Abstract
Description
かかる垂直配向方式の液晶表示素子(PSA(Polymer Sustained Alignment)型液晶ディスプレイ等)では、予め液晶組成物中に光重合性化合物を添加し、ポリイミド等の垂直配向膜と共に用いて、液晶セルに電圧を印加しながら紫外線を照射することで、液晶の応答速度を速くする技術が知られている(特許文献1及び非特許文献1参照)。
また、光重合性化合物を液晶組成物中ではなく、液晶配向膜中に添加することによっても、液晶表示素子の応答速度が速くなることが報告されている(SC-PVA型液晶ディスプレイ)(非特許文献2参照)。
本発明の目的は、上述した従来技術の問題点を解決することにある。
1.下記式(1)で表される重合性化合物と、ポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体とを含有する液晶配向剤。
3.前記重合性化合物(1)において、X1とX2のいずれか一方がエーテル結合であり他方がエステル結合であるか、X1がカルボニル側でS1と結合するエステル結合であり、X2が酸素原子側でS2と結合するエステル基である上記1又は2に記載の液晶配向剤。
4.ポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体が、液晶を垂直に配向させる側鎖を有する、上記1~3のいずれかに記載の液晶配向剤。
5.ポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体が、さらに光反応性の側鎖を有する、上記1~4のいずれかに記載の液晶配向剤。
6.上記1~5のいずれかに記載の液晶配向剤を用いてなる液晶配向膜。
7.上記6に記載の液晶配向膜を有する液晶表示素子。
液晶配向剤及び液晶層の少なくとも一方に、式(1)で表される重合性化合物を含有させることを特徴とする、液晶表示素子の製造方法。
10.前記重合性化合物(1)において、X1とX2のいずれか一方がエーテル結合であり、他方がエステル結合であるか、X1がカルボニル側でS1と結合するエステル結合であり、X2が酸素原子側でS2と結合するエステル基である上記8又は9記載の製造方法。
11.ポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体が、液晶を垂直に配向させる側鎖を有する、上記8~10のいずれかに記載の製造方法。
12.ポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体が、さらに光反応性の側鎖を有する、上記8~11のいずれかに記載の製造方法。
15.式(1)中、X1とX2のいずれか一方がエーテル結合であり、他方がエステル結合であるか、X1がカルボニル側でS1と結合するエステル結合であり、X2が酸素原子側でS2と結合するエステル基である、上記13又は14に記載の重合性化合物。
本発明の液晶配向剤に含有される重合性化合物は、下記式(1)で表される。
方法2としては、具体的には、X1とX2のいずれか一方をエーテル結合とし、他方をエステル結合とする方法(方法2-1)、X1をカルボニル側でS1と結合するエステル結合とし、X2を酸素原子側でS2と結合するエステル基とする方法(方法2-2)が挙げられる。
このような化合物のうち、互いに異なる炭素数を有するアルキレン基を有する化合物は、国際特許出願公開WO2012/002513号公報に記載の製造方法で得ることができる。また、一方をエーテル結合、他方をエステル結合にしたい場合は、国際特許出願公開WO2012/002513号公報に記載の製造方法において、原料としてビスフェノールの代わりに、4-(4-ヒドロキシフェニル)安息香酸を用いて製造すればよい。
上記の方法1及び方法2から選ばれる少なくとも1つの方法を選択することにより、重合性化合物の溶解性が向上するとともに、AC由来の残像特性が、方法3や方法4を選択した場合に比べて優れることがわかった。この理由は明らかではないが、AC由来の残像特性には、重合性化合物の環構造のスタッキングが原因と考えられているが、方法1又は方法2を選んだ場合は、方法3や方法4を選択した場合に比べて、スタッキングが阻害されないためと考えられる。
液晶配向剤及び/又は液晶層に含有させて形成される液晶表示素子において、好適に用いられるポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体(以下、特定重合体とも言う。)としては、液晶配向剤として使用される、公知であるポリイミド前駆体又はポリイミドを用いることができる。なお、ポリイミド前駆体とは、具体的には、ポリアミック酸及びポリアミック酸エステルが含まれる。
液晶を垂直に配向させる側鎖(I)(以下、側鎖Aともいう。)は、液晶分子を基板に対して垂直に配向させる能力を有する側鎖であり、この能力を有していれば、その構造は限定されない。かかる側鎖としては、例えば、長鎖のアルキル基、フルオロアルキル基、末端にアルキル基やフルオロアルキル基を有する環状基、ステロイド基などが知られており、本発明においても好適に用いられる。これらの基は、上記の能力を有している限りにおいて、特定重合体の主鎖に直接結合していてもよく、適当な結合基を介して結合していてもよい。
なお、式(a)中、l、m及びnは、それぞれ独立に、0又は1の整数を表し、R1は炭素数1~6のアルキレン基、-O-、-COO-、-OCO-、-NH-、-NHCO-、-CONH-、-COOCH2-、-CH2OCO-、-CH2COO-、-OCOCH2-又は炭素数1~3のアルキレン-エーテル基を表す。R2、R3及びR4は、それぞれ独立に、フェニレン基又はシクロアルキレン基を表し、R5は水素原子、炭素数1~24のアルキル基、炭素数1~24のアルコキシ基、炭素数1~24のフッ素含有アルキル基、炭素数1~24のフッ素含有アルコキシ基、フッ素基、シアノ基、ニトロ基、アゾ基、ホルミル基、アセチル基、アセトキシ基、水酸基、芳香環、脂肪族環、複素環、又はそれらからなる大環状置換体を表す。
R2、R3及びR4は、合成の容易性、及び液晶を垂直に配向させる能力の観点から、下記表1に示す、l、m、n、R2、R3及びR4の組み合わせが好ましい。

光反応性の側鎖(II)(以下、側鎖Bともいう)は、紫外線の照射によって反応し、共有結合を形成し得る官能基(以下、光架橋基とも言う)を有する架橋性側鎖、又は、紫外線照射によりラジカルが発生する官能基を有する光ラジカル発生側鎖であり、この能力を有していればその構造は限定されない。
このような側鎖としては、例えば、光架橋基としてビニル基、アクリル基、メタクリル基、アントラセニル基、シンナモイル基、カルコニル基、クマリン基、マレイミド基、スチルベン基などを含有する側鎖などが知られており、本発明において、好適に用いられる。また、紫外線照射によりラジカルを発生する構造としては、アシルホスフィンオキサイド構造、アセトフェノン構造、アルキルペノン構造、アントラキノン構造、カルバゾール構造、キサントン構造、チオキサントン構造、トリフェニルアミン構造、フルオレノン構造、ベンズアルデヒド構造、ベンゾイン構造、ベンゾフェノン構造、フルオレン構造等が挙げられ、これらの構造を有する光ラジカル発生側鎖も好適に用いられる。なかでもアセトフェノン構造、ベンゾフェノン構造、又はベンゾイン構造を有する側鎖が好ましい。
これらの基は、上記の能力を有している限りにおいて、特定重合体の主鎖に直接結合していてもよく、適当な結合基を介して結合していてもよい。
炭素環及び複素環としては、具体的には、以下の構造が挙げられるが、これに限定されるものではない。
R11は、炭素数1~30のアルキレン基、二価の炭素環又は二価の複素環であり、アルキレン基、二価の炭素環及び二価の複素環の1以上の水素原子は、フッ素原子又は有機基で置き換えられていてもよい。また、R11中の任意の-CH2-は、以下に挙げるいずれかの基が互いに隣り合わない場合において、これらの基に置き換えられていてもよい;-O-、-NHCO-、-CONH-、-COO-、-OCO-、-NH-、-NHCONH-、又は-CO-。
R12は、-CH2-、-O-、-CONH-、-NHCO-、-COO-、-OCO-、-NH-、-CO-、又は単結合である。
R13は、シンナモイル基、カルコン基、又はクマリン基であり、光架橋基を表す。
R14は、単結合、炭素数1~30のアルキレン基、二価の炭素環又は二価の複素環であり、アルキレン基、二価の炭素環及び二価の複素環の1以上の水素原子は、フッ素原子又は有機基で置き換えられていてもよい。また、R14中の任意の-CH2-は、以下に挙げるいずれかの基が互いに隣り合わない場合において、これらの基に置き換えられていてもよい;-O-、-NHCO-、-CONH-、-COO-、-OCO-、-NH-、-NHCONH-、又は-CO-。
R15は、アクリル基又はメタクリル基であり、光重合性基を示す。
式(b-2)で表される側鎖のうち、-R13-R14-R15で表される基の具体例としては、以下の構造を挙げることができるが、これらに限定されない。なお、下記の構造中、Rは水素原子又はメチル基を示す。
R16及びR17は、それぞれ独立して、炭素数1~10のアルキル基、炭素数1~10のアルコキシ基、ベンジル基、又はフェネチル基であり、アルキル基やアルコキシ基の場合、R16とR17で環を形成していてもよい。
T1及びT2は、それぞれ独立して、単結合、-O-、-COO-、-OCO-、-NHCO-、-CONH-、-NH-、-CH2O-、-N(CH3)-、-CON(CH3)-又は-N(CH3)CO-の結合基を示す。
S4は、単結合、非置換又はフッ素原子によって置換されている炭素数1~20のアルキレン基を示す(ただし、アルキレン基の-CH2-又は-CF2-は、-CH=CH-で任意に置き換えられていてもよく、以下に挙げるいずれかの基が互いに隣り合わない場合において、これらの基に置き換えられていてもよい;-O-、-COO-、-OCO-、-NHCO-、-CONH-、-NH-、二価の炭素環、又は二価の複素環。)。

<ポリイミド前駆体>
ポリイミド前駆体とは、ポリアミック酸及びポリアミック酸エステルを意味する。以下、ポリアミック酸に関する調製方法について記載するが、ポリアミック酸エステルは、従来公知の方法や、以下に記載のポリアミック酸と同様又は類似の方法により調製することができる。
側鎖Aを有するポリアミック酸は、原料であるジアミン及びテトラカルボン酸無水物のうち、いずれかが側鎖Aを有するか、双方が側鎖Aを有することにより、該原料を反応させることによって得ることができる。このうち、原料合成の容易性などから、側鎖Aを有するジアミンを用いる方法が好ましい。
側鎖Aを有するジアミン(以下、ジアミンAという。)としては、ジアミン側鎖にアルキル基、フッ素含有アルキル基、芳香環、脂肪族環、複素環、又はそれらからなる大環状置換体を有するジアミンを例として挙げることができる。具体的には、前記式(a)で表される側鎖を有するジアミンを挙げることができる。より具体的には、下記式(1)、(3)、(4)、(5)で表されるジアミンを挙げることができるが、これに限定されるものではない。なお、式(1)中のl、m、n、及びR1~R5の定義は、前記式(a)と同じである。
式[A-6]及び式[A-7]中、A2は、-O-、-OCH2-、-CH2O-、-COOCH2-、又は-CH2OCO-を示し、A3は、炭素数1~22のアルキル基、炭素数1~22のアルコキシ基、炭素数1~22のフッ素含有アルキル基又は炭素数1~22のフッ素含有アルコキシ基である。
式[A-8]~式[A-10]中、A4は、-COO-、-OCO-、-CONH-、-NHCO-、-COOCH2-、-CH2OCO-、-CH2O-、-OCH2-、又は-CH2-を示し、A5は、炭素数1~22のアルキル基、炭素数1~22のアルコキシ基、炭素数1~22のフッ素含有アルキル基又は炭素数1~22のフッ素含有アルコキシ基である。
式[A-13]及び式[A-14]中、A8は、炭素数3~12のアルキル基であり、1,4-シクロヘキシレンのシス-トランス異性は、それぞれトランス異性体である。
式[A-15]及び式[A-16]中、A9は、炭素数3~12のアルキル基であり、1,4-シクロヘキシレンのシス-トランス異性は、それぞれトランス異性体である。
上記のジアミンは、液晶配向膜とした際の液晶配向性、プレチルト角、電圧保持特性、蓄積電荷などの特性に応じて、1種類又は2種類以上を混合して使用することもできる。
側鎖Bを有するジアミン(以下、ジアミンBとも言う)の例として、ジアミン側鎖にビニル基、アクリル基、メタクリル基、アントラセニル基、シンナモイル基、カルコニル基、クマリン基、マレイミド基、スチルベン基などの光架橋基を有するジアミン、紫外線照射によりラジカルを発生する官能基を有するジアミンを挙げることができる。具体的には、前記式(b-1)~(b-3)で表される側鎖を有するジアミンを挙げることができる。具体例として、下記の一般式(2)(式(2)中のR6、R7、R8及びR9の定義は、前記式(b-1)と同じである)で表されるジアミンを挙げることができるが、これに限定されるものではない。

本発明に用いるポリアミック酸の合成において、上記のジアミン成分と反応させるテトラカルボン酸二無水物は特に限定されない。その具体例を以下に挙げる。
ジアミン成分とテトラカルボン酸二無水物との反応により、ポリアミック酸を得るにあたっては、公知の合成手法を用いることができる。一般的には、ジアミン成分とテトラカルボン酸二無水物とを有機溶媒中で反応させる方法である。ジアミン成分とテトラカルボン酸二無水物との反応は、有機溶媒中で比較的容易に進行し、かつ副生成物が発生しない点で有利である。
本発明に用いるポリイミドにおいて、ポリアミック酸からポリイミドへのイミド化率は、必ずしも100%である必要はない。
本発明の液晶配向剤は、上記式(1)で表される重合性化合物、及び上記ポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体を含有する。これらの成分以外に、樹脂被膜を形成するための他の重合体成分を含有してもよい。全樹脂成分の含有量は、液晶配向剤100質量%中、1~20質量%、好ましくは3~15質量%、より好ましくは3~10質量%である。
他の重合体としては、例えば、側鎖Bを有さないポリイミド前駆体又はポリイミド、側鎖Aと側鎖Bの両方を有さないポリイミド前駆体又はポリイミドなどを挙げることができるが、これらに限定されない。
本発明の液晶配向剤中における式(1)で表される重合性化合物の含有量は、樹脂成分100質量部に対して3~30質量部、好ましくは5~20質量部、より好ましくは5~15質量部である。かかる含有量の場合には、本発明の効果が得られる。
本発明の液晶配向剤に用いる有機溶媒は、上述した樹脂成分を溶解させる有機溶媒であれば特に限定されない。この有機溶媒は1種類の溶媒であっても、2種類以上の混合溶媒であってもよい。有機溶媒の具体例としては、前記のポリアミック酸合成で例示した有機溶媒を挙げることができる。中でも、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン、γ-ブチロラクトン、N-エチル-2-ピロリドン、1,3-ジメチル-2-イミダゾリジノン、又は3-メトキシ-N,N-ジメチルプロパンアミドは、樹脂成分の溶解性の観点から好ましい。
また、以下に示すような溶媒は、塗膜の均一性や平滑性を向上させる効果を有し、樹脂成分の溶解性が高い溶媒に混合して使用するのが好ましい。
例えば、イソプロピルアルコール、メトキシメチルペンタノール、メチルセロソルブ、エチルセロソルブ、ブチルセロソルブ、メチルセロソルブアセテート、ブチルセロソルブアセテート、エチルセロソルブアセテート、ブチルカルビトール、エチルカルビトール、エチルカルビトールアセテート、エチレングリコール、エチレングリコールモノアセテート、エチレングリコールモノイソプロピルエーテル、エチレングリコールモノブチルエーテル、プロピレングリコール、プロピレングリコールモノアセテート、プロピレングリコールモノメチルエーテル、プロピレングリコールモノブチルエーテル、プロピレングリコール-tert-ブチルエーテル、ジプロピレングリコールモノメチルエーテル、ジエチレングリコール、ジエチレングリコールモノアセテート、ジエチレングリコールジメチルエーテル、ジエチレングリコールジエチルエーテル、ジプロピレングリコールモノアセテートモノメチルエーテル、ジプロピレングリコールモノメチルエーテル、プロピレングリコールモノメチルエーテルアセテート、ジプロピレングリコールモノエチルエーテル、ジプロピレングリコールモノアセテートモノエチルエーテル、ジプロピレングリコールモノプロピルエーテル、ジプロピレングリコールモノアセテートモノプロピルエーテル、3-メチル-3-メトキシブチルアセテート、トリプロピレングリコールメチルエーテル、3-メチル-3-メトキシブタノール、ジイソプロピルエーテル、エチルイソブチルエーテル、ジイソブチレン、アミルアセテート、ブチルブチレート、ブチルエーテル、ジイソブチルケトン、メチルシクロへキセン、プロピルエーテル、ジヘキシルエーテル、n-へキサン、n-ペンタン、n-オクタン、ジエチルエーテル、乳酸メチル、乳酸エチル、酢酸メチル、酢酸エチル、酢酸n-ブチル、酢酸プロピレングリコールモノエチルエーテル、ピルビン酸メチル、ピルビン酸エチル、3-メトキシプロピオン酸メチル、3-エトキシプロピオン酸メチルエチル、3-メトキシプロピオン酸エチル、3-エトキシプロピオン酸、3-メトキシプロピオン酸、3-メトキシプロピオン酸プロピル、3-メトキシプロピオン酸ブチル、1-メトキシ-2-プロパノール、1-エトキシ-2-プロパノール、1-ブトキシ-2-プロパノール、1-フェノキシ-2-プロパノール、プロピレングリコールモノアセテート、プロピレングリコールジアセテート、プロピレングリコール-1-モノメチルエーテル-2-アセテート、プロピレングリコール-1-モノエチルエーテル-2-アセテート、ジプロピレングリコール、2-(2-エトキシプロポキシ)プロパノール、乳酸メチルエステル、乳酸エチルエステル、乳酸n-プロピルエステル、乳酸n-ブチルエステル、乳酸イソアミルエステル、2-エチル-1-ヘキサノールなどが挙げられる。これらの溶媒は複数種類を混合してもよい。これらの溶媒を用いる場合は、液晶配向剤に含まれる溶媒全体の5~80質量%であることが好ましく、より好ましくは20~60質量%である。
また、液晶配向剤から得られる塗膜のラビング耐性をさらに上げるために、2,2'-ビス(4-ヒドロキシ-3,5-ジヒドロキシメチルフェニル)プロパン、テトラ(メトキシメチル)ビスフェノール等のフェノール化合物を添加してもよい。これらの化合物を使用する場合は、液晶配向剤に含有される樹脂成分の100質量部に対して、0.1~30質量部であることが好ましく、より好ましくは1~20質量部である。
本発明の液晶配向剤には、上記の他、本発明の効果が損なわれない範囲であれば、液晶配向膜の誘電率や導電性などの電気特性を変化させる目的の誘電体や導電物質を添加してもよい。
本発明の液晶配向剤を、基板に塗布した後、必要に応じて、乾燥し、焼成を行うことで得られる硬化膜を、そのまま液晶配向膜として用いることもできる。また、この硬化膜は、ラビングしたり、偏光又は特定の波長の光等を照射したり、イオンビーム等の処理をしたり、SC-PVA用配向膜として液晶充填後の液晶表示素子に電圧を印加した状態でUVを照射することも可能である。
本発明の液晶表示素子は、上記の方法により、基板に液晶配向膜を形成した後、公知の方法で液晶セルを作製して得ることができる。
液晶表示素子の具体例としては、対向するように配置された2枚の基板と、基板間に設けられた液晶層と、基板と液晶層との間に設けられ、本発明の液晶配向剤により形成された液晶配向膜とを有する液晶セルを具備する垂直配向方式の液晶表示素子である。具体的には、本発明の液晶配向剤を2枚の基板上に塗布して焼成することにより液晶配向膜を形成し、この液晶配向膜が対向するように2枚の基板を配置し、この2枚の基板の間に液晶で構成された液晶層を挟持して、液晶配向膜に接触させて液晶層を設け、液晶配向膜及び液晶層に電圧を印加しながら、紫外線を照射することで作製される液晶セルを具備する垂直配向方式の液晶表示素子である。
本発明の液晶配向剤により形成された液晶配向膜を用い、液晶配向膜及び液晶層に電圧を印加しながら紫外線を照射して、重合性化合物を重合させると共に、重合体が有する光反応性の側鎖同士や、重合体が有する光反応性の側鎖と重合性化合物を反応させることにより、より効率的に液晶の配向が固定化され、応答速度が顕著に優れた液晶表示素子となる。
本発明の液晶表示素子は、従来の電極パターンや突起パターンが設けられた基板を用いてもよいが、本発明の液晶配向剤を用いて形成された液晶配向膜を有していることにより、片側基板に、例えば、1~10μmのライン/スリット電極パターンを形成し、対向基板にはスリットパターンや突起パターンを形成していない構造の基板を用いても動作可能であり、液晶表示素子の製造時のプロセスを簡略化でき、高い透過率を得ることができる。
透過型の液晶表示素子の場合は、上記基板を用いることが一般的であるが、反射型の液晶表示素子では、片側の基板のみにならば、シリコンウエハー等の不透明な基板も用いることが可能である。その際、基板に形成された電極には、光を反射するアルミニウムの如き材料を用いることもできる。
また、液晶配向膜が形成された1対の基板を用意し、一方の基板の液晶配向膜上に、ビーズ等のスペーサーを散布した後に液晶を滴下し、その後、液晶配向膜が形成された側の面が内側になるようにして、もう一方の基板を貼り合わせて封止を行う方法でも、液晶セルを作製することができる。このときのスペーサーの厚みは、好ましくは1~30μm、より好ましくは2~10μmである。
用いる紫外線の波長は、300~400nmが好ましく、310~370nmがより好ましい。
また、液晶配向膜及び液晶層に電圧を印加しながら紫外線を照射すると、反応性の側鎖を有するポリイミド前駆体、及びこのポリイミド前駆体をイミド化して得られるポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体が有する光反応性の側鎖同士や、重合体が有する光反応性の側鎖と重合性化合物が反応するため、得られる液晶表示素子の応答速度を速くすることができる。
CBDA:1,2,3,4-シクロブタンテトラカルボン酸二無水物。
PMDA:ピロメリット酸無水物。
TCA:2,3,5-トリカルボキシシクロペンチル酢酸-1,4,2,3-二無水物。
室温下、マグネチックスターラーを備えた500mL(ミリリットル)四口フラスコに、4-(4-ヒドロキシフェニル)安息香酸 20g(93.4mmol)、NMP 70.0g(3.5wt)、炭酸カリウム38.7g(3.0eq)、及びヨウ化カリウム 0.776g(5.0mol%)を仕込み、NMP 10.0g(0.5wt)を、フラスコの壁面を洗浄しつつ反応液に加えた後、撹拌した。その後、100℃に昇温し、4-クロロブチルアルデヒドジメチルアセタール35.7g(2.5eq)、及びNMP 10.0g(0.5wt)を、フラスコの壁面に付着した粉末を洗浄しつつ、反応系内に流し込み、18時間撹拌して、反応させた。
反応後、トルエン 120g(6.0wt)を加えてろ過し、ろ物をトルエン 20.0g(1wt)で2回洗浄した。次いで、まとめたトルエンのろ液を、水 80.0g(4wt)で3回洗浄した。その後、50℃で、真空乾燥して、溶媒を留去した。残渣に酢酸エチル 30.0g(1.5wt)を加え、50℃に昇温して溶解させた。その後、ヘプタン 140g(7wt)を滴下し、0℃まで冷却した。種晶を少量添加し、結晶を析出させた。結晶をろ過し、ヘプタン 20.0g(1wt)で2回洗浄した後、30℃で真空乾燥し、RM1-A 38.0gを得た(収率:91%、性状:白色固体)。
室温下、マグネチックスターラーを備えた1L四口フラスコに、RM1-A 35.0g(78.4mmol)、及びTHF 105g(3.0wt)を仕込み、撹拌して溶解するのを確認した後、塩化錫2水和物 38.9g(2.2eq)、及び2-(ブロモメチル)アクリル酸エチル 33.4g(2.2eq)を順次投入し、60℃に昇温した。次いで、0.1M塩酸 125g(3.6wt)を滴下した後、THF 245g(7wt) を、フラスコの壁面に付着した粉末を洗浄しつつ、反応系内に流し込み、14.5時間撹拌して、反応させた。
反応液を50℃に冷却し、トルエン 350g(10wt)を加えて分液し、塩酸層を除去した。その後、有機層を50℃の12.9質量%水酸化カリウム水溶液 263g(7.5wt)に30分かけて滴下し、撹拌した後、有機層を分液した。得られた有機層に5.2質量%水酸化カリウム水溶液 262g(7.5wt)を加えて撹拌した後、50℃で分液した。分液した有機層に、活性炭 3.49g(10wt%)を加え、50℃で30分撹拌した後、50℃でろ過した。ろ物をトルエン 17.5g(0.5wt)で2回洗浄し、まとめたトルエンのろ液を撹拌しながら5℃まで冷却し、1時間熟成させた。析出した固体をろ過し、ろ物をヘプタン 17.5g(0.5wt)で2回洗浄した。ろ物は40℃で、真空乾燥し、RM1 19.7gを得た(収率:51%、性状:白色結晶)。

室温下、マグネチックスターラーを備えた500mL四口フラスコに、4,4’-ビフェノール 80.0g(430mmol)、及びDMF 160.0g(2.0wt)を仕込み、撹拌して溶解させた。その後、炭酸カリウム 77.2g(1.3eq)、及びヨウ化カリウム 3.57g(5.0mol%)を順次加えた。その後、80℃に昇温し、4-クロロブチルアルデヒドジメチルアセタール 65.6g(1.0eq)を1時間掛けて滴下し、19.5時間撹拌して、反応させた。
反応液を水 1600g(20wt)中に滴下した後、0.5時間撹拌し、析出した固体をろ過した。ろ物を水 40.0g(0.5wt)で2回洗浄した。その後、ろ物を40℃で1.5時間減圧乾燥させた。乾燥後のろ物に、メタノール 880g(11wt)を加えて、懸濁状態で攪拌することにより結晶を洗浄(以下、スラリー洗浄という。)した後、ろ過した。ろ物をメタノール 8.00g(0.1wt)で2回洗浄した。まとめたメタノールなどのろ液の溶媒を減圧で留去し、残渣を得た。得られた残渣をクロロホルム 1040g(13wt)でスラリー洗浄し、ろ過した。ろ物をクロロホルム 16.0g(0.2wt)で2回洗浄し、まとめたクロロホルムのろ液の溶媒を留去した。得られた残渣に、THF 104g(1.3wt)、及びヘプタン 326g(4.1wt)を加え、0℃に冷却して晶析した。析出した固体に、メタノール 400g(5wt)を加えてスラリー洗浄し、ろ過した。ろ物を40℃で減圧乾燥し、RM2-A 33.6gを得た(収率:26%、性状:白色固体)。
室温下、マグネチックスターラーを備えた500mL四口フラスコに、RM2-A 33.6g(111mmol)、及びDMF 169g(5wt)を仕込み、撹拌して溶解させ、炭酸カリウム 20.0g(1.3eq)を加えた。その後、80℃に昇温し、2-(4-ブロモブチル)-1,3-ジオキソラン 25.6g(1.3eq)を滴下して、24.5時間撹拌して、反応させた。
反応液を水 672g(20wt)に滴下した後、0.5時間撹拌し、析出した固体をろ過した。ろ物を水 16.8g(0.5wt)で2回洗浄した。次いで、ろ物を40℃で1.5時間真空乾燥した。乾燥後のろ物にトルエン 100g(3.0wt)を加え、70℃に昇温して溶解させた。その後、ヘプタン 198g(6.0wt)を滴下し、0℃まで冷却して、析出した固体をろ過した。得られたろ物を、ヘプタン 10.0g(0.3wt)で2回洗浄した。ろ物を40℃で真空乾燥し、RM2-B 35.6gを得た(収率:75%、性状:白色固体)。
室温下、マグネチックスターラーを備えた1L四口フラスコに、RM2-B 50.0g(116mmol)、及びTHF 500g(10wt)を仕込み、撹拌して溶解するのを確認した後、塩化錫2水和物 57.7g(2.2eq)、及び2-(ブロモメチル)アクリル酸エチル 49.3g(2.2eq)を順次投入し、60℃に昇温した。その後、0.1M 塩酸 179g(3.6wt) を滴下し、26時間撹拌して、反応させた。
反応液を50℃に冷却し、トルエン 500g(10wt)を加え、分液して塩酸層を除去した。有機層を50℃の12.9質量%水酸化カリウム水溶液 375g(7.5wt)に30分かけ滴下し、その後、有機層を分液した。有機層に5.2質量%水酸化カリウム水溶液 375g(7.5wt)を加え、50℃で分液した。分液した有機層を、水 375g(7.5wt)で洗浄した。洗浄した有機層に活性炭 5.12g(10wt%)を加え、50℃で30分撹拌した後、50℃でろ過した。ろ物をトルエン 25.0g(0.5wt)で2回洗浄し、まとめたトルエンのろ液を、撹拌しながら5℃まで冷却し、1時間熟成させた。析出した固体をろ過し、ろ物をヘプタン 25.0g(0.5wt)で2回洗浄した。ろ物を40℃で真空乾燥し、RM2 35.6gを得た(収率:83%、性状:白色結晶)。

室温下、マグネチックスターラーを備えた500mL四口フラスコに、4,4’-ビフェノール 50.0g(269mmol)、及びDMF 175gを仕込み、撹拌し溶解させた後、炭酸カリウム 48.24g(1.3eq)を加えた。その後、80℃に昇温し、2-(2-ブロモエチル)-1,3-ジオキソラン 48.61g(1.0eq)を1時間掛け滴下し、7時間撹拌して、反応させた。次いで、反応液を水 1000g中に滴下し、室温にて0.5時間撹拌した後、析出した固体をろ過した。ろ物にメタノール 550gを加え、室温にてスラリー洗浄した後、0~5℃にてろ過した。ろ液の溶媒を留去した残渣に、クロロホルム 650gを加え、室温にてスラリー洗浄した後、ろ過した。ろ液の溶媒を留去した残渣に、THF 15gを加え、溶解させた後、トルエン 37.5gを加え、氷浴にて0.5時間攪拌した。析出した結晶をろ過し、洗浄(トルエン 12.5g)した後、40℃にて減圧乾燥し、RM3-A 9.0gを得た(収率:12%、性状:灰色結晶)。
室温下、マグネチックスターラーを備えた500mL四口フラスコに、RM3-A 8.31g(29mmol)、及びNMP 12.5gを仕込み、撹拌し溶解させた後、炭酸カリウム 6.01g(1.5eq.)を加えた。その後、80℃に昇温し、2-(4-ブロモブチル)-1,3-ジオキソラン 5.79g(1.1eq)を10分掛けて滴下し、19時間撹拌して、反応させた。次いで、反応液中へ酢酸エチル 83gを加え、析出した無機塩をろ過した。その後、ろ液を水 24gで3回分液洗浄し、ろ液の溶媒を留去した。得られた残渣にトルエン 24gを加え、70℃にて溶解させた後、ヘプタン 48gを加え、氷浴にて暫く攪拌した。析出した結晶をろ過し、40℃にて減圧乾燥して、RM3-B 12.2gを得た(収率:91%、性状:白色固体)。
室温下、マグネチックスターラーを備えた500mL四口フラスコに、RM3-B 11.0g(26.5mmol)、及びTHF 110gを仕込み、撹拌し溶解させた後、塩化錫2水和物 14.4g(2.4eq)、及び2-(ブロモメチル)アクリル酸エチル 49.3g(2.2eq)を順次加えた。その後、10質量% 塩酸 38.5gを滴下し、120時間反応させた。反応液を3分の1程度まで減圧濃縮した後、15℃まで冷却し、析出した結晶をろ過し、洗浄(水 44g×3回)した。次いで、この結晶をTHF 165gに溶解させ、トルエン 110gを加えて希釈した。得られた溶液を、室温にて12.9質量%水酸化カリウム水溶液 82.5g中へ滴下し、水層を分液し、除去した。得られた有機層に、室温にて5.2質量%水酸化カリウム水溶液 82.5gを加え、水層を分液し、除去した。その後、有機層を水 82.5gで5回洗浄し、特製白鷺活性炭 0.55g(5質量%)を加えて、室温にて1時間撹拌し、これをろ過した。その後、ろ液を15g程度まで減圧濃縮し、5℃にて暫く攪拌した。析出した結晶をろ過し、洗浄(ヘプタン 5.5g×2回)し、40℃にて減圧乾燥して、RM3 7.1gを得た(収率:53%、性状:白色結晶)。

WO2012/002513号に開示の方法によりRM4を合成した。
<合成例5>
日本特願2014-015830号に開示の方法によりRM5を合成した。
室温下、マグネチックスターラーを備えた1L四口フラスコに、4,4’-ビフェノール 55.8g(300mmol)、2-(4-ブロモブチル)-1,3-ジオキソラン 62.7g(1.0eq)、及びアセトン 234g (4.2wt)を順次仕込み、撹拌しながら、さらに炭酸カリウム 53.9g(1.3 eq)を加えた後、アセトン 156g (2.8wt)を、フラスコの壁面に付着した粉末を洗浄しつつ、反応系内に流し込んだ。その後、60℃に昇温し、41.5時間撹拌して、反応させた。
その後、室温まで放冷した後、水 3013g(54wt)中に反応液を滴下し、30分撹拌した。次いで、析出した固体をろ過し、ろ物を30℃で減圧乾燥した。乾燥した固体にメタノール 614g(11wt)を加えて撹拌し、スラリー洗浄を行った。その後、ろ過し、得られたろ液を濃縮した。得られた残渣に、クロロホルム 725g(13wt)を加え、撹拌して、スラリー洗浄を行った。次いで、得られたろ液を減圧濃縮した。得られた残渣にTHF 72.5g(1.3wt)を加え、さらにヘプタン 273g(4.9wt)を滴下し、0℃に冷却した。析出した固体をろ過し、ヘプタンで洗浄した後、減圧乾燥し、RM6-A 31.6gを得た(収率:34%、性状:白色固体)。
室温下、マグネチックスターラーを備えた500mL四口フラスコに、RM6-A 19.7g(62.6mmol)、炭酸カリウム 43.1g(5.0eq)、ヨウ化カリウム 1.04g(10mol%)、及びDMF 148g(7.5wt)を順次仕込み、撹拌して、100℃に昇温した。さらに、4-クロロ-1-ブタノール 4.80g(1.8eq)を滴下し、27時間撹拌し、反応させた。途中、反応が遅くなったので、4-クロロ-1-ブタノール 2.40g(0.3eq)を2回追加した。
その後、反応液をろ過し、炭酸カリウムをろ別した。ろ液を4.3wtまで濃縮し、残渣を水 400g(20wt)中に滴下して、結晶を析出させた。得られた結晶にTHF 197g(10wt)を加え、40℃で溶解させ、ヘプタン 197g(10wt)を滴下することで、結晶を析出させた。その後、結晶を含む溶液を0℃まで冷却した後、ろ過し、得られた結晶を減圧乾燥して、RM6-B 19.4gを得た(収率:80%、性状:淡い褐色固体)。
室温下、RM6-B 19.4g(50.3mmol)にTHF 155g(8.0wt) を加え、撹拌しながら溶解するのを確認した後、BHT 55.4mg(0.5mol%)、塩化錫2水和物 20.4g(1.8eq)、及び2-(ブロモメチル)アクリル酸エチル 17.5g(1.8eq)を順次仕込んだ。その後、60℃に昇温し、0.1M塩酸 69.4g(3.6wt)を滴下し、18時間撹拌し、反応させた。
次いで、50℃に温度調節した後、トルエン 194g(10wt)を加え、分液した。有機層を、50℃の12.9質量%水酸化カリウム水溶液 150g(7.5wt)に30分かけて滴下したが、不溶物が析出した。そのため、12.9質量%水酸化カリウム水溶液 637g(32.8wt)を追加して、不溶物を溶解させ、その後、50℃で分液した。次いで、分液した有機層を5.2質量%水酸化カリウム水溶液 150g(7.5wt)、さらに水 150g(7.5wt)で洗浄した。洗浄した有機層に、活性炭 2.00g(特製白鷺、10wt%)を加え、50℃で30分撹拌した後、熱時ろ過した。ろ物をトルエン 10.5g(0.5wt)で2回洗浄し、まとめたろ液を5℃で30分熟成させた。その後、析出した固体をろ過し、ヘプタン 10.5g(0.5wt)で2回洗浄した。得られた固体を40℃で減圧乾燥して、RM6-C 3.2gを得た(収率:16%、性状:白色固体)。
室温下、マグネチックスターラーを備えた500mL四口フラスコに、RM6-C 3.1g(7.5mmol)を仕込み、THF 308g(100wt)を加えて、撹拌しながら溶解するのを確認した。その後、トリエチルアミン 10.3g(13.6eq.)、及びメタクリル酸クロリド 10.2g(13eq)を1時間かけて滴下し、19.5時間撹拌し、反応させた。
次いで、水 217g(70wt)を加え、トリエチルアミン塩酸塩を溶解させ、さらにトルエン 208g(67wt)を加えて、分液した。分液した有機層を水 151g(49wt)で2回洗浄した。その後、重合反応が起こるのを避けるため、25℃で、溶媒の量が10g(3.3wt)になるまで、減圧留去した。得られた残渣にヘプタン 40.3g(13wt)を滴下した後、0℃に冷却し、1時間熟成した。析出した固体をろ過し、ヘプタン 9.3g(3.0wt)で2回洗浄した。得られた固体を25℃で真空乾燥して、RM6 2.4gを得た(収率:67%、性状:白色結晶)。

ポリイミド粉末20mgをNMRサンプル管(草野科学社製 NMRサンプリングチューブスタンダード φ5)に入れ、重水素化ジメチルスルホキシド(DMSO-d6、0.05質量%TMS混合品)1.0mlを添加し、超音波をかけて完全に溶解させた。この溶液をNMR測定器(日本電子データム社製、JNW-ECA500)にて、500MHzのプロトンNMRを測定した。イミド化率は、イミド化前後で変化しない構造に由来するプロトンを基準プロトンとして決め、このプロトンのピーク積算値と、9.5~10.0ppm付近に現れるアミック酸のNH基に由来するプロトンピーク積算値とを用い以下の式によって求めた。なお下記式において、xはアミック酸のNH基由来のプロトンピーク積算値、yは基準プロトンのピーク積算値、αはポリアミック酸(イミド化率が0%)の場合におけるアミック酸のNH基のプロトン1個に対する基準プロトンの個数割合である。

BODA(10.0g、 40.0mmol)、DA-1(15.2g、40.0mmol)、DA-2(4.85g、20.0mmol)、及びDA-3(13.2g、40.0mmol)を、NMP(164.4g)中で溶解し、60℃で3時間反応させた。次いで、CBDA(11.5g、58.6mmol)とNMP(54.8g)を加え、40℃で10時間反応させて、ポリアミック酸溶液を得た。
このポリアミック酸溶液(250g)にNMPを加え6.5質量%に希釈した後、イミド化触媒として無水酢酸(46.4g)、及びピリジン(14.4g)を加え、70℃で3時間反応させた。この反応溶液をメタノール(2900g)に投入し、得られた沈殿物を濾別した。この沈殿物をメタノールで洗浄し、100℃で減圧乾燥して、ポリイミド粉末Aを得た。このポリイミドのイミド化率は73%であり、Mnは13000、Mwは39000であった。
得られたポリイミド粉末A(10.0g)にNMP(48.8g)を加え、70℃にて12時間攪拌して溶解させた。この溶液に3AMP(1wt%NMP溶液)10.0g、NMP(31.2g)、及びBCS(66.7g)を加え、室温で5時間攪拌して、液晶配向剤A1を得た。
BODA(18.0g、 72.0mmol)、DA-1(13.7g、36.0mmol)、DA-2(8.72g、36.0mmol)、及びDBA(7.30g、48.0mmol)をNMP(173.5g)中で溶解し、60℃で3時間反応させた。その後、PMDA(10.1g、46.3mmol)とNMP(57.8g)を加え、室温で10時間反応させポリアミック酸溶液を得た。
このポリアミック酸溶液(250g)にNMPを加え10質量%に希釈した後、イミド化触媒として無水酢酸(52.6g)、及びピリジン(40.8g)を加え、80℃で4時間反応させた。この反応溶液をメタノール(2900g)に投入し、得られた沈殿物を濾別した。この沈殿物をメタノールで洗浄し、100℃で減圧乾燥し、ポリイミド粉末Bを得た。このポリイミドのイミド化率は77%であり、Mnは12000、Mwは35000であった。ポリイミド粉末Aに換えてポリイミド粉末B(10.0g)を用いた以外は、合成例7と同様にして液晶配向剤B1を得た。
合成例7で得られた液晶配向剤A1 70.0gに対して、合成例8で得られた液晶配向剤B1 30.0gを加え、室温で5時間攪拌することにより、液晶配向剤C1を得た。
BODA(6.51g、 26.0mmol)、DA-1(14.8g、38.9mmol)、及びDBA(13.9g、91.0mmol)をNMP(165.3g)中で溶解し、60℃で3時間反応させた。その後、CBDA(19.9g、101.5mmol)とNMP(55.1g)を加え、40℃で12時間反応させポリアミック酸溶液を得た。
このポリアミック酸溶液(250g)にNMPを加え6.5質量%に希釈した後、イミド化触媒として無水酢酸(59.7g)及びピリジン(18.5g)を加え、50℃で3時間反応させた。この反応溶液をメタノール(2900g)に投入し、得られた沈殿物を濾別した。この沈殿物をメタノールで洗浄し、100℃で減圧乾燥して、ポリイミド粉末Dを得た。このポリイミドのイミド化率は75%であり、Mnは12000、Mwは32000であった。ポリイミド粉末Aに換えてポリイミド粉末D(10.0g)を用いた以外は、合成例7と同様にして液晶配向剤D1を得た。
合成例7で得られた液晶配向剤A1 70.0gに対して、合成例10で得られた液晶配向剤D1 30.0gを加え、室温で5時間攪拌することにより、液晶配向剤E1を得た。
BODA(10.0g、 40.0mmol)、DA-1(19.0g、50.0mmol)、及びDA-3(16.5g、50.0mmol)をNMP(171.1g)中で溶解し、60℃で3時間反応させた。その後、CBDA(11.5g、58.6mmol)とNMP(57.0g)を加え、40℃で12時間反応させポリアミック酸溶液を得た。
このポリアミック酸溶液(250g)にNMPを加え6.5質量%に希釈した後、イミド化触媒として無水酢酸(44.5g)及びピリジン(13.8g)を加え、70℃で3時間反応させた。この反応溶液をメタノール(2900g)に投入し、得られた沈殿物を濾別した。この沈殿物をメタノールで洗浄し、100℃で減圧乾燥して、ポリイミド粉末Fを得た。このポリイミドのイミド化率は73%であり、Mnは14000、Mwは38000であった。ポリイミド粉末Aに換えてポリイミド粉末F(10.0g)を用いた以外は、合成例7と同様にして液晶配向剤F1を得た。
合成例12で得られた液晶配向剤F1 70.0gに対して、合成例8で得られた液晶配向剤B1 30.0gを加え、室温で5時間攪拌し液晶配向剤G1を得た。
BODA(10.0g、 40.0mmol)、DA-1(15.2g、40.0mmol)、DA-3(9.91g、30.0mmol)、及びDA-5(7.93g、30.0mmol)をNMP(163.7g)中で溶解し、60℃で3時間反応させ。その後、CBDA(11.5g、58.6mmol)とNMP(54.6g)を加え、40℃で10時間反応させポリアミック酸溶液を得た。
このポリアミック酸溶液(250g)にNMPを加え6.5質量%に希釈した後、イミド化触媒として無水酢酸(46.5g)、及びピリジン(14.4g)を加え、70℃で3時間反応させた。この反応溶液をメタノール(2900g)に投入し、得られた沈殿物を濾別した。この沈殿物をメタノールで洗浄し、100℃で減圧乾燥して、ポリイミド粉末Hを得た。このポリイミドのイミド化率は74%であり、Mnは16000、Mwは45000であった。ポリイミド粉末Aに換えてポリイミド粉末H(10.0g)を用いた以外は、合成例7と同様にして液晶配向剤H1を得た。
TCA(1.35g、 6.0mmol)、DA-1(2.28g、6.0mmol)、及びDA-3(2.97g、9.0mmol)をNMP(24.9g)中で溶解し、80℃で3時間反応させた。その後、CBDA(1.74g、8.9mmol)とNMP(8.3g)を加え、室温で10時間反応させポリアミック酸溶液を得た。
このポリアミック酸溶液(36g)にNMPを加え6質量%に希釈した後、イミド化触媒として無水酢酸(4.0g)、及びピリジン(2.1g)を加え、50℃で3時間反応させた。この反応溶液をメタノール(700ml)に投入し、得られた沈殿物を濾別した。この沈殿物をメタノールで洗浄し、100℃で減圧乾燥して、ポリイミド粉末Iを得た。このポリイミドのイミド化率は60%であり、Mnは20000、Mwは43000であった。
得られたポリイミド粉末I(6.0g)にNMP(44.0g)を加え、50℃にて5時間攪拌して溶解させた。この溶液に3AMP(1wt%NMP溶液)6.0g、NMP(14.0g)、BCS(30.0g)を加え、室温で5時間攪拌し液晶配向剤I1を得た。
BODA(2.00g、 8.0mmol)、DA-3(4.63g、14.0mmol)、及びDA-4(2.61g、6.0mmol)をNMP(34.5g)中で溶解し、60℃で3時間反応させた。その後、CBDA(2.27g、11.6mmol)とNMP(11.5g)を加え、室温で10時間反応させポリアミック酸溶液を得た。
このポリアミック酸溶液(50g)にNMPを加え6質量%に希釈した後、イミド化触媒として無水酢酸(5.3g)、及びピリジン(2.7g)を加え、50℃で3時間反応させた。この反応溶液をメタノール(700ml)に投入し、得られた沈殿物を濾別した。この沈殿物をメタノールで洗浄し、100℃で減圧乾燥して、ポリイミド粉末Jを得た。このポリイミドのイミド化率は60%であり、Mnは17000、Mwは35000であった。ポリイミド粉末Iに換えてポリイミド粉末J(10.0g)を用いた以外は、合成例15と同様にして液晶配向剤J1を得た。
BODA(1.30g、 5.2mmol)、DA-6(2.03g、3.9mmol)、及びDA-3(3.00g、9.1mmol)をNMP(23.5g)中で溶解し、60℃で3時間反応させた。その後、CBDA(1.43g、7.3mmol)とNMP(7.8g)を加え、室温で10時間反応させポリアミック酸溶液を得た。
このポリアミック酸溶液(36g)にNMPを加え6質量%に希釈した後、イミド化触媒として無水酢酸(3.6g)、及びピリジン(1.9g)を加え、50℃で3時間反応させた。この反応溶液をメタノール(700ml)に投入し、得られた沈殿物を濾別した。この沈殿物をメタノールで洗浄し、100℃で減圧乾燥して、ポリイミド粉末Kを得た。このポリイミドのイミド化率は60%であり、Mnは16000、Mwは36000であった。ポリイミド粉末Iに換えてポリイミド粉末K(10.0g)を用いた以外は、合成例15と同様にして液晶配向剤K1を得た。
合成例9で得られた液晶配向剤C1 10.0gに対して、合成例1で得られた重合性化合物RM1を0.042g(固形分に対して7質量%)添加し、室温で3時間攪拌して溶解させ、液晶配向剤L1を調製した。
重合性化合物RM1の量を、0.06g(固形分に対して10質量%)とした以外は、実施例1と同様の方法により、液晶配向剤L2を調製した。
(実施例3)
重合性化合物RM1の代わりに、合成例2で得られたRM2を用いた以外は、実施例1と同様の方法により、液晶配向剤L3を調製した。
(実施例4)
重合性化合物RM1の代わりに、合成例3で得られたRM3を用いた以外は、実施例1と同様の方法により、液晶配向剤L4を調製した。

重合性化合物RM1の代わりに、合成例4で得られたRM4を用いた以外は、実施例1と同様の方法により、液晶配向剤L5を調製した。
(比較例2)
重合性化合物RM1の代わりに、合成例5で得られたRM5を用いた以外は、実施例1と同様の方法により、液晶配向剤L6を調製した。
(比較例3)
重合性化合物RM1の代わりに、合成例5で得られたRM5を用いた以外は、実施例2と同様の方法により、液晶配向剤L7を調製した。
(比較例4)
重合性化合物RM1の代わりに、合成例6で得られたRM6を用いた以外は、実施例1と同様の方法により、液晶配向剤L8を調製した。
(比較例5)
重合性化合物RM1の代わりに、合成例6で得られたRM6を用いた以外は、実施例2と同様の方法により、液晶配向剤L9を調製した。
(実施例12)
実施例1で得られた液晶配向剤L1を用いて、下記の手順で液晶セルの作製を行った。
液晶配向剤L1を、画素サイズが87μm×89μmで、ライン/スペースがそれぞれ3μmのIZO電極パターン(フィッシュボーン)が形成されている4画素のIZO電極基板のIZO面にスピンコートし、80℃のホットプレートで90秒間乾燥した。その後、200℃の熱風循環式オーブンで、20分間焼成を行い、膜厚100nmの液晶配向膜を形成した。
さらに、液晶配向剤L1を電極パターンが形成されていないITO電極基板のITO面にスピンコートし、80℃のホットプレートで90秒乾燥させた。その後、200℃の熱風循環式オーブンで20分間焼成を行い、膜厚100nmの液晶配向膜を形成した。
上記の2枚の基板について、一方の基板の液晶配向膜上に3.3μmのビーズスペーサーを散布した後、その上からシール剤(溶剤型熱硬化タイプのエポキシ樹脂)を印刷した。次いで、もう一方の基板の液晶配向膜が形成された側の面を内側にして、先の基板と貼り合せた後、シール剤を硬化させて空セルを作製した。この空セルに液晶MLC-6608(メルク社製)を減圧注入法によって注入した。その後、120℃の熱風循環式オーブンに1時間入れ液晶の再配向処理を行い、液晶セル1を作製した。
得られた液晶セル1中の輝点を、下記の方法により観察した。上記の再配向処理直後の液晶セル1を室温で2日放置し、その後、液晶セルの偏光顕微鏡観察を行った。重合性化合物の液晶への溶解性が低い場合、液晶セル中で析出しやすくなり、輝点が発生すると考えられる。輝点が発生しないものを良好、発生したものを不良とする。
得られた液晶セル1のAC由来の残像を、下記の方法により測定した。
液晶セル1に15VのDC電圧を印加した状態で、この液晶セル1の外側から、365nmのバンドパスフィルターを通したUVを6J/cm2照射した。なお、UVの照度は、ORC社製のUV-MO3Aを用いて測定した。その後、電圧を印加していない状態で、東芝ライテック社製のUV-FL照射装置を用いて、UV(UVランプ:FLR40SUV32/A-1)を30分間照射した。液晶セル1の両面に、偏光フィルムの偏光軸と液晶のディレクタが45°をなすように、偏光フィルムをクロスニコルの状態で貼り付けた。4つある画素のうち、任意の画素1つとその対角にある画素1つのみに、30Hz、20Vppの矩形波を70時間印加させた。電圧をきった後、液晶セルの電極同士を接続し、ショートさせた。その後、この液晶セルをバックライト上に置き、電圧印加画素と非電圧印加画素の輝度を目視によって比較した。残像特性が良好な場合、電圧印加画素と非電圧印加画素の輝度差が小さくなると考えられ、セルを正面から観察し、輝度差が視認できないものを良好、視認できるものを不良とした。
液晶セル1の作製において、4画素のIZO電極基板の代わりに、画素サイズが100μm×300μmで、ライン/スペースがそれぞれ5μmのITO電極パターンが形成されているITO電極基板を用い、3.3μmのビーズスペーサーの代わりに、4μmのビーズスペーサーを用いた以外は、液晶セル1の作製と同様の方法により、液晶セル2を作製した。
得られた液晶セル2に、15VのDC電圧を印加した状態で、この液晶セル2の外側から、365nmのバンドパスフィルターを通したUVを6J/cm2照射した。なお、UVの照度は、ORC社製のUV-MO3Aを用いて測定した。その後、電圧を印加していない状態で、UV-FL照射装置(東芝ライテック社製)を用いて、UV(UVランプ:FLR40SUV32/A-1)を30分間照射した。
LCDアナライザーLCA-LUV42A(名菱テクニカ社製)を用いて、UV照射後の画素部分のプレチルト角を測定した。
液晶配向剤L1の代りに、表2に示されるそれぞれの液晶配向剤を用いた以外は、実施例12と同様の操作を行って液晶セルを作製し、それぞれの液晶セルについて上記評価を行った。それら結果を、まとめて表2に示す。

また、実施例12、14、15と比較例7及び8との対比から、本発明の重合性化合物の分子構造の非対称化の方法(上記の方法1及び2)は、ベンゼン環に左右非対称となるように置換基を導入する方法(方法4)と比較して、AC由来の残像特性に優れることがわかる。
同様に、実施例12、14及び15と比較例9及び10の結果から、本発明の重合性化合物の分子構造の非対称化の方法は、左右の重合性基が異なる方法(方法3)と比較しても、AC由来の残像特性に優れることがわかる。
これは、重合性基の片方が環構造ではないメタクリル基の化合物と比較して、環構造のスタッキングが強いため、得られるポリマーのネットワークがより剛直となっているためと考えられる。

Claims (15)
- 前記重合性化合物(1)において、S1とS2が互いに異なる炭素数を有するアルキレン基である請求項1に記載の液晶配向剤。
- 前記重合性化合物(1)において、X1とX2のいずれか一方がエーテル結合であり、他方がエステル結合であるか、X1がカルボニル側でS1と結合するエステル結合であり、X2が酸素原子側でS2と結合するエステル結合である請求項1又は2に記載の液晶配向剤。
- ポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体が、液晶を垂直に配向させる側鎖を有する、請求項1~3のいずれかに記載の液晶配向剤。
- ポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体が、さらに光反応性の側鎖を有する、請求項1~4のいずれかに記載の液晶配向剤。
- 請求項1~5のいずれかに記載の液晶配向剤を用いてなる液晶配向膜。
- 請求項6に記載の液晶配向膜を有する液晶表示素子。
- ポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体を含有する液晶配向剤を、2枚の基板上に塗布して液晶配向層を形成し、前記液晶配向層が対向するように2枚の基板を配置し、上記2枚の基板の間に液晶層を挟持し、液晶層に電界を印加しながら紫外線を照射する垂直配向方式の液晶表示素子の製造方法であって、
液晶配向剤及び液晶層の少なくとも一方に、式(1)で表される重合性化合物を含有させることを特徴とする、液晶表示素子の製造方法。
- 前記重合性化合物(1)において、S1とS2が互いに異なる炭素数を有するアルキレン基である請求項8に記載の製造方法。
- 前記重合性化合物(1)において、X1とX2のいずれか一方がエーテル結合であり、他方がエステル結合であるか、X1がカルボニル側でS1と結合するエステル結合であり、X2が酸素原子側でS2と結合するエステル結合である請求項8又は9に記載の製造方法。
- ポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体が、液晶を垂直に配向させる側鎖を有する請求項8~10のいずれかに記載の製造方法。
- ポリイミド前駆体及びポリイミドからなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1つの重合体が、反応性の側鎖を有する請求項8~11のいずれかに記載の製造方法。
- 式(1)中、S1とS2が互いに異なる炭素数を有するアルキレン基である請求項13に記載の重合性化合物。
- 式(1)中、X1とX2のいずれか一方がエーテル結合であり、他方がエステル結合であるか、X1がカルボニル側でS1と結合するエステル結合であり、X2が酸素原子側でS2と結合するエステル結合である請求項13又は14に記載の重合性化合物。
