Definitions
- the invention relates to an automotive suitable display with Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diodes, a so-called AMOLED.
- TFT-LCD thin-film-transistor liquid crystal display
- OLED organic light-emitting diode
- AMOLEDs Active matrix OLEDs
- AMOLEDs are self-luminous, d. h., the OLED is not a light valve like an LCD and does not require a backlight (backlight). AMOLEDs are without backlight due to the design very thin and therefore attractive. AMOLEDs have an extremely high contrast due to the self-lighting.
- the luminescent property of AMOLEDs has the disadvantage that the OLED material loses luminosity with increasing operating time. This effect can essentially be explained by two physical principles. On the one hand, a current flow leads to burnout, so each pixel loses luminosity, the longer it is driven. On the other hand, a pixel also loses luminosity, the higher the Ambient temperature is.
- the different baking behavior of the individual basic colors ⁇ has the disadvantage means that the color location shifts White with increasing service life, since white of the three primary colors ⁇ and their ratio is mixed together.
- a display according to the invention comprises a control unit and a plurality of AMOLED subpixels (R, G, B).
- the control unit may be configured to detect the temperature of at least one of the AMOLED subpixels and to drive the plurality of AMOLED subpixels based on the measured temperature.
- aging can be counteracted on the basis of a detected temperature or temperature distribution. For example, at a high measured Conversely ⁇ ambient temperature of the power flow to the AMOLED subpixels can be reduced, so that there is no further increase in temperature.
- control unit may be a ⁇ directed further to drive the plurality of AMOLED subpixels on the basis of an intensity of the control of individual AMOLED Sub ⁇ pixel.
- a current flow to the AMOLED subpixels can be detected. Since the current flow has an influence on self-heating of the AMOLED subpixels, a stop ⁇ approximately compensation can be achieved based on the detected value.
- control unit can be set up to control the plurality of AMOLED subpixels on the basis of a duration of the activation of individual AMOLED subpixels.
- control unit may be configured to control the plurality of AMOLED subpixels on the basis of predetermined aging characteristics.
- characteristic curves for aging characteristics are determined, independent of a specific display.
- the characteristic ⁇ lines characterize the intensity of light relative to a light duration. Such characteristics may then be used as a basis for a compen sation ⁇ aging effects of AMOLED subpixels.
- a display may further comprise a luminance sensor.
- the control unit may be adapted in this case, be determined on the basis of an output ⁇ signal of the luminance sensor, a burnout individual AMOLED sub-pixel or a reference group of AMOLED sub-pixels and to drive the plurality of AMOLED subpixels of the display based on the Ausbrenn s determined ,
- AMOLED subpixel control unit may be adapted according to an out ⁇ leadership form, less heavily used AMOLED subpixel down to dim in comparison to higher stress AMOLED subpixels. In this way may be homogenized a light ⁇ density and a color point on the display surface.
- a display comprises a memory, for example for storing an operational history of each of the AMOLED subpixels.
- the control unit may in this case be arranged to control the plurality of AMOLED subpixels on the basis of the operating history.
- a power ⁇ vehicle on a display of the type described above is provided.
- the following benefits result from the use of the self-emitting OLED technology with the properties of the burn-out behavior (greater luminance reduction of the luminous pixels compared to the non-luminous) for use in the motor vehicle is made possible. It is reucked ⁇ an operating current at rising temperatures, with which the self-heating is reduced and the service life is extended Le ⁇ , on the basis of detection of the operating temperature of the OLED displays.
- a correction of the burn-out behavior can be provided by means of a storage of the operating state or the operating history (energization and temperature) of the subpixels or characteristic pixels in a memory and a use of this data.
- Correction of the burn-out behavior can be provided by using the characteristic life behavior (luminance over temperature and time) of the OLED material.
- a burn-out correction may be provided by using an FPGA or ASIC in combination with a memory to implement a corresponding algorithm.
- the calculation rule for correcting the burn-out behavior can be implemented in the FPGA or ASIC and may include that less heavily energized pixels are dimmed back accordingly and thus the aging behavior is compensated.
- the FPGA or ASIC can be switched between the output of the image source (eg graphics controller or LVDSDeserializer) and the input of the image sink (OLED display).
- a luminance homogenization over the lifetime and temperature can be achieved, using the ⁇ called possibilities, both an individual as well as a Combination of the same.
- a computer program may be provided for implementing a method that implements the aforementioned aspects of aging compensation in a control unit of a display as described above.
- a ent ⁇ speaking computer program is preferably loaded into an Ar ⁇ beits Grande a control unit.
- Such a computer program may be stored on a computer readable medium such as a CD-ROM or FLASH drive.
- the computer program can also be provided via a network such as the Internet and can be downloaded into the working ⁇ memory of the control unit from this network.
