Definitions
- the invention relates to the field of membrane gas separation and can be used to remove undesirable components of natural and technological gas mixtures.
- the main purpose of the invention is the allocation of acid gases (C0 2 and H 2 S) from natural and associated petroleum gases, for their preparation for pipeline transport.
- the invention is a method of removing components of gas mixtures based on membrane pertraction and selective absorption of a component of the gas phase by a liquid phase through a nanoporous membrane.
- Membrane perraction technology is the process of transferring penetrant from the gas phase to the liquid phase through a membrane.
- the process is implemented in a membrane contactor [Falk-Pedersen, O; Dannstrom, H. Method for Removing Carbon Dioxide from Gases, 2001].
- the high contact surface area in the gas-absorbent system created due to the hollow fibers significantly reduces the dimensions of the membrane contactors and, as a result, the operational and capital costs of their construction.
- a known method of the allocation of CO 2 from gases (US6,228, 145B1 (WO98 / 04339)
- Sour gas is fed into the hollow fibers, while the absorbent washes the outer surface.
- the patent proposes the use of hollow fibers, both in the absorber and in the desorption unit for regeneration of the absorbent.
- the packing densities of the hollow fiber membrane are 250-1000 m 2 / m 3 .
- the pore size of the membrane in Patent assumed chosen so as to avoid the penetration of the molecules of the absorbent (solvent) through a membrane that limits the range of materials used microporous membranes having extremely low permeability for C0 2 (typically to "1 m 3 / (m 2 atm hr) )
- This patent does not imply the use of transmembrane pressure, which inevitably leads to wetting of the membrane with an amine solution, degradation of its internal structure and, during prolonged use, the liquid absorbent entering the gas phase.
- the absorbent liquid penetration into the pores of the membrane due to significantly lower diffusion coefficients C0 2 in the liquid as compared with the gas phase is significantly reduced gas transfer rate through the membrane, which negatively affects its productivity.
- US8, 702,844 proposes a method for improving the contact of an “absorbent-acid component” and a membrane contactor based thereon.
- the essence of the method is to modify the membrane material with nanoparticles with a different chemical composition from the composition of the membrane material.
- nanoparticles of various chemical nature it is possible to vary the contact angle of the wetting surface of the membrane material.
- the disadvantage of this method is the need for an additional stage of modification, which increases the cost of the membrane material, as well as the likelihood of microdefects at the interface "nanoparticle-membrane material", which significantly reduces the chemical stability of the membrane material.
- the invention is proposed to be used for desorption of carbon dioxide from absorbents at high pressure.
- the process is carried out at an excess transmembrane pressure (more than 1 bar) from the side of the liquid phase.
- the disadvantage of the invention is the use of a polymeric material - polytrimethylsilylpropine, which at high pressure in the presence of carbon dioxide plasticizes and loses high permeability due to physical aging.
- a similar method is implemented in a utility model of a high pressure membrane contactor and an absorption-desorption device based on it for separating and releasing carbon dioxide from associated and flue gases (patent RU N ° 128515).
- the main disadvantage of this utility model is to use membranes based on politrimetilsilpropina, which is experiencing rapid physical aging under the influence of C0 2, accompanied by the physical degradation and a sharp decrease in membrane permeability.
- a similar method is also used in a device for mass transfer between the liquid and gas phases (patent RU N ° 2392038) containing a mass transfer chamber formed by two porous polymer membranes that are not wettable by the liquid phase, between which a layer of a non-wettable liquid phase porous polymer material with a system of through channels is placed, through which pump the liquid phase.
- the outer surface of the membranes is washed by the gas phase.
- the process is carried out at an excess pressure from the side of the liquid phase, maintaining the transmembrane pressure less than the capillary pressure of the porous materials.
- the device allows to increase the efficiency of mass transfer processes in a liquid-gas system, but it is too difficult to implement in an industrial environment. In addition, the excess pressure from the liquid leads to the gradual wetting of porous materials and their degradation.
- US7,544,340 proposes a method for creating a more effective contact of an acidic component with an absorbent in a hollow fiber membrane contactor.
- the method is implemented by supplying the absorbent under a pressure exceeding the resistance of the fiber surface to wetting with the absorbent. As a result, the absorbent partially penetrates into the pores of the hollow fiber.
- the disadvantage of this method is the possible degradation of the surface of the hollow fiber with over time under the influence of excess pressure from the side of the liquid phase, which leads to a decrease in the rate of gas transfer through the membrane when the pores are filled with the liquid phase and, during prolonged use, the liquid absorbent enters the gas phase.
- This solution was chosen as a prototype for the claimed method of extracting components of gas mixtures.
- the main problem of extracting components of gas mixtures by the pertraction method using gas-liquid membrane contactors is the gradual wetting of the membrane with an absorbent solution at excess pressure from the liquid phase, which leads to degradation of the membrane material and a decrease in the transfer rate of the components when pores are filled with a liquid phase and, with prolonged use, the ingress of liquid absorbent into the gas phase.
- the most promising solution is to maintain excess pressure in the gas phase, however, in the absence of affinity of the liquid absorbent to the membrane material, this inevitably leads to the formation of gas bubbles and gas entering the liquid phase.
- the outer surface of the membrane material should have a chemical affinity for the absorbent, and the pressure between the gas and liquid phases should not exceed the bubble point of the membrane, which determines the minimum gas pressure at which the liquid is extruded from the pores of the membrane with the maximum diameter.
- the bubble point determines the maximum pressure difference between gas and liquid, at which gas separation can be carried out on the membrane, while avoiding the ingress of gas into the liquid and vice versa.
- the maximum allowable pressure of the process of attraction will be limited by the pore diameter of the membrane.
- the pore diameter of the membrane should lie in the nanoscale range (5-500 nm).
- an essential parameter is a sufficiently small pore size dispersion (less than 50%). In the case of a wide pore size distribution, small pores can be filled with a phase of a liquid absorbent due to capillary pressure, which will reduce the productivity of the membrane and lead to its degradation.
- the present method is aimed at solving the problem of extracting undesirable components from natural and technological gas mixtures, including natural and associated petroleum gas, by pertraction in a membrane contactor with increased efficiency.
- the proposed method is based on the passage of the components of the gas mixture through the nanoporous membrane and the selective absorption of the components by an absorbent in contact with the nanoporous membrane, the pressure difference between the gas phase and the liquid absorbent being kept below the pressure of the bubble point of the membrane.
- the proposed method prevents the possibility of penetration of the liquid phase into the pore volume of the membrane, which significantly increases its performance and prevents degradation of the material. This allows efficient preparation and purification of natural and process gases to meet technical requirements, including acidic components, using the small size of the absorption modules and significantly reduce capital investments and operating costs of gas treatment plants, as well as increase the resistance of the membrane contactor to operational failures.
- the specified technical result for the method of extracting components from natural and technological gas mixtures is achieved by the fact that the method uses a nanoporous membrane with a pore diameter in the range of 5-500 nm and a low dispersion of the pore size distribution (less than 50%), and the transmembrane pressure between the gas phase and a liquid absorbent in the membrane contactor is maintained below the pressure of the bubble point of the membrane.
- the nanoporous membrane can be made in planar and tubular geometry, as well as in the form of hollow fibers. According to the microstructure, the membrane can be made in the form of an asymmetric membrane with a nanoporous selective layer on a large-pore substrate.
- the membrane can be made on the basis of material, both inorganic and organic, resistant to the action of absorbent material, and its outer surface can be chemically modified to provide a higher affinity for the solvent [N. Hilal, M. Khayet, C. J. Wright Membrane modification: technology and application, 2012].
- the membrane material can be anodic alumina, track polymers (polycarbonate, polyethylene terephthalate), as well as polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF), polysulfone, polyethersulfone, polypropylene.
- PVDF polyvinylidene difluoride
- the listed materials are characterized by pore dispersion in size not exceeding 50%, pore size in the range of 5-250 nm and a bubble point value of up to 2 bar.
- aqueous solutions of primary, secondary and tertiary amines, as well as mixtures of amines of various basicities, glycol solutions, physical absorbents used for the absorption preparation of natural and process gases can be used [A.L. Kohl and R. Nielsen, Gas Purification, 1997].
- the specified method allows you to extract components such as C0 2 , H 2 S, mercaptans, as well as water from natural and technological gas mixtures, including natural and associated petroleum gas. In this case, the degree of extraction of the components reaches the level of 90-99%.
- the regeneration of the absorbent can also be carried out through a nanoporous membrane, keeping the pressure difference between the gas phase and the liquid absorbent below the pressure of the bubble point of the membrane and using stripping gas that does not contain adsorbed components.
- the use of the claimed method also allows to reduce the effect of liquid absorbent on the membrane material, significantly improves the resistance of the membrane contactor to operational influences, increases the efficiency of gas transfer, and, in general, allows to reduce capital investments and operating costs for gas treatment plants.
- the specified method allows to significantly increase the productivity of acid gas extraction (more than 0.3 nm 3 / (m 2 hour) according to ⁇ 0 2 ) with a packing density of the hollow fiber membrane up to 3200 m 2 / m 3 , which corresponds to a specific volumetric productivity of acid gas removal up to 1000 nm 3 / (m 3 hours).

Description
Method for Removing Carbon Dioxide from Gases, 2001].
Khayet, С. J. Wright Membrane modification: technology and application, 2012].
[A.L. Kohl and R. Nielsen, Gas Purification, 1997].
