Abstract
有機導電材料を用いてフレキシブルな2次電池を作製する場合、金属電極等を用いると接触抵抗が大きくなり、また、フレキシブル性が損なわれる、重量が増す等の問題がある。電荷キャリア密度を制御できる同種あるいは異種の有機導電材料を利用して異なる電荷キャリア密度を有する2個の有機導電材料を準備し、それらをプロトンが拡散しうる電解質で接続するだけで、正極と負極を構成する金属や炭素等の電極を使用しない、また補助剤や材料表面加工等の過程を必要としない充電可能かつフレキシブルな2次電池を作製した。
Description
本発明は、有機導電材料からなる2次電池に関する。
軽量電池の作製のために、有機材料を用いることは有効だと言う報告がある(非特許文献1)。
しかし、電極等の部材との接触抵抗が大きいことが問題となり実用化が進まない。
一方、導電性高分子材料として知られるPEDOT系材料で電池作製の報告がある。
しかし、充電が不可能(非特許文献2)である、あるいは充放電が可能であってもマイナスイオン伝導を動作機構とする化学電池しか得られていない(非特許文献3)。

導電性有機材料を用い、特別の電極を使用せず、酸化還元機構によらない2次電池を作製する。
電荷キャリア(プロトン)密度を制御できる同種あるいは異種の有機導電材料(導電性有機材料)を利用して異なる電荷キャリア密度を有する2個の有機導電材料を準備し、それらをプロトンが拡散し得る電解質で接続するだけで、正極と負極を構成する金属や炭素等の電極を追加で使用しない、また電力を得るための補助剤あるいは部材表面加工等の必要がない充電可能な2次電池を構成する。
本発明は、以下に記載する手段を提供する。
(1)
絶縁基板と、
絶縁基板上に形成され第1の電荷キャリア(プロトン)密度を有する第1の有機導電物質からなる第1薄膜と、
絶縁基板上に第1薄膜と離間して形成され第2の電荷キャリア(プロトン)密度を有する第2の有機導電物質からなる第2薄膜と、
第1薄膜と第2薄膜とを接続するプロトンが拡散し得る電解質とからなり、
第1の電荷キャリア密度は第2の電荷キャリア密度より小さく、
第1薄膜と第2薄膜の間に負荷を接続するとプロトンが第2薄膜から第1薄膜へと前記電解質内を拡散し第1の電荷キャリア密度は増加し第2の電荷キャリア密度は減少して前記2次電池は放電し、
充電電源の正極と負極をそれぞれ前記2次電池の第1薄膜と第2薄膜とに接続するとプロトンが第1薄膜から第2薄膜へと前記電解質内を逆拡散し第1の電荷キャリア密度は減少し第2の電荷キャリア密度は増加して第1の電荷キャリア密度は第2の電荷キャリア密度より小さくなり、前記2次電池は充電することが繰り返しできる、

本発明は、以下に記載する手段を提供する。

前記第1および第2の電荷キャリア密度を有する各有機導電物質は、ゲルまたは固体の導電性を有するPEDOT(ポリエチレンジオキシチオフェン):PSS(ポリスチレンサルフォネイト)である、
ことを特徴とする(1)乃至(2)いずれかに記載の2次電池。

前記PEDOT:PSSは導電性を持たせるためエチレングルコール(EG)またはジメチルスルホキシド(DMSO)等による処理を行い電荷キャリア(プロトン)の移動度を増大させ、一方はそのままの電荷キャリア密度あるいはさらにアルカリ処理を加えて電荷キャリア密度を減少させて第1薄膜とし、他方はさらに硫酸等の酸処理によって電荷キャリア密度を増大させて第2薄膜とした、
ことを特徴とする(3)記載の2次電池。

(2)乃至(4)のいずれかに記載する2個の2次電池を導線で直列に接続した2対直列2次電池であって、
前記一方の2次電池の第1薄膜と前記他方の2次電池の第2薄膜間に負荷を接続すると前記2対直列2次電池は放電し、
充電電源をその正極と負極をそれぞれの2次電池の第1薄膜と第2薄膜に2個の2次電池が並列になるように導線で接続すると前記2対直列2次電池は充電することが繰り返しできるように構成されている、
ことを特徴とする2対直列2次電池。

(5)に記載の2次電池は、前記可とう性を有するシート状基板であって、かつ連続したシート状基板の上に作製された、
ことを特徴とする2次電池。
(2)乃至(4)のいずれかに記載する2個の2次電池を導線で直列に接続した2対直列2次電池であって、

(5)に記載の2次電池は、前記可とう性を有するシート状基板であって、かつ連続したシート状基板の上に作製された、
ことを特徴とする2次電池。
有機導電材料を電解質でつなげるだけのシンプルな構造で電池を作製することができ、金属や炭素等の電極レスの軽くフレキシブルで、補助剤や表面加工等の過程を必要としないため製造コストが低く抑えられ、かつ充電可能な電池の実用化につながる。
充放電動作機構はプロトン伝導であり、伝導キャリアとしてのプロトンは現状で最小のイオンであるリチウムイオンと比較して最小である。
すなわち、単位面積当たりの伝導キャリア数(電荷数)が大きくなることが期待でき、電池性能のひとつである単位体積当たりの発電容量が、他の有機電池に比べて大きくなる。
電荷キャリア密度を制御できる同種あるいは異種の有機導電材料を利用して異なる電荷キャリア密度を有する2個の有機導電材料を準備し、それらをプロトンが拡散し得る電解質で接続するだけで、正極と負極を構成する金属や炭素等の電極を追加で使用せず、補助剤や材料の表面加工等の過程を必要としない、充電可能な2次電池を構成する。
まず、図1を用いて本発明の電池構成概略を説明する。
図1では、有機導電材料1の電荷キャリア密度は有機導電材料2の電荷キャリア密度より小さい。
放電する場合、有機導電材料1と有機導電材料2の間に負荷を接続すると、電荷キャリア(プロトン)は電荷キャリア密度の大きい有機導電材料2から、電荷キャリア密度の小さい有機導電材料1へ向かって電解質内を電荷キャリアが拡散移動する、同時に、2次電池の有機導電材料2から導線4(右側)に電子が流出して負荷に電流が流れて電力を消費する。
その後、有機導電材料1と有機導電材料2の電荷キャリア密度に差がなくなった時に導線4を流れる電流は停止する。
充電する場合は、所定の時間、電源を有機導電材料1と有機導電材料2の間につなぎ電圧を印加し、電荷キャリア(プロトン)を電解質内において逆拡散させることで、両者間の電荷キャリア密度差を生じさせ電力が蓄えられる。
図2を用いて、上述の充放電機構についてさらに詳細に説明する。
2次電池稼働時(放電時)は、電荷キャリア密度の小さい有機導電材料1に向かって、電荷キャリア密度の大きい有機導電材料2からプロトン5がプロトン電解質3の中を拡散移動し、電子6はプロトン電解質中を移動できないため外部導線を移動すると電力が得られる。
さらに拡散移動が進み、有機導電材料1と有機導電材料2の電荷キャリア密度が等しくなった時に電荷キャリア5の拡散移動は停止して電流は流れなくなる。
2次電池の充電時は、有機導電材料1と有機導電材料2の間に充電電源をつなぎ電圧をかけると、電荷キャリア5が逆拡散し、有機導電材料1と有機導電材料2の電荷キャリア密度に差が出始める。
所定の電荷キャリア密度差ができたところで外部電源を外し負荷につなげれば、再度電池として稼働する。
本発明の2次電池を具体的に構成するには、導電性高分子材料PEDOT:PSSにエチレングルコールあるいはDMSO処理しただけの、あるいはさらにアルカリ処理を加えて電荷キャリア密度を低下させた有機導電材料と、PEDOT:PSSを酸処理して電荷キャリア密度を増大させた有機導電材料を、水溶液あるいはゲル状の電解質でつなげることで、1対で数Vレベルの電圧を得ることができる。
電荷キャリア密度の大きい有機導電材料から電荷キャリア密度の小さい方へと電解質中でプロトンが拡散移動することで電位差が生じる。
導電性高分子材料は、軽さと大面積のために膜状が望ましい。
電解質は、プロトンが存在しかつ有機導電材料を破損させない酸あれば良く、例えばポリスチレンスルホン酸(PSSH)等を用いる。
電解質の量は必要最小限でよく、液体のままでも良く、またゲル等に含ませた半固体状でも良い。
電解質にポリスチレンスルホン酸(PSSH)(液体あるいはゲル)を用い、電荷キャリア密度が異なる1対のPEDOT:PSSを用いた2次電池を作製した。
図3に示すように、この2次電池を電源に繋いで1Vまで充電し、1000Ωの抵抗をつなげて通電(放電)させる充放電サイクル試験を行った。

図3に示すように、充電電圧3Vで2~5分間の充電を行い、電圧が1Vになったところで、放電に切り替えると、5分乃至10分程度で電圧が得られなくなった。

この特性図により、本発明の2次電池は充放電可能なこと、および、数回の充放電では性能は劣化していないことを確認できた。
本発明の2次電池は金属電極等を用いないため軽くフレキシブルである。
2次電池の出力電圧を増大させるには実施例1の2次電池を直列に接続すればよい。
図4に、電圧を増大させるためにPEDOT:PSSを用いた図1に記載の2次電池2対を直列に接続した2次電池2対直列接続模式図を示す。

図4の2対直列2次電池接続模式図は電池稼働時(放電時)の接続状態を示し、左側の2次電池の導線4と、右側の2次電池の導線4は負荷に接続されている。
また、左側の2次電池の有機導電材料2は、右側の2次電池の有機導電材料1と導線7で接続されている。
また、左側の2次電池の有機導電材料2は、右側の2次電池の有機導電材料1と導線7で接続されている。
放電時、左右の2次電池の有機導電材料2から有機導電材料1へ電荷キャリアが拡散移動し、同時に、左の2次電池の有機導電材料2から導線7へおよび右の2次電池の有機導電材料2から導線4(右側)に電子が流出して負荷に電流が流れて電力が消費される。
左右の2次電池の有機導電材料1と有機導電材料2の電荷キャリア密度が等しくなった時に各2次電池中の電荷キャリアの拡散移動が停止して電流は流れなくなる。
左右の2次電池の有機導電材料1と有機導電材料2の電荷キャリア密度が等しくなった時に各2次電池中の電荷キャリアの拡散移動が停止して電流は流れなくなる。
充電時は、直列のままでは印加電圧まで充電できないため、導線7は不通とし、点線で示した導線8および導線9を用いて2対の2次電池は各々充電電源に並列に接続して充電されることが望ましい。
充電は、左右の2次電池の有機導電材料1と有機導電材料2の電荷キャリア密度が所定の差になった時に各2次電池中の電荷キャリアの逆拡散移動が停止して各2次電池に電力が蓄えられる。
以上、2対直列接続の例を示したが、3対以上の直列接続も同様に構成すればよい。
充電は、左右の2次電池の有機導電材料1と有機導電材料2の電荷キャリア密度が所定の差になった時に各2次電池中の電荷キャリアの逆拡散移動が停止して各2次電池に電力が蓄えられる。
以上、2対直列接続の例を示したが、3対以上の直列接続も同様に構成すればよい。
本発明の2次電池の作製は、液状のPEDOT:PSSをフレキシブルシート上への滴下乾燥、あるいは滴下乾燥して作製したPEDOT:PSSフリースタンディング膜をフレキシブルシート上へ貼り付ける等印刷技術により連続的に作製できるため、コストの低い軽量フレキシブル充電タイプ電池を作製できる。
人体に装着する機器(ペースメーカー、腕時計等)の電源充電用、軽量化による効果が大きい移動体用電池への展開が期待できる。

- 絶縁基板と、
絶縁基板上に形成され第1の電荷キャリア(プロトン)密度を有する第1の有機導電物質からなる第1薄膜と、
絶縁基板上に第1薄膜と離間して形成され第2の電荷キャリア(プロトン)密度を有する第2の有機導電物質からなる第2薄膜と、
第1薄膜と第2薄膜とを接続するプロトンが拡散し得る電解質とからなり、
第1の電荷キャリア密度は第2の電荷キャリア密度より小さく、
第1薄膜と第2薄膜の間に負荷を接続するとプロトンが第2薄膜から第1薄膜へと前記電解質内を拡散し第1の電荷キャリア密度は増加し第2の電荷キャリア密度は減少して前記2次電池は放電し、
充電電源の正極と負極をそれぞれ前記2次電池の第1薄膜と第2薄膜とに接続するとプロトンが第1薄膜から第2薄膜へと前記電解質内を逆拡散し第1の電荷キャリア密度は減少し第2の電荷キャリア密度は増加して第1の電荷キャリア密度は第2の電荷キャリア密度より小さくなり、前記2次電池は充電することが繰り返しできる、
ことを特徴とする2次電池。 - 前記絶縁基板は可とう性を有するシート状である、
