Abstract

본 발명은 나노홀 어레이 및 나노디스크 어레이의 상보적 결합에 의한 투과 스펙트럼 변조를 이용하는 각감응성 가변 광학 필터 및 그 제조 방법에 관한 것이다. 보다 구체적으로는, 본 발명은 멀티 스펙트럴 이미징(multi spectral imaging)에 사용될 수 있도록 특정 파장의 빛을 투과시키도록 이루어지되, 투과시키고자 하는 파장을 용이하고 정확하게 조절할 수 있도록 하는 광학 필터 및 그 제조 방법에 관한 것이다.

Description

나노홀 어레이 및 나노디스크 어레이의 상보적 결합에 의한 투과 스펙트럼 변조를 이용하는 각감응성 가변 광학 필터 및 그 제조 방법
본 발명은 나노홀 어레이 및 나노디스크 어레이의 상보적 결합에 의한 투과 스펙트럼 변조를 이용하는 각감응성 가변 광학 필터 및 그 제조 방법에 관한 것이다. 보다 구체적으로는, 본 발명은 멀티 스펙트럴 이미징(multi spectral imaging)에 사용될 수 있도록 특정 파장의 빛을 투과시키도록 이루어지되, 투과시키고자 하는 파장을 용이하고 정확하게 조절할 수 있도록 하는 광학 필터 및 그 제조 방법에 관한 것이다.
멀티 스펙트럴 이미징(multi spectral imaging)이란 대상체로부터 반사 혹은 방사되는 전자기파 에너지를 여러 개의 좁은 파장대역별로 분할하여 기록 영상화한 것을 말하는 것으로, 일반적으로 청색, 녹색, 적색, 근적외선의 4채널로 분할하여 측정하는 카메라에 의한 사진 방법, 통상 수십 내지 수백 개의 파장 대역으로 분할하여 측정하는 주사에 의한 기계 전자공학적 방법 등이 있다. 이러한 멀티 스펙트럴 이미징은, 예를 들어 의료 분야에서 혈관 디텍팅을 하는 경우라든가, 제품 검수 분야에서 상하거나 멍이 든 과일을 색깔로 분별하여 불량품을 검수해 내는 경우 등과 같이, 수없이 다양하고 넓은 분야에서 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
일반적인 CMOS 이미지 센서의 경우, 하나의 픽셀이 사분면으로 영역이 나뉘어 있어서, 1사분면으로 이루어지는 R 영역에서는 빨간색 빛만을 투과시켜 감지하고, 2, 4사분면으로 이루어지는 G 영역에서는 초록색 빛만을 투과시켜 감지하고, 3사분면으로 이루어지는 B 영역에서는 파란색 빛만을 투과시켜 감지한다. 이와 같이 한 픽셀 안에서 R/G/B 영역으로 나뉘어 감지된 빛의 세기 데이터를 취합함으로써, 풀컬러 이미지를 생성할 수도 있고, 또는 예를 들어 빨간색 빛만으로 만들어진 이미지를 생성할 수도 있다. 그런데 이 때, 예를 들어 빨간색 빛만으로 만들어진 이미지를 생성하고자 하는 경우, 실제로 빨간색 빛을 감지하는 영역은 한 픽셀의 1/4 영역밖에 되지 않으며 나머지 3/4 영역은 빨간색 이미징에는 아무런 관련이 없다. 즉 빨간색 이미징으로 국한하여 생각할 때 나머지 3/4 영역은 불필요한 면적이 되는 것이다. 물론 초록색 이미징, 파란색 이미징의 경우에는 해당 색깔의 빛을 투과시키는 영역 이외의 영역이 이러한 불필요한 면적이 된다. 이처럼 특정 색깔의 이미징을 함에 있어서, CMOS 이미지 센서의 경우 상술한 바와 같은 불필요한 면적들로 인하여 해상도를 향상하는데 필연적인 한계가 발생하게 된다.
이러한 문제를 해소하기 위해 특정 파장 대역의 빛만을 투과시키는 필터를 카메라 앞에 놓고 물리적으로 이 필터를 교체해 가면서 촬영하는 형태로 된 스펙트럴 카메라가 사용되기도 한다. 또는 이와 유사한 방식으로서 일본특허공개 제2008-089599호("멀티스펙트럼 촬상 장치, 멀티스펙트럼 조명 장치", 이하 선행문헌 1)에는, 특정 파장의 광을 대상물로 조사하는 멀티 스펙트럼 조명 장치 및 이 반사광을 결상하는 촬상 광학계로 이루어지는 장치가 개시된다. 기존의 스펙트럴 카메라는 대상물로 조사되는 빛에는 제한을 두지 않되 실제 촬상이 이루어지는 광학계(즉 카메라)로 들어오는 빛을 필터링하도록 이루어지는 반면, 선행문헌 1의 경우 대상물로 조사되는 빛 자체의 파장 대역을 제한하도록 이루어지는 것이다. 그러나 이러한 스펙트럴 카메라들은, 필터나 조명 장치 등으로 인하여 필연적으로 부피가 커지게 되며, 따라서 소형화가 어려워서 결과적으로 활용에 있어 제한이 있다.
이처럼 멀티 스펙트럴 이미징을 위하여 원하는 특정 파장 대역의 빛만을 용이하고 정확하게 투과시킬 수 있는 가변 필터를 개발하기 위한 다양한 연구가 꾸준히 이루어져 왔다. 이러한 연구로부터 발견된 현상으로서, 나노홀 어레이(nanohole array)를 이용하여 특정 파장 대역의 빛만을 투과시키는 특이 광 투과(Extraordinary Optical Transmission, EOT) 현상이 있다. 특이 광 투과(EOT) 현상이란 빛이 어떤 틈을 통과할 때 투과하는 세기가 비정상적으로 강하게 발생하는 현상으로서, 기존의 이론과 달리 파장 이하의 크기를 가지는 슬릿에서는 투과율이 거의 없어야 하지만 실제로는 표면 플라즈몬에 의해 강한 세기의 빛이 투과되는 것을 말한다. 한국특허등록 제1710570호("특이 광 투과 현상을 위한 나노홀 어레이 기판 및 이를 이용하는 초고해상도 이미지 시스템", 이하 선행문헌 2)에는 이러한 특이 광 투과 현상을 발생시키기 위한 나노홀 어레이 기판 및 이를 이용한 초고해상도 이미지 시스템 기술이 개시된다.
선행문헌 2에 개시된 바와 같이, 나노홀 어레이를 사용함으로써 특정 파장의 빛만을 투과시키는 기술이 개시되어 있기는 하다. 그러나 이를 광학 필터로서 사용하기에는 치명적인 단점이 있는데, 이를 구체적으로 설명하면 다음과 같다. 도 1은 입사광 방향에 대한 나노홀 어레이 배치 형태 및 나노홀 어레이 배치 각도에 따라 달라지는 파장(wavelength)-투과율(transmittance) 그래프를 나타낸 것이다. 도 1(A)에 도시된 바와 같이 입사광의 진행 경로 상에 나노홀 어레이를 배치하되, 입사광의 진행 방향 및 나노홀 어레이의 배치 방향 간 각도를 배치각(Δθ)이라 한다. 그런데 이 때 도 1(B)에서 보이는 바와 같이, 배치각(Δθ)이 0ㅀ일 때(도 1(B)의 실선 그래프) 투과율 피크(peak)가 나오는 파장이 2군데인 것으로 나타난다. 뿐만 아니라 배치각(Δθ)이 0ㅀ보다 약간 커지면, 0ㅀ일 때의 피크 파장 위치 양쪽으로 작은 피크 2개가 갈라져서 나타난다(도 1(B)의 실선 그래프에 가장 가까운 점선 그래프). 또한 배치각(Δθ)이 점점 커짐에 따라(도 1(B)의 점선 그래프들, 변화 경향이 화살표로 표시됨), 이렇게 갈라진 피크들은 점점 작아지면서 또한 점점 더 벌어지는 경향이 나타난다.
이와 같이 기존의 플라즈모닉 구조 중 하나인 나노홀 어레이의 경우, 특정 파장의 빛을 통과시키는 성질을 가지고는 있으나 그 특정 파장이 여러 개 나타난다는 치명적인 문제점이 있어, 멀티 스펙트럴 이미징을 위한 광학 필터로서 사용하기에는 어려움이 있다.

따라서, 본 발명은 상기한 바와 같은 종래 기술의 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 안출된 것으로, 본 발명의 목적은 나노홀 어레이 및 나노디스크 어레이의 상보적 결합에 의한 투과 스펙트럼 변조를 이용하는 각감응성 가변 광학 필터 및 그 제조 방법을 제공함에 있다. 보다 구체적으로는, 본 발명은 멀티 스펙트럴 이미징(multi spectral imaging)에 사용될 수 있도록 특정 파장의 빛을 투과시키도록 이루어지되, 투과시키고자 하는 파장을 용이하고 정확하게 조절할 수 있도록 하는 광학 필터 및 그 제조 방법을 제공함에 있다.
상기한 바와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위한 본 발명의 나노홀 어레이 및 나노디스크 어레이의 상보적 결합에 의한 투과 스펙트럼 변조를 이용하는 각감응성 가변 광학 필터(100)는, 플레이트 상에 복수 개의 나노홀(111a)이 분산 형성된 형태로 이루어지는 나노홀 어레이(111); 복수 개의 나노디스크(112a)가 각각 복수 개의 상기 나노홀(111a)에 상응하는 위치에 분산 배치되어, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)가 형성하는 평면과 평행하게 이격된 평면을 형성하도록 이루어지는 나노디스크 어레이(112); 를 포함하여 이루어져, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)가 상보적 결합된 플라즈모닉 구조(Complementary Plasmonic Structure)를 형성하도록 이루어질 수 있다.
이 때 상기 광학 필터(100)는, 입사광의 진행 경로 상에 배치되어 특이 광 투과(Extraordinary Optical Transmission, EOT) 현상에 의해 선택적인 파장 대역의 빛을 투과시키되, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)가 상보적 결합된 플라즈모닉 구조에 의하여, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)의 파장에 따른 투과율 그래프에서 나타나는 1차 피크 및 고차 피크 중 고차 피크가 억제되어, 1차 피크에 해당하는 단일 파장 대역의 빛을 투과시키도록 이루어질 수 있다.
또한 상기 광학 필터(100)는, 입사광의 진행 방향 및 상기 광학 필터(100)의 배치 방향 간 각도를 배치각(Δθ)이라 할 때, 배치각(Δθ)이 조절됨에 따라 상기 광학 필터(100)가 투과시키는 빛의 파장 대역이 조절되도록 이루어질 수 있다.
또한 상기 광학 필터(100)는, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)의 하부에 배치되어 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)를 지지하는 플레이트 형태로 형성되는 기저부(121) 및 상기 기저부(121)로부터 상기 나노홀(111a)을 관통하여 돌출 형성되어 상기 나노디스크(112a)를 지지하는 복수 개의 기둥부(122)를 포함하여 이루어지는 기판(120); 을 더 포함하여 이루어질 수 있다.
이 때 상기 기판(120)은, 투명 재질로 이루어질 수 있다. 또한 상기 기판(120)은, 유전체 재질로 이루어질 수 있다. 또한 상기 기판(120)은, 유연 재질로 이루어질 수 있다.
한편 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)는, 금속 재질로 이루어질 수 있다. 또한 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)는, 서로 동일한 재질로 이루어질 수 있다.
또한 상기 광학 필터(100)는, 서로 상응하는 위치에 배치되는 상기 나노홀(111a) 및 상기 나노디스크(112a)의 직경(D)이 서로 동일하게 형성되도록 이루어질 수 있다.
또한 상기 광학 필터(100)는, 서로 상응하는 위치에 배치되는 상기 나노홀(111a) 및 상기 나노디스크(112a)의 두께(Th)가 서로 동일하게 형성되도록 이루어질 수 있다.
또한 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)는, 각각 상기 나노홀(111a) 또는 상기 나노디스크(112a)가 사각 격자(square lattice) 형태, 삼각 격자(triangular lattice) 형태, 육각 격자(hexagonal lattice), 나선(spiral) 형태, 방사상(radial) 형태 중 선택되는 적어도 하나의 형태로 분산 배치된 형태로 이루어질 수 있다. 또한 상기 광학 필터(100)는, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 상에서의 상기 나노홀(111a) 배치 형태 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112) 상에서의 상기 나노디스크(112a) 배치 형태가 서로 동일하게 형성되도록 이루어질 수 있다.
또한 상기 광학 필터(100)는, 입사광의 진행 경로 상에 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)만 배치되어 있을 때를 NH조건이라 하고, 입사광의 진행 경로 상에 상기 광학 필터(100)가 배치되어 있을 때를 CPS조건이라 하며, NH조건에서의 고차 피크의 크기를 t라 하고, NH조건에서의 고차 피크 및 CPS조건에서의 고차 피크의 크기 차이를 Δt라 하고, Δt/t를 감쇄도(Degree Of Attenuation)라 정의할 때, 감쇄도가 미리 결정된 기준 내지 1 범위 내에 해당하도록 상기 나노홀(111a) 또는 상기 나노디스크(112a)의 직경(D) 및 두께(Th)가 결정되도록 이루어질 수 있다.

이 때 상기 액추에이터(200)는, 고정 지지부를 형성하는 프레임(210); 일단이 상기 프레임(210)에 연결되고 타단이 상기 광학 필터(100)에 연결되어, 인가되는 전기 신호에 따라 굽힘 정도가 조절되도록 이루어지는 바이모프(220); 를 포함하여 이루어질 수 있다.
또한 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치(500)는, 상기 광학 필터(100) 및 상기 액추에이터(200)로 이루어지는 유닛을 단일 개 포함하여 이루어지거나, 또는 복수 개의 상기 유닛이 어레이를 형성하여 이루어질 수 있다. 이 때 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치(500)는, 복수 개의 상기 유닛이 어레이를 형성하여 이루어지는 경우, 각각의 상기 유닛에서의 배치각(Δθ)의 조절이 서로 연계해서 이루어지거나 또는 서로 독립적으로 이루어질 수 있다.
또한 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치(500)는, 이미지 센서 또는 디스플레이 장치로 사용될 수 있다.
본 발명에 의하면, 나노홀 어레이 및 나노디스크 어레이의 상보적 결합으로 이루어지는 새로운 플라즈모닉 구조를 통하여, 특정한 단일 파장 대역의 빛만을 선택적으로 아주 잘 투과시켜 낼 수 있다는 큰 효과가 있다. 종래에도 나노홀 어레이를 이용한 특이 광 투과 현상이 알려져 있었으나, 나노홀 어레이의 경우 투과시키는 특정 파장 대역이 단일 개가 아니라 여러 개 나타난다는 점이 잘 알려져 있으며, 이에 따라 단순한 나노홀 어레이로만 된 종래의 플라즈모닉 구조만으로는 특정 파장 대역의 빛만을 선택적으로 투과시키는 광학 필터로서의 활용이 어렵다는 한계가 있었다. 그러나 본 발명의 나노홀 어레이 및 나노디스크 어레이로 이루어지는 플라즈모닉 구조는, 특정한 단일 파장 대역의 빛만을 정확하게 투과시켜 내는 우수한 특성이 있으며, 이에 따라 종래의 플라즈모닉 구조에 비해 광학 필터로서의 활용성이 비약적으로 향상된다는 큰 효과가 있다.
뿐만 아니라 본 발명에 따르면, 필터 각도를 변화시킴에 따라 투과시키는 파장 대역이 변화함으로써, 투과시키고자 하는 파장 대역을 사용자가 원하는 대로 용이하게 조절할 수 있다는 큰 효과가 있다. 더불어 본 발명의 광학 필터는 그 구조상 각감응성이 뛰어나기 때문에, 투과시키고자 하는 파장 대역을 변화시키고자 할 때 조절되어야 하는 필터 각도 크기가 작다는 장점이 있다. 즉 필터의 움직임이 작아도 되기 때문에 필터 각도를 바꾸기 위한 메카니즘이 소형화될 수 있는 등, 궁극적으로는 필터 각도를 조절하는데 드는 에너지를 크게 절약할 수 있는 효과를 얻을 수 있는 것이다.
더불어 본 발명의 광학 필터는, 상술한 바와 같은 여러 장점들에 의하여 파장을 선택적으로 투과시키는 메커니즘 자체를 종래에 비해 비약적으로 초소형화시킬 수 있다는 큰 효과가 있다. 즉 본 발명에 따르면 초극박(ultra-thin) 스펙트럴 필터를 실현할 수 있는 것이다. 이에 따라 본 발명의 광학 필터를 멀티 스펙트럴 이미징 장치에 적용할 경우 장치 부피 및 중량을 크게 저감하고 휴대성 및 편의성을 향상시키는 등의 효과를 얻을 수 있음은 물론이다.

도 2는 본 발명의 나노홀 어레이 및 나노디스크 어레이의 상보적 결합 구조를 가지는 광학 필터를 도시한 것이다. 도 2(A)에 도시된 바와 같이, 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)는 기본적으로, 각각 평면 형태로 이루어지는 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 나노디스크 어레이(112)가 서로 평행하게 이격 배치되어 있는 형태로 이루어진다. 또한 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)는, 도 2(B)에 도시된 바와 같이 기판(120)을 더 포함하여 이루어질 수도 있다. 각부에 대하여 보다 상세히 설명하면 다음과 같다.
상기 나노홀 어레이(111)는, 플레이트 상에 복수 개의 나노홀(111a)이 분산 형성된 형태로 이루어진다. 그 명칭에서 알 수 있듯이 상기 나노홀(111a)은 그 직경이 수십~수백 nm 정도의 사이즈를 가진다. 또한 앞서 설명했던 바와 같이, 입사광의 진행 경로 상에 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)를 배치하면, 선택적인 파장 대역의 빛만이 투과되는 특이 광 투과(EOT) 현상이 일어난다는 것이 잘 알려져 있다. 이러한 특이 광 투과 현상을 발생시키는 근본적인 원리는 국소 표면 플라즈몬 공명 현상으로, 이처럼 국소 표면 플라즈몬 공명 현상을 일으키는 구조를 플라즈모닉 구조(Plasmonic Structure)라고 한다. 즉 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)도 플라즈모닉 구조의 한 종류라고 할 수 있다.
상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)는, 복수 개의 나노디스크(112a)가 각각 복수 개의 상기 나노홀(111a)에 상응하는 위치에 분산 배치되어, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)가 형성하는 평면과 평행하게 이격된 평면을 형성하는 형태로 이루어진다. 상술한 바와 같이 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)는 표면 플라즈몬 공명 현상을 발생시키는 플라즈모닉 구조의 한 종류이며, 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)도 플라즈모닉 구조의 다른 한 종류이다. 이후 보다 상세히 설명되겠지만, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112) 둘 다 플라즈모닉 구조이기는 하나 서로 다른 결과를 발생시키는데, 이들의 조합에 의하여 본 발명에서 필요한 선택적인 파장 대역의 빛을 투과시키는 특성을 더욱 우수하게 만든다. 즉 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)는, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)가 상보적 결합된 플라즈모닉 구조(Complementary Plasmonic Structure)를 형성하도록 이루어지는 것이다.
부연하자면, 표면 플라즈몬(surface plasmon)은 TM 편광으로 입사하는 광파에 의해서 유전체와 금속의 경계면을 따라 존재하는 광자와 금속 표면의 고밀도 전하 분포에 의해 일어나는 상호 작용에 의해, 금속 표면에 형성되는 근접장을 말하는 것이며, 특히 금속 나노 구조물 주변에서 일어나는 표면 플라즈몬 현상을 국소 표면 플라즈몬 현상이라고 한다. 즉 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)는 이러한 국소 표면 플라즈몬 현상을 원활하게 유발하기 위해서 금속 재질로 이루어지는 것이 바람직하며, 구체적으로는 은, 금 등이 사용될 수 있다. 더불어 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)는, 물론 서로 다른 재질로 이루어지도록 할 수도 있으나, 제조나 결과 분석의 용이성, 특성의 조절 편의성 등을 향상하도록, 서로 동일한 재질로 이루어지는 것이 바람직하다.
본 발명의 광학 필터(100)의 선택적인 빛 투과 원리에 대하여 구체적으로 설명하면 다음과 같다. 도 3은 입사광 방향에 대한 본 발명의 광학 필터 배치 형태 및 나노홀 어레이 / 나노디스크 어레이 / 본 발명의 광학 필터 각각의 파장-투과율 그래프이다. 도 3을 기준으로, 입사광은 하→상 방향으로 진행하며, 따라서 입사광은 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)를 먼저 통과하고, 그 다음에 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)를 통과하게 된다. 도 3 우측에 표시되어 있는 파장-투과율 그래프들 중 최하단 그래프가 입사광(Input Light) 그래프로서, 아직 아무 구조물도 통과하지 않았기 때문에 모든 파장 대역의 빛이 고르게 혼합되어 있는 상태이다. 다음으로 NH로 표시된 그래프가 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)의 파장-투과율 그래프로서, 앞서 도 1을 통해 설명했던 바와 같이, 특이 광 투과 현상에 의해 선택적인 파장 대역의 빛만을 투과시키기는 하되, 그렇게 투과시키는 파장 대역 피크 값이 여러 개 나타나는 것을 알 수 있다. 한편 ND로 표시된 그래프가 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)의 파장-투과율 그래프로서, 선택적인 파장 대역의 빛을 차단하는 특성이 나타나는 것을 보여 주고 있다.
도 3의 NH 그래프 및 ND 그래프를 비교하여 볼 때, NH 그래프에서는 피크 값이 여러 개 나타나는 반면, ND 그래프에서는 큰 골이 나타나는 것을 알 수 있다. 이 때, 상기 나노홀(111a) 및 상기 나노디스크(112a)의 직경, 두께, 배치 형태 등에 따라 파장-투과율 그래프의 형태(즉 피크, 골 위치나 크기 등)가 달라지며, 이를 조절함으로써 ND 그래프에서 나타나는 골 부분이 NH 그래프에서 나타나는 피크들 중 일부와 겹치게 할 수 있다. 도 3의 예시에서는, NH 그래프에 나타나는 2개의 피크 중 좌측 피크와 ND 그래프에 나타나는 골이 겹치고 있다. 따라서 도 3에서의 NH 그래프 및 ND 그래프를 합치면 좌측 피크는 골과 합쳐져서 감쇄되고 우측 피크는 그대로 남게 되어, 결과적으로 도 3 우측에 표시되어 있는 파장-투과율 그래프들 중 최상단 그래프, 즉 CPS(Complementary Plasmonic Structure) 그래프와 같은 형태로 나타나게 된다.
요약하자면 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)는, 이와 같이 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)가 상보적 결합된 플라즈모닉 구조에 의하여, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)의 파장에 따른 투과율 그래프에서 나타나는 1차 피크 및 고차 피크 중 고차 피크가 억제되게 함으로써, 궁극적으로 1차 피크에 해당하는 단일 파장 대역의 빛을 투과시키도록 이루어진다. 앞서 설명한 바와 같이, 단지 나노홀 어레이만 있을 경우에는 여러 파장 대역의 빛을 투과시키기 때문에 광학 필터로서 사용하기에 어려움이 있었으나, 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)는 이처럼 단일 파장 대역의 빛만을 투과시키도록 이루어지기 때문에, 원하는 파장만을 선택적으로 투과시키고자 할 때 최상의 효과를 얻을 수 있다.
부가적으로, 상술한 바와 같이 상기 나노홀(111a) 및 상기 나노디스크(112a)의 직경, 두께, 배치 형태 등에 따라 파장-투과율 그래프의 형태(즉 피크, 골 위치나 크기 등)가 달라지기 때문에, 상기 나노홀(111a) 및 상기 나노디스크(112a)의 직경, 두께, 배치 형태 등이 서로 완전히 독립적으로 다르게 이루어져도 물론 무방하다. 그러나 제조나 결과 분석의 용이성, 특성의 조절 편의성 등을 향상하도록, 서로 상응하는 위치에 배치되는 상기 나노홀(111a) 및 상기 나노디스크(112a)의 직경(D)이나 두께(Th)가 서로 동일하게 형성되는 것이 바람직하다. 또한 마찬가지 이유로, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 상에서의 상기 나노홀(111a) 배치 형태 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112) 상에서의 상기 나노디스크(112a) 배치 형태가 서로 동일하게 형성되는 것이 바람직하다.
상술한 바와 같이 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)는 단일 파장 대역의 빛만을 선택적으로 투과시킬 뿐만 아니라, 나노홀 어레이를 단독으로 사용하는 경우와 마찬가지로, 입사광의 진행 방향 및 상기 광학 필터(100)의 배치 방향 간 각도를 배치각(Δθ)이라 할 때, 배치각(Δθ)이 조절됨에 따라 상기 광학 필터(100)가 투과시키는 빛의 파장 대역이 조절된다. 나노홀 어레이를 단독으로 사용하는 경우에는, 도 1에 도시된 바와 같이 배치각(Δθ) 변화에 따라 피크가 분산(split)되어 고차 피크 개수가 더 많아짐으로써 필터로서의 성능을 더욱 저하시키는 큰 문제가 있었다. 그러나 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)의 경우, 나노홀 어레이 및 나노디스크 어레이의 상보적 구조에 의하여 단일 피크만이 형성(즉 단일 파장 대역의 빛만이 투과)되는 우수한 특성을 가지는 바 나노홀 어레이만을 사용하는 경우의 문제점은 원천적으로 제거된다. 또한 이처럼 배치각(Δθ)을 조절시킴으로써 투과시키고자 하는 빛의 파장 대역을 마음대로 조절할 수 있으므로, 광학 필터로서의 활용성이 비약적으로 향상된다.
본 발명의 광학 필터(100)의 구조 및 그 제작 방법에 대하여 좀더 설명하자면 다음과 같다. 상술한 바와 같이 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)는, 가장 기본적으로는 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)가 평행 이격된 상태로 형성되어 있기만 하면 된다. 그런데 실제로 이러한 구조를 용이하게 제작하고 또한 안정적으로 유지되게 하기 위해서는, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)를 지지하는 기판(120)이 더 구비되는 것이 바람직하다.
상기 기판(120)은, 도 2(B)에 도시되어 있는 바와 같이, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)의 하부에 배치되어 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)를 지지하는 플레이트 형태로 형성되는 기저부(121) 및 상기 기저부(121)로부터 상기 나노홀(111a)을 관통하여 돌출 형성되어 상기 나노디스크(112a)를 지지하는 복수 개의 기둥부(122)를 포함하여 이루어질 수 있다. 물론 빛을 투과시키는 데 불필요한 영향을 끼치지 않도록, 상기 기판(120)은 투명 재질로 이루어져야 하며, 또한 금속 재질로 된 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)와 연계하여 국소 플라즈몬 공명 현상을 원활하게 발생시키도록 유전체 재질로 이루어지는 것이 바람직하다. 이처럼 투명한 유전체 재질의 한 예시로서 유리가 있으며, 유리는 일반적으로 반도체 등 다양한 집적회로의 기판으로 널리 사용되고 있는 재질인 바 본 발명의 상기 기판(120)으로 사용되기에도 적합하다. 한편 상기 기판(120)은 유연 재질로 이루어짐으로써 유연성(flexible)을 더 가지도록 이루어질 수도 있다. 유리는 강성을 가지는 재질로서 유연성이 없지만, 이와 같이 투명하고 유전체이며 유연성까지 가지며 집적회로의 기판으로 널리 사용되고 있는 다른 재질로서 PDMS(Polydimethylsiloxane)가 있다. 즉 상기 기판(120)을 PDMS로 할 경우 상기 광학 필터(100)가 유연성까지 가지도록 할 수 있다. 물론 여기서 유리, PDMS를 언급한 것은 예시적인 것일 뿐으로 이로써 본 발명이 한정되는 것은 아니며, 상기 기판(120)의 재질은 투명도가 높고 유전체인 것이라면 다른 어떤 재질이 채용되어도 무방하다.
이러한 상기 기판(120)의 형태 및 상기 기판(120), 상기 나노홀 어레이(111), 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)의 결합 형태를 제조함에 있어, 다음과 같은 단계를 따를 수 있다. 도 4는 본 발명의 광학 필터의 제조 방법의 각 단계의 개략도로서, 도 4(A) 내지 도 4(D)로서 각 단계를 보다 상세히 설명하면 다음과 같다.
먼저 도 4(A)에 도시된 바와 같이, 유리 재질의 상기 기저부(121) 상에 HSQ(hydrogen silsesquioxane) 레지스트가 도포되게 한다. 유리는 안정적인 재질이기 때문에 일반적으로도 다양한 장치의 기판의 재질로서 널리 활용되고 있으며, 무엇보다도 투명도가 매우 높고 유전체이므로 본 발명의 상기 기판(120)으로 사용되기에 매우 적절하다. 한편 HSQ란 실리카 유리와 동일한 분자식(SiO2)을 가지되 분자 구조가 다른 물질로서, 유리가 고체 상태로 존재하는 환경에서 HSQ는 액체 상태로 존재한다는 것이 잘 알려져 있다.
다음으로 도 4(B)에 도시된 바와 같이, E-빔(E-beam) 패터닝에 의하여 미리 결정된 패턴 이외 영역의 HSQ 레지스트가 제거되게 한다. 이와 같이 일부가 제거된 후 상기 기저부(121) 상에 남아 있는 HSQ 레지스트는, 도 4(B)에 도시되어 있는 바와 같이 미세한 기둥(nanopillar)를 형성하게 된다.
다음으로 도 4(C)에 도시된 바와 같이, 가열(hard baking)에 의하여 HSQ 레지스트가 경화되어 상기 기둥부(122)가 형성되게 한다. 상술한 바와 같이 HSQ 레지스트는 유리와 동일한 분자식을 가지되 분자 구조만 다르게 형성되는 재질인데, HSQ 레지스트를 가열하면 분자 구조가 변경되어 유리가 된다는 성질이 역시 잘 알려져 있다. 즉 도 4(B)와 같이 HSQ 레지스트로 된 미세한 기둥들이 형성된 상태에서 가열을 하면, 이들이 결국 고체 상태인 유리 재질의 기둥부(122)가 되는 것이다. 결과적으로 도 4(A) 내지 도 4(C)의 단계를 거치면, 상기 기저부(121) 및 상기 기둥부(122)가 유리 재질로서 일체형으로 된 상기 기판(120)의 제조가 완료되게 된다.
마지막으로 도 4(D)에 도시된 바와 같이, 금속 증착에 의하여 상기 기저부(121) 및 상기 기둥부(122)의 상면에 금속 박막층이 형성되게 한다. PVD(Physical Vapor Deposition), CVD(Chemical Vapor Deposition) 공정과 같은 증착 공정은 일반적으로 대상물의 표면에 박막층을 형성하는데 널리 사용되는 공정이다. 이 때 ALD(Atomic Layor Deposition) 공정의 경우 증착시키고자 하는 원료 입자가 공간 상에서 매우 활발하게 분산되기 때문에 3차원 형태의 대상물 표면 전체에 박막층이 형성되는 반면, PVD, CVD 공정의 경우 증착시키고자 하는 원료 입자가 상대적으로 일정한 한 방향으로 진행되기 때문에, 대상물 표면 중 원료 입자가 공급되어 오는 방향에 대면한 쪽에 박막층이 형성된다는 점이 잘 알려져 있다. 즉 PVD, CVD 공정과 같은 증착 공정을 사용하여 금속 입자를 상부에서 공급하면, 도 4(D)에 도시된 바와 같이 상기 기저부(121) 및 상기 기둥부(122)의 상면에 금속 박막층이 형성되고, 상기 기둥부(122)의 옆면 등에는 금속 박막층이 형성되지 않게 된다.
이 때 상기 기저부(121)의 상면에 형성된 금속 박막층은, 상기 기저부(121) 형상에 따라 플레이트 형태를 형성하되, 상기 기둥부(122)에 의하여 관통된 부분에는 금속 박막층이 형성되지 않으므로 이 부분이 상기 나노홀(111a)이 된다. 즉 상기 기저부(121)의 상면에 형성된 금속 박막층은 자연히 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)가 되는 것이다. 또한 상기 기둥부(122)의 상면에 형성된 금속 박막층은, 상기 기둥부(122) 상면의 형상과 동일한 형상이되 두께만 얇게 형성되므로 즉 상기 나노디스크(112a)가 되며, 또한 상기 기둥부(122)들이 모두 동일한 높이를 가지고 있으므로 당연히 서로 동일 평면 상에 형성되게 된다. 즉 상기 기둥부(122)의 상면에 형성된 금속 박막층은 자연히 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)가 되는 것이다. 이와 같이 본 발명의 제조 방법에 의하면, 한 번의 금속 증착으로 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)가 한 번에 자가정렬되어(self-aligned) 만들어지게 된다.
도 5는 이와 같은 본 발명의 광학 필터의 제조 단계의 실제 사진 예시를 도시하고 있다. 도 5 상측의 <Top view>라고 표시된 도면들에서 보이는 바와 같이, 상술한 바와 같은 방식을 통해 직경(D)이 150nm, 170nm, 190nm, 210nm인 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)를 매우 정확하고 정밀하게 제조할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 도 5 하측의 <Tilted view (52ㅀ)>라고 표시된 도면은 비스듬한 방향으로 본 것이다. 도 5 하측-좌측 도면은 금속 증착이 이루어지기 전 상태로서 즉 도 4(C)에 해당하는 상태인데, 도시된 바와 같이 상기 기저부(121) 및 상기 기둥부(122)가 매우 정확하고 정밀하게 잘 만들어질 수 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 도 5 하측-우측 도면은 금속 증착이 이루어진 후 상태로서 즉 도 4(D)에 해당하는 상태인데, 도시된 바와 같이 상기 기저부(121) 및 상기 기둥부(122)의 상면에만 금속 박막층이 매우 고르게 잘 형성되어, 결과적으로 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)가 원하는 대로 아주 잘 만들어질 수 있음을 확인할 수 있다.
도 4에 나타나는 바와 같은 단계로 이루어지는 제조 방법을 통해 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)를 제조하는 경우, 상기 광학 필터(100)는, 상기 기판(120)은 유리 재질로 되고, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)는 서로 동일한 금속 재질로 이루어지며, 서로 상응하는 위치에 배치되는 상기 나노홀(111a) 및 상기 나노디스크(112a)의 직경(D) 및 두께(Th)가 서로 동일하게 형성되는 형태로 만들어지게 된다. 앞서 설명한 바와 같이 상기 나노홀(111a) 및 상기 나노디스크(112a)의 직경, 두께, 배치 형태, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)의 재질 등에 따라 파장-투과율 그래프의 형태(즉 피크, 골 위치나 크기 등)가 달라지는 바, 이들 모두가 서로 독립적으로 다르게 이루어지게 하여도 무방하며, 따라서 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)의 제조 방법이 상술한 방법으로 한정되는 것은 아니다.
도 4에 개시된 제조 방법에 따르면 상기 기판(120)이 유리 재질로 이루어지게 되겠으나, 물론 이로써 본 발명이 한정되는 것은 아니다. 앞서도 간략히 언급한 바와 같이, 유리는 투명한 유전체로서 상기 기판(120)으로 사용되기에 매우 적합하기는 하지만, 상기 광학 필터(100)가 유연성을 가지게 하고 싶을 경우에는 유리를 상기 기판(120)의 재질로 사용하는 것이 적합하지 않다. 이러한 경우에는 상기 기판(120)으로서 투명한 유전체이자 유연성도 가지는 재질인 PDMS 등과 같은 재질을 사용할 수 있는데, 이 경우에는 상술한 제조 방법(HSQ 레지스트를 사용하는 제조 방법)을 사용할 수 없음은 당연하다.
이러한 경우에, 유리 기저부 준비 - HSQ 레지스트 도포 및 패터닝 - HSQ 레지스트 경화 등의 단계를 거쳐 상기 기판(120)이 형성되도록 하는 대신, 미리 결정된 패턴 형태로서 나노임프린팅(nanoimprinting) 공정에 의해 상기 기판(120)이 형성되도록 할 수 있다. 나노임프린팅이란, 나노스케일의 구조를 갖는 스탬프를 제작한 다음, 이 스탬프를 고분자 박막에 각인하여 나노스케일의 구조물을 만드는 방법을 말한다. 나노임프린팅 공정에서도 스탬프를 제작하는 단계에서 E-빔 리소그래피가 사용되기는 하지만, 일단 한 번 스탬프를 제작하고 나면 그 스탬프를 사용하여 생산이 진행되므로, E-빔 리소그래피에 비해 상대적으로 단시간에 대량 생산이 가능하다는 장점이 있다. 또한 상술한 바와 같이 스탬프를 고분자 박막에 각인하는 방식을 사용하기 때문에, 앞서 언급한 PDMS 등과 같은 재질을 사용하는 경우에 적용하기에 적합하기도 하다. 뿐만 아니라 나노임프린팅 공정을 사용할 경우 보다 저비용으로 대면적의 기판 제작에 유리하여, 실제 생산 공정에 적용하기에 매우 적합하다는 장점 또한 있다.
상술한 바와 같이 나노임프린팅 공정을 이용하여 상기 기판(120)의 제작이 이루어진 후에는, 도 4의 제작 방법에서와 마찬가지로, 금속 증착에 의하여 상기 기저부(121) 및 상기 기둥부(122)의 상면에 금속 박막층이 형성됨으로써, 상기 기저부(121) 상면에 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)가 형성되고, 상기 기둥부(122) 상면에 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)가 형성되어, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)가 자가정렬되도록 하여, 상기 광학 필터(100)의 제작이 완료되게 된다.
이하에서는 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)의 특성 및 효과를 다양한 실험 결과들을 사용하여 보다 상세하게 설명한다.
도 6은 나노홀 어레이 및 본 발명의 광학 필터의 파장-투과율 그래프를 비교한 것이다. 앞서도 설명한 바와 같이, 나노홀 어레이만을 사용하는 경우 파장-투과율 그래프에서 피크가 여러 군데 나타나고, 본 발명의 광학 필터를 사용하는 경우 나노홀 어레이에서 나타나는 여러 피크들 중 고차 피크들이 억제됨으로써 결과적으로 단일 피크만 나타나게 된다. 이 때, 입사광의 진행 경로 상에 상기 나노홀 어레이(111)만 배치되어 있을 때를 NH조건이라 하고, 입사광의 진행 경로 상에 상기 광학 필터(100)가 배치되어 있을 때를 CPS조건이라 한다. 이 때, 도 6에 보이는 바와 같이 NH조건에서의 고차 피크의 크기를 t라 하고, NH조건에서의 고차 피크 및 CPS조건에서의 고차 피크의 크기 차이를 Δt라 할 때, 감쇄도(Degree Of Attenuation)를 다음과 같이 정의한다.
DOA = Δt/t
감쇄도가 0이라는 것은 고차 피크가 전혀 제거되지 못했다는 의미이며, 감쇄도가 1이라는 것은 고차 피크가 완전히 제거되었다는 의미이다. 즉 감쇄도가 클수록 고차 피크의 제거가 잘 이루어져서 궁극적으로 보다 우수하게 단일 피크만을 남길 수 있게 된다.
도 7은 나노홀 및 나노디스크 직경-두께에 따른 DOA 분포도를 도시한 것이다. 앞서 설명한 바와 같이 상기 나노홀(111a) 및 상기 나노디스크(112a)의 직경, 두께, 배치 형태, 상기 나노홀 어레이(111) 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이(112)의 재질 등에 따라 파장-투과율 그래프의 형태(즉 피크, 골 위치나 크기 등)가 달라진다. 형상적인 관점에서 볼 때 상기 나노홀(111a) 및 상기 나노디스크(112a)에서 나올 수 있는 설계변수들은 직경, 두께, 이격 거리(즉 상기 기둥부(122)의 높이), 배치 간격 등이 있을 수 있다. 본 출원인은 여러 실험을 통해, 이 중 직경 및 두께를 조절하는 것이 감쇄도에 주로 영향을 끼치며, 이격 거리나 배치 간격을 조절하는 것은 상대적으로 감쇄도에 영향을 적게 준다는 사실을 알아내었다. 즉, 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)를 제조함에 있어서, 감쇄도가 높은(즉 파장 선택의 효율이 뛰어난) 광학 필터를 제조하고자 할 때, 도 7과 같이 직경-두께에 따른 감쇄도 분포도를 활용함으로써 최적 설계를 이룰 수 있다. 구체적으로는, 감쇄도가 미리 결정된 기준 내지 1 범위 내에 해당하도록 상기 나노홀(111a) 또는 상기 나노디스크(112a)의 직경(D) 및 두께(Th)가 결정되게 할 수 있다. 여기에서 '미리 결정된 기준'은, 감쇄도를 높이는 것을 최고 목적으로 하는 경우 상기 기준을 0.7 정도로 높게 잡을 수도 있고, 다소 감쇄도가 높지 않아도 제작 자유도를 확보하고자 하는 경우 상기 기준을 0.5 정도로 적당하게 잡을 수도 있는 등, 사용자가 원하는 목적이나 성능 등에 따라 적절히 결정될 수 있다.
도 8은 나노홀 및 나노디스크 직경에 따른 파장-투과율 그래프를, 도 9는 나노홀 및 나노디스크 두께에 따른 파장-투과율 그래프를 각각 나타내고 있다. 보다 구체적으로는, 도 8 및 도 9의 파장-투과율 그래프는 감쇄하고자 하는 파장 대역(즉 예를 들면 도 6에서 좌측 피크에 해당하는 파장 대역)에서의 파장-투과율 그래프를 나타낸 것이다. 즉 도 8 및 도 9에서 피크 값이 작을수록 감쇄도가 크다는 기술적 의미를 갖게 된다. 도 8은 도 7의 감쇄도 분포도에서 두께(Th)를 고정한 상태에서 직경(D)을 변화시켜 가면서 파장-투과율을 측정한 것으로, 함께 도시한 감쇄도 분포도에서 어두운 부분에 해당하는 직경, 즉 직경이 150nm, 170nm일 때는 피크가 높게 나타나는 것(즉 별로 감쇄가 일어나지 않아 감쇄도가 작음)을 알 수 있다. 반면 감쇄도 분포도에서 밝은 부분에 해당하는 직경, 즉 직경이 190nm, 210nm일 때는 피크가 낮게 나타나는데, 즉 이 때에는 감쇄가 매우 잘 일어나고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 도 9는 도 8과는 반대로 도 7의 감쇄도 분포도에서 직경(D)을 고정한 상태에서 두께(Th)를 변화시켜 가면서 파장-투과율을 측정한 것으로, 역시 감쇄도 분포도에서 어두운 부분에 해당하는 두께 30nm, 40nm일 때에는 피크가 높게 나타나고(감쇄도가 작고), 밝은 부분에 해당하는 두께 50nm, 60nm일 때에는 피크가 낮게 나타난다(감쇄도가 크다).
도 10은 사각 격자 배치 형태인 경우의 배치각에 따른 파장-투과율 그래프를 도시하고 있다. 앞서 설명한 바와 같이, 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)는 배치각(Δθ)이 조절됨에 따라 상기 광학 필터(100)가 투과시키는 빛의 파장 대역이 조절되는 특성을 가진다. 도 10의 예시에서는, 배치각(Δθ)이 0ㅀ에서 30ㅀ까지 변화함에 따라 투과시키는 빛의 파장 대역이 약 700nm에서 850nm 정도까지 변화하는 양상을 보이고 있다.
앞서도 설명한 바와 같이, 투과시키는 빛의 파장 대역은 나노홀/나노디스크의 직경, 두께, 재질 등으로 조절이 가능한데, 또 한 가지 중요한 형상 설계 변수로서 나노홀/나노디스크의 배치 형태를 들 수 있다. 앞서 도 2 내지 도 5에서는, 상기 나노홀(111a) 또는 상기 나노디스크(112a)가 사각 격자(square lattice) 형태로 분산 배치된 형태로 이루어지는 예시가 나타나 있다. 이와 같이 나노홀/나노디스크의 배치 형태가 사각 격자 형태인 경우, 배치각 변화 정도에 따른 투과 파장 변화 정도의 범위가 상대적으로 넓게 나타난다. 쉽게 말해 배치각을 조금만 변화시켜도 투과 파장을 많이 변화시킬 수 있다는 것으로서, 이처럼 나노홀/나노디스크의 배치 형태를 사각 격자 형태로 형성할 경우 각감응성(angular-sensitive)이 높다는 장점을 가진다. 이처럼 각감응성이 높을 경우, 투과시키고자 하는 파장 대역을 변화시키고자 할 때 조절되어야 하는 필터 각도 크기가 작기 때문에, 필터 각도 조절용 메카니즘의 소형화, 필터 각도 조절에 드는 동력 절감 등의 다양한 장점을 얻을 수 있다.
한편, 나노홀/나노디스크의 배치 형태가 사각 격자 형태로 국한되는 것은 아니며, 서로 엇갈리게 배치되는 형태, 즉 삼각 격자(triangular lattice) 또는 육각 격자(hexagonal lattice) 형태로 배치되도록 할 수도 있다. 도 11은 육각 격자 배치 형태인 경우의 배치각에 따른 파장-투과율 그래프인데, 이 경우 각감응성이 나빠지기 때문에 상술한 바와 같이 소형화, 동력 절감 등의 장점들을 상대적으로 얻기 어려운 단점은 있으나, 각도 변화에 따른 투과 파장 변화가 상대적으로 적기 때문에 안정성 측면에서 유리할 수도 있다. 또한 도 11에 보이는 바와 같이 배치각이 증가할수록 피크 값이 커지는 특성도 보이고 있어, 새롭게 응용할 여지 또한 있다.
나노홀/나노디스크의 배치 형태가 육각 격자 배치 형태인 경우에 대해서 부연하여 설명하자면 다음과 같다. 도 12는 육각 격자 배치 형태인 경우의 파장-편광 그래프를 도시하고 있다. 도 12의 상측 도면에서와 같이 나노홀/나노디스크의 배치 형태를 화살표로 나타내었을 때 이 화살표의 방향이 바로 편광(polarization)이 되는데, 도 12의 상측 도면에는 예시적으로 편광이 60ㅀ인 상태를 도시하고 있다. 이 편광이 달라짐에 따라, 피크 값이 조율되는 범위가 달라짐을 나타낸 것이 바로 도 12의 하측 도면이다. 구체적으로 설명하자면, 도 12의 하측 도면에서, x축은 파장 / y축은 편광 각도를 나타내고 있으며, 입사광 및 광학 필터 간의 각도 즉 배치각이 0ㅀ일 때를 원으로, 배치각이 30ㅀ일 때를 마름모로 표시하였다. 도 12의 하측 도면으로부터, 배치각이 0~30ㅀ로 변화할 때, 편광이 0ㅀ 또는 60ㅀ(도 12의 상측 도면과 같은 배치 형태)일 때에는 피크 값이 조율되는 범위가 약 750~790nm 범위가 되고, 편광이 30ㅀ일 때에는 피크 값이 조율되는 범위가 약 750~830nm 범위가 됨을 확인할 수 있다. 즉, 육각 격자 형태라 할지라도 편광을 변화시킴에 따라 피크 값이 조율되는 범위(즉 각도 변화에 따른 투과 파장 변화 범위)를 조절할 수 있다.
이처럼 나노홀/나노디스크의 배치 형태가 달라짐에 따라 각감응성이 좋아질 수도 있고, 배치각 증가에 따라 피크 값이 커질 수도 있고, 피크 값의 조율 범위를 변화시킬 수 있는 등 다양한 특성들이 있으며, 제작하고자 하는 광학 필터에 이러한 특성들을 어떻게 반영하느냐에 따라 유리한 배치 형태가 달라질 수 있다. 즉, 본 발명에서 나노홀/나노디스크의 배치 형태는, 상술한 사각 격자 형태, 삼각 격자 형태, 육각 격자 형태 뿐만 아니라, 나선(spiral) 형태, 방사상(radial) 형태 등 다양한 형태가 될 수 있으며, 또한 이러한 배치 형태들이 혼합된 형태로 이루어질 수도 있는 등, 다양한 변경 실시가 가능하다.
한편, 앞서의 도면들 상에 나타난 예시에서, 본 발명의 광학 필터에 의하여 투과되는 파장 대역의 변화 범위가 약 750~800nm 범위, 즉 대체로 빨간색 가시광선~근적외선 범위 정도로 나타나는데, 물론 이로써 본 발명이 한정되는 것은 전혀 아니다. 앞서 설명한 바와 같이 본 발명의 광학 필터는, 나노홀 어레이/나노디스크 어레이를 형성하는 금속의 재질이나, 나노홀/나노디스크 직경, 두께, 배치 형태 등에 따라 투과되는 파장 대역이 달라진다. 즉 재질이나 형상 등을 적절하게 설계함으로써 투과되는 파장 대역의 변화 범위를, 가시광선 대역, 가시광선 중 특정 대역, 적외선 대역, 자외선 대역, 그 외의 모든 전자기파 대역 등 얼마든지 원하는 대로 달리 설계할 수 있음은 물론이다.
상술한 바와 같이 본 발명의 광학 필터는, 특정한 단일 파장 대역만을 선택적으로 투과시키는 특성이 매우 우수하며, 또한 배치각을 조절함으로써 투과시키고자 하는 파장 대역의 조절이 가능하여, 다양한 이미징 장치로 활용할 수 있다. 도 13은 이러한 본 발명의 광학 필터 이미징 장치의 실시예를 도시한 것이다. 도 13에 보이는 바와 같이, 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)를 포함하여 이루어지는 광학 필터 이미징 장치(500)는, 앞서 설명한 바와 같이 이루어지는 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)와, 상기 광학 필터(100)에 연결되어 상기 광학 필터(100)의 배치각(Δθ)을 조절하는 액추에이터(200)를 포함하여 이루어질 수 있다. 이 때 상기 액추에이터(200)는, 한 예시로서 도 13(A)에 도시되어 있는 바와 같이, 고정 지지부를 형성하는 프레임(210)과, 일단이 상기 프레임(210)에 연결되고 타단이 상기 광학 필터(100)에 연결되어, 인가되는 전기 신호에 따라 굽힘 정도가 조절되도록 이루어지는 바이모프(220)를 포함하여 이루어질 수 있다. 물론 이는 하나의 예시일 뿐으로, 미세한 각도 조절이 가능한 액추에이터라면 다른 어떤 형태의 액추에이터가 채용되어도 무방하다.
또한 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치(500)는, 도 13(A)에 도시된 바와 같이 상기 광학 필터(100) 및 상기 액추에이터(200)로 이루어지는 유닛을 단일 개 포함하여 이루어질 수도 있지만, 도 13(B)에 도시된 바와 같이 복수 개의 상기 유닛이 어레이를 형성하여 이루어질 수 있다. 이처럼 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치(500)가 복수 개의 상기 유닛이 어레이를 형성하여 이루어지는 경우, 각각의 상기 유닛에서의 배치각(Δθ)의 조절이 서로 연계해서 이루어지거나 또는 서로 독립적으로 이루어질 수 있다. 즉 각각의 상기 유닛에서의 배치각(Δθ)이 서로 동일하게 이루어질 수도 있고, 영역별로 다르게 이루어질 수도 있고, 행 또는 열 순번에 따라 순차적으로 또는 어떠한 관계식을 따라 조절될 수도 있는 등, 사용자가 원하는 대로 얼마든지 다르게 이루어질 수 있다.
한편 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치(500)는, 상술한 바와 같은 본 발명의 광학 필터(100)의 우수한 각감응성 가변 특성을 이용하여, 외부로부터 조사되어 오는 입사광에서 원하는 파장 대역의 빛만을 선택적으로 투과시키는 이미지 센서로 사용될 수 있음은 당연하다. 이 때 입사광 광원이 디스플레이 장치의 배경광원이고, 관찰자가 상기 광학 필터(100)를 투과해 나간 빛을 감지할 수 있도록 이루어지는 경우, 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치(500)는 디스플레이 장치로 사용될 수 있다. 도 14는 바로 이처럼 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치(500)가 디스플레이 장치로 사용되는 활용예를 도시하고 있다. 물론 이 경우에도 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치(500)는 복수 개의 상기 유닛을 포함할 수 있으며, 각각의 상기 유닛은 도 14에 도시된 바와 같이 서로 독립적으로 조절될 수 있다.
본 발명은 상기한 실시예에 한정되지 아니하며, 적용범위가 다양함은 물론이고, 청구범위에서 청구하는 본 발명의 요지를 벗어남이 없이 당해 본 발명이 속하는 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자라면 누구든지 다양한 변형 실시가 가능한 것은 물론이다.
본 발명의 광학 필터는, 상술한 바와 같은 여러 장점들에 의하여 파장을 선택적으로 투과시키는 메커니즘 자체를 종래에 비해 비약적으로 초소형화시킬 수 있다는 큰 효과가 있다. 즉 본 발명에 따르면 초극박(ultra-thin) 스펙트럴 필터를 실현할 수 있는 것이다. 이에 따라 본 발명의 광학 필터를 멀티 스펙트럴 이미징 장치에 적용할 경우 장치 부피 및 중량을 크게 저감하고 휴대성 및 편의성을 향상시키는 등의 효과를 얻을 수 있음은 물론이다.

Claims (21)

  1. 플레이트 상에 복수 개의 나노홀이 분산 형성된 형태로 이루어지는 나노홀 어레이;
    복수 개의 나노디스크가 각각 복수 개의 상기 나노홀에 상응하는 위치에 분산 배치되어, 상기 나노홀 어레이가 형성하는 평면과 평행하게 이격된 평면을 형성하도록 이루어지는 나노디스크 어레이;
    를 포함하여 이루어져,
    상기 나노홀 어레이 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이가 상보적 결합된 플라즈모닉 구조(Complementary Plasmonic Structure)를 형성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  2. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 광학 필터는,
    입사광의 진행 경로 상에 배치되어 특이 광 투과(Extraordinary Optical Transmission, EOT) 현상에 의해 선택적인 파장 대역의 빛을 투과시키되,
    상기 나노홀 어레이 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이가 상보적 결합된 플라즈모닉 구조에 의하여, 상기 나노홀 어레이의 파장에 따른 투과율 그래프에서 나타나는 1차 피크 및 고차 피크 중 고차 피크가 억제되어,
    1차 피크에 해당하는 단일 파장 대역의 빛을 투과시키도록 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  3. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 광학 필터는,
    입사광의 진행 방향 및 상기 광학 필터의 배치 방향 간 각도를 배치각이라 할 때,
    배치각이 조절됨에 따라 상기 광학 필터가 투과시키는 빛의 파장 대역이 조절되는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  4. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 광학 필터는,
    상기 나노홀 어레이의 하부에 배치되어 상기 나노홀 어레이를 지지하는 플레이트 형태로 형성되는 기저부 및
    상기 기저부로부터 상기 나노홀을 관통하여 돌출 형성되어 상기 나노디스크를 지지하는 복수 개의 기둥부
    를 포함하여 이루어지는 기판;
    을 더 포함하여 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  5. 제 4항에 있어서, 상기 기판은,
    투명 재질로 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  6. 제 4항에 있어서, 상기 기판은,
    유전체 재질로 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  7. 제 4항에 있어서, 상기 기판은,
    유연 재질로 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  8. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 나노홀 어레이 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이는,
    금속 재질로 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  9. 제 8항에 있어서, 상기 나노홀 어레이 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이는,
    서로 동일한 재질로 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  10. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 광학 필터는,
    서로 상응하는 위치에 배치되는 상기 나노홀 및 상기 나노디스크의 직경이 서로 동일하게 형성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  11. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 광학 필터는,
    서로 상응하는 위치에 배치되는 상기 나노홀 및 상기 나노디스크의 두께가 서로 동일하게 형성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  12. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 나노홀 어레이 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이는,
    각각 상기 나노홀 또는 상기 나노디스크가 사각 격자(square lattice) 형태, 삼각 격자(triangular lattice) 형태, 육각 격자(hexagonal lattice), 나선(spiral) 형태, 방사상(radial) 형태 중 선택되는 적어도 하나의 형태로 분산 배치된 형태로 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  13. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 광학 필터는,
    상기 나노홀 어레이 상에서의 상기 나노홀 배치 형태 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이 상에서의 상기 나노디스크 배치 형태가 서로 동일하게 형성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  14. 제 2항에 있어서, 상기 광학 필터는,
    입사광의 진행 경로 상에 상기 나노홀 어레이만 배치되어 있을 때를 NH조건이라 하고, 입사광의 진행 경로 상에 상기 광학 필터가 배치되어 있을 때를 CPS조건이라 하며,
    NH조건에서의 고차 피크의 크기를 t라 하고, NH조건에서의 고차 피크 및 CPS조건에서의 고차 피크의 크기 차이를 Δt라 하고, Δt/t를 감쇄도(Degree Of Attenuation)라 정의할 때,
    감쇄도가 미리 결정된 기준 내지 1 범위 내에 해당하도록 상기 나노홀 또는 상기 나노디스크의 직경 및 두께가 결정되는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터.
  15. 플레이트 상에 복수 개의 나노홀이 분산 형성된 형태로 이루어지는 나노홀 어레이; 복수 개의 나노디스크가 각각 복수 개의 상기 나노홀에 상응하는 위치에 분산 배치되어, 상기 나노홀 어레이가 형성하는 평면과 평행하게 이격된 평면을 형성하도록 이루어지는 나노디스크 어레이; 상기 나노홀 어레이의 하부에 배치되어 상기 나노홀 어레이를 지지하는 플레이트 형태로 형성되는 기저부 및 상기 기저부로부터 상기 나노홀을 관통하여 돌출 형성되어 상기 나노디스크를 지지하는 복수 개의 기둥부를 포함하여 이루어지는 기판; 을 포함하여 이루어져, 상기 나노홀 어레이 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이가 상보적 결합된 플라즈모닉 구조(Complementary Plasmonic Structure)를 형성하는 광학 필터를 제조하는 광학 필터의 제조 방법에 있어서,
    유리 재질의 상기 기저부 상에 HSQ(hydrogen silsesquioxane) 레지스트가 도포되는 단계;
    E-빔 패터닝에 의하여 미리 결정된 패턴 이외 영역의 HSQ 레지스트가 제거되는 단계;
    가열에 의하여 HSQ 레지스트가 경화되어 상기 기둥부가 형성되는 단계;
    금속 증착에 의하여 상기 기저부 및 상기 기둥부의 상면에 금속 박막층이 형성됨으로써, 상기 기저부 상면에 상기 나노홀 어레이가 형성되고, 상기 기둥부 상면에 상기 나노디스크 어레이가 형성되는 단계;
    를 포함하여 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터의 제조 방법.
  16. 플레이트 상에 복수 개의 나노홀이 분산 형성된 형태로 이루어지는 나노홀 어레이; 복수 개의 나노디스크가 각각 복수 개의 상기 나노홀에 상응하는 위치에 분산 배치되어, 상기 나노홀 어레이가 형성하는 평면과 평행하게 이격된 평면을 형성하도록 이루어지는 나노디스크 어레이; 상기 나노홀 어레이의 하부에 배치되어 상기 나노홀 어레이를 지지하는 플레이트 형태로 형성되는 기저부 및 상기 기저부로부터 상기 나노홀을 관통하여 돌출 형성되어 상기 나노디스크를 지지하는 복수 개의 기둥부를 포함하여 이루어지는 기판; 을 포함하여 이루어져, 상기 나노홀 어레이 및 상기 나노디스크 어레이가 상보적 결합된 플라즈모닉 구조(Complementary Plasmonic Structure)를 형성하는 광학 필터를 제조하는 광학 필터의 제조 방법에 있어서,
    미리 결정된 패턴 형태로서 나노임프린팅 공정에 의해 상기 기판이 형성되는 단계;
    금속 증착에 의하여 상기 기저부 및 상기 기둥부의 상면에 금속 박막층이 형성됨으로써, 상기 기저부 상면에 상기 나노홀 어레이가 형성되고, 상기 기둥부 상면에 상기 나노디스크 어레이가 형성되는 단계;
    를 포함하여 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터의 제조 방법.
  17. 제 1 내지 14항 중 선택되는 어느 한 항에 의한 광학 필터;
    입사광의 진행 방향 및 상기 광학 필터의 배치 방향 간 각도를 배치각이라 할 때, 상기 광학 필터에 연결되어 상기 광학 필터의 배치각을 조절하는 액추에이터;
    를 포함하여 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터 이미징 장치.
  18. 제 17항에 있어서, 상기 액추에이터는,
    고정 지지부를 형성하는 프레임;
    일단이 상기 프레임에 연결되고 타단이 상기 광학 필터에 연결되어, 인가되는 전기 신호에 따라 굽힘 정도가 조절되도록 이루어지는 바이모프;
    를 포함하여 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터 이미징 장치.
  19. 제 17항에 있어서, 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치는,
    상기 광학 필터 및 상기 액추에이터로 이루어지는 유닛을 단일 개 포함하여 이루어지거나, 또는
    복수 개의 상기 유닛이 어레이를 형성하여 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터 이미징 장치.
  20. 제 19항에 있어서, 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치는,
    복수 개의 상기 유닛이 어레이를 형성하여 이루어지는 경우,
    각각의 상기 유닛에서의 배치각의 조절이 서로 연계해서 이루어지거나 또는 서로 독립적으로 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터 이미징 장치.
  21. 제 17항에 있어서, 상기 광학 필터 이미징 장치는,
    이미지 센서 또는 디스플레이 장치로 사용되는 것을 특징으로 하는 광학 필터 이미징 장치.
