  • Gripping device and pipe handling system comprising at least one gripping device
  • the invention relates to a gripping device for tubular elements, and to a pipe handling system for a platform comprising one or more gripping devices. Background of the invention
  • Pipe handling apparatuses are used in a number of applications today.
  • a gripping device as described herein is particularly useful on a platform deck, both onshore and offshore, for handling different pipes.
  • Pipe handling apparatus are normally used for a number of operations on a platform deck, for example, as a component in a so-called vertical pipe racker (VPR) and stand builder tool (SBT), which operations may comprise:
  • VPR vertical pipe racker
  • SBT stand builder tool
  • gripping rollers exist where the rollers are arranged with an axis of rotation that will be parallel to the pipe held in the gripping roller, for example, power tongs etc.

  • the lifting head is usually equipped with a gripping claw provided with dies and a gripping claw provided with gripping rollers.
  • Vertical pipes e.g., a stand

  • the head should also be able to lift the pipe in that the larger diameter at the end of the pipe cannot pass through the head, or, in other words, pass through the dies.
