Abstract

Description
PATENT SPECIFICATION
A METHOD RELATED TO DYEING NATURAL STONES
Field of the invention:
The invention is related to a method of turning marble, onyx, travertine, granite, basalt, limestone, andesite, lymra marble and all marble stone derivatives into selected or rare colors, other than their natural colors, with solvent-based colorants, after taking them from nature and shaping them for superficial and internal changes.
Known Status of Technique: Natural stones are the oldest construction material which can be used commercially after taking them from nature. They have been used by mankind throughout history in buildings and monuments for their beauty and durability. With an increase in their use over time, natural stones now are being used especially in construction, surfacing, flooring, sculpture, road construction, the porcelain and glass industry (quartz), optical industry, and in making ornaments.
The shape, color and brilliance of natural stones provide a wide range of use and importance in the sense of both visual appeal and in adding harmony to their environment. Natural stones of an opaque appearance or those offered for sale in their natural state may be viewed negatively by buyers. This situation imposes restrictions on both usage and sales of these products, and problems are experienced in making use of all of the products.
Previously, water-based dyes were used in the process of coloring natural stones. However, the desired brilliance and vividness could not be obtained with water-based paints. This situation posed a disadvantage for the buyer of today, for whom decoration is very important, and caused negative effects in sales and use of the natural stones.
No renovation of natural stones on which water-based colorings have been performed is possible. It is not possible to polish the surfaces as they lose their brilliance over time. Hence, one is obliged to replace stones that have lost their visual appeal with new ones, and this in turn causes extra costs.
In the water-based coloring procedure, the reaction that is realized to dye the stones lasts a long time. This situation gives rise to extra costs and waste of time. This, in turn, creates a disadvantage for the producer. Furthermore, it was obligatory to use 5 varieties of resin as the raw material in the water- based coloring procedure. This also gives rise to a difficulties in supplying raw materials and extra costs.
Definition of the invention:
The present invention has been developed by considering the aforementioned disadvantages, and with an aim to overcome these disadvantages. The present invention employs solvent-based paint for coloring natural stones. By means of this method, natural stone can be colored with the requested brilliance. In this way a beautiful decorative appearance can be achieved.
Natural stones colored with this method can be polished manually when requested, and thus a more brilliant appearance can be obtained. In this way, extra costs are avoided.
Since the reaction is realized more rapidly in the coloring procedure carried out using solvent-based paint, waste of time and costs are prevented for the producer.
In addition, when a solvent-based paint is used, 2 varieties of resins are used. This provides convenience in the supply and cost of raw materials.
Composition and preparation of the solvent-based paint to be used in the method which is the subject matter of the invention
• Solvent-based pigment, ink color, textile dye and all of the solvent-based colorants between 20-50%
• Double-component acrylic varnish between 30-60%
· Solvent-based binder resins between 40-50%
• Acrylic and cellulose-based solvents
Solvent-based colorant between 20-50%, double-component acrylic varnish between 30- 60%, and solvent-based binder resins between 40-50% are put in the mixer, and the remainder is fed by aciylic and cellulose-based solvents, mixed at 20-40° C, and the solvent-based mixture is prepared.
Method of application of the invention: The method subject matter of the invention consists of following procedural steps:
• The stone to be colored is set in the typesetting cassette.
• The stones set in the typesetting cassettes are dried in the heating cabinet with a temperature of 30-60° C for a certain amount of time based on the kind of stone to be colored, in order to get rid of any humidity.
• The typesetting casettes are taken out of the furnace, immersed in a storage container that is full of the solvent-based mixture at 20-40° C with a carrier such as a crane or a hoist, and left for a certain amount of time according to the kind of stone to be colored.
· Colored stones are put in the furnace with hot air circulation at 30-70° C with a carrier such as a crane or a hoist to set the color, and left for a certain amount of time according to the kind of stone to be colored.
• Before leaving the furnace, the stones reach the cold-air section of the furnace, where they are subjected to shock, and left for a certain amount of time according to the kind of stone to be colored.
• Once heated and dried, the stones undergo double-sided calibration in the calibrating machine, which makes sure projections and indentations on their surfaces are planed and smoothed.
• Upon completing the calibrating procedure, the stones are sent to the polishing machine in order to wipe and polish them, thus finishing their surfaces.
• Polished stones are brought to the requested sizes in the sizing machine, which shapes them to various sizes. this way the natural stones are colored as desired.
