Definitions
- the present invention relates to an exhaust hood for use above a cooking range.
- the present invention more particularly relates to a light fixture mounting plate of the exhaust hood.
- An exhaust hood is usually provided with a lighting facility for illuminating the cooking range.
- the lighting facility of an exhaust hood typically includes a light fixture for supporting an incandescent lamp, a halogen lamp, or a fluorescent lamp.
- the light fixture provides electrical connection to the lamp and is usually inserted into a recess of a mounting plate of the main body by way of manual insertion.
- the light fixture usually has two diametrically opposing spring tabs which prop up against the inner surface of the mounting plate upon manual insertion of the light fixture into the aperture during an assembly process. These spring tabs prevent the light fixture from falling out of the aperture in the mounting plate.
- EP 2 662 636 discloses an exhaust hood for use above a cooking range.
- This exhaust hood has a light fixture mounting plate which includes a plurality of apertures each for receiving a lighting facility.
- the removable parts, in particular the light fixture may start producing noise due to the vibrations.
- the noise is very unpleasant for the customer.
- a major reason for the noise is the clearance between the mounting plate and the light fixture.
- the clearance is reduced or totally eliminated by reducing the size of the aperture, the mating of the light fixture and the mounting plate during the assembly becomes increasingly more complicated. Therefore a certain amount of clearance is indispensable for enabling an unimpeded manual insertion of the light fixture.
- the clearance also increases when the spring tabs do not adequately prop up against the amounting plate. In such case the light fixture becomes loose and slightly hangs down.
- An objective of the present invention is to provide an exhaust hood which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art in a cost efficient way and which has a light fixture mounting plate that can be easily manufactured and assembled with a light fixture.
- the mounting plate is made of metal and has a plurality of metal tabs which are integrally formed around the periphery of the aperture.
- the metal tabs extend towards the center of the aperture.
- the metal tabs are inwardly bendable upon insertion of the light fixture into the aperture during an assembly process so as to push the light fixture towards the center of the aperture.
- each metal tab is formed into a recess on the periphery of the aperture.
- the metal tabs project out of the recesses towards the center of the aperture.
- the two spring tabs of the light fixture are guidable through two diametrically opposing recesses which have a shape that matches the two spring tabs.
- Two metal tabs directly push the spring tabs towards the center of the aperture.
- the spring tabs are prevented from relaxing and moving away from the center of the aperture. Thereby, the light fixture can be secured to its designated position without play.
- the metal tabs which push the spring tabs of the light fixture are larger in size than the other metal tabs. Thereby, the light fixture can be more reliably secured to its designated position.
- each recess has a depth which is equal to or larger than the thickness of the metal tab. Thereby a sufficient space for bending the metal tab is secured. Each metal tab is suffiently long to project out of the corresponding recess.
- the metal tabs are formed so as to diametrically oppose each other.
- the metal tabs are uniformly spaced around the aperture.
- each metal tab has an elongated shape.
- the metal tabs are flat. In this embodiment, the metal tabs are flush with the metal mounting plate prior to insertion of the light fixture into the aperture.
- the metal mounting plate and the light fixtures can be assembled without play.
- each light fixture remains firmly in contact with the metals tabs of the corresponding aperture.
- the light fixtures can be prevented from producing any unpleasant noise during the operation of the exhaust hood.
- the mounting plate can be easily assembled with the light fixtures solely by way of insertion.
- the need for any screws or the like during the assembly process has been obviated.
- the manufacturing and assembly cost have been reduced both in labor and material.
- the present invention can be applied to ordinary light fixtures commonly available on the market.
- the present invention can also be applied to mounting plates with different thicknesses. Thereby different strength requirements can be easily met in accordance with a specific design of the exhaust hood. With the present invention, a consumer satisfaction can be increased.

- the metal tabs (7,107) are respectively formed into the corresponding recesses (8,108) so as to project out of the corresponding recesses (8,108) towards the center of the aperture (3).
- the metal tabs (7,10) can be more easily and smoothly bent to their designated positions as the light fixture (4) is inserted and become flush with the periphery of the aperture (3) while contacting the light fixture (4) and pushing the same towards the center of the aperture (3).
- the recesses (8,108) comprise, among the others, two diametrically opposing recesses (108) which have a shape that respectively matches the shape of the corresponding spring tabs (5).
- the two spring tabs (5) are guidable through these two diametrically opposing recesses (108) respectively upon insertion of the light fixture (4) into the aperture (3) during an assembly process.
- the metal tabs (107) of these two diametrically opposing recesses (108) push the spring tabs (5) towards the center of the aperture (3).
- the spring tabs (5) are prevented from relaxing and moving away from the center of the aperture (3). Thereby, the light fixture (4) can be secured to its designated position without play.
- the metal tabs (107) which correspond to the spring tabs (5) are larger in size than the other metal tabs (7). Thereby, the light fixture (4) can be more reliably secured to its designated position.
