 少なくとも第1タンクと第2タンクとを備える燃料タンク内の燃料残量を検出する燃料レベルセンサの故障診断装置であって、燃料レベルセンサの出力値に基づいて、燃料レベルセンサの出力特性に応じて区分けされた燃料残量の領域を判定する領域判定手段と、領域が変化してからの燃料消費量と、領域ごとに個別に設定された故障判定閾値とを比較して、領域ごとに燃料レベルセンサの故障診断を行う領域故障診断手段と、を備え、領域故障診断手段は、燃料消費先が前記第1タンクから前記第2タンクへと切り替わるときに燃料レベルセンサの出力値の変化が少なくなる不感帯領域において、故障判定閾値を、不感帯領域を抜けるために必要な燃料消費量相当の値とする。

Description

燃料レベルセンサの故障診断装置及び燃料レベルセンサの故障診断方法
 本発明は燃料レベルセンサの故障診断装置及び燃料レベルセンサの故障診断方法に関する。
 JP10-184479Aに記載の従来の燃料レベルセンサの故障診断装置は、所定の燃料を消費したときの燃料レベルセンサの出力値変化量が、所定の故障判定閾値未満のときに燃料レベルセンサが故障と判定していた。
 しかしながら、前述した従来の燃料レベルセンサの故障診断装置では、燃料レベルセンサの出力値が燃料消費の途中で一時的にほとんど変化しなくなる不感帯領域が存在する場合、誤判定をするおそれがあるという問題点があった。
 本発明はこのような問題点に着目してなされたものであり、燃料レベルセンサの故障診断において誤判定が行われるのを抑制することを目的とする。
 本発明のある態様によれば、少なくとも第1タンクと第2タンクとを備える燃料タンク内の燃料残量を検出する燃料レベルセンサの故障診断装置が提供される。そして、その燃料レベルセンサの故障診断装置が、燃料レベルセンサの出力値に基づいて、燃料レベルセンサの出力特性に応じて区分けされた燃料残量の領域を判定する領域判定手段と、領域が変化してからの燃料消費量と、領域ごとに個別に設定された故障判定閾値とを比較して、領域ごとに燃料レベルセンサの故障診断を行う領域故障診断手段と、を備える。そして、領域故障診断手段は、燃料消費先が前記第1タンクから前記第2タンクへと切り替わるときに燃料レベルセンサの出力値の変化が少なくなる不感帯領域において、故障判定閾値を、不感帯領域を抜けるために必要な燃料消費量相当の値とする。

 以下、図面を参照して本発明の一実施形態について説明する。
 図1は、本発明の一実施形態による燃料供給装置100の概略構成図である。
 燃料供給装置100は、エンジンを備える車両等に搭載される。燃料供給装置100は、燃料タンク1と、ポンプモジュール2と、燃料レベルセンサ3と、コントローラ4と、を備える。
 燃料タンク1は、鞍型形状のタンクであって、メインタンク11と、サブタンク12と、を備える。燃料タンク1内の燃料は、サブタンク12内の燃料から消費される。
 ポンプモジュール2は、メインタンク11に設けられ、燃料ポンプ21と、燃料フィルタ22と、プレッシャレギュレータ23と、ジェットポンプ24と、を備える。
 燃料ポンプ21は、燃料タンク1内の燃料を汲み上げ、燃料配管5を介して燃料タンク1内の燃料をエンジンに供給する。
 燃料フィルタ22は、燃料ポンプ21の下流に設けられる。燃料フィルタ22は、燃料タンク1内の燃料に含まれる異物を除去する。
 プレッシャレギュレータ23は、燃料ポンプ21によって汲み上げられた燃料の余剰分を燃料タンク1内に戻すことで、供給する燃料の圧力を一定に保つ。
 ジェットポンプ24は、プレッシャレギュレータ23から燃料タンク1内に戻される燃料が、ジェットポンプ24内部のベンチュリーを通過するときに発生する負圧を利用してサブタンク12内の燃料を吸い上げ、吸い上げた燃料を移送配管6を通してメインタンク11へ送り込む。
 燃料レベルセンサ3は、ポンプモジュール2に取り付けられるメインセンサ31と、サブタンク12に取り付けられるサブセンサ32と、を備え、燃料タンク1内の燃料残量を検出する。燃料レベルセンサ3は、燃料タンク1内の燃料残量に応じた電圧値(以下「レベルセンサ出力値」という。)FLをコントローラ4に入力する。
 コントローラ4は、中央演算装置(CPU)、読み出し専用メモリ(ROM)、ランダムアクセスメモリ(RAM)、及び入出力インタフェース(I/Oインタフェース)を備えたマイクロコンピュータで構成される。コントローラ4には、前述した燃料レベルセンサ3の検出信号(レベルセンサ出力値FL)のほか、車速を検出する車速センサ41などの車両の走行に必要な各種センサからの検出信号が入力される。
 コントローラ4は、入力された各種センサの検出信号に基づいてエンジンを制御すると共に、燃料レベルセンサ3の故障診断を実施する。ここで本実施形態では、燃料レベルセンサ3の出力特性を考慮して、燃料レベルセンサ3の故障診断を実施する。
 図2は、燃料レベルセンサ3の出力特性について説明する図である。
 図2に示すように、レベルセンサ出力値FLは、燃料残量が所定の第1残量よりも多い領域(以下「満タン領域」という。)では所定の下限値FLllのままほとんど変化せず、燃料残量が所定の第4残量よりも少ない領域(以下「エンプティ領域」)でも所定の上限値FLulのままほとんど変化しない。
 一方、第1残量から第4残量までの領域では、レベルセンサ出力値FLは、基本的に燃料残量が減少していくにつれて上昇していく。なお、燃料残量が第1残量から所定の第2残量になるまでの領域(以下「サブタンク領域」という。)は、サブタンク12内の燃料が消費される領域である。燃料残量が第3残量から所定の第4残量になるまでの領域(以下「メインタンク領域」という。)は、メインタンク11内の燃料が消費される領域である。図2に示すように、燃料残量の変化に対するレベルセンサ出力値FLの変化は、メインタンク領域よりもサブタンク領域の方が大きくなる。
 ここで、本実施形態のように燃料タンク1が鞍型形状をしている場合は、燃料消費の途中でサブタンク12内の燃料を消費する状態からメインタンク11内の燃料を消費する状態に切り替わる。この切り替わりの前後、すなわち、燃料残量が所定の第2残量から第3残量になるまでの領域は、燃料が消費されてもレベルセンサ出力値FLがほとんど変化しない「不感帯領域」が生じる。
 したがって、例えば従来例のように、所定の燃料を消費したときのレベルセンサ出力値FLの変化量が故障判定閾値未満のときに燃料レベルセンサ3が故障と判定する方法では、この不感帯領域において誤判定を行うおそれがあった。
 そこで本実施形態では、燃料残量の領域に応じてこの故障判定閾値を変更することによって誤判定を抑制するとともに、故障診断の実施頻度を確保することとした。以下、この本実施形態による燃料レベルセンサ3の故障診断について説明する。
 図3は、本実施形態による燃料レベルセンサ3の故障診断について説明するフローチャートである。コントローラ4は、本ルーチンを所定の演算周期で繰り返し実行する。
 ステップS1において、コントローラ4は、燃料レベルセンサ3の故障診断を実施するための許可条件が成立しているかを判定する。コントローラ4は、許可条件が成立していなければ今回の処理を終了し、許可条件が成立していればステップS2の処理を行う。なお、許可条件としては、前述した各種センサが断線や短絡等の明らかな故障を起こしていないことや、CAN通信に異常が生じていないこと等がある。
 ステップS2において、コントローラ4は、各種センサの検出値を読み込む。
 ステップS3において、コントローラ4は、燃料残量の領域判定処理を実施する。領域判定処理の詳細については、図4を参照して後述する。
 ステップS4において、コントローラ4は、検出したレベルセンサ出力値FLに基づいて、後述するリセット処理が行われてからのレベルセンサ出力値FLの最小値及び最大値を更新していく。なお、最小値は、基本的にリセット処理直後のレベルセンサ出力値FLなる。一方で最大値は、リセット処理が行われてから燃料が消費されるにしたがってレベルセンサ出力値FLが上昇していくので、レベルセンサ出力値FLを検出するごとに基本的に更新されていく。
 ステップS5において、コントローラ4は、燃料レベルセンサ3の通常故障診断処理を実施する。具体的には、リセット処理が行われてからのレベルセンサ出力値FLの変化量、すなわち前述の最大値と最小値の差が、所定の通常故障判定閾値FLnor以上になったか否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLの変化量が、通常故障判定閾値FLnor以上であればステップS6の処理を行い、そうでなければステップS8の処理を行う。
 ステップS6において、コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが変化しているので、燃料レベルセンサ3は正常であると判定する。
 ステップS7において、コントローラ4は、リセット処理を実施する。具体的には、レベルセンサ出力値FLの最小値及び最大値を初期化する。
 ステップS8において、コントローラ4は、燃料残量の領域に応じて個別に行われる燃料レベルセンサ3の領域故障診断処理を実施する。燃料レベルセンサ3の領域故障診断処理の詳細については、図5を参照して後述する。
 ステップS9にいて、コントローラ4は、領域故障診断処理で燃料レベルセンサ3が故障と判定されたか否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、領域故障診断処理で燃料レベルセンサ3が故障と判定されていたときはステップS7の処理を行い、そうでなければ今回の処理を終了する。
 図4は、燃料残量の領域判定処理について説明するフローチャートである。
 ステップS31において、コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが下限値FLll以下か否か判定する。コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが下限値FLll以下であればステップS32の処理を行い、そうでなければステップS33の処理を行う。
 ステップS32において、コントローラ4は、満タン領域と判定する。
 ステップS33において、コントローラ4は、前回の燃料残量の領域が不感帯領域であったか否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、前回の燃料残量の領域が不感帯領域以外であればステップS34の処理を行い、不感帯領域であればステップS41の処理を行う。
 ステップS34において、コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが下限側不感帯判定閾値FLlldz(図2参照)未満か否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが下限側不感帯判定閾値FLlldz未満であればステップS35の処理を行い、そうでなければステップS36の処理を行う。
 ステップS35において、コントローラ4は、サブタンク領域と判定する。
 ステップS36において、コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが上限側不感帯判定閾値FLuldz(図2参照)以下か否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが上限側不感帯判定閾値FLuldz以下であればステップS37の処理を行い、そうでなければステップS38の処理を行う。
 ステップS37において、コントローラ4は、不感帯領域と判定する。
 ステップS38において、コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが上限値FLul未満か否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが上限値FLul未満であればステップS39の処理を行い、そうでなければステップS40の処理を行う。
 ステップS39において、コントローラ4は、メインタンク領域と判定する。
 ステップS40において、コントローラ4は、エンプティ領域と判定する。
 ステップS41において、コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが、下限側不感帯判定閾値FLlldzから所定のヒステリシス値を引いた下限側ヒステリシス閾値FLlldzhys未満か否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが下限側ヒステリシス閾値FLlldzhys未満であればステップS42の処理を行い、そうでなければステップS43の処理を行う。
 ステップS42において、コントローラ4は、サブタンク領域と判定する。
 ステップS43において、コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが、上限側不感帯判定閾値FLuldzに所定のヒステリシス値を足した上限側ヒステリシス閾値FLuldzhysより大きいか否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、レベルセンサ出力値FLが上限側ヒステリシス閾値FLuldzhysより大きければステップS44の処理を行い、そうでなければステップS45の処理を行う。
 ステップS44において、コントローラ4は、メインタンク領域と判定する。
 ステップS45において、コントローラ4は、不感帯領域と判定する。このように、一度不感帯領域に入った後は、ノイズ等の影響を考慮して、所定のヒステリシス範囲内(FLlldzhys≦FL≦FLuldzhys)を抜けるまでは不感帯領域と判定する。
 図5は、燃料レベルセンサ3の領域故障診断処理について説明するフローチャートである。
 ステップS81において、コントローラ4は、燃料残量の領域が変化したか否かを判定する。具体的には前回判定した燃料残量の領域が、今回判定した燃料残量の領域と異なるか否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、燃料残量の領域が変化していればステップS95の処理を行い、変化していなければステップS82の処理を行う。
 ステップS82において、コントローラ4は、車速等に基づいて、燃料残量の領域が変化してからの走行距離を算出し、その走行距離に対応する燃料消費量を推定する。以下では、この推定した燃料消費量のことを「推定燃料消費量FC」という。
 ステップS83において、コントローラ4は、燃料残量の領域が満タン領域か否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、満タン領域であればステップS84の処理を行い、そうでなければステップS86の処理を行う。
 ステップS84において、コントローラ4は、推定燃料消費量FCが満タン領域故障判定閾値FCfullよりも大きくなったか否かを判定する。満タン領域故障判定閾値FCfullは、満タン燃料から第1残量を引いた値であって、燃料レベルセンサ3が正常であれば、満タン領域故障判定閾値FCfull分の燃料を消費したときは、必ず燃料残量の領域がサブタンク領域に切り替わる値である。コントローラ4は、推定燃料消費量FCが満タン領域故障判定閾値FCfullよりも大きくなっていればステップS86の処理を行い、そうでなければ今回の処理を終了する。
 ステップS85において、コントローラ4は、燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判定すると共に、推定燃料消費量FCを初期値(ゼロ)に戻す。このステップS85で燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判定するのは以下の理由による。
 満タン領域においては、レベルセンサ出力値FLはほとんど変化しないので、ステップS5でレベルセンサ出力値FLの変化量が通常故障判定閾値以上になることはない。しかしながら、燃料レベルセンサ3が正常であれば、満タン領域故障判定閾値FCfull分の燃料を消費したときは、燃料残量の領域は必ずサブタンク領域に切り替わるはずである。したがって、満タン領域故障判定閾値FCfull分の燃料が消費された(すなわち推定燃料消費量FCが満タン領域故障判定閾値FCfullよりも大きくなった)にもかかわらず、ステップS81で燃料残量の領域が変化していないとしてこのステップに到達したときは、燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判断できる。
 ステップS86において、コントローラ4は、燃料残量の領域がサブタンク領域か否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、サブタンク領域であればステップS87の処理を行い、そうでなければステップS89の処理を行う。
 ステップS87において、コントローラ4は、推定燃料消費量FCがサブタンク領域故障判定閾値FCsubよりも大きくなったか否かを判定する。サブタンク領域故障判定閾値FCsubは、サブタンク領域において、レベルセンサ出力値FLが通常故障判定閾値だけ変化するのに必要な燃料消費量に相当する値である。コントローラ4は、推定燃料消費量FCがサブタンク領域故障判定閾値FCsubよりも大きくなっていればステップS88の処理を行い、そうでなければ今回の処理を終了する。
 ステップS88において、コントローラ4は、燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判定すると共に、推定燃料消費量FCを初期値(ゼロ)に戻す。このステップS88で燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判定するのは以下の理由による。
 サブタンク領域においては、燃料が消費されるにしたがってレベルセンサ出力値FLが上昇していく。したがって、燃料レベルセンサ3が正常であれば、サブタンク領域故障判定閾値FCsub分の燃料が消費された(すなわち推定燃料消費量FCがサブタンク領域故障判定閾値FCsubよりも大きくなった)ときは、ステップS5において、レベルセンサ出力値FLの変化量が通常故障判定閾値以上になるはずである。それにもかかわらず、ステップS5でレベルセンサ出力値FLの変化量が通常故障判定閾値以上とは判定されず、このステップに到達したときは、燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判断できる。
 ステップS89において、コントローラ4は、燃料残量の領域が不感帯領域か否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、不感帯領域であればステップS90の処理を行い、そうでなければステップS92の処理を行う。
 ステップS90において、コントローラ4は、推定燃料消費量FCが不感帯領域故障判定閾値FCdzよりも大きくなったか否かを判定する。不感帯領域故障判定閾値FCdzは、燃料レベルセンサ3が正常であれば、不感帯領域故障判定閾値FCdz分の燃料を消費したときは、必ず燃料残量の領域がメインタンク領域に切り替わる値である。したがって、不感帯領域故障判定閾値FCdzは、概ね第2残量から第3残量を引いた値に等しく、ヒステリス範囲も考慮して設定される値となる。コントローラ4は、推定燃料消費量FCが不感帯領域故障判定閾値FCdzよりも大きければステップS91の処理を行い、そうでなければ今回の処理を終了する。
 ステップS91において、コントローラ4は、燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判定すると共に、推定燃料消費量FCを初期値(ゼロ)に戻す。このステップS91で燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判定するのは以下の理由による。
 不感帯領域においては、レベルセンサ出力値FLはほとんど変化しないので、ステップS5でレベルセンサ出力値FLの変化量が通常故障判定閾値以上になることはない。しかしながら、燃料レベルセンサ3が正常であれば、不感帯領域故障判定閾値FCdz分の燃料を消費したときは、燃料残量の領域は必ずメインタンク領域に切り替わるはずである。したがって、不感帯領域故障判定閾値FCdz分の燃料が消費された(すなわち推定燃料消費量FCが不感帯領域故障判定閾値FCdzよりも大きくなった)にもかかわらず、ステップS81で燃料残量の領域が変化していないとしてこのステップに到達したときは、燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判断できる。
 ステップS92において、コントローラ4は、燃料残量の領域がメインタンク領域か否かを判定する。コントローラ4は、メインタンク領域であればステップS93の処理を行い、そうでなければ今回の処理を終了する。
 ステップS93において、コントローラ4は、推定燃料消費量FCがメインタンク領域故障判定閾値FCmainよりも大きくなったか否かを判定する。メインタンク領域故障判定閾値FCmainは、メインタンク領域において、レベルセンサ出力値FLが通常故障判定閾値だけ変化するのに必要な燃料消費量に相当する値である。コントローラ4は、推定燃料消費量FCがメインタンク領域故障判定閾値FCmainよりも大きくなっていればステップS94の処理を行い、そうでなければ今回の処理を終了する。
 ステップS94において、コントローラ4は、燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判定すると共に、推定燃料消費量FCを初期値(ゼロ)に戻す。このステップS94で燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判定するのは以下の理由による。
 メインタンク領域においては、燃料が消費されるにしたがってレベルセンサ出力値FLが上昇していく。したがって、燃料レベルセンサ3が正常であれば、メインタンク領域故障判定閾値FCmain分の燃料が消費された(すなわち推定燃料消費量FCがメインタンク領域故障判定閾値FCmainよりも大きくなった)ときは、ステップS5において、レベルセンサ出力値FLの変化量が通常故障判定閾値以上になるはずである。それにもかかわらず、ステップS5でレベルセンサ出力値FLの変化量が通常故障判定閾値以上とは判定されず、このステップに到達したときは、燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判定できる。
 ステップS95において、コントローラ4は、推定燃料消費量FCを初期値(ゼロ)に戻す。
 以上説明した本実施形態によれば、レベルセンサ出力値FLの変化量を定期的に所定の通常故障判定閾値と比較して燃料レベルセンサ3の故障診断(通常故障診断)を行うほか、燃料レベルセンサ3の出力特性に基づいて区分けされた燃料残量の領域ごとに、個別に燃料レベルセンサ3の故障診断(領域故障診断)を行うこととした。
 このように、通常故障診断を定期的に実施するとともに、燃料残量の領域ごとに個別に領域故障診断を実施することで、燃料レベルセンサ3の故障診断全体の回数を増やすことができる。
 また、領域故障診断では、燃料レベルセンサ3の出力特性に応じた故障判定閾値を、燃料残量の領域ごとに個別に設定することができる。そのため、特に本実施形態のように、燃料レベルセンサ3の出力特性が不感帯領域を有する出力特性の場合、すなわち、レベルセンサ出力値が燃料消費の途中で一時的にほとんど変化しなくなる特性を有している場合は、不感帯領域での故障判定閾値を適切に調節することで、誤判定を抑制して故障診断の精度を向上させることができる。
 本実施形態では、不感帯領域における故障判定閾値(不感帯領域故障判定閾値FCdz)を、不感帯領域を抜けるために必要な燃料消費量相当の値とした。そして、燃料残量の領域が不感帯領域にある場合は、不感帯領域に入ってからの燃料消費量が、不感帯領域を抜けるために必要な燃料消費量を超えてもなお燃料残量の領域が不感帯領域であると判定され続けているときに、燃料レベルセンサ3が故障していると判定することとした。
 これにより、不感帯領域における誤判定を確実に抑制し、故障診断の精度をより一層向上させることができる。
 また、本実施形態によれば、サブタンク領域及びメインタンク領域における故障判定閾値(サブタンク領域故障判定閾値FCsub及びメインタンク領域故障判定閾値FCmain)を、各領域においてレベルセンサ出力値FLが通常故障判定閾値だけ変化するのに必要な燃料消費量相当の値とした。
 領域故障診断を実施しない場合は、不感帯領域を抜けるために必要な燃料消費量以上の燃料が消費されてからレベルセンサ出力値FLが変化しているかを判断しないと、不感帯領域において誤判定を行う可能性がある。
 しかしながら、レベルセンサ出力値FLが燃料の消費とともに応答良く変化するサブタンク領域やメインタンク領域においては、燃料レベルセンサ3の故障診断を実施するにあたって、不感帯領域を抜けるために必要な燃料消費量以上の燃料が消費されるのを待つ必要はない。そのため、全領域において不感帯領域を抜けるために必要な燃料消費量以上の燃料が消費されてからレベルセンサ出力値FLが変化しているかを判断しようとすると、故障診断の実施回数が減少する。
 そこで本実施形態のように、不感帯領域における故障判定閾値と、サブタンク領域及びメインタンク領域における故障判定閾値とを区別し、不感帯領域における故障判定閾値に比べてサブタンク領域及びメインタンク領域における故障判定閾値を小さくすることで、故障診断の実施回数を増加させて、故障診断の実施頻度を確保することができる。

 本願は、2012年8月2日に日本国特許庁に出願された特願2012-172258号に基づく優先権を主張し、この出願の全ての内容は参照により本明細書に組み込まれる。

Claims (4)

  1.  少なくとも第1タンクと第2タンクとを備える燃料タンク内の燃料残量を検出する燃料レベルセンサの故障診断装置であって、
     前記燃料レベルセンサの出力値に基づいて、前記燃料レベルセンサの出力特性に応じて区分けされた燃料残量の領域を判定する領域判定手段と、
     前記領域が変化してからの燃料消費量と、前記領域ごとに個別に設定された故障判定閾値とを比較して、前記領域ごとに前記燃料レベルセンサの故障診断を行う領域故障診断手段と、
    を備え、
     前記領域故障診断手段は、
      燃料消費先が前記第1タンクから前記第2タンクへと切り替わるときに燃料レベルセンサの出力値の変化が少なくなる不感帯領域において、前記故障判定閾値を、前記不感帯領域を抜けるために必要な燃料消費量相当の値とする、
    燃料レベルセンサの故障診断装置。
  2.  前記領域に関係なく、前記燃料レベルセンサの変化量と、所定の通常故障判定閾値と、を定期的に比較して、前記燃料レベルセンサの故障診断を行う通常故障診断手段をさらに備える、
    請求項1に記載の燃料レベルセンサの故障診断装置。
  3.  前記領域故障診断手段は、
      前記領域が前記第1タンク又は前記第2タンクの燃料を消費する領域のときは、前記故障判定閾値を、その領域において前記燃料レベルセンサの出力値が前記通常故障判定閾値だけ変化するのに必要な燃料消費量相当の値とする、
    請求項2に記載の燃料レベルセンサの故障診断装置。
  4.  少なくとも第1タンクと第2タンクとを備える燃料タンク内の燃料残量を検出する燃料レベルセンサの故障診断方法であって、
     前記燃料レベルセンサの出力値に基づいて、前記燃料レベルセンサの出力特性に応じて区分けされた燃料残量の領域を判定する領域判定工程と、
     前記領域が変化してからの燃料消費量と、前記領域ごとに個別に設定された故障判定閾値とを比較して、前記領域ごとに前記燃料レベルセンサの故障診断を行う領域故障診断工程と、
    を備え、
     前記領域故障診断工程は、
      燃料消費先が前記第1タンクから前記第2タンクへと切り替わるときに燃料レベルセンサの出力値の変化が少なくなる不感帯領域において、前記故障判定閾値を、前記不感帯領域を抜けるために必要な燃料消費量相当の値とする、
    燃料レベルセンサの故障診断方法。
