  • the gripping pad 130 opposes slippage of a garment or another gripping pad in contact with the gripping pad, providing stable support for a limb guard worn over a support sleeve.
  • the gripping pads may be made from a gripping material with a rough surface such the hook portion of thistle cloth, emery cloth, perforated metal having small protrusions extending from the surface, a substrate material with many short wires or bristles extending out from a surface of the material, the loop portion of thistle cloth, materials with magnetic properties or materials incorporating magnets, and so on.
  • the gripping material preferably opposes slipping when pressed against another piece of the gripping material or fabric.
  • Gripping material preferably has a high coefficient of friction compared to coefficients of friction for natural and synthetic materials commonly used for clothing.
  • a gripping material examples include, but are not limited to, synthetic rubber, natural rubber, polyurethane, leather, felt made from natural and/or synthetic fibers, a polymer material cast into the preferred pad shape, a polymer material adhered to or fused to a fabric, silicone rubber, polysiloxane, emery cloth, sticky anti-slip gel, and so on.
  • the friction pad 116 extends from the proximal transverse edge 111 to the distal transverse edge 112, as suggested in the example of Fig. 4 and Fig. 24.
  • a friction pad may optionally be made from the same material as other parts of the support sleeve 102.
  • one or more low-stretch collars 120 may optionally be attached to, or alternatively formed as an integral part of, the support sleeve 102.
  • a first collar 120 may be positioned on the front surface 109 of the support sleeve along the proximal transverse edge 111.

  • An optional gripping pad 164 may be positioned on the back surface 184 of the limb guard 150, for example on a strap 154, to stabilize the limb guard 150 against a limb and sleeve 102.
  • the cap 152 may optionally be detachable from other parts of the limb guard 150.
  • a strap connector 162 is provided for connecting the two straps 154 to one another.
  • the gripping pads (164,165) may function as a connector for attaching the limb guard to the sleeve or to another limb guard.

  • Fig. 20 further shows an example of a limb guard 150 with a knee guard and a shin guard formed as a single integrated unit 180.
  • the support sleeve may be worn under a garment and the limb guard may be worn over the garment.
  • Fig. 21 shows an example of a limb guard having more than one gripping pad 164 positioned for stabilizing the limb guard against a limb.
  • a gripping pad 164 may optionally be positioned to contact a corresponding gripping pad 114 on a support sleeve.
  • any of the gripping pads (e.g. 164, 165), cap connector (e.g., 114), and/or friction pads (e.g., 116, 118) disclosed herein may be made from a gripping material, or alternatively more than one of the gripping materials.
  • a gripping pad and a friction pad may be made from a same material. All gripping pads in an embodiment of a support sleeve and/or limb guard may not be made from a same gripping material.
  • a gripping pad and a friction pad may be made from different materials. Gripping pads positioned on different parts of an embodiment of a support sleeve and/or a limb protector may optionally be made from different materials.
  • another optional strap may extend from a limb guard or a joint guard worn over the support sleeve.
  • the optional strap may wrap around the limb on a side of the joint opposite the side with the support sleeve to prevent the limb guard from falling away from the joint when the person moves about.
  • the optional strap if present, is not required to prevent the support sleeve or joint guard from slipping along the limb or rotating about the limb.
  • An embodiment of a limb guard may optionally be provided separately from an embodiment of a support sleeve.
  • the limb guard preferably includes at least two straps attached to the limb guard, the straps positioned to connect to one another and to wrap around a support sleeve.
  • the limb guard may further include a gripping pad attached to a back side of the limb guard; the gripping pad positioned to contact a gripping pad on the support sleeve.
  • a support sleeve 102 may reposition or delete optional structural elements from previously described support sleeve examples.
  • Figures 22, 23, and 24 clarify alternative arrangements of previously described structural parts of the example support sleeve embodiments. Such alternatives are considered to be within the scope of the written description and figures of parent application serial number 15/938,989.

  • the first connector is attached to the back side of the support sleeve, as suggested by the dashed outline 196, and the second connector 194 is attached to the front side of the support sleeve.
  • the second connector 194 may optionally cover the entire front or back side of the support sleeve.
  • the first connector may be attached to the front side and the second connector may be attached to the back side of the support sleeve.
  • the first and second connectors are positioned to engage with one another, forming the support sleeve into an elastic tube around a limb as suggested in the examples of Figs. 1-2.
  • the first connector 196 may optionally correspond to the strap connector 106 of earlier examples.
  • FIGs. 3-8 show examples of a support sleeve with four elastic straps 104.
  • a support sleeve 102 may optionally have fewer than four straps.

  • a collar may be integrally formed with the support sleeve 102, for example by weaving the collar into the fabric of the sleeve or by rolling or folding a transverse edge (111, 112) into a tight hem of several layers with the hem thicker than other parts of the support sleeve, and stitching through the multiple layers. Each additional layer of material in the rolled or folded hem reduces the stretch of the collar compared to other parts of the support sleeve 102.
  • a collar 120 may alternatively be formed integrally with the stiffener 122 and/or the friction pad 116.
  • a support sleeve 102 may optionally include a stiffener 122 on a back side 110 of the sleeve.
  • the stiffener may alternatively be attached to the front side as in the example of Fig. 9 or embedded within the support sleeve 102 as in the example of Fig. 10.
  • the stiffener 122 may be integrally formed with the friction pad 116.
  • Some embodiments of a support sleeve may include a stiffener 122 and omit the friction pad 116.

  • a limb guard 150 may optionally have at least one additional strap positioned to be worn on a side of a limb joint opposite the side on which the support sleeve is worn.
  • the support sleeve 102 and limb guard 150 have straps positioned to be worn on the distal side 208 of a limb joint 212.
  • the limb guard 150 may include one or more additional straps configured to wrap around the proximal side 214 of the limb joint, opposite the distal side 208 where the support sleeve 102 is worn.
  • the optional additional straps may help stabilize the limb guard's position for protecting the limb joint.
  • the support sleeve 102 in the examples of Figs. 3, 4, 6-14, and 22-24 includes at least two opposing connectors (194, 196) positioned to engage with one another. When engaged, the connectors draw the first 190 and second 192 longitudinal edges toward one another, forming the support sleeve into a hollow tube configured to be worn around a limb. Disengaging the connectors (194, 196) from one another allows the hollow tube to be opened for easy removal of the support sleeve from a limb.
  • the support sleeve 102 may be shaped as an integrally-formed hollow elastic tube configured to be worn around a limb, as suggested in the example of Fig. 25.
  • the support sleeve example in Fig. 25 is an integrally-formed tube, without the support sleeve 102 having longitudinal edges along which the tube could be opened and laid flat.
  • a support sleeve 102 as in the example of Fig. 25 may optionally have one or more straps 104 attached to the support sleeve to hold the sleeve in position on a limb.
  • the straps 104 may be long enough to wrap all the way around the support sleeve and limb.
  • the straps may include first 194 and second 196 sleeve connectors positioned to connect to one another or alternatively to the front surface 109 of the support sleeve.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne un dispositif pour coupler un protège-membre à un membre humain comprenant un manchon de support conçu pour s'enrouler autour du membre. Le manchon de support comprend un patin de frottement conçu pour amortir le membre et s'opposer au déplacement en translation et en rotation du dispositif par rapport au membre. Le manchon de support fournit une surface de fixation stable pour une protection d'articulation et/ou un protège-membre et peut être porté sans inconfort pendant des périodes prolongées, en restant fixe par rapport au membre lorsqu'une personne portant le dispositif se déplace.
