Abstract

内視鏡装置は、通常光画像を取得する通常光画像取得部と、特殊光画像を取得する特殊光画像取得部と、通常光画像を構成する複数の色成分画像の内の一の色成分画像と特殊光画像とを合成してブレンド画像を生成するブレンド画像生成部(421)と、ブレンド画像と他の色成分画像とを合成してカラーの重畳画像を生成する重畳画像生成部(422)とを備え、ブレンド画像生成部(421)は、ブレンド画像の全体にわたって一の色成分画像の画素および特殊光画像の画素の分布が略均一となるように一の色成分画像の画素の内の一部の画素を特殊光画像の対応する画素に置換することによってブレンド画像を生成する。

Description

内視鏡装置
 本発明は、内視鏡装置に関するものである。
 従来、白色光画像のような通常光画像と、蛍光画像のような特殊光画像とを取得し、通常光画像と特殊光画像とを重畳表示する内視鏡装置が知られている(例えば、特許文献1,2参照。)。通常光画像と特殊光画像とを重畳する方法として、特許文献1では、通常光画像を構成するR、G、Bの3色の色成分画像の内の1つに特殊光画像を加算しており、特許文献2では、特殊光画像から高い階調値を有する注目領域を抽出し、抽出された注目領域を通常光画像に加算している。

 しかしながら、特許文献1の重畳方法を用いた場合、蛍光画像の階調値が一の色成分画像の階調値に加算されて該一の色成分画像の階調値が底上げされることによって、重畳画像の色調が全体的に、特殊光画像を重畳した成分画像の色に偏り、重畳画像の色調が通常光画像の色調とは異なってしまうという問題がある。さらに、蛍光画像はSN比が低いことが多く、蛍光画像のノイズがそのまま重畳画像に反映されてしまうという問題がある。
 特許文献2の重畳方法を用いた場合、注目領域の内、抽出基準を満たさない比較的低い階調値を有するものは、観察者にとって注目すべき領域であるにも関わらず、特殊光画像から抽出されずに重畳画像には表示されない可能性がある。
 本発明は、上述した事情に鑑みてなされたものであって、色調の変化およびノイズが少なく、かつ、特殊光画像内の全ての注目領域が表示された重畳画像を生成することができる内視鏡装置を提供することを目的とする。
 上記目的を達成するため、本発明は以下の手段を提供する。
 本発明は、広帯域の可視光が照射された被写体を撮影して通常光画像を取得する通常光画像取得部と、狭帯域の特殊光が照射された前記被写体を撮影して特殊光画像を取得する特殊光画像取得部と、前記通常光画像を構成する複数の色成分画像の内の一の色成分画像と前記特殊光画像とを合成してブレンド画像を生成するブレンド画像生成部と、該ブレンド画像生成部によって生成された前記ブレンド画像と、前記複数の色成分画像の内の他の色成分画像とを合成することによって、カラーの重畳画像を生成する重畳画像生成部とを備え、前記ブレンド画像生成部は、前記一の色成分画像の画素の内の一部の画素を選択し、選択された一部の画素を前記特殊光画像の対応する画素に置換することによって前記ブレンド画像を生成するとともに、前記ブレンド画像の全体にわたって前記一の色成分画像の画素および前記特殊光画像の画素の分布が略均一となるように、前記一の色成分画像の一部の画素を前記特殊光画像の画素に置換する内視鏡装置を提供する。
 本発明によれば、通常光画像取得部によって取得されたカラーの通常光画像は、一の色成分画像と他の色成分画像とに分離され、一の色成分画像が特殊光画像取得部によって取得された特殊光画像と合成されることによってブレンド画像が生成される。生成されたブレンド画像は、重畳画像生成部によって他の色成分画像と色合成される。これにより、特殊光画像を通常光画像に重畳した重畳画像が得られる。
 この場合に、特殊光画像は、一部の領域のみを抽出する処理を施されることなく、全体が略均一にブレンド画像に合成される。したがって、特殊光画像の内、階調値を有する全ての注目領域を重畳画像に表示させることができる。さらに、ブレンド画像において一の色成分画像の画素と特殊光画像の画素とをそのまま混在させることによって、一の色成分画像に対するブレンド画像の階調値の変化が低減され、かつ、特殊光画像に含まれていたノイズがブレンド画像においては低減される。これにより、通常光画像に対して色調の変化およびノイズが少ない重畳画像を生成することができる。
 上記発明においては、前記ブレンド画像生成部は、前記一の色成分画像の画素および前記特殊光画像の画素が1画素単位または複数の画素単位からなる最小繰り返し単位で行方向および列方向に交互に配列されるように前記ブレンド画像における前記一の色成分画像の画素および前記特殊光画像の画素の配列を規定したブレンドパターンを有し、該ブレンドパターンにおける前記特殊光画像の画素の配列に従って前記一の色成分画像から選択した前記一部の画素を前記特殊光画像の画素に置換してもよい。
 このようにすることで、色調の維持効果およびノイズの低減効果を安定的に得ることができる。
 上記発明においては、前記ブレンドパターンは、前記行方向における前記最小繰り返し単位と前記列方向における前記最小繰り返し単位とが互いに異なる周期配列パターンであるであってもよい。
 このようにすることで、重畳画像の内、特殊光画像において高い階調値を有する注目領域には、周期配列パターンに相当する模様が、特殊光画像と合成された一の色成分画像の色で表示される。この模様によって注目領域の識別性を向上することができる。
 上記発明においては、前記ブレンドパターンは、前記行方向における前記最小繰り返し単位と前記列方向における前記最小繰り返し単位とが互いに等しい正方格子配列パターンである正方格子配列パターンであってもよい。
 このようにすることで、色調の変化およびノイズがさらに低減された重畳画像を得ることができる。
 上記発明においては、前記ブレンドパターンを設定するブレンドパターン設定部を備え、前記ブレンド画像生成部が、前記ブレンドパターン設定部によって設定されたブレンドパターンに従って前記ブレンド画像を生成してもよい。
 このようにすることで、ブレンド画像の生成に使用するブレンドパターンをブレンドパターン設定部によって変更することができる。
 上記発明においては、前記特殊光画像の明るさのコントラストを測定するコントラスト測定部を備え、前記ブレンドパターン設定部が、前記コントラスト測定部によって測定されたコントラストに基づいて、該コントラストが低い程、前記ブレンドパターンにおける前記最小繰り返し単位を構成する画素数が多くなるように、前記ブレンドパターンを設定してもよい。
 注目領域の階調値が低く特殊光画像の明るさのコントラストが低い場合、重畳画像において注目領域の識別性が低くなる。そこで、ブレンドパターンの最小繰り返し単位を構成する画素数を増大し、ブレンド画像における注目領域の模様を大きくすることによって、階調値が低い注目領域の識別性を向上することができる。
 上記発明においては、前記特殊光画像の明るさを測定する明るさ測定部を備え、前記ブレンドパターン設定部が、前記明るさ測定部によって測定された明るさに基づいて、該明るさが低い程、前記ブレンドパターンにおける前記最小繰り返し単位を構成する画素数が多くなるように、前記ブレンドパターンを設定してもよい。
 特殊光画像が暗い場合、重畳画像において注目領域の識別性が低くなる。そこで、ブレンドパターンの最小繰り返し単位を構成する画素数を増大し、ブレンド画像における注目領域の模様を大きくすることによって、階調値が低い注目領域の識別性を向上することができる。
 上記発明においては、前記特殊光画像の明るさを測定する明るさ測定部と、該明るさ測定部によって測定された明るさに基づいて前記特殊光画像の明るさを調整する明るさ調整部とを備え、前記ブレンド画像生成部が、前記明るさ調整部によって明るさが調整された特殊光画像を用いて前記ブレンド画像を生成してもよい。
 特殊光画像の明るさと一の色成分画像の明るさとの差異が大きい場合、通常光画像の色調と重畳画像の色調との差異が大きくなる。そこで、特殊光画像の明るさを調整することによって、通常光画像の色調により近い色調を有する重畳画像を生成することができる。
 本発明によれば、色調の変化およびノイズが少なく、かつ、特殊光画像内の全ての注目領域が表示された重畳画像を生成することができるという効果を奏する。

(第1の実施形態)
 本発明の第1の実施形態に係る内視鏡装置1について図1から図5を参照して説明する。
 本実施形態に係る内視鏡装置1は、図1に示されるように、通常光および励起光(特殊光)を出力する光源ユニット2と、体内に挿入可能であり、体内の生体組織Sに通常光および励起光を照射して生体組織Sの画像信号を取得する挿入部3と、該挿入部3によって取得された画像信号から画像を生成するプロセッサ4と、該プロセッサ4によって生成された画像を表示する表示部5とを備えてる。
 光源ユニット2は、白色光のような広帯域光を発する光源21と、該光源21から発せられた光の内、通常光および励起光を択一的に透過させるフィルタユニット22と、該フィルタユニット22を透過した通常光または励起光を収束させるカップリングレンズ23とを備えている。フィルタユニット22は、広帯域の可視光である通常光を選択的に透過させる通常光フィルタと、狭帯域の励起光を選択的に透過させる励起光フィルタとを有するターレットを備えている。フィルタユニット22は、後述するタイミング制御部44による制御に従ってターレットを回転させて通常光フィルタおよび励起光フィルタを交互に光源21の出力光軸上に配置する。これにより、光源ユニット2からは通常光と励起光とが交互に出力されるようになっている。
 挿入部3は、光源ユニット2から出力された通常光および励起光を挿入部3の先端3aから生体組織(被写体)Sに向けて照射する照明ユニット6と、挿入部3の先端3aに設けられ、生体組織Sを撮影する撮像ユニット7とを備えている。
 照明ユニット6は、挿入部3の長手方向のほぼ全長にわたって配置されたライトガイドファイバ61と、挿入部3の先端3aに設けられた照明光学系62とを備えている。ライトガイドファイバ61は、カップリングレンズ23によって収束された光をその基端から先端まで導光する。照明光学系62は、ライトガイドファイバ61の先端から射出した通常光および励起光を拡散させ、挿入部3の先端3aに対向する生体組織Sに照射する。
 撮像ユニット7は、生体組織Sからの光を集める対物レンズ71と、該対物レンズ71によって集められた光を収束させる収束レンズ72と、収束レンズ72によって収束された光を撮影する撮像素子73とを備えている。符号74は、励起光を遮断し、他の波長域の光を透過させる励起光カットフィルタである。
 撮像素子73は、例えば、カラーCCDまたはカラーCMOSである。撮像素子73は、対物レンズ71から入射した光を受光し、受光した光を光電変換して画像信号を生成し、生成された画像信号をプロセッサ4へ送信する。
 プロセッサ4は、撮像素子73から受信した画像信号を一時的に保持するデータバッファ41と、該データバッファ41から受信した画像信号を処理して重畳画像を生成する画像処理ユニット42と、該画像処理ユニット42から出力された重畳画像を一時的に保持する表示画像バッファ43と、各バッファ41,43、画像処理ユニット42、フィルタユニット22および撮像素子73の動作を同期させるタイミング制御部44とを備えている。符号45は、撮像素子73から出力された画像信号を増幅する増幅器であり、符号46は、利得制御器(AGC)であり、符号47は、アナログ信号の画像信号をデジタル信号の画像信号へ変換するAD変換器であり、符号48は、表示画像バッファ43から出力された重畳画像のデジタル信号の画像信号をアナログ信号の画像信号へ変換するDA変換器である。
 タイミング制御部44は、光源21の出力光軸上に通常光フィルタが配置されて生体組織Sに通常光が照射されているときに撮像素子73に通常光の露光を実行させ、光源21の出力光軸上に励起光フィルタが配置されて生体組織Sに励起光が照射されているときに撮像素子73に蛍光の露光を実行させることによって、通常光画像信号および蛍光画像信号を交互に撮像素子73に取得させる。
 データバッファ41は、撮像素子73から受信した通常光画像信号および蛍光画像信号を一時的に保持し、一対の通常光画像信号および蛍光画像信号を画像処理ユニット42に送信する。
 画像処理ユニット42は、図2に示されるように、ブレンド画像生成部421と、重畳画像生成部422とを備えている。図3は、画像処理ユニット42による、通常光画像および蛍光画像からの重畳画像の生成過程を示している。広帯域の通常光を撮影して取得された通常光画像信号は、3色の画像信号、すなわち赤(R)画像信号、緑(G)画像信号および青(B)画像信号から構成されている。データバッファ41は、G画像信号および蛍光画像信号をブレンド画像生成部421に送信し、R画像信号およびB画像信号を重畳画像生成部422に送信する。
 ブレンド画像生成部421は、データバッファ41から受信したG画像信号からG成分画像を生成し、蛍光画像信号から蛍光画像を生成する。G成分画像および蛍光画像は、行列状に2次元配列した多数の画素からなる。
 ブレンド画像生成部421は、G成分画像の全画素の中から一部の画素をランダムに選択する。ただし、ブレンド画像生成部421は、G成分画像内において選択される画素の位置に偏りが生じないように、G成分画像の全体から略均等に画素を選択する。次に、ブレンド画像生成部421は、選択された画素の各々を、その画素と同一の位置の蛍光画像内の画素に置換する。これにより、図4に示されるように、G成分画像の画素と蛍光画像の画素とが、ブレンド画像の全体にわたって略均一な分布で混在するブレンド画像が生成される。図4において、「N」は通常光画像の画素を示し、「F」は蛍光画像の画素を示している。ブレンド画像生成部421は、生成されたブレンド画像を重畳画像生成部422へ送信する。
 重畳画像生成部422は、ブレンド画像生成部421から受信したブレンド画像をG成分画像の代わりとして用い、ブレンド画像とデータバッファ41から受信したR成分画像およびB成分画像とをカラー合成することによって、カラーの重畳画像を生成する。重畳画像生成部422は、生成した重畳画像を表示画像バッファ43へ送信する。
 表示画像バッファ43は、重畳画像生成部422から受信した重畳画像を一時的に保持し、重畳画像を一定の時間間隔を空けてDA変換器48を介して表示部5へ出力する。
 次に、このように構成された内視鏡装置1の作用について説明する。
 本実施形態に係る内視鏡装置1を用いて生体組織Sを観察するには、予め、例えば病変部に集積する蛍光物質を生体組織Sに投与しておく。
 まず、体内に挿入部3を挿入して先端3aを生体組織Sに対向配置し、光源ユニット2の作動によって通常光および励起光を交互に挿入部3の先端3aから生体組織Sに照射する。
 生体組織Sに通常光が照射されると、生体組織Sの表面において反射された通常光が対物レンズ71によって集められる。対物レンズ71によって集められた通常光は、収束レンズ72によって撮像素子73の撮像面に収束され、該撮像素子73によって通常光画像信号として取得される。
 一方、生体組織Sに励起光が照射されると、病変部に含まれる蛍光物質が励起光によって励起されて蛍光が発生し、蛍光および励起光の一部が対物レンズ71によって集められる。対物レンズ71によって集められた蛍光および励起光は、励起光カットフィルタ74において蛍光のみが抽出される。抽出された蛍光は、収束レンズ72によって撮像素子73の撮像面に収束されて、該撮像素子73によって蛍光画像信号として取得される。以上のようにして撮像素子73によって交互に取得される通常光画像信号および蛍光画像信号は、プロセッサ4に送信される。
 プロセッサ4において、通常光画像信号および蛍光画像信号は、増幅器45、AGC46およびAD変換器47を介してデータバッファ41へ入力され、一対の通常光画像信号および蛍光画像信号がデータバッファ41から画像処理ユニット42へ入力される。このときに、通常光画像は、G画像信号と、R画像信号およびB画像信号とに分離され、G画像信号は蛍光画像信号と一緒にブレンド画像生成部421へ入力され、R画像信号およびB画像信号は重畳画像生成部422へ入力される。
 ブレンド画像生成部421においては、G成分画像の内、一部の画素を蛍光画像の画素に置換することによって、G成分画像の画素と蛍光画像の画素とが全体にわたって略均一な分布でブレンドされたブレンド画像が生成される。ブレンド画像には、G成分画像内の生体組織Sの像と、蛍光画像内の蛍光の像との両方が含まれる。生成されたブレンド画像は、重畳画像生成部422においてR成分画像およびB成分画像とカラー合成されて、重畳画像が生成される。生成された重畳画像は、所定の時間間隔を空けて順番に表示画像バッファ43からDA変換器48を介して表示部5に出力される。これにより、表示部5には、重畳画像がライブ動画として表示される。
 この場合に、本実施形態によれば、ブレンド画像は、G成分画像の画素と蛍光画像の画素とが、ブレンド画像全体にわたって略均一な分布で混在するようにブレンドされた画像であり、蛍光画像は、階調値に依らずに全体が略均一にブレンド画像に合成される。したがって、蛍光領域の内、十分に高い階調値を有する蛍光領域のみならず、比較的低い階調値を有する蛍光領域もブレンド画像に合成される。これにより、観察者にとって注目すべき蛍光領域の全てが表示された重畳画像を生成することができるという利点がある。
 さらに、ブレンド画像の各画素の階調値は、G色成分画像の画素の階調値または蛍光画像の画素の階調値そのものである。このようなブレンド画像を使用してカラー合成した重畳画像において、通常光画像の色調と略同一の色調を再現することができるという利点がある。さらに、蛍光画像のSN比が低く蛍光画像がノイズを含んでいたとしても、蛍光画像の画素とノイズの無いG成分画像の画素とをブレンドすることによって、ブレンド画像においてはノイズが低減される。これにより、ノイズの少ない重畳画像を得ることができるという利点がある。
 なお、本実施形態においては、ブレンド画像生成部421が、図5に示されるように、G成分画像を所定の数の画素からなる小領域に分割し、蛍光画像の画素に置換する画素を各小領域において所定の数だけランダムに選択してもよい。図5の例において、小領域は4画素×4画素からなり、各小領域において8個の「N」が「F」に置換されている。このようにすることで、「N」の画素および「F」の画素が全体にわたってさらに均一に分布するブレンド画像を生成することができる。この場合、ブレンド像生成部421は、「F」に置換する画素を小領域毎に決定してもよいが、これに代えて、小領域を構成する画素の配列の中から「F」に置換する画素をランダムに選択することによってパターンを決定し、決定した同一のパターンを全ての小領域に適用してもよい。この場合、ブレンド画像においては、「N」および「F」の同一の配列を有する小領域が行方向および列方向に繰り返されることになる。
(第2の実施形態)
 次に、本発明の第2の実施形態に係る内視鏡装置について図6を参照して説明する。
 本実施形態に係る内視鏡装置は、ブレンド画像生成部(ブレンドパターン設定部)421が、G成分画像の画素の内、蛍光画像の画素に置換する画素をランダムに選択するのではなく、所定のブレンドパターンに従って選択する点で、第1の実施形態と異なる。
 ブレンド画像生成部421には、G成分画像の画素「N」と蛍光画像の画素「F」の配列を規定したブレンドパターンが記憶されている。ブレンドパターンは、図6に示されるように、「N」および「F」が、1画素単位で交互に行方向および列方向に市松模様状に配列した正方格子配列パターンである。ブレンド画像生成部421は、G成分画像の全画素の内、ブレンドパターンの「F」に対応する画素を蛍光画像の画素に置換することによって、ブレンド画像を生成する。
 本実施形態のその他の構成は、第1の実施形態と同様である。
 本実施形態によれば、G成分画像の画素「N」と蛍光画像の画素「F」とを1画素単位で正方格子配列することによって、蛍光画像に含まれるノイズがブレンド画像においては効果的に低減される。これにより、ノイズがさらに少ない重畳画像を生成することができるという利点がある。さらに、G成分画像の画素「N」がより均一に分布するブレンド画像を用いてカラー合成した重畳画像においては、通常光画像の色調にさらに近い色調を再現することができるという利点がある。
 なお、本実施形態においては、「N」および「F」が1画素単位で市松模様状に配列した正方格子配列パターンについて説明したが、「N」および「F」が、正方配列した複数の画素単位で市松模様状に配列した正方格子配列パターンを用いてもよい。例えば、2画素×2画素の正方配列を有する4画素の「N」と、2画素×2画素の正方配列を有する4画素の「F」とが、行方向および列方向に交互に配列していてもよい。
(第3の実施形態)
 次に、本発明の第3の実施形態に係る内視鏡装置について図7および図8を参照して説明する。
 本実施形態に係る内視鏡装置は、ブレンド画像生成部421が、蛍光画像の画素に置換する画素を所定のブレンドパターンに従って選択する点で第2の実施形態と共通しているが、ブレンドパターンが第2の実施形態とは異なる。
 本実施形態において、ブレンドパターンは、図7に示されるように、「N」および「F」が、1画素または数画素の任意の単位で行方向および列方向に交互に周期的に配列した周期配列パターンである。このブレンドパターンにおいて、行方向における「N」および「F」の交互周期と、列方向における「N」および「F」の交互周期とは、互いに異なっている。図7の例において、行方向には3個の「N」と1個の「F」とが交互に配列し、列方向には1個の「N」と1個の「F」とが交互に配列している。したがって、交互周期、すなわち「N」と「F」の最小繰り返し単位が、行方向においては4個であり、列方向においては2個となっている。また、ブレンドパターンの最小繰り返し単位において、「F」の数が「N」の数以上となっている。最小繰り返し単位における「F」の数が「N」の数未満である場合、重畳画像において蛍光領域を目立たせる効果(後述)が低下する。
 このようなブレンドパターンに従って生成されたブレンド画像を使用して重畳画像を生成した場合、重畳画像には、ブレンドパターンにおける「F」の配列に対応する周期的な模様が緑色で表示される。特に、ブレンド画像が高い階調値を有する蛍光領域において緑色の模様が鮮明となる。したがって、蛍光領域の全体が均一な緑色で表示される場合と比べて、重畳画像における蛍光領域の識別性を向上することができる。一方、蛍光領域以外の領域においては、ブレンド画像の階調値が低いため、緑色の模様は視認できない程度に不鮮明となる。
 本実施形態においては、重畳画像においてパターンが動的に変化するように、ブレンド画像生成部421において使用するブレンドパターンを継時的に変化させてもよい。
 具体的には、図8に示されるように、データバッファ41からブレンド画像生成部421に入力される画像の数をカウントするフレームカウンタ423がさらに設けられる。ブレンド画像生成部421には複数種類のブレンドパターンが記憶されており、ブレンド画像生成部421は、フレームカウンタ423によるカウント数に従って、ブレンド画像の生成に使用するブレンドパターンを変更するようになっている。例えば、ブレンド画像生成部421は、カウント数が偶数のときには第1のパターンを使用し、カウント数が奇数のときには第1のパターンとは異なる第2のパターンを使用する。これにより、重畳画像の蛍光領域に表示される緑色の模様が動的に変化するので、蛍光領域の識別性をさらに向上することができる。
(第4の実施形態)
 次に、本発明の第4の実施形態に係る内視鏡装置について図9から図11を参照して説明する。
 本実施形態に係る内視鏡装置は、図9に示されるように、パターンサイズ調整部(ブレンドパターン設定部)424をさらに備える点で、第1の実施形態と異なっている。
 本実施形態においても、ブレンド画像生成部421は、第2の実施形態と同様に、蛍光画像の画素に置換する画素を所定のブレンドパターンに従って選択する。ただし、本実施形態において、ブレンド画像生成部421には、パターンサイズの異なる同一パターンの複数のブレンドパターンが記憶されている。
 具体的には、ブレンド画像生成部421には、図10に示されるように、「N」および「F」の正方格子配列パターンからなり、最小繰り返し単位の画素数が互いに異なる複数のブレンドパターンが記憶されている。例えば、一のブレンドパターンでは、図10の左図のように、「N」および「F」が1画素単位で行方向および列方向に交互に配列しており、最小繰り返し単位が4画素となっている。他のブレンドパターンでは、図10の右図のように、2画素×2画素の正方配列を有する4画素の「N」と、2画素×2画素の正方配列を有する4画素の「F」とが、行方向および列方向に交互に配列しており、最小繰り返し単位が16画素となっている。
 パターンサイズ調整部424は、図示しない入力装置を使用して観察者がパターンサイズを入力可能となっている。パターンサイズは、ブレンドパターンにおける最小繰り返し単位の画素数に相当し、例えば、「2×2」または「4×4」のようにパターンサイズを指定することができるようになっている。
 ブレンド画像生成部421は、パターンサイズ調整部424に対して指定されたパターンサイズのブレンドパターンを選択し、選択したブレンドパターンを使用してブレンド画像を生成する。
 本実施形態のその他の構成は、第1の実施形態と同様である。
 重畳画像には、ブレンドパターンにおける「F」の配列に対応する市松模様が緑色で表示される。本実施形態によれば、パターンサイズを大きくことによってこの市松模様のサイズを大きくし、重畳画像における蛍光領域の識別性を向上することができる。一方、市松模様が視認できない程度まで、すなわち均一な緑色に見える程度までパターンサイズを小さく設定した場合には、重畳画像において蛍光領域を自然に表示することができる。このように、観察者の要求に応じて、蛍光領域の識別性を調整することができるという利点がある。
 なお、本実施形態においては、ブレンドパターンとして、正方格子配列パターンではなく、第3の実施形態で説明したような周期配列パターンを採用してもよい。
 また、本実施形態においては、図11に示されるように、蛍光画像の明るさのコントラストを測定するコントラスト測定部425をさらに備え、パターンサイズ調整部424が、コントラスト測定部425によって測定されたコントラストに基づいてパターンサイズを自動的に決定してもよい。
 コントラスト測定部425は、例えば、蛍光画像の階調値のヒストグラムの幅に基づいて蛍光画像のコントラストを測定する。蛍光画像における蛍光領域の階調値が高い場合には、蛍光領域と非蛍光領域との間の明るさのコントラストが高くなり、ヒストグラムの幅が大きくなる。一方、蛍光画像における蛍光領域の階調値が低い場合には、蛍光領域と非蛍光領域との間の明るさのコントラストが低くなり、ヒストグラムの幅が小さくなる。
 パターンサイズ調整部424は、蛍光画像のコントラストが低い程、パターンサイズを大きく設定する。
 蛍光画像における蛍光領域の階調値が低い場合、重畳画像における蛍光領域の識別性が低くなる。本変形例によれば、蛍光画像の明るさのコントラストが低い場合には、自動的に大きなパターンサイズへ変更され、重畳画像における蛍光領域の識別性が高められる。このように、蛍光画像の明るさのコントラストに基づいてパターンサイズを変更することによって、重畳画像における蛍光領域の識別性を最適に自動調整することができる。
 また、本実施形態においては、ブレンドパターンのパターンサイズをブレンド画像全体において一律に変更することとしたが、これに代えて、ブレンド画像の領域毎にパターンサイズを決定してもよい。
 例えば、蛍光画像の内、階調値が所定の閾値未満である領域には、階調値が所定の閾値以上である領域におけるパターンサイズよりも大きなパターンサイズを適用してもよい。このようにすることで、重畳画像において、暗く識別性の低い蛍光領域に対しては大きな模様を表示させて識別性を向上することができる。
 また、本実施形態においては、コントラスト測定部425に代えて、蛍光画像の明るさを測定する明るさ測定部(図示略)を備え、パターンサイズ調整部424が、明るさ測定部によって測定された蛍光画像の明るさに基づいてパターンサイズを調整してもよい。
 明るさ測定部は、例えば、蛍光画像の全画素の階調値の平均値を蛍光画像の明るさとして算出する。パターンサイズ調整部424は、明るさ測定部によって測定された蛍光画像の明るさが低い程、大きなパターンサイズに設定する。このようにすることで、蛍光画像が暗い場合には重畳画像に表示される模様が大きくなることによって、重畳画像における蛍光領域の識別性を向上することができる。
(第5の実施形態)
 次に、本発明の第5の実施形態に係る内視鏡装置について図12を参照して説明する。
 本実施形態に係る内視鏡装置は、上述した第1から第4の実施形態を変形したものであり、図12に示されるように、蛍光画像の明るさを測定する明るさ測定部426と、明るさ測定部426によって測定された蛍光画像の明るさに基づいて、当該蛍光画像の明るさを調整する明るさ調整部427とをさらに備える。図12には、第1の実施形態における画像処理ユニット42に明るさ測定部426および明るさ調整部427を追加した構成を例示している。
 明るさ調整部427は、蛍光画像の明るさがG成分画像の明るさと同等になるように、例えば、蛍光画像の全ての画素の階調値に、当該蛍光画像の明るさに基づいて算出された値を加算することによって、蛍光画像の明るさを増大させる。
 本実施形態において、ブレンド画像生成部421は、明るさ調整部427によって明るさが調整された蛍光画像を使用してブレンド画像を生成する。
 G成分画像の明るさと蛍光画像の明るさとの差異が大きい程、重畳画像の色調は、通常光画像の色調とは異なったものとなる。本実施形態によれば、G成分画像と同等の明るさを有するように明るさが調整された蛍光画像を使用してブレンド画像を生成することによって、重畳画像の色調を通常光画像の色調にさらに近付けることができる。
 なお、上述した第1から第5の実施形態においては、通常光と励起光とを交互に生体組織Sに照射し、単一の撮像素子73を用いて通常光画像信号と蛍光画像信号とを交互に取得することとしたが、これに代えて、通常光と励起光とを同時に生体組織Sに照射し、通常光画像信号と蛍光画像信号とを同時に取得してもよい。この場合には、図13に示されるように、撮像ユニット7が、もう1つの撮像素子75と、対物レンズ71によって集められた光を2つに分割して撮像素子(通常光画像取得部)73と撮像素子(特殊光画像取得部)75とに分配するビームスプリッタ76とをさらに備える。
 また、上述した第1から第5の実施形態においては、蛍光領域が重畳画像において緑色で表示されるように蛍光画像をG成分画像とブレンドすることとしたが、蛍光画像をブレンドする画像は、R成分画像またはB成分画像であってもよい。
 また、上述した第1から第5の実施形態においては、特殊光および特殊光画像の一例として、蛍光物質を励起する励起光および蛍光画像について説明したが、特殊光および特殊光画像の種類はこれに限定されるものではない。例えば、赤外光を使用して赤外光画像を取得してもよく、青色狭帯域光および緑色狭帯域光を使用してNBI画像を取得してもよい。

Claims (8)

  1.  広帯域の可視光が照射された被写体を撮影して通常光画像を取得する通常光画像取得部と、
     狭帯域の特殊光が照射された前記被写体を撮影して特殊光画像を取得する特殊光画像取得部と、
     前記通常光画像を構成する複数の色成分画像の内の一の色成分画像と前記特殊光画像とを合成してブレンド画像を生成するブレンド画像生成部と、
     該ブレンド画像生成部によって生成された前記ブレンド画像と、前記複数の色成分画像の内の他の色成分画像とを合成することによって、カラーの重畳画像を生成する重畳画像生成部とを備え、
     前記ブレンド画像生成部は、前記一の色成分画像の画素の内の一部の画素を選択し、選択された一部の画素を前記特殊光画像の対応する画素に置換することによって前記ブレンド画像を生成するとともに、前記ブレンド画像の全体にわたって前記一の色成分画像の画素および前記特殊光画像の画素の分布が略均一となるように、前記一の色成分画像の一部の画素を前記特殊光画像の画素に置換する内視鏡装置。
  2.  前記ブレンド画像生成部は、前記一の色成分画像の画素および前記特殊光画像の画素が1画素単位または複数の画素単位からなる最小繰り返し単位で行方向および列方向に交互に配列されるように前記一の色成分画像の画素および前記特殊光画像の画素の配列を規定したブレンドパターンを有し、該ブレンドパターンにおける前記特殊光画像の画素の配列に従って前記一の色成分画像から選択した前記一部の画素を前記特殊光画像の画素に置換する請求項1に記載の内視鏡装置。
  3.  前記ブレンドパターンは、前記行方向における前記最小繰り返し単位と前記列方向における前記最小繰り返し単位とが互いに異なる周期配列パターンである請求項2に記載の内視鏡装置。
  4.  前記ブレンドパターンは、前記行方向における前記最小繰り返し単位と前記列方向における前記最小繰り返し単位とが互いに等しい正方格子配列パターンである請求項2に記載の内視鏡装置。
  5.  前記ブレンドパターンを設定するブレンドパターン設定部を備え、
     前記ブレンド画像生成部が、前記ブレンドパターン設定部によって設定されたブレンドパターンに従って前記ブレンド画像を生成する請求項2から請求項4のいずれかに記載の内視鏡装置。
  6.  前記特殊光画像の明るさのコントラストを測定するコントラスト測定部を備え、
     前記ブレンドパターン設定部が、前記コントラスト測定部によって測定されたコントラストに基づいて、該コントラストが低い程、前記ブレンドパターンにおける前記最小繰り返し単位を構成する画素数が多くなるように、前記ブレンドパターンを設定する請求項5に記載の内視鏡装置。
  7.  前記特殊光画像の明るさを測定する明るさ測定部を備え、
     前記ブレンドパターン設定部が、前記明るさ測定部によって測定された明るさに基づいて、該明るさが低い程、前記ブレンドパターンにおける前記最小繰り返し単位を構成する画素数が多くなるように、前記ブレンドパターンを設定する請求項5に記載の内視鏡装置。
  8.  前記特殊光画像の明るさを測定する明るさ測定部と、
     該明るさ測定部によって測定された明るさに基づいて前記特殊光画像の明るさを調整する明るさ調整部とを備え、
     前記ブレンド画像生成部が、前記明るさ調整部によって明るさが調整された特殊光画像を用いて前記ブレンド画像を生成する請求項1から請求項6のいずれかに記載の内視鏡装置。
