Definitions
- the present invention relates to a new type of can for liquids and to the related opening method, in particular a can for alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages.
- A can generally consists of a cylindrical body, closed by a bottom, to which a lid is connected, e.g., by seaming.
- the lid is usually provided with an opening device comprising a tab which can be grasped by a user, connected to the lid by means of e.g. a rivet, and an opening portion formed on the lid.
- the lid has one or more weakening grooves around the opening portion to allow the latter to be easily opened manually to access the contents introduced in the can.
- the opening of a can is made by lifting the tab so that the part closest to the opening portion operates against the latter to apply such pressure so as to force the breaking of the grooves and bending the opening portion inwards.
- the main object of the present invention is to devise a new type of opening device that is more hygienic than known techniques.
- the aforementioned object is achieved by means of an opening device that is able to prevent the opening portion and the tab, following the opening of the can, from coming into contact with the beverage and therefore the user can drink its contents without the beverage coming into contact with the opening device.
- the present invention therefore relates, in a first aspect, to a can for beverages according to claim 1 having structural and functional characteristics such as to meet the aforementioned requirements and at the same time to overcome the drawbacks referred to with reference to the prior art.
- the present invention relates to an opening method of a can according to claim 10.
- FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of a can according to the present invention
- FIG. 1 - Figure 2 and 3 show upper views of the can in Figure 1 in a closing and opening configuration, respectively.
- reference letter L globally indicates a can containing liquids according to the present invention.
- the can L as shown in Figure 1, comprises a hollow main body LI extending along the longitudinal direction Z-Z between a bottom L2 and a closing lid C placed at the upper portion of the lid C itself.
- the lid C is an element which is separate from the main body which is constrained to the body LI itself, e.g., by seaming.
- the main body LI and the bottom L2 are made of a single body piece, e.g., by drawing.
- the can L comprises an opening device 1 associated with the surface Cl of the lid C.
- the opening device 1 preferably has two elements, i.e. an opening portion 10 and a tab 11.
- the lid C has a circular shape and consists of a disc of preferably metallic material where, by means of known processes (such as e.g. laser engraving, mechanical cutting, etc.), one or more grooves are made defining the opening portion 10 of the device 1.
- connection means 12 e.g. by means of a rivet.
- the groove made on the surface of the lid defines a circular segment as a whole with a substantially lenticular shape, transverse to the longitudinal direction Z-Z, which identifies the opening portion 10.
- the circular segment 10 has a convex-concave shape and is delimited by four sections, two of which are particularly defined by two arches 10a, 10b of substantially similar length wherein the lower arch 10a (with reference to the point of view of an observer positioned above the can oriented as in the Figures 2 and 3) is preferably parallel to the circumference of the lid C and in a distal position with respect to the centre of the latter, while the upper arch 10b is in a proximal position with respect to the centre of the lid C itself.
- the upper arch 10b rotates around its own greater radius with respect to the rotation radius of the lower arch 10a.
- the opening portion 10 is preferably arranged between the second quadrant Q2 and the third quadrant Q3, close to the edge of the lid C.
- the two arches 10a, 10b of the portion 10 preferably extend by a predefined length from the second quadrant Q2 to the third quadrant Q3.
- the two arches 10a, 10b are connected to each other by two sections 10c and lOd.
- the connection section 10c positioned at the second quadrant Q2 is preferably curvilinear while the connection section lOd positioned at the third quadrant Q3 is preferably straight.
- the connection section lOd extends along a radial direction W-W, with respect to a plane substantially parallel to the plane of extension of the lid C, with an angle a of rotation between 180° and 270°, preferably 225°.
- the groove intended to make the opening portion 10 may have a variable thickness.
- the connection section lOd features a greater thickness than the other sections 10a, 10b, 10c so that the connection of the portion 10 to the lid C is more strengthened in this position. This way, it is possible to avoid that the device 1, even after opening, does not detach completely from the lid C.
- the opening of the device 1 is such that the latter is movable between:
- a user grasps the tab 11 to lift it in order to exert a force that allows the tab 11 itself to operate on the portion 10 to break the grooves at the section 10c.
- the sections 10a, 10b thus operate as a guide for opening the portion 10 from the quadrant Q2 to Q3. This way, the portion 10 may be lifted and rotated around the section lOd.
- the tab 11 is preferably in the shape of a bean, the outline 11a of which, arranged more externally than the centre of the lid C, preferably follows the curvilinear pattern of the circumference of the lid C.
- the tab 11 also comprises a hole to receive the rivet 12 connecting to the portion 10.
- the portion l ib opposite the hole has a relief l ie positioned on the surface facing the lid C when the tab is in the closing configuration, the technical features of which will be described later.
- the entire device 1 in the closing configuration, is located as a whole between the first quadrant Q1 and the third quadrant Q3.
- the tab 11 is positioned between the first quadrant Q1 and the second quadrant Q2 while the portion 10 is positioned between the second quadrant Q2 and the third quadrant Q3.
- the device 1 in the opening configuration, is located as a whole between the third quadrant Q3 and the first quadrant Ql.
- the tab 11 is positioned between the third quadrant Q3 and the fourth quadrant Q4 while the portion 10 is positioned between the fourth quadrant Q4 and the first quadrant Ql.
- the tab 11 is preferably positioned parallel to the surface Cl of the lid C.
- the surface Cl of the lid C comprises a recess C2, which is formed at the first quadrant Ql of the lid C.
- the recess C2 is designed to partly accommodate the relief l ie of the tab 11 to facilitate the grip thereof by the user.
- the transit of the device 1 from the closing position to the opening position takes place by means of a counterclockwise rotation of the device 1 around the direction W-W and then around the section lOd of the opening portion 10.
- the diagonal rotation of the opening device 1 around the section lOd allows the tab 11 to always remain parallel to the surface Cl of the lid C both in closing and opening configuration.
- the rotation along the axis W-W of the portion 10 allows the latter to be arranged from a substantially horizontal configuration (between the quadrant Q2 and Q3, along the horizontal direction X-X) to a vertical configuration (between the quadrants Q3 and Q4, along the vertical direction Y-Y) so as not to bother the user’s mouth during drinking.
- the tab 11 is upside down and is positioned between the fourth quadrant Q4 and the first quadrant Ql and the opening portion 10 extends between the third quadrant Q3 and the fourth quadrant Q4.
- the surface Cl of the lid C may have one or more decorations made by engraving or printing. These decorations allow the creation of shapes as desired such as drawings, writing, emoticons, etc..
- the lid has a stylized decoration in the shape of a smiling face.
- the decoration comprises a mouth 20, two tears 21,22 and two eyes 23, where the mouth 20 is made by the portion 10 in the closing configuration and then by the cavity 20 in the opening configuration.
- one of the two tears 21,22 e.g. the one placed in the first quadrant Ql, is preferably made by the surface portion adapted to house the recess C2, while the second tear 22, placed in the third quadrant Q3, has a purely graphic purpose.
- the surface Cl may also comprise two stylized eyes 23 each positioned in the first quadrant Ql and in the fourth quadrant Q4, respectively, also made by engraving on the surface Cl of the lid C, e.g. for graphic purposes only.
- the described invention achieves the intended objects and in particular the fact is underlined that, through the particular configuration of the device, the opening portion can be lifted upwards thus avoiding contact with the beverage.
- the elements making up the lid and the opening device are positioned and sized in such a way as to be able to create different decorations while maintaining effective technical functions.
