  • the stop mechanism comprises a pair of inwardly folded tabs 25 on the inside of the side walls 12, 13 of the outer housing 11, and a pa of corresponding tabs 26 projecting from the side walls 18, 19 of the inner casing 17.
  • the inner casing 17 can be extended out of the outer housing 11 until the tabs 26 on the inner casing 17 engage the tabs 25 on the outer housing 11 and prevent further sliding movement of the inner casing 17 out of the outer housing 11.
  • the pack 10 includes a ratchet mechanism configured to provide an incremental opening motion of the inner casing 17 as it moves in and out of the outer housing 11 between the open and closed positions.
  • the ratchet mechanism comprises a series of slots 27 formed in the side walls 18, 19 of the inner casing 17 and a pair of projecting lugs 28 formed on the inside of the side walls 12, 13 of the outer housing 11 positioned corresponding to the location of the slots 27.
  • the lugs 28 alternately click into, then move out of, each of the slots 27, until the inner casing 17 reaches its fully extended open position.
  • This provides the pack 10 with an incremental opening motion comprising a plurality of discrete stable opening steps/positions, each stable position corresponding to a position of the inner casing 17 in which the lugs 28 are located m one of the slots 27 on a respective side of the inner casing 17.
  • the lugs 28 and side walls 18, 19 of the inner casing 17 are resilient such that as the inner casing 17 is moved from one discrete stable position in which the lugs 28 are located in a respective slot 27, the lugs deflect outwards and/ or the side walls 18, 19 of the inner casing 17 deflect inwards to allow the lugs 28 to ride over the portion of side wall 18, 19 between the adjacent slots 27, until the lugs 28 locate in the next respective slot 27 along.
  • the lugs 28 are located in a respective slot 27 when the pack 10 is in the fully closed position to define a definite stable discrete closed position so that there is httle or no play between the inner casing 17 and outer housing 11 m the closed position. This also helps ensure the pack 10 remains closed during transit, such as in a user's bag or pocket, to prevent unintentional opening of the pack, as it means that a small force is then required to initiate opening of the pack 10 to dislocate the lugs 28 from the slots 27 of the closed position.
  • the lugs 28 formed on the inside of the side walls 12, 13 of the outer housing 11 may be formed integrally with the outer housing as a creased/ cut poition from a single blank of card, or may alternatively be separate elements adhered to the outer housing 11.
  • slots 27 and lugs 28 being provided on the side walls of the inner casing 17 and outer housing 11 respectively.
  • the slots 27 may alternatively be provided on the top and/or bottom walls 20, 21 of the inner casing 17 and the lugs 28 may correspondingly be provided on the inside of the top and/ or bottom walls 20, 21 of the outer housing 11.
  • the incremental opening movement of the embodiment of the invention shown and described above is provided by one or more lugs 28 one pack part sequentially locating in and moving out of a series of slots 27 formed m a wall of the other pack part.
  • alternative means may provide the incremental opening/ closing movement of the pack.
  • Such a pack 210 is shown in Figure 4 and is similar to the first embodiment of the invention shown in Figures 1—3, and like features letam the same reference numeral and description thereof will not be repeated.
  • the pack 210 of the second embodiment of the invention differs from that of the first embodiment m that the pack does not include a series of slots formed m the side walls of the inner casing.
  • the side walls 18, 19 of the inner casing 17 ate formed with a corrugated surface defining a plurality of parallel vertical ridges 227.
  • the lugs 28 on the inside of the side walls 12, 13 of the outer housing 11 ride over these ridges 227 and locate in the troughs between each ridge 227 during the opening/ closing of the pack 210, creating the incremental opening/ closing movement.
  • the corrugations may be formed in the side walls 18, 19 of the innei casing 17 as shown m Figure 4, or alternatively the corrugations may be formed on a separate corrugated panel which is adhered to the side walls 18, 19 of the inner casing 17.
  • both of the walls of the inner casing 17 and the outer housing 11 may be formed of corrugated material, or have panels of corrugated material adhered thereto.
  • the ridges of the opposing corrugated walls of the inner casing and outer housing would engage during opening and closing of the pack to provide the incremental opening/ closing movement.
  • embodiments of the invention may be embossed into the material of the wall(s) of the inner casing and/or outer housing.
  • the embodiments of the invention shown and described above show the tabs 25, 26 of the stop mechanisms being provided on the side walls of the outer housing 11 and inner casing 17.
  • the stop mechanism tabs may alternatively be provided on the top and bottom walls 14, 15, 20, 21 of the outer housing 11 and inner casing 17.
  • Both embodiments of the invention are preferably configured such that the lugs 28 locate into a respective slot 27 or move across each ridge 227 with an audible 'click' sound. This further improves the tactile opening/ closing sensation of the pack for the user, and can give an audible reassurance to the user of when the pack reaches the fully closed position.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne un emballage (10) destiné à des articles pour fumeur qui comprend un boîtier extérieur (11) présentant une extrémité ouverte et un logement intérieur (17) logé dans le boîtier extérieur (11) et amovible entre une position ouverte, dans laquelle le logement intérieur (17) s'étend au moins partiellement hors de l'extrémité ouverte du boîtier extérieur (11) et une position fermée, dans laquelle le logement intérieur (17) est rétracté plus loin dans le boîtier extérieur (11) qu'en position ouverte. Le logement intérieur (17) est coulissant de manière télescopique dans et hors du boîtier extérieur. Des éléments en coopération (27, 28) sont formés sur des surfaces adjacentes du boîtier extérieur (11) et du logement intérieur (17) qui viennent en prise pendant le mouvement de l'emballage entre les positions ouverte et fermée, afin de fournir un mouvement incrémentiel d'ouverture/fermeture de l'emballage.
