Abstract

HUD装置は、車両に搭載され、画像をウインドシールドに投影することにより、画像を乗員により視認可能に虚像表示する。HUD装置は、互いに配列され、照明を行なう複数の照明ユニット(10)と、照明対象面(32)を有し、各照明ユニット(10)がそれぞれ照明対象面(32)のうち対応箇所を照明することにより、画像が形成される画像形成部(30)と、を備える。各照明ユニット(10)は、発光強度が最大となるピーク方向(PD)から乖離するに従って発光強度が低下する放射角度分布にて、照明光を発する発光素子(12)と、発光素子(12)と向き合って配置され、照明光のうちピーク方向PDの光を含む一部放射束を取り込んで集光により平行化する集光部(14)と、を有する。

Description

ヘッドアップディスプレイ装置及びその生産方法 関連出願の相互参照
 本出願は、2016年1月26日に出願された日本出願番号2016-12761号に基づくもので、ここにその記載内容を援用する。
 本開示は、移動体に搭載され、画像を乗員により視認可能に虚像表示するヘッドアップディスプレイ装置(以下、HUD装置を略称とする)に関する。
 従来、移動体に搭載され、画像を乗員により視認可能に虚像表示するHUD装置が知られている。特許文献1に開示のHUD装置は、互いに配列され、照明を行なう複数の照明ユニットと、照明対象面を有し、各照明ユニットがそれぞれ照明対象面のうち対応箇所を照明することにより、画像が形成される画像形成部と、を備えている。
 ここで、各照明ユニットは、照明光を発する発光素子と、発光素子と向き合って配置され、照明光を集光する集光部と、を有している。

 しかしながら、特許文献1には、発光素子がどのような放射角度分布を有するのかも、発光素子の照明光に対する集光部の集光機能の詳細も、開示されていない。したがって、発光素子からの光を効率的に利用して、輝度ムラを低減することが困難であった。
 本開示は、効率的に虚像の輝度ムラを低減可能なHUD装置を提供することを目的とする。更に本開示は、ヘッドアップディスプレイ装置の生産方法を提供することを目的とする。
 本開示の第一の態様において、ヘッドアップディスプレイ装置は、移動体に搭載され、画像を投影部材に投影することにより、前記画像を乗員により視認可能に虚像表示する。前記ヘッドアップディスプレイ装置は、互いに配列され、照明を行なう複数の照明ユニットを備える。前記ヘッドアップディスプレイ装置は、照明対象面を有し、各前記照明ユニットがそれぞれ前記照明対象面のうち対応箇所を照明することにより、前記画像が形成される画像形成部を更に備える。各前記照明ユニットは、発光強度が最大となるピーク方向から乖離するに従って発光強度が低下する放射角度分布にて、照明光を発する発光素子を有する。各前記照明ユニットは、前記発光素子と向き合って配置され、前記照明光のうち前記ピーク方向の光を含む一部放射束を取り込んで集光により平行化する集光部を更に有する。
 本開示の一つの態様において、前記ヘッドアップディスプレイ装置の生産方法は、前記照明ユニットの配列において、前記発光素子の前記放射角度分布に応じて前記集光部のF値を設定するF値設定ステップを含む。前記生産方法は、前記F値に基づいて、前記照明ユニットの配列により前記照明対象面の全体が照明されるように、前記照明ユニットの総数を設定するユニット数設定ステップを更に含む。
 本開示についての上記目的およびその他の目的、特徴や利点は、添付の図面を参照しながら下記の詳細な記述により、より明確になる。その図面は、

 以下、本開示の複数の実施形態を図面に基づいて説明する。なお、各実施形態において対応する構成要素には同一の符号を付すことにより、重複する説明を省略する場合がある。各実施形態において構成の一部分のみを説明している場合、当該構成の他の部分については、先行して説明した他の実施形態の構成を適用することができる。また、各実施形態の説明において明示している構成の組み合わせばかりではなく、特に組み合わせに支障が生じなければ、明示していなくても複数の実施形態の構成同士を部分的に組み合せることができる。
 (第1実施形態)
 図1に示すように、本開示の第1実施形態によるHUD装置100は、移動体の一種である車両1に搭載され、インストルメントパネル2内に収容されている。HUD装置100は、車両1の投影部材としてのウインドシールド3に画像を投影する。これにより、HUD装置100は、画像を車両1の乗員により視認可能に虚像表示する。すなわち、ウインドシールド3に反射される画像の光が、車両1の室内において乗員のアイポイントEPに到達し、乗員が当該光を知覚する。そして、乗員は、虚像VIとして表示される各種情報を認識することができる。虚像VIとして表示される各種情報としては、例えば、車速、燃料残量等の車両状態値、又は道路情報、視界補助情報等の車両情報が挙げられる。
 車両1のウインドシールド3は、透光性のガラスないしは合成樹脂等により板状に形成されている。ウインドシールド3において、室内側の面は、画像が投影される投影面3aを滑らかな凹面状又は平面状に形成している。なお、投影部材として、ウインドシールド3の代わりに、車両1と別体となっているコンバイナを車両1内に設置して、当該コンバイナに画像を投影するものであってもよい。
 このようなHUD装置100の具体的構成を、図1~6に基づいて、以下に説明する。HUD装置100は、複数の照明ユニット10、画像形成部30、平面鏡40、及び凹面鏡42を備えており、これらはハウジング50に収容され、保持されている。
 複数の照明ユニット10は、図2に示すように、互いに配列されている。特に本実施形態では、一配列方向ADに配列された照明ユニット10が3つ設けられている。各照明ユニット10は、それぞれ発光素子12及び集光部14を有している。
 各照明ユニット10において、発光素子12は、発熱の少ない発光ダイオード素子である。発光素子12は、光源用回路基板上に配置され、当該基板上の配線パターンを通じて、電源と電気的に接続されている。より詳細に、発光素子12は、チップ状の青色発光ダイオード素子を、透光性を有する合成樹脂に黄色蛍光剤を混合した黄色蛍光体により封止することにより形成されている。青色発光ダイオード素子から電流量に応じて発せられる青色光により、黄色蛍光体が励起されて黄色光を発光し、青色光と黄色光との合成により疑似白色の照明光が発せられる。
 ここで図3に示すように、発光素子12は、発光強度が最大となるピーク方向PDから乖離するに従って発光強度が相対的に低下する放射角度分布にて、照明光を発する。
 各照明ユニット10において集光部14は、図2に示すように、発光素子12と対になるように設けられ、発光素子12と向き合って配置されている。具体的に第1実施形態の集光部14は、2つのレンズ素子15,18を有するレンズ群となっている。
 第1レンズ素子15は、透光性の合成樹脂ないしはガラス等からなる集光素子であり、集光部14において発光素子12側に配置されている。第1レンズ素子15は、発光素子12側において、入射側屈折面16を、滑らかな平面状に有している。また第1レンズ素子15は、第2レンズ素子18側において、射出側屈折面17を、滑らかな凸曲面状に形成している。
 そして、照明ユニット10の配列において各第1レンズ素子15は、一部品として一体的に形成されてレンズアレイを構成している。
 第2レンズ素子18は、透光性の合成樹脂ないしはガラス等からなる集光素子であり、集光部14において画像形成部30側に配置されている。第2レンズ素子18は、第1レンズ素子15側において、入射側屈折面16を、滑らかな平面状に形成している。また、第2レンズ素子18は、画像形成部30側において、照明光を屈折させる複合光学面20を形成している。
 複合光学面20は、第2レンズ素子18の全面に亘って形成されている。複合光学面20は、集光面21と、偏向面22とが交互に連なる交互配列構造を、形成している。
 集光面21は、集光仮想面Sicを配列方向ADに所定の分割幅Wsで領域分割した一分割領域として、形成されている。ここで、集光仮想面Sicは、画像形成部30側に凸となる凸面として滑らかな曲面状となっている。
 偏向面22は、偏向仮想面Sidを配列方向ADに所定の分割幅Wsで領域分割した一分割領域として、形成されている。偏向仮想面Sidは、集光仮想面Sicの面頂点に対応する箇所で逆勾配に変わる複数の斜面Sisにより構成されており、本実施形態において各斜面Sisは、滑らかな平面状となっている。ここで、各斜面Sisの勾配は、集光仮想面Sicの対応する箇所の勾配とは逆勾配となるように設定されている。
 ここで、集光面21及び偏向面22の領域分割における分割幅Wsは、様々に設定されているが、各面間でサグ量がおよそ一定になるように設定されることで、第2レンズ素子18全体の厚みを一定化している。これら集光面21と偏向面22とが交互に配列されることで、集光仮想面Sicのうち一部の形状、及び偏向仮想面Sidのうち一部の形状が抽出されて、複合光学面20上に再現されている。なお、図2では、分割幅Wsのうち一部にのみその寸法が示されている。
 こうした集光面21は、照明光を集光により平行化し、偏向面22は、照明光を集光面21による屈折とは逆側に偏向するようになっている。
 各集光面21のうち、集光仮想面Sicの面頂点を含む集光面21において面頂点21aは、発光素子12と第1レンズ素子15の射出側屈折面17の面頂点17aとを結ぶ直線SL上に配置されている。この直線SLは配列方向ADと実質直交している。こうした第2レンズ素子18は、照明ユニット10の配列において、一部品として一体的に形成されて複合型フレネルレンズアレイを構成している。
 そして、発光素子12は、集光部14の焦点FP上に配置されている。より詳細には、各レンズ素子15,18の合成焦点距離(すなわち主平面PCから焦点までの距離、図6も参照)である集光部14の焦点距離をfとすると、発光素子12の配置において、例えば、直線SLに沿った方向において焦点距離fの10%、配列方向ADにおいて焦点距離fの5%の誤差が許容される。加えて発光素子12は、ピーク方向PDを直線SLに沿わせて照明光を発するようになっている。
 これら各照明ユニット10におけるこうした発光素子12と集光部14との配置構成及び集光部14のF値の設定の結果、集光部14は、照明光のうちピーク方向PDの光を含む一部放射束を取り込んで集光により平行化するようになっている。平行化された光が直線SLに沿うことで、各照明ユニット10において直線SLに沿った光路が構成されている。
 より詳細に、発光素子12の発光強度がピーク方向PDに対して、第1所定割合(本実施形態では50%)以上である分布範囲の照明光を一部放射束として集光可能とするF値をFminとする。また、発光素子12の発光強度がピーク方向PDに対して、第1所定割合よりも高い第2所定割合(本実施形態では90%)以上である分布範囲の照明光を一部放射束として集光可能とするF値をFmaxとする。すると、集光部14のF値は、Fmin以上、かつ、Fmax以下となっている。なお、本実施形態におけるF値の定義については後述する。
 本実施形態の放射角度分布の発光素子12について言えば、Fminの場合、図3の相対発光強度が0.5となる角度を参照すると、約±60度となっているので、集光部14は、照明光のうち-60度~+60度の範囲を一部放射束として取り込むこととなる。Fmaxの場合、図3の相対発光強度が0.9となる角度を参照すると、約±20度となっているので、集光部14は、照明光のうち-25度~+25度の範囲を一部放射束として取り込むこととなる。
 このように照明を行なう一照明ユニット10は、このように一部放射束を平行化して、画像形成部30において直線SLと実質直交している照明対象面32のうち、対応箇所を照明する。
 本実施形態の画像形成部30は、図1に示すように、薄膜トランジスタ(Thin Film Transistor、TFT)を用いた液晶パネルであって、例えば2次元方向に配列された複数の液晶画素から形成されるアクティブマトリクス型の液晶パネルである。画像形成部30では、一対の偏光板及び一対の偏光板に挟まれた液晶層等が積層されている。偏光板は、電場ベクトルが所定方向の光を透過させ、電場ベクトルが所定方向と実質垂直な方向の光を吸収する性質を有し、一対の偏光板は当該所定方向を実質直交して配置される。液晶層は、液晶画素毎の電圧印加により、印加電圧に応じて液晶層に入射する光の偏光方向を回転させることが可能となっている。
 したがって、画像形成部30は、パネルの照明ユニット10側表面である照明対象面32への光の入射により、液晶画素毎の当該光の透過率を制御して、画像を形成することが可能となっている。隣り合う液晶画素には、互いに異なる色(例えば、赤、緑、及び青)のカラーフィルタが設けられており、これらの組み合わせにより、様々な色が実現されるようになっている。
 ここで各照明ユニット10がそれぞれ照明対象面32のうち、対応箇所を照明することにより、照明対象面32の全体が照明されるようになっている。本実施形態では、一配列方向ADに3つの照明ユニット10が配列されることにより、配列方向ADに対応する方向を長手方向とする矩形状の画像が形成される。
 さらに画像形成部30は、照明ユニット10側表面において、拡散部34を有している。拡散部34は、照明対象面32に沿って配置され、例えばフィルム状に形成される。あるいは拡散部34は、例えば照明対象面32に微小な凹凸を設けることにより形成されてもよい。こうした拡散部34は、平行化された照明光を拡散してから画像形成部30を透過させる。
 画像形成部30により形成された画像の光は、平面鏡40に入射する。
 平面鏡40は、合成樹脂ないしはガラス等からなる基材の表面に、反射面41としてアルミニウムを蒸着させること等により形成されている。反射面41は、滑らかな平面状に形成されている。そして、平面鏡40は、画像形成部30からの画像の光を、凹面鏡42へ向けて反射する。
 凹面鏡42は、合成樹脂ないしはガラス等からなる基材の表面に、反射面43としてアルミニウムを蒸着させること等により形成されている。反射面43は、凹面鏡42の中心が凹む凹面として、滑らかな曲面状に形成されている。そして、凹面鏡42は、平面鏡40からの画像の光を、ウインドシールド3へ向けて反射する。
 凹面鏡42とウインドシールド3との間においてハウジング50に開口部が設けられている。開口部には、透光性の防塵カバー52が設けられている。したがって、凹面鏡42からの画像の光は、当該防塵カバー52を透過して、ウインドシールド3に反射される。こうして乗員がウインドシールド3に反射された光を虚像VIとして視認可能となるのである。
 次に、本実施形態の照明ユニット10の配列について、図4~6に簡略化して示される配列方向ADの断面構成図を用いて詳細に説明する。
 まず、図4を基に、一つの照明ユニット10が照明対象面32の対応箇所を照明する照明幅Hについて考える。今、発光素子12が焦点FP上に配置されている。したがって、集光部14の焦点距離fを用いて、集光部14のF値であるFnoはFno=f/Hで定義され得るから、平行化された光による照明幅HはH=f/Fnoで表される。前述の通り、集光部14のF値は、Fmin以上、かつ、Fmax以下に設定されているので、結局、照明幅Hは、

 次に、図5に示す照明ユニット10の配列にて、配列方向ADにおける発光素子12の配列個数をNaとし、配列方向ADに対応する照明対象面32の寸法をLaとする。配列方向ADにおいて照明対象面32の全幅を隙間なく照明するためには、Na=La/Hの配列個数が必要である。したがって、本実施形態では、La/Naが

 図5に対して集光部14を第1レンズ素子15及び第2レンズ素子18を分離して図示した図6を用いて、さらに詳細を説明する。ここで発光素子12と第2レンズ素子18との間の距離をLopとし、両レンズ素子15,18間の距離をdとする。さらに、第1レンズ素子15の焦点距離をf1、第2レンズ素子18の焦点距離をf2とすると、集光部14の焦点距離fは、

の範囲に設定されていることがわかる。
 ここで、式2あるいは式4を満足するように設計されたHUD装置100について、発明者が行なった虚像表示の輝度シミュレーションについて説明する。各照明ユニット10において、集光部14のF値をFno=0.5(図7)、Fno=0.7(図8)、Fno=1.0(図9)にそれぞれ設定した場合が図示されている。さらに配列方向AD断面における輝度分布が図10に図示されている。
 これを検証すると、La/Naが式2の下限に近くなるFno=1.0の場合では、これよりもF値が小さい場合に比べて輝度ムラが抑制されていることがわかる。その一方で比較的、寸法La当たりの配列個数は多くなり得る。そして、式2の範囲を超えて、F値をFmaxよりも大きく設定すると、F=1.0の場合と比べて輝度ムラの抑制効果が然程変わらないのにもかかわらず、寸法La当たりの配列個数Naが急増してしまう。
 一方、La/Naが式2の上限に近くなるFno=0.5の場合では、これよりもF値が小さい場合に比べて、寸法La当たりの配列個数Naは少なくて済む。その一方で比較的、輝度ムラは大きくなる。そして、式2の範囲を超えて、F値をFminよりも小さく設定すると、輝度ムラによって虚像VIの視認性に大きな影響が生じる。
 以下では、このようなHUD装置100の生産方法について、特に照明ユニット10を配列する方法を中心に、図11のフローチャートを用いて説明する。
 まず、ステップS10では、F値設定ステップとして、照明ユニット10の配列において、発光素子12の放射角度分布に応じた集光部14のF値を設定する。特に本実施形態では、集光部14のF値をFmin以上、かつ、Fmax以下に設定する。ステップS10の終了後、ステップS20へ移る。
 ステップS20では、ユニット数設定ステップとして、F値に基づいて、照明ユニット10の配列により照明対象面32の全体が照明されるように、照明ユニット10の総数を設定する。具体的には、F値及び焦点距離fより照明幅Hが得られるので、これに基づいてLa/Hの値を切り上げることで得られた自然数を、配列個数Naとして設定すればよい。ステップS20の終了後、ステップS30へ移る。
 ステップS30では、照明ユニット10の配列の組み立てを行なう。すなわち、各照明ユニット10がそれぞれ照明対象面32のうち対応箇所を照明することにより、照明対象面32の全体が照明されるように、各照明ユニット10を互いに配列する。
 さらにその他の要素が前述のように構成されることにより、HUD装置100が完成する。
 (作用効果)
 以上説明した第1実施形態の作用効果を以下に説明する。
 第1実施形態によると、各照明ユニット10において、発光素子12から発せられる照明光は、発光素子12と向き合って配置された集光部14により集光される。より詳細には、各照明ユニット10において、発光強度が最大となるピーク方向PDから乖離するに従って発光強度が低下する放射角度分布の照明光のうち、ピーク方向PDの光を含む一部放射束が、集光部14の集光により平行化される。要するに、照明光のうちピーク方向PDに対して発光強度が低い部分を除外して、照明光を平行化することが可能となる。このような集光部14により平行化された照明光が画像形成部30の照明対象面32のうち対応箇所を照明する。そして、互いに配列された各照明ユニット10により、照明対象面32の全体への均一化された照明が可能となるので、画像全体の輝度ムラを抑制することができる。以上により、画像のウインドシールド3への投影により表示される虚像VIの輝度ムラを低減可能となるのである。
 照明光のうちピーク方向PDの光を含む一部放射束を取り込む集光部14において、F値が過小な場合、照明光の発光強度がより低い部分まで集光されてしまい、輝度ムラの低減効果が小さくなる。一方でF値が過大な場合、照明対象面32を照明するためにより多数の照明ユニット10が必要となる。そこで第1実施形態では、集光部14のF値は、Fmin以上、かつ、Fmax以下となっている。したがって、照明ユニット10の必要数と輝度ムラの低減効果との調和が図られて、効率的に虚像VIの輝度ムラを低減することが可能となる。
 また、第1実施形態によると、式2の範囲にLa/Naが設定されているので、一配列方向ADにおいて、発光素子12の配列個数Naの増加を抑制しつつ、照明対象面32への照明を確実に均一化できる。
 また、第1実施形態によると、照明光は、集光部14が有するレンズ素子18の複合光学面20にて屈折される。ここで、複合光学面20は、照明光を集光により平行化する集光面21と、偏向面22とが、交互に連なる交互配列構造を、形成している。この交互配列構造では、発光素子12から対応する集光部14に取り込まれた光は、当該集光面21により集光される一方、対応する集光部14に取り込まれずに隣の照明ユニット10に入射した光についても、一部が偏向面22により再び対応する照明ユニット10側に偏光され得る。したがって、隣の照明ユニット10と光が混ぜ合わされるだけでなく、取り込まれなかった光が再利用されることとなるので、虚像VIの輝度ムラを低減することができる。
 また、第1実施形態によると、式4の範囲にLa/Naが設定されている。これにより、2つの集光素子としてレンズ素子15,18を有する集光部14において、一配列方向ADにおいて、発光素子12の配列個数Naの増加を抑制しつつ、照明対象面32への照明を確実に均一化できる。
 また、第1実施形態によると、画像形成部30は、照明対象面32に沿って配置される拡散部34を有するので、集光部14により照明光が平行化されても、拡散部34により画像の光が拡散される。したがって、効率的に虚像VIの輝度ムラを低減しつつ、当該虚像VIを視認可能な視野角を拡大することができる。
 また、第1実施形態のHUD装置100の生産方法では、照明ユニット10において、発光素子12の放射角度分布に応じて集光部14のF値が設定される。そして、設定されたF値に基づいて、照明ユニット10の総数が設定される。照明ユニット10の総数の設定により、当該照明ユニット10の配列により照明対象面32の全体が照明される。こうして、各集光部14のF値が好適な値に設定されると共に、互いに配列された各照明ユニット10により、照明対象面32の全体への均一化された照明が可能となる。したがって、照明ユニット10の必要数と画像全体に亘る輝度ムラの低減効果との調和を図ることができる。以上により、画像のウインドシールド3への投影により表示される虚像VIの輝度ムラを低減したHUD装置が提供可能となるのである。
 (第2実施形態)
 図12に示すように、本開示の第2実施形態は第1実施形態の変形例である。第2実施形態について、第1実施形態とは異なる点を中心に説明する。
 第2実施形態の各照明ユニット210は、互いに交差する第1配列方向AD1及び第2配列方向AD2の2次元方向に、配列されている。特に第2実施形態では、第1配列方向AD1は、画像形成部230の照明対象面232の左右方向に対応し、第2配列方向AD2は、照明対象面232の上下方向に対応している。こうして、第1配列方向AD1と第2配列方向AD2とが実質直交している。
 そして、照明ユニット210の配列にて、第1配列方向AD1における発光素子212の配列個数をNahとし、照明対象面232の左右方向の寸法をLahとすると、第1実施形態の式2,4と同様に、Lah/Nahは、
 f/Fmax≦Lah/Nah≦f/Fmin …(式5)
 (Lop-d)/Fmax≦Lah/Nah≦(Lop-d)/Fmin …(式6)の範囲に設定されている。
 また、照明ユニット210の配列にて、第2配列方向AD2における発光素子212の配列個数をNavとし、照明対象面232の左右方向の寸法をLavとすると、第1実施形態の式2,4と同様に、Lav/Navは、

 (Lop-d)/Fmax≦Lav/Nav≦(Lop-d)/Fmin …(式8)の範囲に設定されている。
 ここで、各配列方向AD1,AD2に配列された発光素子212の総数をNsとし、照明対象面232の面積をStとする。Ns=Nah・Nav、St=Lah・Lavであるから、式5,7よりSt/Nsは、
 f/Fmax≦St/Ns≦f/Fmin …(式9)
の範囲に設定されていることがわかる。
 同様に、式6,8よりSt/Nsは、

の範囲に設定されていることがわかる。
 なお、図12では、一部の照明ユニット210にのみ発光素子212及び集光部214の符号が付されている。
 また、生産方法としては、第1実施形態のステップS20と同様の配列個数Nah,Navの設定を、各配列方向AD1,AD2について行なうことで、照明ユニットの総数を設定することができる。
 このような第2実施形態においても、集光部214が照明光のうちピーク方向PDの光を含む一部放射束を取り込んで集光により平行化しているので、第1実施形態に準じた作用効果を奏することが可能となる。
 また、第2実施形態によると、2次元方向に配列された照明ユニット210の配列において式9の範囲にSt/Nsが設定されているので、発光素子212の総数Nsの増加を抑制しつつ、照明対象面232の全体への照明を確実に均一化できる。
 また、第2実施形態によると、2次元方向に配列された照明ユニット210の配列において式10の範囲にSt/Nsが設定されている。これにより、2つの集光素子を有する集光部214において、発光素子212の総数Nsの増加を抑制しつつ、照明対象面232への照明を確実に均一化できる。
 (他の実施形態)
 以上、本開示の複数の実施形態について説明したが、本開示は、それらの実施形態に限定して解釈されるものではなく、本開示の要旨を逸脱しない範囲内において種々の実施形態及び組み合わせに適用することができる。
 具体的に変形例1としては、第2レンズ素子18は、集光面21と偏向面22とが交互に連なる交互配列構造を形成した複合光学面20を採用していなくてもよい。この例として、第2レンズ素子18は、滑らかな曲面状の屈折面により、一部放射束を集光により平行化するものであってもよい。
 変形例2としては、各照明ユニット10において集光部14は、1つのレンズ素子により構成されていてもよい。また、各照明ユニット10において集光部14は、3つ以上のレンズ素子により構成されていてもよい。
 変形例3としては、各照明ユニット10において集光部14は、レンズ素子以外の集光素子を採用することができる。図13の例では、集光部14は、集光素子として反射素子を含んでいる。
 変形例4としては、画像形成部30は、拡散部34を有していなくてもよい。
 変形例5としては、発光素子12は、ピーク方向PDから乖離するに従って発光強度が低下する放射角度分布であればよく、図3に示す分布よりも、指向性の高い発光素子又は指向性の低い発光素子を採用することができる。
 第2実施形態に関する変形例6としては、第1配列方向AD1と第2配列方向AD2とは、互いに交差するものであれば、直交していなくてもよい。
 変形例7としては、車両1以外の船舶ないしは飛行機等の各種移動体(輸送機器)に、本開示を適用してもよい。
 上述のヘッドアップディスプレイ装置は、移動体1に搭載され、画像を投影部材3に投影することにより、画像を乗員により視認可能に虚像表示する。前記ヘッドアップディスプレイ装置は、互いに配列され、照明を行なう複数の照明ユニット10,210を備える。前記ヘッドアップディスプレイ装置は、照明対象面32,232を有し、各照明ユニットがそれぞれ照明対象面のうち対応箇所を照明することにより、画像が形成される画像形成部30,230を更に備える。各照明ユニットは、発光強度が最大となるピーク方向PDから乖離するに従って発光強度が低下する放射角度分布にて、照明光を発する発光素子12,212を有する。各照明ユニットは、発光素子と向き合って配置され、照明光のうちピーク方向の光を含む一部放射束を取り込んで集光により平行化する集光部14,214を更に有する。
 このような構成によると、各照明ユニットにおいて、発光素子から発せられる照明光は、発光素子と向き合って配置された集光部により集光される。より詳細には、各照明ユニットにおいて、発光強度が最大となるピーク方向から乖離するに従って発光強度が低下する放射角度分布の照明光のうち、ピーク方向の光を含む一部放射束が、集光部の集光により平行化される。要するに、照明光のうちピーク方向に対して発光強度が低い部分を除外して、照明光を平行化することが可能となる。このような集光部により平行化された照明光が画像形成部の照明対象面のうち対応箇所を照明する。そして、互いに配列された各照明ユニットにより、照明対象面の全体への均一化された照明が可能となるので、画像全体の輝度ムラを抑制することができる。以上により、画像の投影部材への投影により表示される虚像の輝度ムラを低減可能となるのである。
 開示の他のひとつによると、前記ヘッドアップディスプレイ装置の生産方法は、照明ユニットの配列において、発光素子の放射角度分布に応じて集光部のF値を設定するF値設定ステップS10を含む。前記生産方法は、F値に基づいて、照明ユニットの配列により照明対象面の全体が照明されるように、照明ユニットの総数を設定するユニット数設定ステップS20を更に含む。
 照明光のうちピーク方向の光を含む一部放射束を取り込む集光部において、F値が過小な場合、照明光の発光強度がより低い部分まで集光されてしまい、輝度ムラの低減効果が小さくなる。一方でF値が過大な場合、照明対象面を照明するためにより多数の照明ユニットが必要となる。
 そこで本開示の生産方法では、照明ユニットにおいて、発光素子の放射角度分布に応じて集光部のF値が設定される。そして、設定されたF値に基づいて、照明ユニットの総数が設定される。照明ユニットの総数の設定により、当該照明ユニットの配列により照明対象面の全体が照明される。こうして、各集光部のF値が好適な値に設定されると共に、互いに配列された各照明ユニットにより、照明対象面の全体への均一化された照明が可能となる。したがって、照明ユニットの必要数と画像全体に亘る輝度ムラの低減効果との調和を図ることができる。以上により、画像の投影部材への投影により表示される虚像の輝度ムラを低減したHUD装置が提供可能となるのである。
 本開示は、実施例に準拠して記述されたが、本開示は当該実施例や構造に限定されるものではないと理解される。本開示は、様々な変形例や均等範囲内の変形をも包含する。加えて、様々な組み合わせや形態、さらには、それらに一要素のみ、それ以上、あるいはそれ以下、を含む他の組み合わせや形態をも、本開示の範疇や思想範囲に入るものである。

Claims (10)

  1.  移動体(1)に搭載され、画像を投影部材(3)に投影することにより、前記画像を乗員により視認可能に虚像表示するヘッドアップディスプレイ装置であって、
     互いに配列され、照明を行なう複数の照明ユニット(10,210)と、
     照明対象面(32,232)を有し、各前記照明ユニットがそれぞれ前記照明対象面のうち対応箇所を照明することにより、前記画像が形成される画像形成部(30,230)と、を備え、
     各前記照明ユニットは、
     発光強度が最大となるピーク方向(PD)から乖離するに従って発光強度が低下する放射角度分布にて、照明光を発する発光素子(12,212)と、
     前記発光素子と向き合って配置され、前記照明光のうち前記ピーク方向の光を含む一部放射束を取り込んで集光により平行化する集光部(14,214)と、を有するヘッドアップディスプレイ装置。
  2.  前記発光素子の発光強度が前記ピーク方向に対して50%以上である分布範囲の前記照明光を前記一部放射束として集光可能とするF値をFminとし、前記発光素子の発光強度が前記ピーク方向に対して90%以上である分布範囲の前記照明光を前記一部放射束として集光可能とするF値をFmaxとすると、
     各前記照明ユニットにおいて、各前記集光部のF値は、Fmin以上、かつ、Fmax以下である請求項1に記載のヘッドアップディスプレイ装置。
  3.  前記照明ユニットの配列にて、一配列方向(AD)における前記発光素子の配列個数をNaとし、前記一配列方向に対応する前記照明対象面の寸法をLaとし、各前記集光部の焦点距離をfとすると、La/Naは、
     f/Fmax≦Lt/Na≦f/Fmin
    の範囲に設定されている請求項2に記載のヘッドアップディスプレイ装置。
  4.  各照明ユニットは、互いに交差する第1配列方向(AD1)及び第2配列方向(AD2)の2次元方向に配列され、
     前記照明ユニットの配列にて、前記発光素子の総数をNsとし、前記照明対象面の面積をStとし、各前記集光部の焦点距離をfとすると、St/Nsは、
     f/Fmax≦St/Ns≦f/Fmin
    の範囲に設定されている請求項2又は3に記載のヘッドアップディスプレイ装置。
  5.  各前記照明ユニットにおいて、前記集光部は、前記照明光を複合光学面(20)にて屈折させるレンズ素子(18)を有し、
     前記複合光学面は、前記照明光を集光により平行化する集光面(21)と、前記照明光を前記集光面の集光による屈折とは逆側に偏向する偏向面(22)とが、交互に連なる交互配列構造を、形成している請求項1から4のいずれか1項に記載のヘッドアップディスプレイ装置。
  6.  各前記照明ユニットにて、前記集光部は、前記発光素子と前記対応箇所との間の光路上に2つの集光素子(15,18)を有し、
     前記照明ユニットの配列にて、一配列方向における前記発光素子の配列個数をNaとし、前記一配列方向に対応する前記照明対象面の寸法をLaとし、前記発光素子と各前記集光素子のうち前記対応箇所側の集光素子との間の距離をLopとし、各前記集光素子間の距離をdとすると、La/Naは、
     (Lop-d)/Fmax≦La/Na≦(Lop-d)/Fmin
    の範囲に設定されている請求項2に記載のヘッドアップディスプレイ装置。
  7.  各前記照明ユニットは、互いに交差する第1配列方向及び第2配列方向の2次元方向に配列され、
     各前記照明ユニットにおいて、前記集光部は、前記発光素子と前記対応箇所との間の光路上に2つの集光素子を有し、
     前記照明ユニットの配列にて、前記発光素子の総数をNsとし、前記照明対象面の面積をStとし、前記発光素子と各前記集光素子のうち前記対応箇所側の集光素子との間の距離をLopとし、各前記集光素子間の距離をdとすると、St/Nsは、
     (Lop-d)/Fmax≦St/Ns≦(Lop-d)/Fmin
    の範囲に設定されている請求項2又は6に記載のヘッドアップディスプレイ装置。
  8.  前記発光素子のうち少なくとも1つは、前記照明光を複合光学面にて屈折するレンズ素子であり、
     前記複合光学面は、前記照明光を集光により平行化する集光面と、前記照明光を前記集光面の集光による屈折とは逆側に偏向する偏向面とが、交互に連なる交互配列構造を、形成している請求項6又は7に記載のヘッドアップディスプレイ装置。
  9.  前記画像形成部は、前記照明対象面に沿って配置され、前記集光部により平行化された前記照明光を拡散する拡散部(34)を有する請求項1から8のいずれか1項に記載のヘッドアップディスプレイ装置。
  10.  移動体(1)に搭載され、画像を投影部材(3)に投影することにより、前記画像を乗員により視認可能に虚像表示するヘッドアップディスプレイ装置において、
     互いに配列され、照明を行なう複数の照明ユニット(10,210)と、
     照明対象面(32,232)を有し、各前記照明ユニットがそれぞれ前記照明対象面のうち対応箇所を照明することにより、前記画像が形成される画像形成部(30,230)と、を備え、
     各前記照明ユニットは、
     発光強度が最大となるピーク方向(PD)から乖離するに従って発光強度が低下する放射角度分布にて、照明光を発する発光素子(12,212)と、
     前記発光素子と向き合って配置され、前記照明光のうち前記ピーク方向の光を含む一部分を取り込んで集光により平行化する集光部(14,214)と、を有するヘッドアップディスプレイ装置の生産方法であって、
     前記照明ユニットの配列において、前記発光素子の前記放射角度分布に応じて前記集光部のF値を設定するF値設定ステップ(S10)と、
     前記F値に基づいて、前記照明ユニットの配列により前記照明対象面の全体が照明されるように、前記照明ユニットの総数を設定するユニット数設定ステップ(S20)と、を含むヘッドアップディスプレイ装置の生産方法。
