Definitions
- the present invention refers, in general, to a safety belt. More particularly, the invention refers to a safety belt that provides greater safety and comfort to the user.
- Safety belts are known, for instance safety belts for motor vehicles, which consist of a flexible band adapted to partially surround the body of the user.
- the band is made of a texture of twisted polymer wires.
- the safety belts allow to avoid the impact of the user against the internal structures and/or his/her protection out of the passenger compartment of the motor vehicle.
- Another function of the safety belt is to dispose the occupant in the most correct posture in order to reduce the violence of a possible impact, for instance against an airbag.
- a conventional typology of safety belt is the so-called three-point safety belt, as visible in Figure 1 in which C denotes the body of a user sitting on a seat S, fixed for instance to the frame T of a vehicle.
- a band F which usually has a thickness of 4 millimeters and a width of 5 centimeters according to the current legislation, comes out of a retractor A, fixed to the frame T, passing through an oscillating ring O and wrapping the body of the user to the end of the band F opposite the retractor A, the band being fixed to the frame by means of an anchorage B.
- another anchorage device is fixed to the frame T and receive an anchorage flap which is slidably constrained to the band F.
- the band F passes through three points so as to wrap the body C of the user on maintaining the necessary tension for the maintenance of a correct position relative to the seat S.
- the known safety belts allow to protect the body of the user by reducing the dangerousness of the impact of the chest with the steering wheel, in case of a sudden stop, the safety belts often provoke also abdominal pain and damage to the ribs and the clavicles.
- the injuries include:
- intra-abdominal injuries caused by compression such as indirect trauma-blunt trauma such as contusion, laceration and rupture, with particular regard to the intestinal loops and vascular elements;
- - thoracic injuries such as blunt trauma that may be caused by a sudden compression/crushing of the chest with the point of application of force of the belt (vascular structures of the lung); these lesions may directly involve the clavicle, the ribs, the sternum (contusion, dislocation, fractures) and rarely the breast;
- Another problem in using safety belts is the sliding or rubbing of the band F on the body C of the user. Said sliding or rubbing may damage the skin or the clothes worn, in particular when the clothes are made of delicate fabrics such as velvet, fur or more.
- An aim of the present invention is to carry out a safety belt capable of overcoming the problems of the safety belts known.
- Another aim of the invention is to carry out a safety belt that keeps the body of the user in position in case of acceleration and/or deceleration, so as to avoid or severely limit damages and/or pains to the body of the user and damages to the clothes worn.
- a safety belt for containing the body of a user in safety in a predetermined position inside a vehicle, comprising a main body shaped like a ribbon.
- the safety belt provides that a first hole and a second hole are formed in said main body.
- the safety belt is characterized by the fact that the first hole is larger than the second hole and that the first hole and the second hole are formed in the main body in different positions according to their correspondence to the various portions of the body of the user.
- the safety belt may provide that the width of said main body exceeds 5 centimeters.
- a width exceeding 5 centimeters allows to distribute the load, on the body of the user, on a larger bearing surface than the safety belts known so that it is possible to obtain a lower pressure on the various parts of the body of the user wrapped by the main body of the safety belt according to the invention.
- the presence of more holes or breathable portions improves the transpiration of the body of the user through the main body of the safety belt.
- At least one of said first hole and second hole may be a through hole so as to allow an even better breathability, with a direct short path from the body of the user to the outside of the main body of the safety belt.
- the main body may be made, at least partially, of a material resistant to traction so as to limit and/or avoid further stretching between body of the user and frame of the vehicle in any situation of acceleration and/or relative deceleration.
- the main body may be made, at least partially, of a material having a greater tensile strength than textures of wires made of plastic polymers so as to obtain a higher tensile strength than that of the safety belts of the prior art.
- the main body may be made, at least partially, of Kevlar® or materials having an equivalent tensile strength so as to obtain an excellent tensile strength and at the same time, an extreme lightness.
- the main body may have a width between 10 centimeters and 15 centimeters so as to cover the distance between the attack of the neck and the attack of the arm to the shoulder of the user.
- the width of the main body may exceed 15 centimeters.
- the main body may comprise a shaped profile at the body portion adjacent to the shoulder so as to be better adapted to the same body portion and to ensure a better comfort and obtain a greater width of the main body of the safety belt.
- the main body may be covered, at least partially, of a material soft and/or smooth to the touch so that it is more comfortable and is prevented from damaging the skin of the user or the clothes worn by the user.
- the main body may be coated, at least partially, with rubber and/or plastic.
- the safety belt may be shaped like a belt or a backpack strap or shoulder strap adapted to be fixed with its ends to an article such as a bag, a camera, an agricultural tool such as a brush cutter or more.
- Said belt, strap or shoulder strap has the features defined above in a similar manner to the safety belt defined previously.
- Fig. 1 shows a schematic perspective view of a safety belt made according to the prior art
- Fig. 2 shows a schematic perspective view of a safety belt made according to the invention
- Fig. 3 shows a schematic front view of a safety belt made according to a variant of the invention.
- reference number 10 denotes a safety belt comprising a main body 12 secured at a first anchor point 14 to the chassis T of a vehicle.
- the main body 12 develops so as to wrap the sub-abdominal area of a body C of a user sitting on a seat S.
- the main body 12 of the safety belt After wrapping the sub abdominal area of the body C of the user, the main body 12 of the safety belt passes through an anchor loop, not visible in the figure, which is conveniently bound to the vehicle chassis T.
- the main body 12 is free to slide inside the anchor loop which forms a second anchor point for the main body 12 to the vehicle chassis T.
- the main body 12 of the safety belt After passing through the anchor loop, the main body 12 of the safety belt wraps the bust of the body C of the user diagonally until reaching near the head of the body C where the main body 12 of the safety belt passes through an oscillating ring 18 which is constrained to the vehicle chassis T.
- the main body 2 is free to slide inside the oscillating ring 18 which forms a third anchor point for the main body 12 to the vehicle chassis T.
- the main body 12 of the safety belt After passing through the oscillating ring 18, the main body 12 of the safety belt reaches a winder 20 and is conveniently wound on the winder 20.
- the winder 20 keeps the main body 12 in tension by applying a predetermined traction force to the main body 12 so that the entire length of the main body 12 from the first anchor point 14 to the oscillating ring 18 is kept in tension in order to conveniently wrap the body C of the user and keep the user in a correct position on the seat S.
- the main body 12 is conveniently divided into three portions.
- a first portion is defined from the first anchor point 14 to the anchor loop, a second portion is defined from the anchor loop to the oscillating ring 18 and a third portion is defined from the oscillating ring 18 to the winder 20.
- the width of the main body 12 exceeds the 5 centimeters of the straps forming the known seat belts. Preferably, the width exceeds 10 centimeters so as to distribute the load on the user body C on a larger bearing surface than the known safety belts. In this way, it is possible to obtain a lower pressure on the various parts of the user body C wrapped by the main body 12 of the safety belt.
- the main body 12 of the safety belt 10 In order to further reduce the pressure applied on the user body C it is preferable to produce the main body 12 of the safety belt 10 with a width included between 10 centimeters and 15 centimeters so as not to exceed the distance between the attack of the neck and the attack of the arm to the shoulder of the user, namely the area of the user body C where the second portion of the main body 12 of the safety belt, in the vicinity of the oscillating ring 18, rests more.
- the series of holes 22 is made by varying size and shape of each hole according to the hole position with respect to the part of the body C to which it is close when the safety belt 10 is arranged as described previously.
- the series of holes 22 may have holes having larger dimensions in correspondence of the first portion or the second portion or the third portion so as to obtain a specific behavior varying the considered portion, or more specifically, varying the particular body area close to the hole whose dimension and shape are to be determined.
- the main body 12 is conveniently made of a material having a tensile strength higher than the polymer strands utilized in the known safety belts.
- the main body 12 comprises a material having a higher tensile strength than the steel tensile strength, such as Kevlar® or equivalent materials defined high-strength materials below.
- Kevlar® or equivalent materials defined high-strength materials below.
- the use of these high-strength materials allows to considerably reduce the thickness of the main body in comparison with the known safety belts and to increase the flexibility and reduce the overall volume.
- the thickness of the high-strength material can be, for example, of the order of tenths of a millimeter, preferably 1 or 2 tenths of a millimeter.
- the main body 12 is coated with one or more covering materials that are soft and fluffy, for instance plastic and/or rubber so that the main body 12 is more comfortable and does not damage the skin of the user or the clothes worn by the user.
- the use of such covering material gives the main body 12 of the safety belt characteristics of flexibility, softness and smoothness that allow to wrap the body C of the user and adapt more easily to the profile of the thorax and abdomen than the safety belts of the prior art.
- the realization of through holes in the main body 12 allows a direct transpiration through the main body 12 itself so as to further better the comfort of use of the safety belt according to the invention.
- a safety belt 50 comprises a main body 52 in which a series of holes 54 is formed.
- the main body 52 comprises a shaped profile in correspondence of the portion 56 adjacent to the shoulder so as to be better adapted to the portion of the user body C.
- the shaping deviates from a straight line and forms a C-curvature 56 in the plane of the width. This shaping, obtained in correspondence of the portion of the user body C adjacent to the shoulder, allows to follow more anatomically the shape of the user body C and to obtain an increased support surface, which is useful for the distribution of the load and the reduction of the pressure that the user body C has to bear.
- a shaping allows to ensure a better comfort and also to increase the width of the main body of the safety belt.
- the width of the main body 52 greater than the width of the known safety belts, implies also a lower twist due to the forces of inertia resulting from an accident.
- the characteristics of the main body 12 of the safety belt according to the invention may be utilized in the realization of shoulder straps for backpacks or shoulder straps for bags or other articles to be carried so as to obtain a better behavior of the shoulder strap also in these sectors of utilization or more.
- the safety belt according to the invention may be applied not only on motor vehicles but it is usable also as a safety belt for any seat such as the passenger seats in an airplane.
