Abstract

燃料タンク内に貯留されたバイオ燃料の劣化を色変化として視認するサイトグラス(3)、及びバイオ燃料の劣化状態に対応する3種の色見本(11a~11c)をサイトグラス(3)に沿ってそれぞれ配列させた第1及び第2の比較対象部(4a,4b)から劣化識別装置(2)を構成し、サイトグラス(3)内のバイオ燃料を透かして色見本(11a~11c)を視認することで劣化を判定する。そして、第1の比較対象部(4a)と第2の比較対象部(4b)との各色見本(11a~11c)の配列を逆転させることにより、バイオ燃料の液面低下及び水分層の液面上昇に対応する。

Description

液体性状識別装置、及び同装置を取り付けた液体貯蔵タンク
 本発明は、液体の性状、例えば燃料、潤滑油、作動油などの劣化状態を判定する装置として好適に使用される液体性状識別装置、及び同装置を取り付けた液体貯蔵タンクに関する。
 燃料、潤滑油、作動油などは種々の機械に広く使用されている。例えば油圧ショベルなどの建設機械では、燃料は油圧ポンプ駆動用の内燃機関を運転するために使用され、潤滑油は内燃機関などの潤滑に使用され、作動油は車両走行や作動機の駆動を目的とした油圧ポンプからの油圧伝達のために使用されている。これらの燃料、潤滑油、作動油などはタンク内に貯留されている。燃料は、長期間未稼働な建設機械では新たな燃料が補給されないために次第に劣化する。潤滑油や作動油は、長期間交換されないことによって劣化を生じる。また、燃料、潤滑油、作動油の何れであっても粗悪品の補給・混入などにより劣化する場合がある。これらの劣化は、内燃機関の性能低下、或いは建設機械全体の稼働効率の低下や耐久性低下などの好ましくない事態を引き起こす。このため、劣化が進行する以前に迅速且つ確実な対処が必要になる。
 特に、近年ではバイオマスから生産される燃料を含むバイオ燃料を内燃機関の代替燃料として用いる動きが広まっている。バイオ燃料は温暖効果ガスの排出削減というメリットを有する反面、酸化に伴って燃料系の金属部分を腐食させたり、酸素との重合により粘度が増加して適切な燃料噴射制御が困難になったりするというデメリットを有する。このため、内燃機関の燃料としてバイオ燃料を使用した場合には、より一層劣化への対処が重要となる。
 以上のような不具合を鑑みて種々の対策が提案されており、例えばバイオ燃料の劣化状態を検出する技術として、特許文献1及び特許文献2に記載されたものを挙げることができる。当該特許文献1の技術では、バイオ燃料の酸化の進行に伴って色の濃淡が変化する現象に着目し、色の濃淡を光透過率として定期的に検出し、前回取得した値に対する変化量を逐次算出し、これらの変化量の絶対値を積算した積算値に基づきバイオ燃料の劣化を判定している。
 また、特許文献2の技術では、バイオ燃料の酸化の進行に伴って燃料中の酸素濃度が増加して着火遅れが短縮される現象に着目し、内燃機関の運転中に筒内圧に基づき着火遅れを導出し、その着火遅れが基準値に対して所定以上短縮している場合にバイオ燃料の劣化判定を下している。

 しかしながら、特許文献1の技術では光透過率を検出する光透過率センサを必要とし、特許文献2の技術では筒内圧を検出する筒内圧センサを必要とし、さらに何れの技術であっても検出値に基づきバイオ燃料の劣化を判定する処理回路を必要とする。よって、システム全体として複雑且つ高価なばかりでなく、複雑である故の故障を考慮すると信頼性の点でも十分とは言い難かった。
 当然ながら、これらの従来技術を通常燃料、潤滑油、作動油などの劣化判定に応用することも考えられるが、その場合でも上記不具合は同様に生じる。特に上記した建設機械のように燃料、潤滑油、作動油を共に使用するものでは、それぞれの劣化を判定するために劣化判定のシステム数も倍増することから、一層簡易且つ安価なシステムが望まれる。
 本発明はこのような問題点を解決するためになされたもので、その目的とするところは、簡易且つ安価で信頼性が高いシステム構成により燃料、潤滑油、作動油などの液体の性状を適切に判定することができる液体性状識別装置、及び同装置を取り付けた液体貯蔵タンクを提供することにある。
 上記目的を達成するため、本発明では、液体貯蔵タンクに取付可能であり、該液体貯蔵タンク内に貯留された液体の液面変化方向である上下方向に設けられ、前記液体の性状変化を該液体の色変化として外部より視認可能な観察窓部と、該観察窓部に近接した位置にそれぞれ設けられ、液体の段階的な複数の性状にそれぞれ対応する複数の色見本を監察窓部に沿って配列させた第1の比較対象部及び第2の比較対象部とを備え、第1の比較対象部が、液体の特定方向への性状変化に倣うように監察窓部に沿って各色見本を配列させ、第2の比較対象部が、第1の比較対象部とは逆方向となるように観察窓部に沿って各色見本を配列したことを特徴としている。
 また、本発明は、各色見本が、段階的な複数の性状の液体をそれぞれ透明カプセルに封入して構成されたことを特徴としている。
 また、本発明は、前記液体性状識別装置を取り付けた液体貯蔵タンクを特徴としている。
 また、本発明は、液体性状識別装置の上下位置を、液体貯蔵タンク内の液体の下側に層を形成した混入物の液面が変化し得る最上限位置よりも上方に設定したことを特徴としている。
 以上説明したように本発明の液体性状識別装置によれば、液体貯蔵タンク内に貯留された液体の性状変化を色変化として視認可能な観察窓部、及び液体の段階的な複数の性状に対応する複数の色見本をそれぞれ観察窓部に沿って配列させた第1の比較対象部及び第2の比較対象部を備え、第1の比較対象部と第2の比較対象部との各色見本の配列を逆転させている。
 このため、観察窓部より視認される液体の色変化と第1の比較対象部や第2の比較対象部の各色見本とを比較することにより液体貯蔵タンクに貯留されている液体の性状を判定可能となる。したがって、観察窓部と第1及び第2の比較対象部とからなる簡易且つ安価なシステム構成で実施できる上に、故障の虞がなく高い信頼性を実現することができる。
 また、液体貯蔵タンク内の液体の貯留量に応じて液面が変化する一方、何らかの要因による液体貯蔵タンク内への混入物が液体の下側に層を形成したときには(例えば結露による水分層)、その混入物によって液面も変化する。このため、観察窓部により液体の色変化を視認可能な領域が下方または上方に制限される。両比較対象部の各色見本の配列を逆転させることにより、視認可能な領域が下方に制限された場合でも上方に制限された場合でも何れかの比較対象部の色見本との比較により液体の性状を判定できる。このため、液体や水分層の液面変動に影響されることなく、より多くの状況において液体性状を判定することができる。
 また、本発明による液体性状識別装置によれば、各性状の液体をそれぞれ透明カプセルに封入して色見本としている。このため、実際の性状の液体を色見本として利用することにより、一層正確な劣化判定を実現することができる。
 また、本発明による液体性状識別装置を取り付けた液体貯蔵タンクによれば、液体性状識別装置を取り付けた液体貯蔵タンクを提供でき、もって上記作用効果を得ることができる。
 また、本発明による液体性状識別装置を取り付けた液体貯蔵タンクによれば、液体貯蔵タンク内に混入した混入物の液面が変化し得る最上限位置よりも上方に液体性状識別装置の上下位置を設定している。このため、混合物に遮られることなく観察窓部の全領域で液体の色変化を視認可能となり、もって、各色見本との比較により液体の性状を適切に判定することができる。

 以下、本発明を油圧ショベルに備えられたバイオ燃料の劣化識別装置(液体性状識別装置)、及び同装置を取り付けた燃料タンク(液体貯蔵タンク)に具体化した一実施形態を説明する。
 図示はしないが、本実施形態の油圧ショベルは、内燃機関により駆動される油圧ポンプが発生した油圧を利用して車両の走行や掘削バケットなどの作動機の駆動を行っている。内燃機関は燃料タンクに貯留されたバイオ燃料を使用して運転されるが、[背景技術]で述べたようにバイオ燃料が劣化すると、内燃機関の燃料系を腐食させたり、酸素との重合により粘度増加して燃料噴射制御に悪影響を及ぼしたりするトラブルを引き起こす。その対策として燃料タンクに劣化識別装置が取り付けられており、この劣化識別装置により燃料タンク内のバイオ燃料の劣化状態を判定することにより、劣化時にはバイオ燃料の交換などの対処を迅速且つ確実に実行できるように配慮されている。
 また、油圧ショベルには、内燃機関を潤滑するための潤滑油や油圧伝達のための作動油も使用されている。これらの劣化によるトラブルを回避すべく、潤滑油や作動油を貯留したオイルタンクにもそれぞれの劣化を判定するための劣化識別装置が取り付けられている。但し、劣化を識別するための構造は、上記したバイオ燃料用のものと同様であるため、以下、代表としてバイオ燃料の劣化識別装置及び燃料タンクについて説明する。
 図1はバイオ燃料を貯留する燃料タンクを示す斜視図である。燃料タンク1は鋼板製の直方体状をなし、図に示す姿勢で油圧ショベルの上部旋回体上に搭載されている。図示はしないが、燃料タンク1の一側には給油孔及び内燃機関へと延びる燃料配管が接続されている。バイオ燃料は、給油孔を介して燃料タンク1内に補給される。一方、油圧ショベルの稼働時には燃料配管を経て燃料タンク1内のバイオ燃料が内燃機関に供給され、運転が行われる。また、燃料タンク1の下面にはドレン孔が設けられている。このドレン孔は、劣化したバイオ燃料の排出或いは結露により発生した水分を排出する水抜き処理を行う。
 図2は劣化識別装置を示す正面図、図3は同じく劣化識別装置を示す図1のIII-III線断面図、図4は劣化識別装置の比較対象部を示す正面図、図5はサイトグラスの上側の固定箇所を示す部分拡大断面図である。なお、図示はしないが、サイトグラスの下側の固定箇所も図5と同様である。
 バイオ燃料の劣化識別装置2は燃料タンク1の一側面の下部に設けられている。この劣化識別装置2は、燃料タンク1内のバイオ燃料が内部に導入されるサイトグラス3(監察部)、及び劣化判定のための色見本を有する比較対象部4を備えている。サイトグラス3は透明なガラスまたはアクリル樹脂などで製作され、全体として上下方向、即ち燃料タンク1内でのバイオ燃料の液面の変化方向に沿って延設された管状を有している。サイトグラス3は、その内部に上下方向に延びる通路を表示油路5を有している。
 サイトグラス3の上下両端には固定用のボルト孔3aが燃料タンク1側に向けてそれぞれ形成され、これらのボルト孔3aは上記表示油路5の上下と連通している。上下のボルト孔3aにはユニオンボルト6がそれぞれ挿入される。サイトグラス3は、燃料タンク1の一側面に形成されたボルト孔1aを介して裏面側のウエルドナット7に螺合する各ユニオンボルト6の軸部6aで燃料タンク1に固定されている。
 各ユニオンボルト6の軸部6aにはT字油路8が形成されている。このT字油路8は、軸部6aの先端で燃料タンク1内に開口し、軸部6aの基端でサイトグラス3の表示油路5と連通している。ボルト孔3aの全周には環状油路9が形成されているため、ボルト回転位置に関わらず環状油路9を介してT字油路8と表示油路5とが連通状態に保持される。結果として表示油路5は上下のユニオンボルト6のT字油路8を介して燃料タンク1内と連通し、タンク1内に貯留されたバイオ燃料は表示油路5内にも導入されるようになっている。なお、図示はしないが、ユニオンボルト6による固定箇所は適宜パッキンにより油密保持され、バイオ燃料の外部への漏れ防止がなされている。
 比較対象部4のベース板10は、鋼板製であり上下方向に延びる長方形状を有している。ベース板10は、その上下両端に貫設されたボルト孔10aに上記ユニオンボルト6の軸部6aをそれぞれ挿入された状態で、燃料タンク1の一側面とサイトグラス3との間に挟み込まれて固定されている。ベース板10の表面(サイトグラス3側)には左右に個別に色見本が印刷されている。後述するように、左右の色見本は独立して比較対象部として機能することから、以下、図面に向かって左側の色見本の領域を第1の比較対象部4aと称し、右側の色見本の領域を第2の比較対象部4bと称する。
 ベース板10の表面全体は白色に印刷され、第1及び第2の比較対象部4a,4bにはそれぞれ3種の色見本が印刷されている。各比較対象部4a,4bの3種の色見本は、バイオ燃料の劣化に伴う色変化に段階的に対応するように設定されている。即ち、バイオ燃料は元々黄系の色相を呈し、劣化に伴って次第に明度が低下して淡色から濃色へと変化する特性を有している。具体的には、バイオ燃料は新品時の淡い黄色から使用限界の濃い茶色まで色を変化させる。そこで、例えば3種の色見本として、新品に近いときの黄色(以下、第1色11aと称する)、使用限界に対応する濃い茶色(以下、第3色11cと称する)、その中間である黄土色(以下、第2色11bと称する)が設定され、これらの色見本11a~11cがベース板10上に印刷されている。
 従って、バイオ燃料は劣化に伴って第1色11a、第2色11b、第3色11cの順に色を変化させることになる。そして、第1の比較対象部4aではバイオ燃料の劣化方向に倣うように、上から順に第1色11a、第2色11b、第3色11cの順に色見本が配列され、第2の比較対象部4bでは第1の比較対象部4aとは逆方向となるように、上から順に第3色11c、第2色11b、第1色11aの順に色見本が配列されている。第1及び第2の比較対象部4a,4bの各色見本11a~11cはサイトグラス3の背面側に位置することから、表示油路5内に導入されたバイオ燃料を透かして各色見本11a~11cが視認され、このときの視認状態に基づき劣化判定し得るようになっている。
 なお、各色見本11a~11cの表示は印刷を利用することに限らず、例えば塗装により色見本11a~11cを表示してもよい。また、色見本11a~11cの背景は白色に限定されることはなく、別の色に変更してもよい。
 ここで、燃料タンク1内のバイオ燃料の貯留量は、内燃機関の運転による消費や新たな燃料の補給に応じて変動する。一方、燃料タンク1内の結露によりバイオ燃料の下側に形成される水分層の厚みも変動する。これらの要因により燃料タンク1内でのバイオ燃料の液面及び水分層の液面は変化し、サイトグラス3の表示油路5内でも同様の液面変化が生じる。そして、バイオ燃料の液面と水分層の液面との間の領域においてバイオ燃料が存在し、この領域で比較対象部4a,4bの色見本11a~11cとの比較により劣化判定が可能となる。このような点を鑑みて、サイトグラス3の上下位置は以下のように設定されている。
 燃料タンク1内の水分層は適宜水抜き操作により除去され、常識的なタイミングで水抜き操作が実行されると仮定した場合、燃料タンク1内で水分層の液面が変化し得る最上限位置はある程度特定できる。そして、水分層の液面の最上限位置よりも下方にサイトグラス3を設置した場合には、色見本11a~11cが水分層と対応して劣化判定が不可能になる場合が生じる。一方、燃料消費により燃料タンク1内でのバイオ燃料の液面は下降することから、サイトグラス3の設置位置を上方に設定するほど、色見本11a~11cがバイオ燃料の上側の空気層と対応して劣化判定が不可能になる頻度が高くなる。
 以上の知見の下に、本実施形態では、水分層の液面が変化し得る最上限位置よりも上方で且つ可能な限り下方に、サイトグラス3の設置位置を設定している。
 次に、上述したバイオ燃料の劣化識別装置2の作用を説明する。
 上記サイトグラス3の位置設定により、通常時には燃料タンク1内のバイオ燃料の液面がサイトグラス3よりも高く、且つ水分層の液面がサイトグラス3よりも低くなっているため、図6に示すようにサイトグラス3の表示油路5内には上下方向全体に亘ってバイオ燃料が導入されている。以下に述べるように、バイオ燃料の劣化判定は、第1及び第2比較対象部4a,4bの何れか一方の3種の色見本11a~11cを参照して行われる。図6の場合、何れの比較対象部4a,4bにおいてもバイオ燃料の上側の空気層や下側の水分層に遮られることなく、バイオ燃料を透かして3種全ての色見本11a~11cを視認可能である。したがって、何れかの比較対象部4a,4bを任意に選択した上で、その色見本11a~11cによりバイオ燃料を劣化判定することができる。
 本実施形態の劣化識別装置2による劣化判定の原理は、劣化に伴うバイオ燃料の濃淡変化に応じて、バイオ燃料を透かして視認可能な色見本11a~11cが相違する現象を利用したものである。即ち、バイオ燃料が新品に近いときには第1色11aのみがバイオ燃料に同化して視認不能となり、他の第2及び第3色11b,11cは視認可能である。バイオ燃料の劣化が進行すると第2色11bもバイオ燃料に同化して視認不能になり、さらに使用限界に至ると第3色11cもバイオ燃料に同化して視認不能になる。なお、図6は、バイオ燃料が使用限界に至って第3色11cと同化した状態を示し、図7,8も同様である。
 このようにバイオ燃料の劣化進行に伴って視認可能な色見本11a~11cが変化する。このため、例えば第2色11bが視認不能になった時点で今まで以上に劣化識別装置2の表示に注意を払うようにし、その後に第3色11cが視認不能になった時点で使用限界と判断してバイオ燃料の交換を実施する。これによりバイオ燃料の劣化を適切に判定して迅速且つ確実な対処が可能となり、劣化が進行したバイオ燃料を使用したときの種々の不具合を未然に防止することができる。
 しかも、本実施形態の劣化識別装置2は、燃料タンク1内のバイオ燃料を内部に導入するサイトグラス3、及び色見本11a~11cを有する第1及び第2の比較対象部4a,4bからなる簡単な構造であり、特許文献1,2の技術のようなセンサ類や処理回路を一切必要としない。よって、簡易且つ安価なシステムにより実施できる上に、簡易である故に故障の虞がなく高い信頼性を実現できるという優れた効果を発揮する。
 一方、以上の説明から明らかなように、バイオ燃料の劣化判定としては、第1色11aや第2色11bによる判定に比較して、使用限界に対応する第3色11cに基づく判定が特に重要である。この判定によりバイオ燃料の使用限界を把握して適切にバイオ燃料を交換できる。上記のようにサイトグラス3の表示油路5全体にバイオ燃料が導入されていれば、どのような上下位置に第3色11cがあってもバイオ燃料と対応することから、使用限界に関する判定に支障は生じない。
 ところが、適切な燃料補給が行われないと、燃料タンク1内でのバイオ燃料の液面低下に伴って図7に示すように表示油路5内の燃料液面も低下してバイオ燃料の領域が下方に制限される。このとき、例えば第2の比較対象部4bのように、燃料液面よりも上方に第3色11cが位置している場合には肝心の使用限界を判定できなくなる。また、適切な水抜きが行われないと、燃料タンク1内での水分層の液面上昇に伴って図8に示すように表示油路5内の水分層液面も上昇してバイオ燃料の領域が上方に制限される。このとき、例えば第1の比較対象部4aのように、水分層液面よりも下方に第3色11cが位置している場合には肝心の使用限界を判定できなくなる。
 このような場合を想定した対策として、本実施形態では上記のように第1及び第2の比較対象部4a,4bの各色見本11a~11cの配列を逆転させている。
 これにより、燃料補給が行われずに表示油路5内の燃料液面が下降したとしても、バイオ燃料の液面が第1の比較対象部4aの第3色11cよりも高い位置であれば、その第3色11cをバイオ燃料を透かして視認することによりバイオ燃料の使用限界を判定可能となる。また、水抜きが行われずに表示油路5内の水分層液面が上昇したとしても、水分層の液面が第2の比較対象部4bの第3色11cよりも低い位置であれば、その第3色11cをバイオ燃料を透かして視認することによりバイオ燃料の使用限界を判定可能となる。
 結果として単一の比較対象部(例えば、第1の比較対象部4aまたは第2の比較対象部4bの何れか)のみを備えた場合に比較して、燃料タンク1内のバイオ燃料や水分層の液面変動に影響されることなく、より多くの状況においてバイオ燃料の劣化判定を行うことができる。特に重要なバイオ燃料の使用限界の判定を実施できるので、一層適切にバイオ燃料を交換することができる。
 加えて、燃料タンク1内の水分層の液面の最上限位置よりも上方にサイトグラス3が設置されるため、表示油路5に水分層が視認された状況は水抜きが必要なことを意味する。よって、劣化識別装置2のサイトグラス3は水抜きの要否判定にも利用できる。したがって適切な水抜きを促すという利点も得られる。
 ところで、上記実施形態では、サイトグラス3の背面側に第1及び第2の比較対象部4a,4bの各色見本11a~11cを配設し、表示油路5内のバイオ燃料を透かして色見本11a~11cを視認して劣化判定する原理を採用したが、これに限定されるものではない。例えば、表示油路5に対して第1及び第2の比較対象部4a,4bの各色見本11a~11cを隣り合うように配設し、表示油路5内のバイオ燃料と各色見本11a~11cとの色(濃淡)を比較するようにしてもよい。
 例えば上記実施形態では図2に示すように、サイトグラス3を中心として比較対象部4a,4bの各色見本11a~11cが左右に張り出して正面より視認可能である、そこで、サイトグラス3の背面(色見本側)を白色に着色して外部正面よりバイオ燃料の本来の色を視認可能とすれば、表示油路5内のバイオ燃料の左右に比較対象部4a,4bの色見本11a~11cを隣り合わせることができる。そして、3種の色見本11a~11cからバイオ燃料と同色のものを選択して劣化判定すればよく、重複する説明はしないが、このようにした場合でも上記実施形態と同様の作用効果を得ることができる。
 また、上記実施形態では、印刷或いは塗装によりベース板10上に色見本11a~11cを表示したが、これに限ることはなく、例えば実際に劣化したバイオ燃料を封入した透明カプセル21a~21cを色見本として用いてもよい。この別例を図9,10に示すが、ベース板10上の上段、中段、下段にそれぞれ透明カプセル21a~21cを配設し、各透明カプセル21a~21cの内部を左右方向の中央で区画している。各透明カプセル21a~21c内の左側には、上方より第1色11a、第2色11b、第3色11cに相当する劣化したバイオ燃料を封入し、各カプセル21a~21c内の右側には、上方より第3色11c、第2色11b、第1色11aに相当する劣化したバイオ燃料を封入する。
 上記実施形態のように、表示油路5内のバイオ燃料を透かして各透明カプセル21a~21c内の劣化バイオ燃料を視認して劣化判定できるし、サイトグラス3の背面を白色に着色すれば、表示油路5内のバイオ燃料の左右に各透明カプセル21a~21c内の劣化バイオ燃料を隣り合わせて、それらの色を比較して劣化判定することができる。よって、上記実施形態と同様の作用効果が得られるばかりでなく、実際の劣化したバイオ燃料を色見本として利用することにより、一層正確な劣化判定を実現することができる。
 以上で実施形態の説明を終えるが、本発明の態様はこの実施形態に限定されるものではない。例えば上記実施形態では、油圧ショベルに搭載されたバイオ燃料、潤滑油、作動油の劣化識別装置2及び燃料タンク1として具体化したが、劣化判定の対象になる液体はこれに限ることはない。例えば内燃機関の燃料として軽油を使用する場合には、軽油を対象とした劣化識別装置として具体化してもよい。
 また、サイトグラス3や比較対象部4a,4bの構成についても上記実施形態に限るものではなく、例えばサイトグラス3の形状を変更したり、色見本11a~11c,21a~21cの数を増減させたりしてもよい。

Claims (4)

  1.  液体貯蔵タンクに取付可能であり、該液体貯蔵タンク内に貯留された液体の液面変化方向である上下方向に設けられ、前記液体の性状変化を該液体の色変化として外部より視認可能な観察窓部と、
     該観察窓部に近接した位置にそれぞれ設けられ、前記液体の段階的な複数の性状にそれぞれ対応する複数の色見本を前記監察窓部に沿って配列させた第1の比較対象部及び第2の比較対象部とを備え、
     前記第1の比較対象部は、前記液体の特定方向への性状変化に倣うように前記監察窓部に沿って各色見本を配列させ、前記第2の比較対象部は、前記第1の比較対象部とは逆方向となるように前記観察窓部に沿って各色見本を配列したことを特徴とする液体性状識別装置。
  2.  前記各色見本は、前記段階的な複数の性状の液体をそれぞれ透明カプセルに封入して構成されたことを特徴とする請求項1記載の液体性状識別装置。
  3.  請求項1または2に記載される前記液体性状識別装置を取り付けた液体貯蔵タンク。
  4.  前記液体性状識別装置の上下位置を、前記液体貯蔵タンク内の前記液体の下側に層を形成した混入物の液面が変化し得る最上限位置よりも上方に設定したことを特徴とする請求項3記載の液体貯蔵タンク。
