Definitions

  • the field or technological field where the present invention is applied for practical use is catheters for medical and health purposes.
  • Catheters are medical devices in the form of plastic or rubber tubes, sometimes coated, that are inserted into the channels, vessels, pathways or cavities in the body to facilitate a variety of functions, such as injection or fluid extraction , the maintenance of open ducts, the use of an incision device or the delivery of an electric charge. Catheters make it possible to drain or inject fluids or to access areas of the body with surgical instruments. Most catheters are used for cardiovascular, renal, hemodynamic infusion or neurological applications.
  • a tunneled catheter is referred to which makes use of one or more porous sleeves to anchor the catheter in the skin of a patient, and / or to minimize the risk of infection.
  • a catheter comprising: an axis constructed of a polymeric material that is located near a first opening at said proximal end and a second opening at said distal end; a lumen extending between said first and second aperture; a porous element arranged around a part of said axis, wherein said porous element comprises the first polymeric material and is positioned closer to the proximal end of the axis than the distal end of the axis.
