Therefore, the midsole 6 obtains, when compared to the midsoles used in state-of- the-art soles, less weight and volume and, consequently, a greater overall lightness.
  • the midsole 2 also comprises a perimeter edge, which is preferably annular 8, that extends, in use, upwards from the perimeter of the main or substantially flat portion 6 and defining with the latter or better with the internal surface 6a thereof an upper housing 10.
  • the substantially flat portion 6 and the perimeter edge 8 are conveniently made in a single piece, but could also be made in separate parts and then fixed to each other with methods known in the field.
  • the sole 1 then comprises a stabilizing and shock-absorbing insert 14, facing, in use, towards the sole of the foot and elastically yielding and compressible under the weight of the user.
  • the insert 14 provides a rear portion with a shape substantially similar to that of the puncture resistant sheet 4 and of the footbed 24 (which will be discussed later), whereas the insert, for example, at a length corresponding to approximately 3/4 of the total extension of the sole 1 has a tip with a sectioned shape, so that between no tip of the insert 14 is interposed between the tip of the puncture resistant sheet 4 and the tip of the footbed 24.
  • a puncture resistant sheet 4 is then provided in the sole 1, which is inserted in the housing 10 above the insert 14.
  • the puncture resistant sheet 4 actually interposed between the insert 14 and the midsole 2, is arranged so as not to be directly in contact with the foot, thereby not affecting the comfort of the sole 1.
  • the puncture resistant sheet 4 is made, for example, of composite material. If desired, it has a substantially constant thickness, for example between 3 and 6 mm.
  • the housing 10 comprises a main zone 10b and a groove 10a recessed with respect to the main zone 10b, which groove 10a is provided at the base or on the bottom of the housing 10.

  • the shock-absorbing and/or stabilizing insert 14 has a thickness which substantially corresponds to the height of the perimeter edge 8 of the midsole 2 added to the thickness of the puncture resistant sheet 4, so that once the sheet 4 and insert 14 have been inserted, the upper, in use, surface 14a of the insert 14 constitutes a substantially regular surface on which the sole of the foot can rest, if desired flush with the upper end of the perimeter edge 8.
  • the shock-absorbing and/or stabilizing insert 14 is made of light and yielding material, particularly suited to dampen the impact of the foot on the ground.
  • the shock-absorbing and/or stabilizing insert 14 is made, for example, of material such as polyurethane foam or ethyl vinyl acetate, or other lightweight material with equivalent mechanical characteristics.
  • the sole 1 according to the invention can further comprise an inner insole 20, if desired equipped with shock-absorbing cushion elements 22.
  • the inner insole 20, of the type per se known in the field, is made, for example, of highly hydrophilic polyester material, or in another suitable material that absorbs moisture and keeps the foot dry.
  • the shock-absorbing cushion elements 22 are arranged or fitted in the main body of the inner insole 20, if desired, they are overmoulded by means of the material of obtainment of this main body.
  • the shock-absorbing cushion elements 22 are preferably provided in the midfoot region and/or in the rearfoot region.
  • a shock-absorbing cushion element 22 can be provided one in the midfoot region and one in the rearfoot region.
  • These elements 22 can be made of softer material which acts as a shock absorber, while the main body of the insole 20 is made of a more rigid material for ensuring it to be thermoformed.

  • the shock-absorbing and/or stabilizing insert 14 exerts an action to dampen the impact of the foot on the ground, in this way the sole 1 according to the invention is able to provide an optimal and comfortable dynamic response to the impact of the foot F on the ground while walking.

  • Another interesting and advantageous effect obtainable owing to the sole 1 according to the present invention is a ventilation action inside the shoe S.
  • the cyclic compression and release action of the element 14 during walking determines a sort of pumping effect inside the shoe S, which, in turn, determines a given circulation of air, which thus does not stagnate and promotes foot perspiration.
  • the air is free to move also thanks to the highly hydrophilic component and the ventilation holes 26a, 26b of the insole 20 and of the footbed 24, respectively, which holes define passageways.
  • the sole according to the invention makes it possible to increase the sensation of comfort felt by the user during walking with respect to known soles, since it provides an elastic support for the load of the foot owing to the widespread damping action of the shock-absorbing insert and/or stabilizer 14.
