Description

船外機
 本発明は、船外機に関する。
 船外機には、エンジンに連結されてエンジンからの排気ガスを集合させる排気マニホールドと、排気マニホールドから延びる排気管とを備えた構成が知られている。この種の排気管には、排気マニホールドに沿って上向きに延びる第2通路と、第2通路の上端部に接続されて排気マニホールドの上方を通る第3通路と、第3通路に接続されて下向きに反転して排気マニホールドに沿って下向きに延びる第4通路とを有し、第2通路の中間部に、複数の排気浄化用の触媒を配置した構造が提案されている(例えば特許文献1)。

 しかし、特許文献1の構成は、排気マニホールドに沿って上向きに延びる第2通路内に複数の触媒を一列に配置するので、第2通路を、複数の触媒を配置可能な内径及び長さにするか、触媒そのものを、第2通路に収まって十分な性能を有する仕様にしたりする等の制約がある。
 一方、触媒の一部を第2通路以外の排気管に配置すれば、触媒の配置自由度が向上するものの、下流側の排気管ほど被水するおそれが高くなる。また下流側ほど排気ガスの温度が低下するため、触媒の早期活性化に不利となる。
 そこで、本発明は、触媒の配置に関する制約を低減すると共に、触媒の早期活性化と長期性能維持とを両立可能にすることを目的とする。
 この明細書には、2019年2月13日に出願された日本国特許出願・特願2019-023657号の全ての内容が含まれる。
 上記目的を達成するために、水面よりも高い位置にエンジンを備え、前記エンジンに設けられ、前記エンジンからの排気ガスを集合させる排気マニホールドと、前記排気マニホールドから延びる排気管とを有する船外機において、前記排気管は、前記排気マニホールドの側方を上方に延びる第1排気管と、前記第1排気管から延びて下方に屈曲する屈曲管と、前記屈曲管から下方に延びると共に前記第1排気管に隣接する第2排気管とを有し、前記第1排気管内に、排気浄化用の第1触媒が設けられると共に、前記第2排気管内に、排気浄化用の第2触媒が設けられ、前記第2触媒は、前記第1排気管の上下中央位置よりも高所寄りにオフセットした位置に配置されていることを特徴とする。
 上記構成において、前記第1及び第2触媒は、前記第1排気管の上下中央位置よりも高所寄りにオフセットした位置であり、かつ、両触媒の少なくとも一部が水平方向に重なる高さに配置されていることを特徴とする。
 また、上記構成において、前記第1触媒の下端は、前記第2触媒よりも低い位置に設けられていることを特徴とする。また、上記構成において、前記第1及び第2触媒は、両触媒の少なくとも一部が水平方向に重なる高さに位置することを特徴とする。
 また、上記構成において、前記第1排気管は、前記排気マニホールドに隣接すると共に、前記排気マニホールドに沿って上方に延びることを特徴とする。また、上記構成において、前記第2排気管は、前記第1排気管に隣接されていることを特徴とする。また、前記第2排気管は、前記第1排気管を挟んで前記排気マニホールドの反対側に設けられるようにしてもよい。
 また、上記構成において、前記第1排気管と前記第1触媒との間、及び、前記第2排気管と前記第2触媒との間の少なくともいずれかに、排気ガスが通過可能な隙間が設けられていることを特徴とする。また、上記構成において、前記排気管のうち、少なくとも前記屈曲管にウォータージャケットが設けられていることを特徴とする。
 また、上記構成において、前記第2触媒は、前記第1触媒に対し、触媒材料、及び、前記触媒材料を担持する担体の少なくともいずれかが異なる簡易型であることを特徴とする。また、上記構成において、前記第1触媒は三元触媒であり、前記第2触媒は窒素酸化物だけを除去する触媒であることを特徴とする。
 また、上記構成において、前記第2触媒は、窒素酸化物を吸着する吸着型であり、前記エンジンに供給する混合気の空燃比を制御可能な制御部と、前記第2触媒の吸着量が飽和状態に近い状態か否かを特定可能な情報を検出するセンサとを備え、前記制御部は、前記空燃比を理論空燃比よりもリーン側に制御している場合に、前記センサによって検出される情報に基づいて、前記第2触媒の吸着量が飽和状態に近い状態と判定すると、前記空燃比を理論空燃比よりもリッチ側に制御して、前記第2触媒に吸着された窒素酸化物の還元反応を促すことを特徴とする。
 本発明は、触媒の配置に関する制約を低減すると共に、触媒の早期活性化と長期性能維持とを両立可能にすることができる。

 以下、図面を参照して本発明の実施形態について説明する。
(第1実施形態)
 図1は第1実施形態に係る船外機を右側方から見た部分断面図である。
 この船外機10は、船外機本体12と、船舶14に取り付けられる取付部16とを備えている。船舶14は、例えば総トン数20トン未満の小型船舶である。本説明中の各方向は、船外機10を基準にした方向である。図1及び後述する各図において、符号FRは船外機10の前方向を示し、符号URは船外機10の上方向を示し、符号LHは船外機10の左方向を示している。
 取付部16は、上下方向に延びる鉛直軸に形成されたスイベル軸17と、左右方向に延びるチルト軸18とを備え、船舶14の船尾15に取り付けられる。
 船外機本体12は、取付部16に設けられたマウントケース21を備え、マウントケース21に対し、スイベル軸17を基準にして左右方向(水平方向)に揺動すると共に、チルト軸18を基準にして上下に揺動する。これにより、船外機本体12は、船舶14に対し、左右方向及び上下方向に揺動自在に取り付けられている。
 マウントケース21の上にはエンジン23が支持される。エンジン23は、船外機10の上側外装カバーを構成するエンジンカバー24で覆われている。エンジンカバー24内には、エンジン23に加えて、エンジン23の吸気系部品41、排気系部品51、補器類61、及び、船外機10の各部を制御する制御部71(後述する図3)等の電子部品が配置されている。エンジン23及びエンジンカバー24は水面よりも高い位置にあり、エンジンカバー24内の各部品は被水し難い位置にある。
 マウントケース21の下には、エンジン23の駆動力をプロペラ25に伝達する動力伝達機構26が設けられる。この動力伝達機構26は、エクステンションカバー27で覆われる。
 動力伝達機構26は、スイベル軸17の後方にてスイベル軸17と平行に下方に延びる駆動軸28と、駆動軸28の下部にシフト機構29を介して連結され、シフト機構29から後方に延びるプロペラ軸30とを備えている。駆動軸28は、エンジン23によって回転駆動され、この駆動軸28の回転が、シフト機構29を介してプロペラ軸30に伝達される。シフト機構29は、制御部71の制御の下、シフトポジションをフォワード、リバース及びニュートラルのいずれかに切り替える。
 プロペラ軸30の後端にはプロペラ25が取り付けられる。船舶14を前進又は後進させる状態では、プロペラ25は水中に位置し、プロペラ軸30の軸線は船舶14の進行方向に対して略平行に設定される。このプロペラ25が回転駆動されることによって船舶14を前進又は後進させる推進力が発生する。なお、動力伝達機構26の構成は、公知の構成を広く適用可能である。
 図2はエンジン23を周辺構成と共に上方から模式的に示した図である。なお、説明の便宜上、図2ではエンジンカバー24を二点鎖線で示し、エンジンカバー24内の構造を実線で示している。
 エンジン23は、内燃機関であり、本実施形態では多気筒のガソリンエンジンである。図1及び図2に示すように、エンジン23は、クランク軸31を収容するクランクケース32と、クランクケース32の後部にクランクケース32と一体又は別体に設けられたシリンダブロック33と、シリンダブロック33に後方から連結されるシリンダヘッド34と、シリンダヘッド34に後方から連結されるヘッドカバー35とを備えている。
 クランクケース32は、クランク軸31を上下方向に指向させて回転自在に支持する。シリンダブロック33は、クランク軸31に設けられた複数のピストン31Pが摺動する複数のシリンダ31Cを上下に間隔を空けて備えている。シリンダヘッド34は、各シリンダ31Cに連通する吸気ポート34A及び排気ポート34Bを有している。ヘッドカバー35は、シリンダヘッド34との間に、各ポート34A、34Bを開閉する動弁機構を収容する空間を区画する。
 本実施形態では、シリンダヘッド34の左右一方の側面(左側面)に吸気ポート34Aが上下に間隔を空けて開口し、これら吸気ポート34Aに吸気系部品41が連結される。また、シリンダヘッド34の左右他方の面(右側面)に排気ポート34Bが上下に間隔を空けて開口し、これら排気ポート34Bに排気系部品51が連結される。
 吸気系部品41は、燃料と空気を混合させた混合気をエンジン23に供給する部品であり、制御部71の制御の下、混合気の供給量を調整するスロットル装置、及び、エンジン23への燃料噴射量を調整する燃料噴射装置等を備えている。この吸気系部品41の構成は公知の構成を広く適用可能である。
 図3は排気系部品51の構造を模式的に示した図である。
 図2及び図3に示すように、排気系部品51は、エンジン23に連結される排気マニホールド52と、排気マニホールド52から延びる排気管53とを備えている。排気マニホールド52は、シリンダヘッド34の排気ポート34B側の面(右側面)に設けられ、上下方向に延びる中空箱形状に形成されている。この排気マニホールド52は、各排気ポート34Bに連通する開口部52Kを上下に間隔を空けて備えており、各開口部52Kから流入する排気ガスを集合させる排気ガス集合部として機能する。また、排気マニホールド52の最下部の側方(船外機10の前方向きの面に相当)には、集合した排気ガスを排出する単一の排気出口52Hが設けられている。
 この排気マニホールド52は、シリンダヘッド34と一体に形成されている。但し、この構成に限定されず、排気マニホールド52をシリンダヘッド34と別体に形成してもよい。
 図3に示すように、排気管53は、排気マニホールド52から上方に向けて延びる第1排気管55と、第1排気管55から延びて下方屈曲する屈曲管56と、屈曲管56から延びて下方に延びる第2排気管57とを備えている。各排気管55、56、57は、アルミニウム合金又はステンレス等の金属管で形成され、各排気管55、56、57を通過する排気ガスの熱を外部に放出可能である。本実施形態では、各排気管55、56、57が円形断面であるが、円形断面に限定しなくてもよい。なお、これら排気管55、56、57をそれぞれ別部品で形成してもよいし、一体部品で形成してもよい。
 第1排気管55は、排気マニホールド52の排気出口52Hから排気マニホールド52の側方を上方に延びる筒形状に形成されている。この第1排気管55は、排気マニホールド52との間に所定の隙間S1を空けて隣接し、かつ、排気マニホールド52と平行に上方に延びる直管部分を有している。
 この第1排気管55の下端位置H1、及び上端位置H2(直管部分55Aの上端位置に相当)は、第1排気管55が配置される空きスペース、つまり、エンジン23とエンジンカバー24との間の空きスペース内に収まる高さに設定されている。より具体的には、下端位置H1は、排気マニホールド52の下端近傍の高さに設定され、上端位置H2は、排気マニホールド52の上端よりも低い高さに設定されている。図3中、符号HC1は、第1排気管55の上下中央位置を示している。
 第1排気管55の直管部分55Cには、排気ガスを浄化する第1触媒58が収容されている。
 第1触媒58は、排気ガス中の炭化水素(HC)、一酸化炭素(CO)及び酸化窒素(NOx)等の有害成分を酸化、還元反応によって除去する三元触媒であり、例えば、多孔質のハニカム構造体に、白金、パラジウム、ロジウム等の触媒成分をコーティングしたハニカム触媒構造を有している。なお、ハニカム触媒構造に限定されず、プレート材に触媒成分を担持させたプレート触媒構造等の簡易型にしてもよい。
 第1排気管55と排気マニホールド52との間の隙間S1は、第1排気管55が振動しても第1排気管55が排気マニホールド52に接触せず、かつ、排気管の着脱作業が可能といった通常必要な各種条件を満たす範囲で最小限の隙間に設定される。これによって、第1触媒58は排気マニホールド52に寄せて配置される。
 第1触媒58には、排気直後の高温の排気ガスが供給され、かつ、排気マニホールド52の輻射熱が作用するので、第1触媒58の温度を迅速に活性化温度にすることが可能になる。
 本構成では、図3に示すように、第1排気管55の直管部分と第1触媒58との間に、排気ガスが通過可能な隙間S2が設けられている。これにより、第1排気管55に流入した排気ガスの一部を、第1触媒58を通過させずに第1排気管55から排出でき、排気ガス全てが第1触媒58を通過する場合と比べ、排気抵抗を低減できる。この隙間S2を適宜に調整することによって、第1排気管55の排気抵抗を適正範囲内に容易に調整可能である。
 なお、図3の例では、第1排気管55の直管部分55Aの一部を他の部分と比べて大径にすることで、相対的に大径の第1触媒58を配置できると共に、第1触媒58を通過する排ガスの流速を下げ、排気ガスと第1触媒58との接触時間を十分に確保している。ただし、この構成に限定されず、直管部分55Aを全て同一径にしてもよい。
 また、第1排気管55のうち、直管部分55Aの少なくとも大径の部分(第1触媒58が配置される部分に相当)を別体で構成してもよいし、一体で構成してもよい。別体で構成した場合、第1触媒58を金属製ケース内に保持した触媒コンバータを製作し、この触媒コンバータを第1排気管55に連結する構成にしてもよい。
 屈曲管56は、第1排気管55から上方に延びた後に下方に屈曲する筒形状に形成されている。この屈曲管56は第1排気管55と一体でもよいし、別体でもよい。
 第2排気管57は、屈曲管56から下方に延びる筒形状に形成され、第1排気管55に隣接している。この第2排気管57は、第1排気管55との間に隙間S3を空けて隣接し、かつ、第1排気管55と平行に延びる直管部分57Aを有している。なお、直管部分57Aよりも下流側の部分は、下方に延びてエクステンションカバー27(図1参照)内に入り、排気ガスを水中に排出する。この直管部分57Aには、排気ガスを浄化する第2触媒59が収容されている。
 第2触媒59は、窒素酸化物だけを吸着する吸着型の触媒であり、より具体的にはNOx吸蔵還元触媒である。
 本実施形態の船外機10は、エンジン23に供給する燃料と空気の混合比である空燃比を理論空燃比よりもリーン側にしたリーン燃焼を行うことができる。リーン燃焼の場合、第1触媒58を三元触媒にすることによってCO、HCを十分に除去し易くなる。しかし、リーン燃焼の場合、排気ガスの酸素濃度が高くなるので、酸素が余り、第1触媒58ではNOxの除去が不十分になることがある。本実施形態では、第2触媒59をNOx吸蔵還元触媒にすることで、第1触媒58だけでは十分に除去されなかったNOxを第2触媒59で除去可能になる。
 また、第2触媒59を三元触媒にしないことで、第1触媒58及び第2触媒59を三元触媒にする場合と比べ、白金等のレアメタルの量を低減でき、コスト低減に有利となる、といったメリットも得られる。
 なお、単にコスト低減だけを目的とした場合、第2触媒59をNOx吸蔵還元触媒にする構成に限定されない。例えば、第2触媒59を、第1触媒58よりも触媒材料の種類や量を低減した触媒にしたり、プレート触媒構造等にしたりしてもよい。すなわち、第2触媒59を第1触媒58よりも簡易側にするだけでも、コスト低減に有利である。
 なお、第2触媒59に要求される除去性能が高い場合等は、第2触媒59を三元触媒にしてもよい。
 第1排気管55と第2排気管57との間の隙間S3、つまり、第1及び第2排気管55、57の直管部分55A、57A同士の隙間S3は、隣接する第1排気管55と第2排気管57とが、外部振動等の影響で互いに接触しない等の一般的な条件を満たす範囲で最小限の隙間にすることが好ましい。
 これにより、第1排気管55と第2排気管57とを近接配置でき、排気管53全体をコンパクト化できる。
 図3に示すように、第1触媒58と第2触媒59とは、両触媒58、59の少なくとも一部が水平方向に重なる高さに配置されている。換言すると、第1触媒58の下端58L(上流端)から上端58H(下流端)の高さ範囲内に、第2触媒59が位置する。図3の例では、第2触媒59の50%以上の範囲が、第1触媒58と水平方向に重なるように、第2触媒59の下端59L(下流端)及び上端59H(上流端)の位置が設定されている。
 また、同図3に示すように、第1及び第2触媒58、59は、第1排気管55の上下中央位置HC1よりも高所寄りにオフセットした位置(図3中、第2触媒59の上下中央位置を符号HC2で示す)に配置されている。これにより、第1及び第2触媒58、59を相対的に高い位置に配置でき、水面から各触媒58、59までの高さを十分に確保し、被水防止により有利となる。
 しかも、上流側の第1触媒58は、上方凸に屈曲する屈曲管56を介して第2排気管57につながるので、第1触媒58から排気管出口までの距離を長く確保でき、かつ、屈曲管56の高さまで水が浸入しない限り、第1触媒58が被水することがない。これにより、第1触媒58の被水防止により有利となる。
 なお、図3の例では、第1触媒58を第2触媒59よりもやや上方に配置しているが、第1触媒58と第2触媒59を同じ高さに配置してもよいし、第1触媒58を第2触媒59よりも低い位置に配置してもよい。また、図3の例では、第1及び第2触媒58、59を同じ長さにしているが、異なる長さにしてもよい。
 図3中、符号H3は、屈曲管56の最も高い位置を示し、排気管53の最も高い位置に相当する。この位置H3は、第1排気管55が配置される空きスペースの高さに依存し、つまり、エンジン23とエンジンカバー24との間の空きスペース内の可及的に高い位置に設定される。本実施形態では、位置H3は排気マニホールド52の上端とほぼ同じ高さに設定されている。
 また、第2排気管57は、第1排気管55を挟んで排気マニホールド52の反対側に設けられている。この構成によれば、排気マニホールド52側から第1排気管55及び第2排気管57の順でこれらを互いに寄せて配置でき、コンパクトに配置し易くなる。
 以上の構成により、図2に示すように、エンジンカバー24内であって、排気マニホールド52の側方(船外機10の前方に相当)、かつ、エンジン23の測方(船外機10の右側方)に空く空きスペースに、第1排気管55、屈曲管56及び第2排気管57をコンパクトに配置できる。
 また、第1排気管55の場合と同様に、第2排気管57の直管部分57Aと第2触媒59との間にも、排気ガスが通過可能な隙間S4が設けられ、かつ、この直管部分57Aの一部を他の部分と比べて大径にし、相対的に大径の第2触媒59を配置している。これらにより、第2排気管57の排気抵抗を適正範囲内に低減しながら、排気ガスと第2触媒59との接触時間を十分に確保している。
 なお、第2排気管57についても、直管部分57Aを全て同一径にしてもよいし、第2触媒59を金属製ケース内に保持した触媒コンバータを製作し、この触媒コンバータを第2排気管57に連結する構成にしてもよい。
 ところで、この種の船外機10をコンパクト化し、かつ、軽量化することは、性能及び経済性のいずれの観点からも重要である。更に、本実施形態の船外機10は、直接冷却であり、つまり、水を吸入してエンジン23等を冷却した後、その水を外に放出する構成であるため、種々の条件が重なってしまうとエンジン23内等に水が浸入する可能性があり、被水対策が必要になる。また、船外機10内の上記水が排気管53の配置空間を通過すること、及び、上記水の出口と排気管53の出口が空間的につながっていることからも被水対策が必要である。
 本構成では、図1に示すように、排気管53が排気マニホールド52から上方に向けて延びた後に下方に屈曲して排気口のある下方に向かうので、排気管53に対する被水対策としても有効である。
 しかも、排気マニホールド52から上方に向けて延びる第1排気管55と、第1排気管55から屈曲管56を介して下方に向けて延びる第2排気管57とのそれぞれに、第1及び第2触媒58、59を振り分けて配置したので、第1及び第2排気管55、57のいずれか一方に触媒をまとめて配置する場合と比べ、各触媒58、59の小型化、及び短縮化が可能である。各触媒58、59の小径化により船外機10の横幅を狭くすることが可能になり、各触媒58、59の短縮化により、第1及び第2排気管55、57が上方に長くなって船外機10が上方に大型化する事態を避けることも可能である。
 船舶によっては、この種の船外機を複数台セットすることがある。船外機の操舵は、全ての船外機、或いは一部の船外機を左右に振って実施するため、船外機の横幅が大きくなるほど、隣の船外機と干渉する可能性が高くなる。したがって、船外機の横幅が大きくなると、船舶の幅によっては必要台数の船外機をセットできなくなる。本構成の船外機10の横幅の増大を抑えることができるので、船舶に複数台の船外機をセットする場合に好適である。
 触媒の早期活性化の観点からは、第1排気管55に第1触媒58を配置しているので、高温の排気ガスで第1触媒58を速やかに活性化温度まで温度上昇させることができ、早期活性化に有利である。第1触媒58の耐久性を考慮すると、排気マニホールド52直後に第1触媒58を配置する場合と比べ、第1排気管55の上下中央位置HC1よりも高所寄りにオフセットした位置に配置することが好ましい。
 第2触媒59についても、第1排気管55の上下中央位置HC1よりも高所寄りにオフセットした位置に配置しているので、第2触媒59の被水対策に有効である。
 また、本構成では、第1及び第2触媒58、59の少なくとも一部が水平方向に重なる高さに配置されるので、排気管53の上方への大型化を抑制しながら、第1及び第2触媒58、59を相対的に高い位置に配置できる。
 このように、本構成では、触媒等の被水対策、船外機10のスリム化及び触媒の早期活性化の観点から合理的な触媒レイアウトを実現している。
 図3に示すように、第1排気管55、屈曲管56及び第2排気管57には、ウォータ-ジャケット63が設けられている。ウォータ-ジャケット63は、船外機10が有する不図示のウォータポンプによって吐出される周囲の水(エンジンの冷却水でもよい)が供給される冷却水通路である。これによって、各排気管55、56、57や各触媒58、59の過度の温度上昇を抑制でき、適正温度範囲内に調整し易くなる。
 なお、ウォータ-ジャケット63は、第1排気管55、屈曲管56及び第2排気管57の全てに設ける態様に限定されず、一部だけに設けるようにしてもよい。一部だけにウォータ-ジャケット63を設けた場合、その箇所を集中的に冷却できるだけでなく、排気管55、56、57そのものの熱伝導性により、その周囲も冷却できる。
 ウォータ-ジャケット63を設ける場合、少なくとも屈曲管56の全体又は一部に設けるようにすれば、ウォータ-ジャケット63を基準にして上流側及び下流側を冷却でき、第1及び第2触媒58、59の両方を効率良く温度調整できる。
 制御部71は、マイクロコンピュータ等で構成され、エンジン23を含む船外機10の各部を中枢的に制御する。この制御部71は、スロットル量及びエンジン回転数等に合わせて燃料噴射量を制御する通常のエンジン制御を行うと共に、このエンジン制御の際に、燃料噴射量等を適宜に調整することによって、燃料と空気の混合比である空燃比をリーン側等に制御するリーン燃焼制御を行う機能を有している。
 図3に示すように、排気管53には、第1触媒58の上流の排気ガス中の酸素濃度を検出する第1センサ75と、第1触媒58と第2触媒59の間の排気ガス中の酸素濃度を検出する第2センサ76と、第2触媒59の下流の排気ガス中の酸素濃度を検出する第3センサ77とが設けられている。これら第1~第3センサ75、76、77には、例えばLAFセンサ又はOセンサが使用される。
 制御部71は、第1~第3センサ75、76、77の検出結果に基づいて第1及び第2触媒59のそれぞれの排気浄化状態を特定可能な情報を取得する。より具体的には、制御部71は、第1及び第2センサ75、76によって検出される酸素濃度の差等に基づいて、公知の手法により第1触媒58通過後の浄化率を求める。さらに、制御部71は、第2及び第3センサ76、77によって検出される酸素濃度の差等に基づいて、公知の手法により第2触媒59通過後の浄化率を求める。
 制御部71は、燃費の向上等を目的としてエンジン負荷が少ない状況等の場合に、空燃比を理論空燃比よりもリーン側にしたリーン燃焼制御を行う。リーン燃焼が長時間継続した場合、第2触媒59(本実施形態ではNOx吸蔵還元触媒)のNOx吸着量が飽和吸着量に達するおそれがある。
 そこで、本実施形態の制御部71は、少なくともリーン燃焼制御を行っている場合に、第2及び第3センサ76、77の検出結果から得られる浄化率に基づいて、第2触媒59の吸着量が飽和状態に近い状態か否かを判定する。つまり、本実施形態において、第2及び第3センサ76、77は、第2触媒59の吸着量が飽和状態に近い状態か否かを特定可能な情報を検出するセンサとして機能している。
 なお、第2触媒59の吸着量が飽和状態に近い状態か否かを検出可能にするセンサは、LAFセンサ又はOセンサに限定されず、NOxの濃度を検出するNOxセンサでもよい。
 第2触媒59の吸着量が飽和状態に近い状態と判定すると、制御部71は、空燃比を理論空燃比よりもリッチ側に切り替える制御(以下、リッチスパイク運転と言う)を行う。リッチ側に切り替えることで、第2触媒59に吸蔵されたNOxがHCと反応し、NOxの還元反応を促すことができる。
 このリッチスパイク運転を開始した後、制御部71は、第1センサ75及び/又は第2センサ76の検出結果に基づいて第2触媒59に流入する排気ガスの空燃比が十分にリッチになり、かつ、その状態が、NOxの還元を十分に行う事が可能な所定時間が経過したか否かを判定する。そして、所定時間が経過したと判定すると、制御部71は、リッチスパイク運転を停止し、リーン燃焼制御に復帰する。以上の制御により、第2触媒59の吸着量が飽和状態になる事態を回避でき、排気ガスを継続して浄化可能になる。
 以上説明したように、本実施形態の排気管53は、排気マニホールド52の側方を上方に延びる第1排気管55内に第1触媒58が設けられ、かつ、第1排気管55から延びる屈曲管56から下方に延びると共に第1排気管55に隣接する第2排気管57内に第2触媒59が設けられ、第2触媒59は、第1排気管55の上下中央位置HC1よりも高所寄りにオフセットした位置に配置された構成を備えている。
 この構成によれば、複数の第1及び第2触媒58、59を、屈曲管56に対して上流及び下流に位置する第1及び第2排気管55、57に振り分け配置できる。これにより、触媒の配置及びサイズ等の自由度が向上し、船外機10への触媒配置、及び高い排気浄化性能の確保が容易になると共に船外機10の小型化も可能でなる。しかも、第1触媒58で触媒全体が有効利用されない場合(例えば、第1触媒58が過度に高温になった場合)が生じても、第1触媒58と距離を空けた位置で、浄化率の低い排気ガスが第2触媒59を通過することで、トータルの浄化率を向上させることができる。
 また、第1触媒58を上流側の高温排気ガスで温度上昇でき、第2触媒59を、第1触媒58を通過した直後の排気ガスで温度上昇できるので、第1及び第2触媒58、59の早期活性化に有利となる。さらに、第1触媒58から排気管出口までの距離、及び第2触媒59の水面からの高さを効率良く確保できるので、第1及び第2触媒58、59の被水防止に有利である。これらにより、触媒の配置に関する制約を低減すると共に、触媒の早期活性化と長期性能維持とを両立可能になる。
 また、第1及び第2触媒58、59は、第1排気管55の上下中央位置HC1よりも高所寄りにオフセットした位置であり、かつ、両触媒58、59の少なくとも一部が水平方向に重なる高さに配置されるので、第1及び第2排気管55、57の上方への大型化を抑制しながら、第1及び第2触媒58、59を相対的に高い位置に配置でき、第1及び第2触媒58、59の被水対策に有効である。
 また、第1排気管55は、排気マニホールド52に隣接すると共に、排気マニホールド52に沿って上方に延びるので、排気直後の排気ガスの熱で相対的に高温となる排気マニホールド52の熱を効率良く利用して第1触媒58を温度上昇させることができる。
 また、第2排気管57は、第1排気管55に隣接する。これらにより、排気管53全体をコンパクト化し易くなり、船外機10の小型化に有効である。
 また、第1排気管55と第1触媒58との間、及び、第2排気管57と第2触媒59との間に排気ガスが通過可能な隙間S2、S4が設けられるので、排気抵抗を低減し易くなる。なお、排気抵抗を適正範囲内に調整できる場合、隙間S2、S4のいずれかを設けないようにしてもよい。
 さらに、排気管53のうち、少なくとも屈曲管56にウォータージャケット63が設けられるので、各排気管55、56、57、第1触媒58及び第2触媒59の過度の温度上昇を抑制し易くなる。なお、各排気管55、56、57、第1触媒58及び第2触媒59の温度を適正範囲内にできる場合は、ウォータージャケット63を設けないようにしてもよい。
 また、第2触媒59を、第1触媒58に対し、触媒材料、及び、触媒材料を担持する担体の少なくともいずれかが異なる簡易型にすることで、コスト低減に有利となる。この場合、第1触媒58を三元触媒とし、第2触媒59を窒素酸化物だけを除去する触媒にすることによって、空燃比を理論空燃比よりもリーン側にしたリーン燃焼の場合に、三元触媒でCO、HCを十分に除去しながら、三元触媒では十分に除去されなかったNOxを第2触媒59で十分に除去し易くなる。
 また、第2触媒59を、窒素酸化物を吸着する吸着型にした場合、制御部71が、第2及び第3センサ76、77によって検出される情報に基づいて、第2触媒59の吸着量が飽和状態に近い状態と判定すると、空燃比を理論空燃比よりもリッチ側に制御して、第2触媒59に吸着された窒素酸化物の還元反応を促すので、第2触媒59の吸着量が飽和状態になる事態を回避できる。
(第2実施形態)
 図4は第2実施形態の船外機10の排気系部品51の構造を模式的に示した図である。なお、第1実施形態と同様の構成は同一の符号を付して示し、重複説明は省略する。
 第2実施形態は、第1触媒58の上流端に相当する下端58Lが、第1排気管55の下端位置H1に可及的に寄せて配置され、第2触媒59の上流端に相当する上端59Hが、第2排気管57の上端位置(本実施形態では第1排気管57Mの上端位置H2と同じ高さ)に可及的に寄せて配置される点が第1実施形態と異なる。換言すると、第1触媒58の下端58Lを第2触媒59よりも低い位置となり、かつ、第1触媒58と第2触媒59との高低差が最大となるようにしている。
 この構成によれば、第1触媒58が排気マニホールド52の排気出口に可及的に近接するので、より高温の排気ガスによって第1触媒58を温度上昇させることができ、第1触媒58の排気浄化効率を優先することができる。また、第2触媒59を水面より可及的に高い位置に配置できるので、第2触媒59の被水防止効果を向上できる。
 さらに、第1触媒58と第2触媒59との離間距離を長くできるので、第1触媒58で触媒全体が有効利用されない場合(例えば、第1触媒58が過度に高温になった場合)が生じても、第2触媒59によってトータルの浄化率を確保し易くなる。
 なお、図4の例では、第2触媒59の下端59Lを、第1触媒58の上端58Hよりも上方に配置する場合を示したが、これに限定されない。例えば、第1及び第2排気管55、57の上方への大型化を抑制する範囲内で、第1及び第2触媒58、59の位置を微調整してもよく、図5に示すように、第2触媒59の下端59Lを、第1触媒58の上端58Hよりも下方に配置することで、第1及び第2触媒58、59が少なくとも一部水平方向に互いに重なるようにしてもよい。
 上述の実施形態は、あくまでも本発明の一実施の態様であり、本発明の趣旨を逸脱しない範囲で任意に変形、及び応用が可能である。
 例えば、上述の実施形態ではエンジン23がガソリンエンジンの場合を説明したが、ディーゼルエンジン等の排気浄化が必要なエンジンでもよい。第1及び第2触媒58、59はエンジン23に応じて適切な触媒を選択すればよく、例えば、ディーゼルエンジンの場合には、SCR(Selection Catalyst Reduction)触媒、又はSoot(Soot catalyst)触媒といったディーゼルエンジンに適した触媒を使用すればよい。
 また、図1等に示す船外機10に本発明を適用する場合を説明したが、本発明を公知の他の船外機に適用してもよい。この場合、排気系部品51を構成する排気マニホールド52、及び排気管53等の形状、及び位置は、エンジン23及びエンジン23周囲の空くスペースの位置等に応じて適宜に変更すればよい。

  1.  水面よりも高い位置にエンジンを備え、前記エンジンに設けられ、前記エンジンからの排気ガスを集合させる排気マニホールドと、前記排気マニホールドから延びる排気管とを有する船外機において、
     前記排気管は、前記排気マニホールドの側方を上方に延びる第1排気管と、前記第1排気管から延びて下方に屈曲する屈曲管と、前記屈曲管から下方に延びると共に前記第1排気管に隣接する第2排気管とを有し、
     前記第1排気管内に、排気浄化用の第1触媒が設けられると共に、前記第2排気管内に、排気浄化用の第2触媒が設けられ、
     前記第2触媒は、前記第1排気管の上下中央位置よりも高所寄りにオフセットした位置に配置されていることを特徴とする船外機。
  2.  前記第1及び第2触媒は、前記第1排気管の上下中央位置よりも高所寄りにオフセットした位置であり、かつ、両触媒の少なくとも一部が水平方向に重なる高さに配置されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の船外機。

  11.  前記第1触媒は三元触媒であり、前記第2触媒は窒素酸化物だけを除去する触媒であることを特徴とする請求項1乃至10のいずれか一項に記載の船外機。
  12.  前記第2触媒は、窒素酸化物を吸着する吸着型であり、
     前記エンジンに供給する混合気の空燃比を制御可能な制御部と、
     前記第2触媒の吸着量が飽和状態に近い状態か否かを特定可能な情報を検出するセンサとを備え、
     前記制御部は、前記空燃比を理論空燃比よりもリーン側に制御している場合に、前記センサによって検出される情報に基づいて、前記第2触媒の吸着量が飽和状態に近い状態と判定すると、前記空燃比を理論空燃比よりもリッチ側に制御して、前記第2触媒に吸着された窒素酸化物の還元反応を促すことを特徴とする請求項1乃至11のいずれか一項に記載の船外機。
