Definitions
- the invention is concerned with the subject of the safe transport of a particularly insensitive ammunition (IM). It is envisaged to incorporate a type of ventilation concept (IM venting) into an ammunition box which will be activated when the ammunition box is exposed to a higher temperature and / or an internal pressure builds up which could lead to critical situations.
- IM venting a type of ventilation concept
- the boxes filled with ammunition are exposed by an external heat source - fire at Fast Cook-Of, heat at Slow Cook Of.
- the explosives are heated to the auto-ignition temperature, which can lead to reactions.
- the lid of the box can be blown off and / or ammunition parts can be thrown out.
- a container in particular for receiving ammunition, which comprises a so-called venting system.
- a fusible link between a lower flange and an upper flange is integrated with a sealing flange.
- the fusible material has a melting point below the ignition temperature of the ammunition. Depending on the application, this melting point is between 190 ° F and 270 ° F.
- the material proposed is synthetic material, preferably an ionomeric (thermoplastic) plastic reinforced with glass fibers, which has a melting point of about 250 ° F to about 270 ° F. If the ammunition container is subject to such a high temperature, the material melts and ensures a venting of the container.
- a cartridge ammunition is known, which is filled in channels with a fusible, solid and pressure-tight material whose melting temperature is lower than the ignition temperature of the pyrotechnic ignition device.
- the channels rejuvenate towards their exit, which reduces the firing of cartridge cartridges. ori occurring high pressures are collected, so that prevents the melted metal! begins to flow and the channels are released.
- the cartridge is heated to the melting temperature of the molding material, the material melts. If the primer and thus the propellant charge are ignited at further increasing temperatures, no pressure can build up in the propellant chamber.
- the exposed passages act as pressure relief ports.
- US 2003/0205161 A describes a projectile whose bottom is closed off by a lid, which is held in the projectile by an externally located sealing ring made of a melting material. When the temperature rises, this sealing ring melts, so that the lid is released from the ground and an explosive ignition of the actual active charge is prevented.
- the invention has as its object to show a Munitionsbox that realizes a secure transport for particular IM ammunition.
- the invention is based on the idea of incorporating a type of ventilation concept (IM - Venting) into a box itself, the ventilation concept then being put into action when the box is exposed to a higher temperature and / or an internal pressure builds up which leads to critical situations could.
- This may preferably be an already existing or known box, such as an ammunition box. If desired, the other properties of the box can be retained.
- Holes and / or openings in the wall of the crate are integrated into the crate at defined locations as exhaust openings for the integration of the venting system. These can be filled with a fusible material. This makes the box waterproof and dustproof. As a result, a retrofit is possible. Similar to the solution for insensitive ammunition, the exhaust openings are opened upon reaching a certain internal pressure or a critical temperature. The appropriate fusible material is turned off to the maximum allowable temperature. Through these openings, the internal pressure can escape.
- the openings or openings can also be closed with a defined thin-walled material or a plug.
- the plug or thin-walled material is pushed outward. Plug and material are again at the maximum in the box.
- intractable internal pressure Taken intractable internal pressure.
- a combination of both variants has the charm that temperature and internal pressure can be taken into account as parameters for the venting system.
- Below the box closure is a closure opener, which is driven by the venting system. This shutter opener is designed so that when the venting system is triggered on the end faces, the pressure is absorbed axially and the shutter of the box is opened.
- the venting system itself is designed so that neither the stability nor the environmental resistance of the box are adversely affected.
- the venting system also improves the IM properties of the ammunition itself in an ammunition box.
- FIG. 1 shows a ammunition box with a venting system according to the invention
- 1 a is a side view of the ammunition box of FIG. 1,
- Fig. 3a, b is a schematic diagram of a shutter opener.
- FIG. 1a show a box or box 1, here an ammunition box, with a cover 2, a venting system 3 in the ammunition box 1 and a box closure 4.
- a venting system 3 for the integration of the venting system 3 at defined locations holes / openings. 5 placed in the box wall. These points are located laterally and / or in the lid 2 of the ammunition box 1. Holes or openings 5 can also be provided in the bottom area. These openings or holes 5 are closed with a (defined) thin-walled material or plug 6 (FIG. 2). This ensures that the ammunition box 1 is waterproof and dirt-proof.
- the thin-walled material / plug 6 may itself be meltable. Alternatively, it is provided that this material / the plug 6 burst to release the holes 5.
- the venting system 3 is triggered.
- the increase in internal pressure can also be due to an increase in the temperature that may be subject to the ammunition box.
- the increase in temperature leads to melting of the material / plug 6.
- This can also cause the venting system 3 to be triggered, the bores 5 to be released and the internal pressure to be reduced.
- a so-called closure opener 7 can be integrated below the box closure 4, which can be triggered and / or driven by the venting system 3, in addition to the opening of the box 1 by hand.
- This shutter opener 7 is designed so that when the venting system 3 is triggered on the front sides, the pressure of the material and / or plug 6 or the internal pressure itself is absorbed axially, which is sufficient to open the closure 4 of the box 1. As a result, the shutter 4 is pushed away from the box 1, the ceiling! 2 can, here in the context of a closing bow, yield. This lid 2 releases the opening of the box 1, which can open itself to a small degree.
- Fig. 3a in a plan view
- Fig. 3b in a side view.
- the "defined" thin-walled material and the stopper 6 are quantitatively chosen so that they take over the function of opening the shutter 4, but can be driven out of the holes themselves by the influence of internal pressure.
- metallic alloys such as tin-bismuth, in which the melting temperature is about 138, are also suitable as the fusible material.
