Definitions
- the invention relates to a single dose capsule for the preparation of an infused or percolated beverage, such as coffee or tea; or soluble, such as chocolate or milk, in a machine for the preparation of the beverage.
- the invention also relates to a system and a method for preparing a beverage by means of the capsule.
- capsules are known for the preparation of a beverage provided with tearing means which are configured to, after injecting through a self-service machine a pressurized fluid, such as hot water, into the capsule through its upper part, tear the lower part of the capsule upon reaching the inside of the capsule a predetermined pressure level.
- a pressurized fluid such as hot water
- a capsule of this type which comprises a cup-shaped body constituted by a watertight material that stores a dose of a product for the preparation of the beverage, in which a superior mouthpiece is distinguished, closed by a first watertight sheet welded to said body and prepared to be traversed by an injector element of a pressurized fluid intended to dissolve or infuse the dose of product for the preparation of the beverage, and a lower opening arranged at its base, provided for the departure of the prepared beverage.
- This capsule also comprises a second sealed sheet welded internally to the body, which separates the upper mouth and the lower mouth, leaving the dose of product stored in the body between the first and second sheet.
- the capsule is also provided with means for tearing the second sheet, arranged integral to the base of the body under said second sheet. In this way, the high pressure of the fluid in the capsule causes a thrust on said second sheet that travels by elasticity until it comes into contact with the tearing means, at which time the breakage of said second sheet occurs, allowing said Drink flow out.
- patent documents EP1472156 and EP1808382 also describe a capsule of this type, which comprises a closed chamber containing a dose of product and tearing opening means that allow the capsule to be opened at the time of use. and that allow said drink to flow out. The opening is achieved by the relative coupling of the opening means with a retaining sheet of the closed chamber. Similarly, said relative coupling is carried out under the effect of raising the fluid pressure in the chamber.
- these capsules have the disadvantage that they require the fluid to be injected under pressure, delaying the preparation of the beverage until the predetermined pressure level is achieved inside the capsule.
- Another drawback they present is that the capsule walls have to be sized to withstand the internal pressure, so it is necessary to use materials sufficiently rigid and thick enough, which increases the final cost of the capsule.
- the capsule for the preparation of a beverage in a machine of the present invention is one comprising a body of a single piece of watertight material comprising a cup and a base, the cup being adapted to store at least one dose of a product for the preparation of the beverage and provided with an upper mouth, closed by a first sealed sheet, glued or welded to the cup and prepared to be traversed by an injector element of a fluid for the preparation of the beverage, and the base being provided with a lower mouthpiece, provided for the exit of the prepared beverage; the capsule being provided in addition to a second watertight sheet glued or welded internally to the cup, above the base, and separating the upper mouth and the lower mouth, leaving the dose of product stored between the first and second sheets; and the base being provided with means for tearing the second sheet.
- the watertight materials must be interpreted as impervious to liquids, that is, the liquids cannot pass through it, specifically the water or liquid that is introduced into the capsule and the prepared beverage.
- the capsule is characterized in that the cup and the base are joined by a flexible portion, said flexible portion being able to bend by pushing the base in the direction of the second sheet, keeping the cup held, allowing the movement of the means from tearing to tearing or breaking the second sheet.
- the capsule is characterized in that the cup and the base are joined by a flexible portion, said flexible portion being able to bend by pushing the base in the direction of the second sheet, keeping the cup held, allowing the movement of the means from tearing to tearing or breaking the second sheet.
- the beverage preparation machine that exerts the necessary pressure on the capsule to open it before injecting water into it, to prevent the capsule from accidentally opening before use
- the cup and base are expected to be essentially rigid and only the flexible portion that joins them is flexible, it is also contemplated that part of the base or part of the cup or even the entire base or cup is flexible, so that the flexible portion would have no continuity solution.
- the flexible portion has a thickness less than the thickness of the adjacent ends of the cup and the base that joins, said flexible portion acting as a joint, allowing that when exerting pressure on the base in the direction of the second sheet, it can approach the second sheet and the tearing means break or tear said second sheet.
- the flexible portion may have combined sections of greater or lesser thickness, for example to achieve double or triple articulation.
- the entire flexible portion has a thickness less than the thickness of the ends of the cup and the base that joins, since it has been found that a single joint is sufficient to tear the second sheet of the capsule.
- the flexible portion has a minimum thickness of less than 50 micrometers, allowing its operation as a joint, especially when the flexible portion is made of polypropylene.
- the flexible portion surrounds the base, enclosing it so that it is sufficient to exert pressure at any point of the base to tear the second sheet.
- the second sheet is made of aluminum. This second sheet has a thickness greater than 10 micrometers and is adapted to withstand a pressure of up to 10 bar, that is, a pressure of up to 1 megapascal.
- the base is provided with at least one lower support shoulder, which allows the capsule to be raised when it is introduced into the housing of a machine for the preparation of beverage.
- the base In order for the pressure to be exerted on each lower projection to be correctly transmitted to the base, it is expected that the base be provided with at least three lower support projections, which determine a plane and allow the capsule to remain stable in the housing. So that the force exerted on each projection inferior to the base is correctly transmitted, in a variant of interest, three inferior support projections determine the vertices of an equilateral triangle.
- the base is provided with at least six lower support projections that form the vertices of a hexagon, or seen another way, these six lower support projections that form the vertices of a hexagon also form the vertices of two triangles. equilateral, optimally distributing the force that will be exerted on these projections.
- the tearing means comprise at least one drilling or cutting projection of the second sheet
- these tearing means may be formed, for example made of plastic material by means of a mold, as part of the base, for example to be molded together with the capsule body, or they could be glued or welded later on the base, for example if the base is flexible and the tearing means, such as projections, are added after the body molding.
- At least one drilling or cutting projection is aligned with a lower supporting projection, so that by exerting force on each lower supporting projection that is aligned with a drilling or cutting projection, the displacement that each one of these lower projections due to the force exerted will be transmitted directly to the drilling or cutting projection that is aligned. In this way, the displacement to the drilling or cutting projections is transmitted more efficiently, even if the capsule is decompensated, for example, if lower projections have been broken or these are partly defective and the second one would be broken or cut. sheet although not all the base could move.
- the cup comprises an inner wall that surrounds and encloses the product dose, said inner wall being closed superiorly by a third permeable sheet, such as filter paper, thus allowing the preparation of beverages that require infusion or percolation without turbulence, such as coffee or tea.
- a third permeable sheet such as filter paper
- the capsule is devoid of inner wall and the third sheet is attached directly to the walls of the cup, or to a flange of said wall, leaving the dose of the product that requires infusion or percolation without turbulence, such as coffee or tea , between the second sheet and the third sheet, even when the capsule is not provided with an intermediate wall.
- a system for preparing a beverage comprising a capsule and a machine for preparing a beverage by means of said capsule, the machine being provided with a housing for housing and retaining the capsule so that the capsule protrudes superiorly from said housing, and the machine also being provided with press means to close the housing superiorly and press the capsule against the bottom of said housing, so that the base of the capsule undergoes a thrust in the direction of the second sheet of the capsule allowing displacement of its tearing means, when the flexible portion of the capsule is folded, until the second sheet is torn or broken.
- a method for preparing a beverage is also disclosed by means of this system comprising the steps of housing and retaining the capsule in a machine housing, so that the capsule protrudes superiorly from said housing, and superiorly closing the housing by means Press the machine, pressing the capsule that protrudes superiorly from the housing against the bottom of the housing, so that the base of the capsule undergoes a thrust in the direction of the second sheet of the capsule allowing the displacement of its tearing means, to the bend the flexible portion of the capsule until the second sheet is torn or broken.
