了判定(ステップS1-5)、コンディショニング工程(ステップS1-6)を、UFBエージングが終了するまで繰り返して行う。
 第1パターンの実施において、制御部54は、第1流通部60の第1ポンプ66、第1水供給部68、及び第2流通部70の第2ポンプ76、第2水供給部78を制御して、アノード電極24及びカソード電極26に水を循環させる。そして、制御部54は、第1UFB生成部62を制御してHガス源64からHを供給することで混合部63にてHUFBを生成し、第2UFB生成部72を制御してNガス源75からNを供給することで混合部73にてNUFBを生成する。これにより、エージング装置50は、アノード電極24にHUFB水を供給し、カソード電極26にNUFB水を供給する。
 この際、制御部54は、第1流通部60の第1ポンプ66、第1水供給部68、第1弁67を制御して、HUFB水を供給するアノード電極24側の圧力を、NUFB水を供給するカソード電極26側の圧力よりも高くする。これにより、多量のHUFBがアノード電極24の触媒層24aに円滑に移動するようになる。また、制御部54は、アノード電極24側の圧力が高まった段階で、第1ポンプ66を停止すると共に第1弁67を閉じることで、HUFB水の循環を停止してもよい。この停止によって、アノード電極24にHUFB水を確実に留めることができる。
 そして、制御部54は、アノード電極24にHUFB水が供給されている最中に、電圧印加部80により、アノード電極24に他極と比べてマイナス電位、カソード電極26にプラス電位を印加する。以上の制御により、図4に示すように、MEA18のアノード電極24の触媒層24a内では、多量のHUFBが破裂してH分子になる。そして、H分子は、白金触媒と反応してプロトン及び電子に電離し、このプロトンが電気浸透水を伴って電解質膜22を透過することで、カソード電極26に移動する。カソード電極26の触媒層26a内では、電解質膜22を移動してきたプロトンと電子が白金触媒と反応してH分子となる。
 また第1パターンの実施中に、制御部54は、アノード電極24に対するHUFB水の供給を、所定の供給期間(循環停止の期間を含む)にわたって実施したか否かを判定し、供給期間が経過していない場合には、同じHUFB水の使用を維持する。つまり、制御部54は、燃料電池スタック12と第1循環経路61との間でHUFB水を継続的に循環させる。逆に、所定の供給期間が経過した場合には、第1循環経路61からHUFB水を排水して、新たなHUFB水を第1循環経路61に供給する。これにより、エージング装置50は、第1UFB生成部62により生成したHUFB水を充分に使い回した後に、第1循環経路61から排出することになり、Hの消費を低減することができる。
 図6Bに戻り、制御部54は、第1パターンを所定期間実施したか否かを判定し(ステップS1-2)、所定期間実施していない場合(ステップS1-2:NO)には、第1パターンを継続する一方で、所定期間実施した場合(ステップS1-2:YES)には、コンディショニング工程に移行する(ステップS1-3)。コンディショニング工程において、制御部54は、第1弁67を全開にすると共に、第1排出経路69の第1排出弁69aを開放して、アノード電極24側のHUFBを排出する。これに対し、カソード電極26側は第2排出弁79aを開放しないことで、第2循環経路71の循環(又は第2弁77の閉塞による循環停止)を維持する。これにより、アノード電極24側のHUFB水の水圧が減少し、カソード電極26側との差圧が減少する。
 また、制御部54は、第1循環経路61からのHUFB水の排出を実施しつつ、第1流通部60の第1UFB生成部62、第1ポンプ66を動作して、アノード電極24側にNUFB水を供給する。このNUFB水の供給によって、電解質膜22や触媒層24aの湿潤を維持しつつ、アノード電極24に残るH分子が排出される。そして、制御部54は、以上のコンディショニング工程を設定期間実施すると(又はアノード電極24とカソード電極26の差圧が所定圧力以下になるまで実施すると)、コンディショニング工程を終了する。
 その後、制御部54は、第2パターンを実施する(ステップS1-4)。第2パターンの実施において、制御部54は、第1UFB生成部62を制御してNガス源65からNを供給することで混合部63にてNUFBを生成し、第2UFB生成部72を制御してHガス源74からHを供給することで混合部73にてHUFBを生成する。これにより、エージング装置50は、アノード電極24にNUFB水を供給し、カソード電極26にHUFB水を供給する。この際、制御部54は、HUFB水を供給するカソード電極26側の圧力を、NUFB水を供給するアノード電極24側の圧力よりも高くする。また、制御部54は、カソード電極26側の圧力が高まった段階で、第2ポンプ76を停止すると共に第2弁77を閉じることで、HUFB水の循環を停止してもよい。この停止によって、カソード電極26に高圧のHUFB水を確実に留めることができる。
 さらに、制御部54は、カソード電極26にHUFB水が供給されている最中に、電圧印加部80によりカソード電極26に他極と比べてマイナス電位、アノード電極24にプラス電位を印加する。以上の制御により、図5に示すように、カソード電極26において白金触媒と反応した多量のプロトンが、電気浸透水を伴って電解質膜22を透過する。そしてアノード電極24において、プロトンと電子が白金触媒と反応することで、H分子となる。
 また第2パターンの実施中も、制御部54は、カソード電極26に対するHUFB水の供給を、所定の供給期間(循環停止の期間を含む)にわたって実施したか否かを判定し、供給期間が経過していない場合には、HUFB水の使用を継続する。逆に、所定の供給期間が経過した場合には、第2循環経路71からHUFB水を排水して、新たなHUFB水を第2循環経路71に供給する。
 図6Bに戻り、制御部54は、第2パターンを所定期間実施したか否かを判定し(ステップS1-5)、所定期間実施していない場合(ステップS1-5:NO)には、第2パターンを継続する一方で、所定期間実施した場合(ステップS1-5:YES)には、コンディショニング工程を行う(ステップS1-6)。このコンディショニング工程では、ステップS1-3のコンディショニング工程と逆の制御を行う。
 すなわち、制御部54は、カソード電極26側のHUFBを排出してカソード電極26側のHUFB水の水圧を減少させ、カソード電極26側との差圧を減少させる。また、制御部54は、第2循環経路71からのHUFB水の排出を実施しつつ、カソード電極26側にNUFB水を供給する。このNUFB水の供給によって、電解質膜22や触媒層26aの湿潤を維持しつつ、カソード電極26に残るH分子を排出することが可能となる。そして、制御部54は、以上のコンディショニング工程を設定期間実施すると(又はカソード電極26とアノード電極24の差圧が所定圧力以下になるまで実施すると)、コンディショニング工程を終了する。
 エージング装置50は、以上の処理フローを設定した繰り返し回数又は設定期間にわたって継続することで、UFBエージングを終了する。そしてUFBエージングの終了後に、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、次のNパージを実施する(図6AのステップS2)。このNパージの処理は、UFBエージングで使用したエージング装置50を用いてもよく、別の装置を適用してよい。
 Nパージは、UFBエージング後の燃料電池スタック12のアノード流路30及びカソード流路32に、不活性ガスであるNガスを供給することで、燃料電池スタック12内に残る水、水素等を排出する処理である。例えば、同じエージング装置50を使用している場合には、第1循環経路61及び第2循環経路71の水を排出した後に、第1UFB生成部62のNガス源65から第1循環経路61にNガスを供給し、第2UFB生成部72のNガス源75から第2循環経路71にNガスを供給する。これにより、燃料電池スタック12は、電解質膜22の湿度調整がなされると共に、アノード電極24及びカソード電極26のフラッディングが防止される。なお、Nパージにおいて、Nガス以外の不活性ガスを適用してもよいことは勿論である。また、エージング装置50は、Nパージにおいて、Nガスを過加湿状態にした過加湿Nガスを供給してもよい。
 次に、ステップS3のCVエージング(電圧変動エージング)は、上記のUFBエージングで使用したエージング装置50を使用する、又は図示しないCVエージング装置を使用することにより、Nパージ後の燃料電池スタック12に変動電圧を印加する。このCVエージングによって、触媒の表面で酸化している被膜の除去、及び触媒に付着している有機コンタミ除去等がなされ、MEA18の触媒有効面積が増加する。その結果、燃料電池10の発電時におけるH→2H+eの反応、O+4H+4e→2HOの反応が促進される。また、先にUFBエージングを実施しているので、CVエージングでは電解質膜22においてプロトンが容易に移動するようになる。そのためCVエージングは、実施時間の短縮化を図ることが可能となる。
 最後に、ステップS4の性能評価では、適宜の評価方法によって、CVエージング後の燃料電池スタック12(燃料電池10)の発電性能を解析する。例えば、評価方法では、燃料電池スタック12の発電処理を行うことで、発電時のセル電圧や電流を検出する。ここで、UFBエージング及びCVエージングを実施した燃料電池スタック12は、IVカーブの濃度過電圧が低減すると共に、活性化過電圧が低減されている。従って、燃料電池スタック12の発電性能が大幅に向上している。
 以上のように、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、UFBエージング(濃淡電池)におけるUFB水(HUFB水、NUFB水)の供給によって、アノード電極24及びカソード電極26におけるH分子の移動性(拡散性)、及び濡れ性が向上する。つまり、UFBエージングの実施により、MEA18におけるプロトンの拡散係数が上昇して、これに伴い電解質膜22をプロトンが移動する際の電気浸透水量も上昇する。従って、MEA18(電解質膜22)の含水量を効率的に増大させることができる。
 本発明は、上記の実施形態に限定されず、発明の要旨に沿って種々の改変が可能である。例えば、エージング装置50は、複数の燃料電池10を有する燃料電池スタック12をUFBエージングするものに限定されず、適宜の改変を施すことで、単位発電セルである燃料電池10をUFBエージングする構成であってもよい。また例えば、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、UFBエージングの実施によって燃料電池10の発電性能が充分に高められた場合には、CVエージング(ステップS3)を省略してもよい。
 さらに、UFBの供給は、燃料電池10に対してUFBエージングを実施する際のみに限定されず、燃料電池スタック12(燃料電池10)の発電時に適用することもできる。例えば、燃料電池スタック12を有する燃料電池システム(不図示)又はエージング装置50は、アノード電極24に対してHUFBを含むHUFB水を供給する一方で、カソード電極26に対してO分子のUFBを含むOUFB水を供給する。これにより、MEA18の各触媒層にH分子及びO分子の各々を効率的に移動させることができ、燃料電池スタック12は、充分な発電電力を出力することが可能となる。また、エージング装置50は、上記の実施形態では、第1UFB生成部62及び第2UFB生成部72の各々にHガス源64、74及びNガス源65、75を設けたが、これに限定されず、Hガス源64、74及びNガス源65、75を共有した構成でよい。以下、エージング方法において、OUFB水を供給する構成、Hガス源64、74及びNガス源65、75を共有した変形例について、図7、図8A及び図8Bに例示して説明する。
 エージング装置50Aは、燃料電池スタック12のアノード流路30(アノード電極24)、カソード流路32(カソード電極26)及び冷媒流路34(図2参照)に、選択した流体(HUFB水、NUFB水、OUFB水、加湿したHガス、加湿したNガス、加湿したOガス)を供給する供給処理部90と、燃料電池スタック12から排出された各流体を処理する排出処理部92と、を有する。供給処理部90は、O(本変形例ではエア)及びNを供給する第1供給処理部94と、Hを供給する第2供給処理部96と、燃料電池スタック12と第1供給処理部94及び第2供給処理部96との間で流体の流路を切り換える供給流路切換部98と、を含む。排出処理部92は、O及びNの排出を処理する第1排出処理部100と、Hの排出を処理する第2排出処理部102と、燃料電池スタック12と第1排出処理部100及び第2排出処理部102との間で流体の流路を切り換える排出流路切換部104と、を含む。第1供給処理部94と第1排出処理部100の間には、第1排出処理部100の流体を循環させる第1循環経路106が接続されている。また、第2供給処理部96と第2排出処理部102の間には、第2排出処理部102の流体を循環させる第2循環経路108が接続されている。
 図8Aに示すように、第1供給処理部94は、エア源110と、エアUFB生成部112と、エアUFB用タンク114と、バブラータンク116と、Nガス源118と、NUFB生成部120と、NUFB用タンク122と、を備える。また、エアUFB生成部112、バブラータンク116、NUFB生成部120の各々には、水供給部124が接続されている。エアUFB生成部112は、エア源110から供給されたエアと、水供給部124から供給された水とを適宜混合してエアUFB水を生成する。エアUFB用タンク114は、生成されたエアUFB水を貯留すると共に、第1排出処理部100から循環したエアUFB水を貯留する。NUFB生成部120は、Nガス源118から供給されたNガスと、水供給部124から供給された水とを適宜混合してNUFB水を生成する。NUFB用タンク122は、生成されたNUFB水を貯留すると共に、第1排出処理部100から循環したNUFB水を貯留する。バブラータンク116は、エア源110、Nガス源118、水供給部124に接続され、タンク内に貯留された水に対してエア又はNガスを供給して発泡させることで、加湿したエア又は加湿したNガスを生成する。また、バブラータンク116は、図示しない温度調整部により温度を調整することで、ガスの温度と湿度をコントロールする。
 第1供給処理部94は、エア源110のエアをエアUFB生成部112とバブラータンク116に選択的に供給し、且つNガス源118のNガスをNUFB生成部120とバブラータンク116に選択的に供給するためのバルブ126a、126b、126c、126dを有する。さらに、第1供給処理部94は、エアUFB用タンク114と第1供給処理部94の出力端子94aとの間にポンプ128a及びバルブ130aを有し、バブラータンク116と出力端子94aとの間にポンプ128b及びバルブ130bを有し、NUFB用タンク122と出力端子94aとの間にポンプ128c及びバルブ130cを有する。またさらに、第1供給処理部94は、NUFB水を冷媒として燃料電池スタック12に供給するための経路を有し、この経路にもポンプ128d、バルブ130dを備える。以上のように構成された第1供給処理部94は、出力端子94aからNUFB水、OUFB水、加湿したNガス、加湿したOガスを、下流側の供給流路切換部98に出力することができる。
 一方、第2供給処理部96は、図8Bに示すように、Hガス源132と、HUFB生成部134と、HUFB用タンク136と、Hバブラータンク138と、を備える。また、HUFB生成部134、Hバブラータンク138の各々には、水供給部124が接続されている。HUFB生成部134は、Hガス源132から供給されたHガスと、水供給部124から供給された水とを適宜混合してHUFB水を生成する。HUFB用タンク136は、生成されたHUFB水を貯留すると共に、第2排出処理部102から循環したHUFB水を貯留する。Hバブラータンク138は、Hガス源132、水供給部124に接続され、タンク内に貯留された水に対してHガスを供給して発泡させることで、加湿したHガスを生成する。また、Hバブラータンク138も、図示しない温度調整部により温度を調整することで、ガスの温度と湿度をコントロールする。
 第2供給処理部96は、Hガス源132のHガスをHUFB生成部134とHバブラータンク138に選択的に供給するためのバルブ140a、140bを有し、さらにHUFB用タンク136と第2供給処理部96の出力端子96aとの間にポンプ142a及びバルブ144aを有すると共に、Hバブラータンク138と出力端子96aとの間にポンプ142b及びバルブ144bを有する。以上のように構成された第2供給処理部96は、出力端子96aからHUFB水、加湿したHガスを、下流側の供給流路切換部98に出力することができる。
 図7に戻り、供給流路切換部98は、第1供給処理部94と燃料電池スタック12との間、第2供給処理部96と燃料電池スタック12との間に複数の配管150を備える。また、複数の配管150の各々には、複数のバルブ152(バルブ152a、152b、152c、152d)が設けられている。このように構成された供給流路切換部98は、複数のバルブ152の切換下に、アノード電極24及びカソード電極26の一方に第1供給処理部94の流体を供給しつつ、アノード電極24及びカソード電極26の他方に第2供給処理部96の流体を供給する。
 同様に、排出流路切換部104は、第1排出処理部100と燃料電池スタック12との間、第2排出処理部102と燃料電池スタック12との間に複数の配管160を備える。また、複数の配管160の各々には、複数のバルブ162(バルブ162a、162b、162c、162d)が設けられている。このように構成された排出流路切換部104は、複数のバルブ162の切換下に、アノード電極24及びカソード電極26の一方から第1排出処理部100に流体を排出しつつ、アノード電極24及びカソード電極26の他方から第2排出処理部102に流体を排出する。
 第1排出処理部100は、NUFB水、OUFB水、Nガス、Oガスを回収する第1回収タンク170を有する。また、第1循環経路106は、第1排出処理部100の入力端子100aと第1回収タンク170との間に接続されている。入力端子100aと第1回収タンク170の間にはバルブ172aが設けられ、第1循環経路106にもバルブ172bが設けられる。このように構成された第1排出処理部100は、バルブ172a、172bの切換下に、NUFB水、OUFB水、Nガス、Oガスを、第1回収タンク170に排出させ、また第1循環経路106に流通させることができる。
 同様に、第2排出処理部102は、HUFB水、Hガスを回収する第2回収タンク174を有する。また、第2循環経路108は、第2排出処理部102の入力端子102aと第2回収タンク174との間に接続されている。入力端子102aと第2回収タンク174の間にはバルブ176aが設けられ、第2循環経路108にもバルブ176bが設けられる。このように構成された第2排出処理部102は、バルブ176a、176bの切換下に、HUFB水、Hガスを、第2回収タンク174に排出させ、また第2循環経路108に流通させることができる。
 以上のように構成されたエージング装置50Aは、アノード電極24にHUFB水を供給しつつ、カソード電極26にNUFB水を供給し、また電圧印加部80(図1参照)により電位を印加することで、上記の第1パターンを実施することができる。さらに、エージング装置50Aは、アノード電極24にNUFB水を供給しつつ、カソード電極26にHUFB水を供給し、電圧印加部80により電位を印加することで第2パターンを実施することができる。第1パターンと第2パターンの間のコンディショニング工程においても、供給流路切換部98及び排出流路切換部104により配管150、160を適宜切り替えることにより、上記したパージ制御やN供給制御を行うことができる。特に、第1供給処理部94は、N供給制御において、加湿したNガスを燃料電池スタック12に簡単に供給することができる。
 また、エージング装置50Aは、アノード電極24にHUFB水を供給し、カソード電極26にOUFB水を供給することで、燃料電池スタック12の発電を行うことができる。或いはエージングにおいて、エージング装置50Aは、アノード電極24にOUFB水を供給し、カソード電極26にHUFB水を供給することで、燃料電池スタック12の発電を行うこともできる。燃料電池スタック12の発電は、UFBエージングの実施中の第1パターンと第2パターンとを組み合わせて行ってもよく、UFBエージング後に実施してもよい。
 また、他の変形例として、燃料電池10を構成するセパレータ(第1セパレータ20a、第2セパレータ20b)は、相互に隣接するセパレータ同士の間に、流路から外部へのガス及び液体の漏れを防ぐシール部(不図示)を備えていてもよい。この場合、セパレータは、シール部の形成時に、シロキサン等の撥水性起因物質が飛散して発電部対向面に付着する恐れがある。よって、セパレータの製造時(UFBエージングの処理前又は処理中)に、UFB水によるセパレータの洗浄を実施することが好ましい。これにより、セパレータの微小な隙間にUFB水が入り込むことで、製造時に付着した撥水性起因物質を除去することができる。また、セパレータは、UFB水による洗浄で表面の親水性を高めることができ、このセパレータにより燃料電池10を構成することで、燃料電池10のエージング時間の短縮、又はセル電圧のばらつきの改善を期待することができる。
〔第2実施形態〕
 第2実施形態に係る燃料電池10のエージング方法は、UFBエージングにおいてプロトン(H)をMEA18内に通すために、水素ポンプの原理を利用する。水素ポンプでは、燃料電池10に接続した直流電源によって電子の流れを形成することにより、MEA18内で電子が多く存在する方向にプロトンを移動させる。すなわち、電流によりプロトンを動かす(ポンプする)方法である。
 ただし、この水素ポンプの原理を利用したUFBエージングでも、第1実施形態に係るエージング装置50と同じ装置を適用できる。具体的にUFBエージング(水素ポンプ)において、エージング装置50の制御部54は、第1流通部60、第2流通部70及び電圧印加部80の動作を制御することで、図9A及び図9Bに示すように、2つのパターンを実施する。
 図9Aに示す第1パターンは、アノード電極24に、HUFB水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加する一方で、カソード電極26に、NUFB水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加する供給印加パターンである。図9Bに示す第2パターンは、アノード電極24に、NUFB水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加する一方で、カソード電極26に、HUFB水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加する逆供給印加パターンである。なお、この水素ポンプの原理でも、制御部54は、第1パターン又は第2パターンを単独で実施することが可能であり、或いは第1パターンと第2パターンを所定期間毎に交互に実施することができる。
 なお、水素ポンプを利用したエージング方法でも、エージング装置50は、電圧印加部80の代わりに図示しない電子負荷部を使用して、アノード又はカソード側のどちらか片側に(又は交互に)電流を印加することにより、電圧印加部80と同様の電位差をかけることも可能である。
 第1パターンにおいて、エージング装置50は、図10に示すように、第1流通部60によりアノード流路30及びアノード電極24にHUFB水を供給し、第2流通部70によりカソード流路32及びカソード電極26にNUFB水を供給する。HUFBは、アノード電極24においてHUFB水の水圧(水流)によって、ガス拡散層24c及び緻密カーボン層24bを介して触媒層24aに移動し、触媒層24aにおいて破裂することでH分子となる。特に、制御部54は、アノード電極24側の圧力をカソード電極26側の圧力よりも高くする制御を行うことで、HUFBが触媒層24aに向かって移動し易くなる。そして、H分子は、白金触媒と反応し、プロトン(H)と電子(e)に電離する。
 さらに、電圧印加部80は、アノード電極24にプラス電位、カソード電極26に、他極と比べてマイナス電位をそれぞれ印加する。これにより、電離した電子は、アノード電極24の第1セパレータ20aに移動して、ハーネス56及び電圧印加部80を介してカソード電極26の第2セパレータ20bに移動する。つまり、カソード電極26は、多くの電子が移動してくることで、プロトンを引き寄せるようになる。従って、アノード電極24の触媒層24aのプロトンは、電気浸透水を伴ってMEA18内を移動する。カソード電極26の触媒層26aに移動したプロトンと電子は、白金触媒と反応することで、H分子となり、このH分子は、NUFB水と共に燃料電池10から排出される。
 図9Bに戻り、エージング装置50は、第2パターンにおいて、UFB水(HUFB水、NUFB水)の供給対象電極を第1パターンと逆にすると共に、電圧の印加対象電極も第1パターンと逆にする。これにより、燃料電池10は、上記と逆に、電解質膜22を介してカソード電極26からアノード電極24に向かってプロトンを移動させ、電気浸透水による加湿をカソード電極26側から行うことができる(具体的な、燃料電池10の作用については説明を省略する)。
 以上のように、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、水素ポンプの原理を用いたUFBエージングでも第1実施形態と同様の効果を得ることができる。すなわち、このエージング方法は、MEA18におけるプロトンの拡散係数が上昇し、プロトン移動に伴う電気浸透水量も上昇することで、MEA18(電解質膜22)の含水量を効率的に増大させることができる。特に、水素ポンプの原理を用いたUFBエージングは、直流電圧の印加によって電子を移動させることで、プロトンの移動効率をより高めることが可能となる。
〔第3実施形態〕
 第3実施形態に係る燃料電池10のエージング方法は、図11に示すように、UFBエージングの実施時に、CVエージングを同時に行う構成としている点で、第1及び第2実施形態に係る燃料電池10のエージング方法と異なる。なお、UFBエージングを実施するエージング装置50は、第1及び第2実施形態と同様のエージング装置50を適用することができる。
 具体的には、エージング方法では、UFB+CVエージング(ステップS11)、Nパージ(ステップS12)、CVエージング(ステップS13)、性能評価(ステップS14)を順に実施する。UFB+CVエージングでは、制御部54は、濃淡電池又は水素ポンプの原理を用いたUFBエージングを実施しつつ、電圧印加部80によりアノード電極24及びカソード電極26に印加する電圧を変動させる。これにより、UFB+CVエージングを実施した燃料電池10は、電解質膜22の含水量が増大し、しかも触媒有効面積が向上する。
 従って、エージング方法は、Nパージ(ステップS12)後のCVエージング(ステップS13)における実施時間を一層短縮化することができる。そして、このようにUFB+CVエージングを実施し、CVエージングを短縮化しても、燃料電池スタック12の発電性能を大幅に向上させることができる。なお、第3実施形態に係る燃料電池10のエージング方法でも、UFB+CVエージングの実施によって燃料電池10の発電性能が充分に高められた場合には、CVエージングを省略してもよいことは勿論である。
 上記の実施形態から把握し得る技術的思想及び効果について以下に記載する。
 本発明の一態様は、電解質膜22と、電解質膜22の両面に設けられた一対の電極(アノード電極24、カソード電極26)と、を有する燃料電池10のエージング方法であって、プロトンに分離可能な水素をウルトラファインバブル(UFB)として有する水素ウルトラファインバブル水(HUFB水)を、燃料電池10の一方の電極に供給し、一方の電極から電解質膜22を通して他方の電極にプロトンを移動させるウルトラファインバブルエージングを行う。
 上記によれば、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、燃料電池10に供給したHUFB水を、一方の電極の触媒層24a(又は触媒層26a)に良好に移動させることができる。これにより、触媒層24a(又は触媒層26a)において水素から電離したプロトンは、電気浸透水を伴って電解質膜22を移動することで、電解質膜22の加湿を一層促進することが可能となる。すなわち、HUFB水を利用したウルトラファインバブルエージングは、燃料電池10のエージングの効率化を図ることができる。
 また、ウルトラファインバブルエージングの実施後に、一対の電極(アノード電極24、カソード電極26)に、所定の電圧幅で変動する電圧を印加する電圧変動エージング(CVエージング)を行う。これにより、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、電解質膜22の加湿によりガス拡散性が高まった燃料電池10に対してCVエージングを行うことができ、このCVエージングにより触媒有効面積を短時間に確保することが可能となる。
 また、ウルトラファインバブルエージングでは、一対の電極であるアノード電極24に、水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加する一方で、一対の電極であるカソード電極26に、窒素をウルトラファインバブルとして有する窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加する供給印加パターンを行う。これにより、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、濃淡電池の原理を利用してプロトンを極間移動させることが可能となり、UFBエージングを良好に行うことができる。
 また、ウルトラファインバブルエージングでは、供給印加パターンと、アノード電極24に、窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加する一方で、カソード電極26に、水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加する逆供給印加パターンと、を交互に行う。これにより、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、アノード電極24とカソード電極26の両方から電解質膜22の加湿を行うことができ、UFBエージングの効率化等が一層図られる。
 また、一対の電極であるアノード電極24に、水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給し、一対の電極であるカソード電極26に、酸素をウルトラファインバブルとして有する酸素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給することで発電を行う。この水素ウルトラファインバブル水及び酸素ウルトラファインバブル水の供給により、燃料電池10は、触媒層24a、26aに水素及び酸素を効率的に供給することが可能となり、発電を良好に行うことができる。
 また、一対の電極であるアノード電極24に、水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加し、一対の電極であるカソード電極26に、窒素をウルトラファインバブルとして有する窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加する供給印加パターンを行う。この場合でも、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、水素ポンプの原理を利用してプロトンを極間移動させることが可能となり、UFBエージングを良好に行うことができる。
 また、ウルトラファインバブルエージングでは、供給印加パターンと、アノード電極24に、窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加し、カソード電極26に、水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加する逆供給印加パターンと、を交互に行う。このように水素ポンプの原理を利用した場合でも、アノード電極24とカソード電極26の両方から電解質膜22の加湿を行うことができ、UFBエージングの効率化等が一層図られる。
 また、水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給する側の圧力を、窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給する側の圧力よりも高くする。これにより、UFBエージングは、電極内での触媒層24a、26aへのHUFBの移動をより効率化することができる。
 また、供給印加パターン又は逆供給印加パターンの終了時に、水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給する側の圧力を下げることで、窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給する側の圧力との差圧を低下させる。これにより、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、供給印加パターン又は逆供給印加パターンの終了時に、急に圧力が変わることによる電解質膜22への過負荷等を抑制することができる。
 また、供給印加パターン又は逆供給印加パターンの終了時に、水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給する側の電極に窒素を供給して残存する水素を排出する。これにより、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、電極に残存する水素を簡単に排出することが可能となる。
 また、ウルトラファインバブルエージングの実施時に、印加する電圧を所定の電圧幅で変動させる。これにより、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、UFBエージングでもCVエージングを合わせて行うことができ、エージング時間の短縮化を一層促すことができる。
 また、一方の電極に対して水素ウルトラファインバブル水を所定の供給期間循環させた後、水素ウルトラファインバブル水を排水する。これにより、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、水素ウルトラファインバブルを充分に使い切ることが可能となり、水素の消費を抑制できる。
 また、一方の電極に対して水素ウルトラファインバブル水を所定量供給した後、水素ウルトラファインバブル水の供給を停止する。これにより、燃料電池10のエージング方法は、Hの消費を抑制することができる。
 また、燃料電池10は、一対の電極の電極面の各々に設置された一対のセパレータ(第1セパレータ20a、第2セパレータ20b)を有し、ウルトラファインバブルエージングの処理前又は処理中に、セパレータをウルトラファインバブル水で洗浄する。これにより、セパレータの表面の親水性を高めることができ、このセパレータにより燃料電池10を構成することで、燃料電池10のエージング時間の短縮、又はセル電圧のばらつきの改善を期待することができる。

Claims (14)

  1.  電解質膜(22)と、前記電解質膜の両面に設けられた一対の電極(24、26)と、を有する燃料電池(10)のエージング方法であって、
     プロトンに分離可能な水素をウルトラファインバブルとして有する水素ウルトラファインバブル水を、前記燃料電池の一方の電極に供給し、
     前記一方の電極から前記電解質膜を通して他方の電極に前記プロトンを移動させるウルトラファインバブルエージングを行う
     燃料電池のエージング方法。
  2.  請求項1記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記ウルトラファインバブルエージングの実施後に、
     前記一対の電極に、所定の電圧幅で変動する電圧を印加する電圧変動エージングを行う
     燃料電池のエージング方法。
  3.  請求項1又は2記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記ウルトラファインバブルエージングでは、
     前記一対の電極であるアノード電極(24)に、前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加する一方で、
     前記一対の電極であるカソード電極(26)に、窒素をウルトラファインバブルとして有する窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加する供給印加パターンを行う
     燃料電池のエージング方法。
  4.  請求項3記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記ウルトラファインバブルエージングでは、前記供給印加パターンと、
     前記アノード電極に、前記窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加する一方で、
     前記カソード電極に、前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加する逆供給印加パターンと、を交互に行う
     燃料電池のエージング方法。
  5.  請求項1又は2記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記一対の電極であるアノード電極に、前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給し、
     前記一対の電極であるカソード電極に、酸素をウルトラファインバブルとして有する酸素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給することで発電を行う
     燃料電池のエージング方法。
  6.  請求項1又は2記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記一対の電極であるアノード電極に、前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加し、
     前記一対の電極であるカソード電極に、窒素をウルトラファインバブルとして有する窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加する供給印加パターンを行う
     燃料電池のエージング方法。
  7.  請求項6記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記ウルトラファインバブルエージングでは、前記供給印加パターンと、
     前記アノード電極に、前記窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、他極と比べてマイナス電位を印加し、
     前記カソード電極に、前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給すると共に、プラス電位を印加する逆供給印加パターンと、を交互に行う
     燃料電池のエージング方法。
  8.  請求項4又は7記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給する側の圧力を、前記窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給する側の圧力よりも高くする
     燃料電池のエージング方法。
  9.  請求項8記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記供給印加パターン又は前記逆供給印加パターンの終了時に、前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給する側の圧力を下げることで、前記窒素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給する側の圧力との差圧を低下させる
     燃料電池のエージング方法。
  10.  請求項4、7~9のいずれか1項に記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記供給印加パターン又は前記逆供給印加パターンの終了時に、前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水を供給する側の電極に窒素を供給して残存する水素を排出する

  11.  請求項1~10のいずれか1項に記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記ウルトラファインバブルエージングの実施時に、印加する電圧を所定の電圧幅で変動させる

  12.  請求項1~11のいずれか1項に記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記一方の電極に対して前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水を所定の供給期間循環させた後、前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水を排水する

  13.  請求項1~12のいずれか1項に記載の燃料電池のエージング方法において、
     前記一方の電極に対して前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水を所定量供給した後、前記水素ウルトラファインバブル水の供給を停止する
