Abstract
A cargo ring, of the type used for lashing of objects in the loading boxes and/or luggage compartments of vehicles, of the type consisting of a base (2) which includes a curved profile (3) and a ring (1) which is bound to said base with a capacity for pivoting, with orifices (4) for the passage of elements for securing on the vehicle, said ring (1) receiving the external load, and said base (2) supporting said ring without any additional part through said curved profile (3), wherein said curved profile (3) comprises two types of main cross sections, a median cross section type (6) with a form approximately in the shape of an "A" and a cross section (8) of the type with a form approximately in the shape of an omega "Ω"; and having areas with transition walls (7) between said types of cross section with a form in the shape of an "A" (6) and said types of cross section with a form in the shape of an "Ω"(8).
Description
CARGO RING
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a cargo ring, of the type used for lashing of objects in the loading boxes and/or luggage compartments of vehicles, including a base for securing on the bodywork of the vehicle, and a hoop or ring secured on said base, wherein deformations have been made on this base surface which improve the resisting momentum of the part and its behavior in relation to the forces which it must withstand.
ANTECEDENTS
Cargo rings for loading boxes and luggage compartments of vehicles are known, the purpose of which is lashing by means of straps, ropes, etc. of the packages, objects and luggage to be transported, such that the latter are secured and do not move during transport. This type of fastening must withstand vibrations caused by the vehicle itself and/or its running, as well as significant forces in different directions as a direct result of the accelerations and changes of direction of the vehicle. Consequently they are manufactured so as to be robust, at the same time as being functional, and with a light appearance, above all when they are used in cars, where the size and weight of the part is a factor to be taken into account when it is being designed. Spanish Utility Model ES1068579U discloses a stowage ring wherein the inventive effort is oriented towards the joining of the ends which form the ring. In this
application, the ring is retained by means of a plate doubled in the form of a "C", which has a circular profile at its end, said cylindrical part being the part which retains the ring. The assembly is secured on the vehicle by means of a screw which passes through aligned orifices provided in each arm of the "C".
Spanish patent ES2400428 discloses a cargo ring with a style similar to that of the previous case, with a plastic cover. In this case, the cylindrical part which forms the grip of the ring incorporates a part of said cover, in the form of a small tube which improves the securing which the cylindrical part of the base provides relative to the ring.
The main objective of the present invention is to provide a simple cargo ring, of the type which does not require additional parts for its functioning, apart from the base, the ring and the securing screw.
Another one of the main objectives of the present invention is to provide a cargo ring, the form of which is optimized in order to provide improved inertia resistance of the part in comparison with the prior art, by improving the grip of the ring and its mechanical performance in relation to the forces which it must withstand .
These and other advantages of the present invention will become more apparent throughout its description.
BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention describes a cargo ring, of the type used for lashing of objects in the loading boxes and/or luggage compartments of vehicles, for example of the type consisting of a base with an area with a curved profile retaining a ring which is used to fasten the straps and belts which secure the loads on the vehicle.
The ring is connected, with a capacity to pivot, relative to the base, and the base is anchored on the bodywork of the vehicle by screws or other securing elements which pass through orifices provided in said base .
In the joining area between the base and the curved profile area, the cargo ring of the invention incorporates an enlargement or structural deformation of its surface, which creates different cross sections in relation to its proximity to the center of said curved profile and to the outer side of the profile.
Specifically, this structural arrangement creates in the median area a cross section with a form approximately in the shape of an "A", which optimizes the distribution of the load retention forces which the part withstands. On the other hand, in the end areas a lateral cross section with a form in the shape of an omega, "Ω", is created, which contributes towards optimizing the grip on the ring by the base. In addition, between the two aforementioned areas there are transition walls which provide the part with greater strength, thus improving its resisting momentum, and
thanks to which cross sections in the form of a double step are provided.
In the preferred embodiment, the base has heights which are differentiated between its right and left sides relative to the curved profile, in order to adapt in this specific application to a support surface with different heights. Similarly, the structural deformations which form the aforementioned cross sections have different sizes, and their different positions are adapted in relation to the ring. The invention can logically be applied to other embodiments with variations, which can be symmetrical or non¬ symmetrical, but have functionally similar deformations which however have a somewhat different form.
By this means, the present invention achieves all the objectives planned, by providing a cargo ring with improved performance wherein the ring is gripped adequately without additional parts, and withstands in an optimum manner the stresses to which it will be subj ected .
BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE DRAWINGS
For better understanding of the invention it is accompanied by three pages of drawings, provided purely by way of non-limiting illustration of the invention.
Figure 1 shows a representation in perspective of the preferred embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 2 shows a view from below of the embodiment in the previous figure.
Figures 3 and 4 both show lateral views of the embodiment in the previous figures.
Figure 5 is a front view of a cargo ring according to the present invention, in accordance with the embodiment shown in the previous figures.
Figures 6 and 7 are two cross sections of the previous figure, showing the areas of joining between the base of the cargo ring in the previous figure, and its curved profile area.
Figure 8 shows a schematized transverse cross section of a cargo ring according to the present invention, which cross section is produced in its area close to the side of the base, for the purpose of illustrating the form in the shape of an omega of its curved profile and the forces which intervene in the gripping of the ring.
Figure 9 shows another schematized transverse cross section of a cargo ring according to the present invention. In this case the cross section corresponds to the median area of the base, showing its form approximately in the shape of an "A" and the distribution of thrust forces on the cargo ring, thanks to the deformations of the surface of the base in the area of intersection with the curved profile.
Figure 10 is a front view of a cargo ring according to another one of the possible embodiments of the present invention . Figures 11 and 12 are two cross sections of the previous figure showing the different areas between the base of the cargo ring in the previous figure and its curved profile area. Figure 13 shows a representation in perspective of the embodiment shown in figures 10 to 12, indicating various areas of enlargement which form the transition between the flat area and the curve of the support base of the cargo ring.
DETAILED EXPLANATION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention consists of a cargo ring, of the type used for lashing of objects in the loading boxes and/or luggage compartments of vehicles, of the type consisting of a base 2 which includes a curved profile 3 and a ring 1 which is bound to said base with a capacity for pivoting.
This base 2 is preferably made of an austempered high- grade carbon steel plate, in order to obtain a high level of structural strength. It includes two orifices 4 which are used to secure the cargo ring on the structure of the vehicle by means of screws or other securing elements .
In the present invention, the base 2 receives the external load by means of the ring 1, and is supported
by said curved profile 3, without any other additional part. This ring can have different embodiments, one possible one being for example that of a low-grade carbon steel rod with its ends joined and welded.
In the preferred embodiment shown in the illustrations which accompany the present invention, the base 2 has two heights, i.e. one of its two parts, which are separated by said curved profile 6, is higher than the other, for the purpose of being installed on a support surface which has two heights. In other embodiments the part is symmetrical.
Said base 2 also has deformations or enlargements for structural reinforcement in its area of transition to said curved profile 6, and one deformation can have a larger size than the other.
The result of this structural arrangement in the present invention is that said curved profile 3 comprises two main cross sections, i.e. a median cross section 6 with a form approximately in the shape of an "A", and a lateral cross section 8 with a form approximately in the shape of an omega "Ω", with areas with transition walls 7 between said median cross section area 6 and said lateral cross section area 8.
The objective of this profile with cross sections which are differentiated according to their proximity to the side or the center of the curved profile 6 is to comply with various requirements. Firstly, as shown in the representation schematized in figure 8, the cross section of the side 8 with a form in the shape of an
omega, "Ω", permits optimum gripping of the ring 1. Figure 2 shows in a view from below how the combination of the central profile with a form in the shape of an "A" 6 and this lateral profile 8 with a form in the shape of an "Ω" make possible this optimized grip between the curved profile 6 and the base 2, relative to said ring 1.
For its part, in the median cross section 6, the profile has a form approximately in the shape of an "A", i.e. by constructing, as represented in a schematized manner in figure 9, a join which is approximately straight and direct between the apex of said curved profile 6 and the base 2. This permits optimum distribution of the forces applied on the ring 1, when it is subjected to stress in its forces of retention of the loads to be secured, which are transmitted directly to the area of retention of the base 2, i.e. to said orifices 4 in the base 2 and their screws or securing elements, which are not shown in the illustrations.
In other possible embodiments, as shown for example in the embodiment in figures 10 to 13, the invention includes arrangement of these cross sections with a form in the shape of an "A" 6 and a "Ω" 8 with varied positions, orders and numbers. By way of non-limiting examples, the combinations "Α-Ω-Α", "Α-Ω-Α-Ω-Α", "Ω-Α-Ω- Α-Ω", etc. are thus possible. The present invention also includes areas with transition walls 7 between said median cross section areas 6 and said lateral cross section areas 8. These
transition walls 7 are in fact strengthening walls which reinforce the structural inertia of the cargo ring. Said transition walls incorporate cross sections in the form of a double step 9, as shown in figures 6, 7, 11 and 12. These steps 9 contribute towards increasing considerably the resisting momentum of the part.
Although the preferred embodiment of the invention shown in the illustrations represents an asymmetrical part, the invention can be produced in other ways with different variations, for example by means of a symmetrical part with enlargements of the same size and the same height of said right and left sides of the base 2.
It is understood that in the present case any details of finishing and form can be varied provided that they do not modify the essence of the invention.
Claims
A cargo ring, of the type used for lashing of objects in the loading boxes and/or luggage compartments of vehicles, of the type consisting of a base (2) which includes a curved profile (3) and a ring (1) which is bound to said base with a capacity for pivoting, with orifices (4) for the passage of elements for securing on the vehicle, said ring (1) receiving the external load, and said base (2) supporting said ring without any additional part through said curved profile (3) , characterized in that said curved profile (3) includes a variable number and arrangement of two types of distinct cross sections, a cross section (6) with a form approximately in the shape of an "A" and the other a cross section (8) with a form approximately in the shape of an omega "Ω"; and having areas with transition walls (7) between said cross sections (6, 8) .
The cargo ring as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that said curved profile (3) includes cross sections in the order "Ω-Α-Ω", i.e. a median cross section (6) with a form approximately in the shape of an "A", and, at its sides, two cross sections with a form approximately in the shape of an omega "Ω" .
The cargo ring as claimed in either of the preceding claims, characterized in that said transition walls (7) are strengthening walls which
include cross sections in the form of a double or multiple step (9) .
The cargo ring as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that said base (2) is an austempered high-grade carbon steel metal plate .
The cargo ring as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that said base (2) has deformations or enlargements for structural reinforcement in its area of transition with said curved profile (6) . 6. The cargo ring as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that said base (2) has two heights on its right and left sides relative to said curved profile (3) , one side being higher than the other.
7. The cargo ring as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that said deformations of said base (2) have different sizes.
