With regard to the securing of the insert against falling out, there may be a certain risk of instability and falling out of the securing pegs during operation and during long-term use at operating temperatures.
  • the assembly of the takeout jaws for gripping glass bottles comprises: (a) an arcuate base comprising a wall member and a radially inward extending, substantially parallel, top and bottom shelf members, said shelf members and wall defining a recess; (b) a semicircular bottle contacting body located in the said recess and having a radially inward extending edge for contacting said bottles, said body having a depression adjacent to the rear edge of the body; (c) means for locating the said body in the said recess comprising a flat spring attached to an outer surface of the wall member, extending through an opening in the wall and having an end for engaging in the depression of the body.
  • the arcuate base is fabricated from steel.
  • the semicircular body is fabricated from material containing graphite.
  • a disadvantage of this solution is that following heating of the spring during operation, falling out of the body may occur more frequently. Another disadvantage is the higher cost of the body in view of its complicated shape. Another disadvantage consists of the small axial play between the body and the recess of the arcuate base.
  • each holder is supplied on its vertical part with a depression on the upper end for engaging the holder on the takeout mechanism, and stops on the side facing the glass product removal for rapid, precise calibration, with the top surface of the stop located below the level of the depression and above the securing column.
  • Each holder is supplied with a securing column for locking of the insert, the top surface of which is at a level below the top surface of the stops, and the bottom surface extends to the level of the bottom surface of the top plate of the horizontal part.
  • the holder is supplied in its horizontal part with a depression adapted for insertion of the insert in a substantially corresponding outer shape. The depression is formed between the top and bottom plates between which there are side walls. Both plates are, on the side facing the glass product to be removed, formed into a semicircular cut-out.
  • Each insert is supplied with a securing opening for insertion of the securing peg into the securing column.
  • the main advantage of the present invention is that it facilitates the use of inserts with very simple manufacturing, construction and economical design.
  • the construction solution facilitates very simple, rapid replacement of inserts and their safe securing against falling out of the holders.
  • the depression serves for engaging the holder on the takeout mechanism. With the aid of optimum arrangement of the stops, precise positioning of the jaw holder in the takeout mechanism is ensured.
  • the securing column and its optimum placement represent the most important construction element of the holder according to the present invention.
  • the securing column is located on the side facing the bottle being removed.
  • the securing column according to the present invention ensures the precise, safe positioning of the insert in the holder and simultaneously secures the insert against falling out of the holder.
  • the recess delineated between the two plates serves as the space for insertion of the insert.
  • the recess ensures the required axial play of the insert in the holder.
  • the holder according to the present invention with the securing column is suitable for the majority of thus far manufactured and used inserts, with the requirement, however, that the insert must be additionally supplied with one securing opening.
  • the substantially vertical part of the L-shaped jaw holder has a rear side, facing away from the glass container to be removed, which is vertical and integral throughout its entire surface.
  • the securing column is situated between the two stops, which takes up little space and thus simplifies the construction and facilitates securing of the insert in one place.
  • the insert can then have a standard size and the holder is thus usable for the majority of existing inserts.
  • the vertical part has a rear side, facing away from the glass container to be removed, canted in the middle part, facing away from the glass container to be removed, and the attached base is vertical, so that the horizontal part of the holder is also extended to the extent of the middle, canted part.
  • the securing column is hollow, the securing peg is located in it surrounded by a spring and there is a bolt above the peg.
  • a primary advantage of this construction solution is that the securing column is placed from the inner side of the jaws, therefore permitting use also of standard, conventionally used inserts and their perfect securing against falling during operation.
  • the semicircular bottle removing cut-out is supplied with another smaller, semicircular cut-out situated below the securing column for easy insertion of the securing peg during replacement of the insert due to a change in the assortment of container glass, or during the insertion of a new insert into a new jaw or during replacement of a deteriorated or damaged insert.
  • the vertical part of the holder in the case of the vertical rear side of the holder, is below the depression and above the stop, on the side facing the glass product being removed, a vertical neck is situated for easier manufacture of the interior space of the securing column. It is also advantageous when there is an opening situated in the rear wall of the holder, at the level of the recess, for pushing the insert out of the holder;

  • Each takeout mechanism comprises two identical, opposing, mirrored holders 1 and opposing, mirrored inserts 2 ⁇ as depicted in Fig. 1.

  • This holder 1 with the inserted insert 2 is shown in front elevation, facing the glass bottle being removed, in Fig. 2 and its vertical cross- section at plane A-A in the vertical axis of the holder and the insert is shown in Fig. 3.
  • Each holder is fabricated in an L-shape, with a vertical part 3 and a horizontal part 4, as can be seen in Figs. 1 and 3.
  • the vertical part 3 comprises in the specific sample design a top, clamping part 3a, a truncated part 3b, a base 3c and a rear wall 3d.
  • the top, clamping part 3a is the narrowest part of the vertical part 3.
  • the top, clamping part 3a of the vertical part 3 widens at the bottom into the truncated part 3b, which is a continuation of the cuboidal base 3c.
  • the vertical part 3 is, as can be seen in Fig. 3 , integrally vertical throughout its height, so the rear side 3d of holder 1 is on one, integral plane throughout its height.
  • the cuboidal base 3c of the vertical part 3 continues into the horizontal part 4, which has a breadth corresponding to that of the base 3c of the vertical part 3 ⁇ as can be seen in Figs. 1 and 3.
  • the horizontal part 4 is supplied with a semicircular cut-out 4a for gripping and removing container glass, e.g. by the neck of the glass bottle.
  • the vertical part 3 of holder 1_ is supplied on the top, clamping part 3a on the axis of holder 1 with a vertical open depression 5 for attaching to the takeout mechanism.
  • Depression 5, in the specific sample design is U-shaped. Depression 5 is created between the two fastening ends of the top, clamping part 3a The bottom excision of depression 5 does not extend to the feet of the top, clamping part 3a, but is situated above the two stops 6 for rapid, precise calibration. Both stops 6 are located on the side facing the bottle being removed, below the fastening end of the top, clamping part 3a.
  • the vertical part 3 of the holder 1_ may be supplied below the stops 6 with weight-reducing holes 7, in this specific sample design by means of two weight-reducing holes 7 in the truncated part 3b,
  • the horizontal part 4 comprises the top plate 8 and the bottom plate 9, joined by the side walls 18. Both plates 8 and 9, together with the side walls 18 and the bottle removal cut-out 4a, thus delineate the recess space 0 for insertion of the insert 2.
  • both plates 8 and 9 have a rectangular shape and together with the side walls 18 they constitute a cuboidal unit, which is breached and open on the side facing the bottle being removed by means of the bottle removal semicircular cut-out 4a for removal by of the glass bottle by the neck.
  • the hollow securing column H of the securing mechanism for engaging the insert 2 in the recess 10 of holder The securing column V ⁇ _ is located below the depression 5 facing the bottle being removed.
  • the upper surface of the securing column V ⁇ _ is always located at a level below the top surface of the stops 6.
  • the bottom surface of the securing column V ⁇ _ reaches to the level of the bottom surface of the top plate 8, as can be seen in Fig.1.
  • Fig. 2 depicts a vertical cross-section at plane A-A of holder 1_ with the inserted, secured insert 2 from Fig. . Visible in this depiction is the opening .12 for pushing out the insert 2 from the holder 1. Opening 12 is situated on the rear side 3d of holder 1 at the level of the recess 10.

  • the formed glass bottle is transferred from the final glass mold to a deadplate or a conveyor belt by means of the takeout jaws.
  • the open takeout jaws then move back over the next glass bottle in the final glass forming mold of the forming machine.

  • the alternative, substantially vertical part 30 is canted in its height in side elevation by means of truncation 30b according to Figs. 6 and 7 such that the rear side 30d of holder 100 is on the canted plane throughout its height.

  • the vertical part 3 may be fabricated in whole as cuboidal without the narrower and middle, truncated part.
  • the middle part does not have to be truncated, but can, e.g., extend directly from the base.
  • the insert 2 does not have to be cuboidal, with straight side walls 18 and rear wall 3d, but may be supplied between the side walls 1_8 and rear wall 3d with truncated side walls 3b.
  • Various construction solutions of holder 1_ permit its use for various types of takeout mechanisms.
