Definitions

  • This invention relates to the structure of outer latch locks. They are meant for equipment of wickets or gates in fences of such ground areas, where cottages, camps, especially family farms, and various messuages and detached outhouses are placed.
  • Latch (or, rarer, 'bolt') locks are employing recently for this purpose, because they are affordable and easy to use (see, for instant: EP 1177360B1 «Lock», EP 1818483A1 «Lock for temporarily blocking a barrier or door relative to a frame», and many other).
  • Each said lock comprises of well-known essential members, such as a housing having in its practically vertical front strip at least one guide opening, rectilinear generatrix of surface of which is practically perpendicular to said strip, at least one straight horizontal latch that is mounted in the housing and loose fitted against relative opening, and a suitable drive of reciprocal motion of each latch between «open» and «closed» positions.
  • essential members such as a housing having in its practically vertical front strip at least one guide opening, rectilinear generatrix of surface of which is practically perpendicular to said strip, at least one straight horizontal latch that is mounted in the housing and loose fitted against relative opening, and a suitable drive of reciprocal motion of each latch between «open» and «closed» positions.
  • this lock which comprises of all aforesaid members along with said hook-like latches (and is the most similar technically to the proposed further lock), has also all above- mentioned disadvantages.
  • any hook-like latch is in the «closed» position, relative to it opening is exposed to ingress of moisture or snow inside the housing.
  • This invention is based on the problem to create - by improvement of shapes and relative position of essential members - such outer latch lock, which facilitates removal of most part of atmospheric precipitations from latches' surfaces and staves off ingress of moisture or snow inside housing, and thus can be free open if even their latches are frosted over.
  • an outer latch lock according to the invention comprises of:
  • said rectilinear generatrices of surfaces of each pair «opening - latch» are practically parallel and inclined to the horizontal at identical acute angles, vertices of which are located before said front strip.
  • each latch's portion projected from the guide opening in the «closed» position is found lower of other latch's portion remaining within the lock's housing. Therefore, spots of rain can easily trickle down along the latch to an opposite strip, which is fixed, e.g., to a stake or to second leaf of double-leaf door or gate, and then to ground. This prevents to form of thick ice crust on latch's surface, if even air temperature falls suddenly that it befalls often in late autumn or in winter after thaws. Moreover, substantial part of snow slides down along the inclined latch too. Further, said forms and arrangement of said openings and latches excludes practically ingress of moisture inside the lock's housing. These advantages permit free detenting of any proposed lock if even their latches are yet frosted-up.
  • First additional feature consists in that the inclination angle of said generatrices to the horizontal exceeds the angle of natural slip of solid atmospheric precipitations. This facilitates substantially their sliding down.
  • each opening and each respective latch are selected from the group comprising circle, rhomb, one diagonal of which is practically upright, and drop-shaped figure, narrow portion of which is directed down. Round openings and latches are the most producible, whereas their rhombic and drop-shaped forms facilitate additionally spontaneous removal of water and snow.
  • each latch is equipped by at least one controllable stopper, but preferably by two controllable stoppers of the «closed» and «open» positions.
  • controllable drives of said latches and stoppers are selected from the group comprising a hand mechanical drive, a controllable electromechanical drive, or their combination. This permits to make failsafe electromechanical (especially, code) outer latch locks that is shown below by an example.

  • each latch 4 is inclined to the horizontal, and its protruding lower end portion is directed to the ground, while its upper end portion is always inside the housing 1.
  • Said inclination angle exceeds usually the angle of natural slip of solid atmospheric precipitations. Maximally possible value of this angle, which is specific for typical snow kinds in any territory, may be defined using suitable handbook or easy detected experimentally.
  • each opening 3 and each respective latch 4 are selected from the group comprising circle, rhomb, one diagonal of which is practically upright, and drop-shaped figure, narrow portion of which is directed down (see Fig.2). It is also desirable when identical profile has each opposite opening located, e.g. in the strip 5, and meant for immobilization of the latch 4 in the «closed» position.

Accordingly, mentioned lower side of the latch 4 has a recess 8 meant for placement of an end element of the controllable stopper 7 in the fixed «open» position.
