Definitions
- the present invention relates to a cylindrical battery having a current interrupting mechanism with reduced variation in operating pressure.
- the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery When the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is discharged by an excessive current due to an external short circuit or a failure of the charger or is overcharged, the pressure or temperature inside the battery is accompanied by a chemical reaction such as decomposition of the electrolyte. As it rises, the battery is exposed to the risk of rupture or ignition. Therefore, a current interrupting mechanism for interrupting the current path inside the battery when the pressure inside the battery reaches a predetermined value is incorporated in the inside of the sealing member of the cylindrical non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery.
- the current interrupting mechanism is composed of two metal plates joined together and an insulating plate interposed therebetween.
- the metal plate disposed outward of the battery protrudes toward the gold electrode plate disposed inwardly of the battery, and the tip of the projection is joined to the metal plate disposed inwardly of the battery.
- the pressure inside the battery rises and reaches a predetermined value
- the metal plate on the outside of the battery deforms so as to invert, so the joint between the two metal plates breaks and the current path inside the battery is interrupted.
- the pressure inside the battery further increases, the metal plate outside the battery is broken and the gas inside the battery is discharged.
- a valve made of a flexible metal plate is used as a part of the component of the current interrupting mechanism.
- a terminal cap which functions as an external terminal is disposed at a portion of the sealing body exposed to the outside of the battery.
- a conductive intermediate member having an opening at its center may be disposed between the terminal cap and the valve element constituting the current interrupting mechanism.
- a metal washer is disposed between the terminal cap and the valve body.
- Metal washers are generally made by stamping a metal plate inserted between the punch and the die. Therefore, the inner diameter of the innermost peripheral portion of the contact portion of the metal washer with the valve body seems to be the same value regardless of which of the front and back of the metal washer abuts on the valve body. However, when forming an opening at the center of the metal washer by punching a metal plate, a sagging is formed on one of the front and back of the metal plate, and a burr is formed on the other. Therefore, the inner diameter of the innermost peripheral portion of the contact portion fluctuates depending on which of the front and back of the metal washer abuts on the valve body, and the operating pressure of the current interrupting mechanism changes.
- the sealing body when the sealing body is manufactured by randomly using the front and back of the metal washer, the variation in the operating pressure of the current interrupting mechanism becomes large.
- the variation of operating pressure can be reduced by unifying the direction of a metal washer, such a method causes the complication of the manufacturing process of a cylindrical battery, and the raise of manufacturing cost.
- a cylindrical battery according to one aspect of the present invention includes an electrode body in which a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate are wound via a separator, an electrolytic solution, an electrode body and
- the container has a bottomed cylindrical outer can for containing an electrolytic solution, and a sealing body, and the sealing body includes a terminal cap, a valve body constituting a current blocking mechanism, and an opening at a center interposed therebetween.
- a washer having a recess formed on the periphery of the opening on each surface at both ends in the thickness direction, and a flat portion disposed on the periphery of the recess, the recess and the flat on each surface of the washer Are characterized in that they are arranged so as to overlap each other in the thickness direction of the washer.
- the innermost peripheral portion of the contact portion of the washer with the valve body coincides with the boundary between the flat portion and the recess portion of the washer surface.

- the positive electrode lead 11 a and the negative electrode lead 12 a are connected to the positive electrode plate 11 and the negative electrode plate 12, respectively.
- the positive electrode lead 11 a is connected to the sealing body 20, and the negative electrode lead 12 a is connected to the bottom of the outer can 18.
- known materials used for the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery can be appropriately selected and used.
- the sealing body 20 is composed of a terminal cap 21, a washer 22, a valve body 23, an inner gasket 24, and an internal terminal plate 25.
- the terminal cap 21, the washer 22 and the valve body 23 are fixed by caulking on the outer peripheral portion of the internal terminal plate 25 via the inner gasket 24.
- An insulating resin is used for the inner gasket 24, and the valve body 23 and the internal terminal plate 25 are joined to each other to secure a current path from the internal terminal plate 25 to the terminal cap 21. Since the internal terminal plate 25 is provided with a vent, when the pressure inside the battery rises, the valve body 23 receives the pressure. When the pressure inside the battery reaches a predetermined value, the joint between the valve body 23 and the internal terminal plate 25 is broken to interrupt the current path inside the battery. When the pressure inside the battery further increases, the valve body 23 is broken and the gas inside the battery is discharged through the vent provided in the terminal cap 21.
- valve body 23 and the internal terminal plate 25 a metal material which can be stably present even when exposed to a non-aqueous electrolyte at a positive electrode potential, and as such metal materials, aluminum and aluminum alloys are exemplified. Ru.
- the valve body 23 and the inner terminal plate 25 can be joined together by ultrasonic welding or laser welding.
- an insulating resin material for the inner gasket 24 interposed between the valve body 23 and the internal terminal plate 25 examples include polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutylene terephthalate, and polyphenylene sulfide. Be done.
- the current interrupting mechanism is composed of three members of a valve body that can be deformed as the pressure inside the battery increases, a conductive member joined to the inner surface of the battery of the valve body, and an insulating member interposed therebetween. be able to.
- the current interrupting mechanism is constituted by the valve body 23, the internal terminal plate 25 and the inner gasket 24 interposed therebetween, but the current interrupting mechanism of the present invention is not limited to such a configuration.
- a metal plate may be interposed between the valve body and the inner terminal plate, and the metal plate may be used as a component of the current interrupting mechanism instead of the inner terminal plate.
- the thin part can be provided on the metal plate as the easily breakable part, and the thin part can be used as a current blocking part.
- a metal material excellent in oxidation resistance examples include nickel, iron plated with nickel, and stainless steel. Be done.
- a PTC element Positive Temperature Coefficient formed by mixing a conductive powder and a resin, for example, can be used.
- the recessed part 22c is formed in the surface of the washer 22 around the opening part 22a.
- a flat portion 22b having a flat surface is disposed around the recess 22c.
- the planar shape of the boundary line 22d is circular.
- the planar shape of the boundary line 22d is preferably similar to the planar shape of the opening 22a.
- Boundary lines 22 d formed on the surfaces of the washer 22 are arranged to overlap with each other in the thickness direction of the washer 22.
- a step is formed from the flat portion 22b to the opening 22a. Since such a step contributes to the quick reversal of the valve body 23 when the current blocking mechanism operates, it is preferable to form the step across the flat portion 22b and the opening 22a.
- step difference an inclined surface may intervene between the plane part 22b and a bottom part, and a curved surface may intervene between the plane part 22b and a bottom part.
- FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view of a washer 52 according to another embodiment of the present invention.
- a recess 52c may be formed between the flat portion 52b and the opening 52a, and may be formed only of an inclined surface. In this case, no step is formed from the flat portion 52b to the opening 52a, but the boundary 22d is clearly formed between the flat portion 52b and the recess 22c, so the same effect as the washer 22 of the above embodiment is obtained. It is exhibited.
- FIG. 6 is a schematic view showing a method of forming the opening 22a at the center of the washer 22 and the recess 22c around the opening 22a in the metal plate 30 which is a raw material of the washer 22 by press working.
- the metal plate 30 is fixed to the die 32 by the pressing jig 33.
- the punch 31 is punched toward the opening of the die 32 to form an opening 22a in the metal plate 30 (FIG. 6A).
- a sag is formed on one surface of the metal plate 30, and a burr is formed on the other surface.

- the washer 22 is manufactured by punching out the position corresponding to the outer peripheral portion of the washer 22 of the metal plate 30.
- the method of manufacturing the washer is not limited to the above-described punching process of the metal plate, and for example, the washer may be manufactured by casting in which a metal material as a raw material is cast into a mold.
- a sagging may be formed on one of the front and back of the washer and a burr may not be formed on the other, but a burr may be formed on only one of the front and the back of the washer.
- the present invention it is possible to prevent the influence of such burrs and to prevent the change in the operating pressure of the current interrupting mechanism due to the difference between the front and back of the washer.
- the present invention exhibits the effect of reducing the variation in the operating pressure of the current interrupting mechanism even when the washer is manufactured by a method other than punching.
- the washer 22 was produced by punching a metal plate 30 made of nickel. First, the opening 22a was formed in the metal plate 30 as shown in FIG. 6 (a), and then the recess 22c was formed around the opening 22a as shown in FIG. 6 (b). The planar shape of the opening 22a and the recess 22c is circular. Finally, the metal plate 30 was punched out from the center of the opening 22a along a circle of a predetermined radius to produce a washer 22 having an outer diameter of 15.5 mm. The inner diameter of the opening 22a was 6.0 mm, and the diameter of the circle formed by the boundary 22d of the flat portion 22b of the washer 22 and the recess 22c was 6.4 mm.
- the terminal cap 21, the washer 22, the valve body 23, the inner gasket 24, and the internal terminal plate 25 are used as constituent members of the sealing body 20.
- the inner gasket 24 and the valve body 23 were laminated on the inner terminal board 25 made of an aluminum plate, and the internal terminal board 25 and the valve body 23 were joined to each other at their central portions.
- An aluminum foil was used for the valve body 23.
- the washer 22 and the terminal cap 21 were laminated on the valve body 23, and the flange portion of the terminal cap 21 was crimped and fixed by the internal terminal plate 25 via the inner gasket 24 to produce the sealing body 20 according to the embodiment. .
- a nickel-plated iron plate was used for the terminal cap 21.
- the opening 82a was formed by punching the metal plate 30 made of nickel (FIG. 7A).
- the entire surface of the metal plate 30 was pressed and planarized using pressing jigs 36 and 37 having flat surfaces (FIG. 7 (b)).
- the metal plate 30 was punched out from the center of the opening 82a along a circle of a predetermined radius to produce a washer 82 shown in FIG. 8 having an outer diameter of 15.5 mm.
- the inner diameter of the opening 82a of the washer 82 was 6.4 mm.
- the inner diameter thereof corresponds to the diameter of the circle formed by the boundary 22d of the flat portion 22b and the recess 22c of the washer 22 of the embodiment.
- the dripping 83 is formed in one of the front and back of the washer 82 of a comparative example, and the burr
- a sealing body according to a comparative example was produced in the same manner as in the example except that the washer 82 produced as described above was used.
- the step of forming the concave portion shown in FIG. 6 (b) doubles as planar molding. Therefore, according to the method of manufacturing the washer of the embodiment, the recess can be formed without increasing the number of steps of the manufacturing process of the washer as compared with the comparative example.
- the standard deviation of the operating pressure of the current interrupting mechanism of the example is significantly lower than that of the comparative example, and the formation of the recess around the opening of the washer reduces the variation of the operating pressure. It turns out that it is contributing greatly.
- a sag is formed on one of the front and back of the washer of the comparative example, and a burr is formed on the other. Since the operating pressure of the current interrupting mechanism changes due to the difference between the front and back, it is presumed that the variation in operating pressure of the current interrupting mechanism becomes large when the front and back of the washer are used randomly when producing the sealing body. Be done.
- the present invention does not depend on the material of the electrode body and the electrolyte contained in the inside of the outer can. Therefore, the present invention can be applied not only to non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries but also to other cylindrical batteries such as nickel-cadmium batteries and nickel-metal hydride batteries.
- the industrial applicability of the present invention is large.

Abstract
