Description

전자 방출원 및 그 제조 방법
본 발명은 전자 방출원 및 그 제조 방법에 관한 것으로서, 보다 상세하게는 탄소나노튜브와 같은 침상 전자방출 물질을 이용한 전자 방출원에 관한 것이다.
미세 구조물에 의한 전자 방출원(Electron emitter) 또는 전계 방출원(Field emitter)에서, CNT(carbon nanotube) 또는 나노 파티클 등이 전자 방출 물질로서 선호된다. CNT는 튜브 또는 로드 형태로 성장(growth)되거나 합성(composited)된 미세 구조물로서 형태상 다양한 유형이 알려져 있다.
이러한 CNT는 매우 우수한 전기적, 기계적, 화학적, 열적 특성을 가지며, 이러한 장점으로 다양한 분야에 응용되고 있다. CNT는 낮은 일함수(low work function)와 높은 종횡비(high aspect ratio)를 가지며, 선단(top end, 또는 emission end)이 작은 곡률 반경을 가지기 때문에, 매우 큰 전계강화인자(field enhancement factor)를 가지며, 따라서 낮은 포텐셜의 전계(electrice field)하에서도 용이하게 전자를 방출할 수 있다.
종래의 CNT를 이용한 전계방출소자의 형성방법에는 대표적으로 CNT 페이스트를 이용한 스크린 프린팅법과 기판 위에서 패터닝된 영역에서만 CNT를 직접 수직 성장시키는 화학기상증착법이 있다.
스크린 프린팅 방법을 이용한 제조는 감광성 CNT 페이스트를 기판 전면에 도포하고, 포토리소그래피 공정을 통하여 전자 방출 물질 막을 선택적으로 패터닝하는 방법 또는 CNT 페이스트를 기판의 선택적인 영역에만 도포하는 방법으로 구현할 수 있다. 이러한 스크린 프린팅 방법은 제조공정이 복잡하고, 전자 방출부의 밀도 조절이 어려워 재현성이 낮고, 특히 유기바인더 물질에 의한 전계전자 방출원의 오염으로 인하여 전계전자 방출 성능과 소자의 안정성이 현격히 저하되는 문제점이 있다.
화학기상증착법에 의한 CNT 수직성장법은 기판과 CNT 사이의 접착력이 낮아 CNT가 쉽게 떨어지고, 다양한 종류의 CNT를 적용하기 어려우며, 스크리닝 효과(screening effect)로 인해 양질의 전계전자 방출소자를 구현하기 힘들다는 한계가 있다.
본 발명의 일부 실시예는 캐소드에 접착성을 제공하는 구성으로 제조할 수 있는 전자 방출원 제조 방법을 제공한다.
또한, 본 발명의 일부 실시예는 전자 방출 물질에 접착성을 제공하는 구성으로 제조할 수 있는 전자 방출원 제조 방법을 제공한다.
또한, 본 발명의 일부 실시예는 전자 방출 물질을 다양한 형태로 패터닝할 수 있는 전자 방출원 제조 방법을 제공한다.
상술한 기술적 과제를 달성하기 위한 기술적 수단으로서, 본 발명의 제 1 측면에 따른 전자 방출원은 기판, 상기 기판의 상부에 형성되며, 접착성이 있는 그래파이트 접착제(graphite adhesive)로 이루어진 그래파이트 캐소드 및 상기 그래파이트 캐소드에 고정된 침상 전자 방출 물질을 포함한다.
또한, 본 발명의 제 2 측면에 따른 전자 방출원의 제조 방법은 템플리트에 침상 전자 방출 물질 막을 형성하는 단계, 기판의 상부에 그래파이트 접착제로 이루어진 그래파이트 캐소드를 형성하는 단계 및 상기 기판의 그래파이트 캐소드와 상기 템플리트의 침상 전자 방출 물질 막을 접촉시켜, 상기 템플리트에 형성된 침상 전자 방출 물질 막을 상기 그래파이트 캐소드로 전사하는 단계를 포함한다.
또한, 본 발명의 제 3 측면에 따른 전자 방출원의 제조 방법은 템플리트에 침상 전자 방출 물질 막을 형성하는 단계, 기판의 상부에 캐소드를 형성하는 단계, 상기 침상 전자 방출 물질 막의 상부에 접착물질을 도포하는 단계 및 상기 기판의 캐소드와 상기 침상 전자 방출 물질 막에 도포된 접착물질을 접촉시켜, 상기 템플리트에 형성된 침상 전자 방출 물질 막을 상기 캐소드로 전사하는 단계를 포함한다.
또한, 본 발명의 제 4 측면에 따른 전자 방출원은 전자 방출원은 기판, 상기 기판의 상부에 형성되며, 접착물질을 어닐링하여 형성한 캐소드 및 상기 캐소드의 접착성에 의하여 상기 캐소드에 고정된 침상 전자 방출 물질을 포함한다.
전술한 본 발명의 과제 해결 수단 중 어느 하나에 의하면, 그래파이트 캐소드의 구성에 따라 CNT와 캐소드를 접착시킬 수 있다. 이러한 접착 방식은 매우 확고한 기계적 고정과 더불어 전기적 접촉, 즉 오믹(ohmic) 접촉을 허용한다. 또한, 그래파이트 캐소드를 이용할 경우, 완전 소성 후 아웃개싱(outgasing)이 매우 적기 때문에, 진공이 요구되는 전계 방출구조에 매우 효과적이다.
또한, 전술한 본 발명의 과제 해결 수단 중 어느 하나에 의하면, 캐소드에 형성되는 전자 방출 물질의 형태를 다양하게 변형시킬 수 있어, 다양한 형태의 전자 방출원을 제고할 수 있다.

아래에서는 첨부한 도면을 참조하여 본 발명이 속하는 기술 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자가 용이하게 실시할 수 있도록 본 발명의 실시예를 상세히 설명한다. 그러나 본 발명은 여러 가지 상이한 형태로 구현될 수 있으며 여기에서 설명하는 실시예에 한정되지 않는다. 그리고 도면에서 본 발명을 명확하게 설명하기 위해서 설명과 관계없는 부분은 생략하였으며, 명세서 전체를 통하여 유사한 부분에 대해서는 유사한 도면 부호를 붙였다.
명세서 전체에서, 어떤 부분이 다른 부분과 "연결"되어 있다고 할 때, 이는 "직접적으로 연결"되어 있는 경우뿐 아니라, 그 중간에 다른 소자를 사이에 두고 "전기적으로 연결"되어 있는 경우도 포함한다. 또한 어떤 부분이 어떤 구성요소를 "포함"한다고 할 때, 이는 특별히 반대되는 기재가 없는 한 다른 구성요소를 제외하는 것이 아니라 다른 구성요소를 더 포함할 수 있는 것을 의미한다.
본 발명은 침상 전자 방출 물질(needle-shaped electron emission material)을 이용한다. 침상 전자 방출 물질에는 속이 빈 나노튜브, 속이 채워진 나노 로드, 나노 와이어, 파이버, 나노 파이버, 나노 파티클 등이 있으며, 그 대표적인 재료는 탄소이며, 그 외에 금속 물질에 의해 제조될 수도 있다. 이하의 실시예의 설명에서는 침상 전자 방출 물질의 대표적인 물질인 CNT(carbon nanotube)를 중심으로 설명한다. 그러나 침상으로서 전자 방출이 가능한 모든 물질이 적용될 수 있으며, 따라서 침상 전자 방출 물질의 특정한 예에 본 발명이 제한되지 않는다.
도 1은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전자 방출원의 구조를 도시한 도면이다.
전자 방출원(1)은 기판(10), 기판(10) 위에 형성된 그래파이트 캐소드(20), 그래파이트 캐소드(20)위에 형성된 침상 전자 방출 물질 막(30)을 포함한다.
그래파이트 캐소드(20)는 그래파이트 접착제(graphite adhesive)를 이용해 제조된 것으로, 그래파이트 접착제는 그래파이트 분말(gahphite powder)에 적절한 양의 유기 바인더가 포함된 것이다. 유기 바인더는 경화과정을 통해 제거된다. 바람직하게는, 그래파이트 분말과 유기 바인더를 대략 7:3 정도의 무게 비율로 혼합하여 형성하며, 그 비율은 필요에 따라 적절히 조절할 수 있다.
이와 같이 그래파이트 접착제를 이용하여 형성한 그래파이트 캐소드(20)는 그 자체가 접착성을 가지게 된다. 즉, 그래파이트 접착제를 기판에 도포한 후 이를 포토리소그래피법으로 패터닝하고, 이를 에천트(etchant) 등으로 연화 처리할 경우 그 표면에 적절한 접착성을 부여할 수 있다. 또한, 그래파이트 접착제를 캐소드의 형태로 스크린 프린팅한 후 소프트 어닐링함으로써 그 표면에 적절한 접착성을 부여할 수 있다.
따라서, 침상 전자 방출 물질 막(30)을 그래파이트 캐소드(20) 상에 고정시키는 데 있어서, 별도의 접착물질이 불필요하게 된다.
이때, 그래파이트 캐소드(20)는 복층의 구조를 가질 수 있는데, 예를 들어 그래파이트 캐소드(20)의 하부에 도전성 베이스 라인이 더 마련될 수 있으며, 이 베이스 라인은 캐소드의 일부로 이해될 수 있다.
한편, 도 1의 실시예에서는 그래파이트 캐소드(20)를 예시적으로 설명하고 있으나, 접착물질에 의하여 형성된 캐소드를 통해 전자 방출원을 형성할 수 있다. 즉, 그래파이트 접착제, 은(Ag) 페이스트, 솔더(solder) 페이스트 및 전도성 에폭시, 그 외에 바인더를 함유한 유, 무기 접착제 등을 이용하여, 캐소드 형태로 패터닝하고, 어닐링을 수행하는 공정을 통해 접착성이 있는 캐소드를 형성할 수 있다. 이와 같이 본원 발명의 일 실시예에서는, 접착성이 있는 캐소드를 형성하여 전자방출물질을 캐소드에 고정시키고자 한다.
이하에서는 그래파이트 접착제를 주로 포함하는 그래파이트 캐소드을 예로 들어 본 발명의 내용을 설명하기로 한다.

도시된 바와 같이 침상 전자 방출 물질 막(30)은 침상 전자 방출 물질을 포함하며, 그래파이트 캐소드(20)에 의해 물리적으로 고정된다. 즉, 침상 전자 방출 물질 막(30)은 그래파이트 캐소드(20) 자체의 표면 부분에 고정되어 있다. 이러한 전자 방출 물질 막(30)의 고정은 그래파이트 캐소드(20)의 표면에 부여되는 접착성에 의한 것이며, 이러한 접착성은 후술하는 제조 방법에서 전자 방출 물질 막을 전사(transfer)할 때에, 템플리트로부터 전자 방출 물질을 확실하게 그래파이트 캐소드(20)로 옮기는데 기여한다.
그래파이트 캐소드(20)의 하부에는 적어도 하나의 다른 도전층이 존재할 수 있으며, 이는 캐소드의 일부로 이해될 수 있다. 따라서, 실시예들의 기술적 범위는 캐소드의 구조, 예를 들어, 단일층의 구조, 이종 또는 동종 물질막에 의한 다층 구조 등의 특정한 구조에 의해 제한되지 않는다.
이제, 도 1에 도시된 전자 방출원의 제조 방법을 설명하기로 한다.
도 3a 내지 도 3e는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전자 방출원의 제조 방법을 도시한 도면이다.
도 3a에 도시된 바와 같이, 먼저 전자 방출 물질 막을 형성하기 위해, CNT 콜로이드 현탁액을 여과 템플리트(40)에 도포한 후, 이를 건조시켜 전자 방출 물질 막(32)을 형성한다.
CNT 콜로이드 현탁액은 용매 및 계면활성제에 분말 상태의 CNT를 분산시켜 만든 콜로이드 상태의 액체이다. 보다 고른 분산을 위해 초음파 처리하는 공정을 추가할 수 있다.
여과 템플리트(40)로는 테프런, 세라믹, AAO(Anodic Aluminum Oxide), 폴리카보네이트 등의 재료로 된 것을 사용한다. 여과 템플리트(40)는 CNT 콜로이드 현탁액을 여과하고, 그 표면에 CNT만 남기게 된다. 따라서, CNT 콜로이드 현탁액을 건조시킨 후, CNT 만 소정 패턴으로 잔류시켜 판상 캐소드로 전사할 수 있다.
CNT에는 SWCNT(Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube), DWCNT(Double-Walled Carbon Nanotube), 얇은 MWCNT(Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube), 두꺼운 MWCNT 등이 포함될 수 있다. 용매로는 ethanol, dimethyl formamide, tetrahydrofuran, dimethyl acetamide, 1,2 dichloroethane, 1,2 dichlorobenzene 등이 될 수 있다.
그리고, 계면활성제는 sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate(NaDDBS C12H25C6H4SO3Na), sodium butylbenzene sulfonate (NaBBS C4H9C6H4SO3Na), sodium benzoate(C6H5CO2Na), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS; CH3(CH2)11OSO3Na), Triton X-100 (TX100; C8H17C6H4(OCH2CH2)n-OH; n 10), dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB; CH3(CH2)11N(CH3)3Br), 아라비아 고무(Arabic Gum) 중의 어느 하나가 될 수 있다.
도 3a에 도시된 바와 같이, 여과지(filter) 등으로 된 여과 템플리트(40)에 현탁액을 소정 패턴으로 도포한 후 이를 건조시켜 전자 방출 물질 막(32)을 형성한다. 현탁액의 도포 영역은 전자 방출원의 캐소드의 형태에 따라 다양한 변화가 가능하다. 여기에서, 현탁액의 용매와 계면활성제 및 CNT의 비율 또는 농도를 제어함으로써 CNT 밀도를 자유로이 조절할 수 있다. 또한, 주변의 전기적 조건에 따른 최적의 전자방출 밀도 구현이 가능하고, 이러한 최적의 조건을 반복 재현할 수 있으며, 균질한 밀도의 CNT 막을 형성할 수 있다. 현탁액을 여과 템플리트(40)에 형성하면, CNT만 잔류하고 액상 물질은 여과 템플리트를 통과한다. 이 상태에서 건조 과정을 진행하면 여과 템플리트(40) 표면에 전자 방출 물질 막(32)이 형성된다. 건조 과정은 상온 또는 고온 상태에서 자연 건조 또는 진공 건조 과정을 포함할 수 있다.
이와 같이 형성된 전자 방출 물질 막(32)을 그래파이트 캐소드(20)상에 직접 전사하여 전자 방출원을 형성할 수 있다. 또한, 그래파이트 캐소드(20)상에 전사되는 전자 방출 물질 막(32)의 모양을 특정시키고자 하는 경우, 다음에 설명하는 마스크를 이용한 전사 공정을 사용할 수 있다.
도 3b에 도시된 바와 같이, 미리 설정된 모양의 윈도우(52)를 갖는 마스크(50)를 이용하여 전사 공정을 수행하도록 한다. 마스크(50)는 금속이나 플라스틱 박판으로 제조될 수 있다. 윈도우(52)는 도시된 바와 같은 사각형 외에도 슬릿형으로 형성될 수 있으며, 삼각형 또는 오각형 등의 다각형 또는 원형, 타원형, 별모양 등의 다양한 형태를 가질 수 있다. 이러한 형태는 본 발명의 기술적 범위를 제한하지 않는다.
다음으로, 도 3c에 도시된 바와 같이, 기판(10)을 준비한 후에 그래파이트 캐소드(20)를 형성한다. 그래파이트 캐소드(20)는 그래파이트 접착제를 이용해 제조된 것으로, 그래파이트 접착제는 그래파이트 분말에 적절한 양의 유기 바인더가 포함된 것이다.
이와 같이 그래파이트 접착제를 이용하여 형성한 그래파이트 캐소드(20)는 그 자체가 접착성을 가지게 된다. 즉, 그래파이트 접착제를 기판에 도포한 후 이를 포토리소그래피법으로 패터닝하고, 이를 에천트(etchant) 등으로 연화 처리할 경우 그 표면에 적절한 접착성을 부여할 수 있다. 또한, 그래파이트 접착제를 캐소드의 형태로 스크린 프린팅한 후 소프트 어닐링함으로써 그 표면에 적절한 접착성을 부여할 수 있다. 이때, 접착제가 완전히 경화되지 않은 반경화 상태를 갖도록 소프트 어닐링을 수행한다.
다음으로, 도 3d에 도시된 바와 같이, 기판(10)의 그래파이트 캐소드(20) 상부에 마스크(50)를 배치한 후, 전자 방출 물질 막(32)이 형성된 여과 템플리트(40)를 뒤집어서 압착한다. 이러한 공정에 따라, 여과 템플리트(40)에 부착된 전자 방출 물질 막(32)이 윈도우(52)를 통해 그래파이트 캐소드(20)와 접촉하게 된다. 이때, 그래파이트 캐소드(20)는 표면에 접착성을 가지고 있으므로, 윈도우(52)를 통과한 전자 방출 물질은 그래파이트 캐소드(20)의 표면에 고정된다. 이 상태에서 마스크(50)와 여과 템플리트(40)를 분리하면, 캐소드(20)의 표면에 전자 방출 물질이 선택적으로 전사된다. 따라서, 도 3e에 도시된 바와 같이, 그래파이트 캐소드(20) 상의 소망하는 위치에, 소망하는 형상으로 전자 방출 물질 막(30)을 형성할 수 있다.
한편, 상기와 같은 과정을 거친 전자방출물질 막에 대하여 일반적인 표면처리, 예를 들어 테이핑 또는 폴리머 몰딩 등을 수행함으로써, 전자방출물질을 캐소드에 대하여 수직으로 정렬할 수 있다. 다른 방법으로는 전자방출물질 막의 표면을 접착성을 가진 롤러를 이용해 롤링함으로써 전자방출물질을 일으켜 세울 수 있다.
또한, 추가적으로 전자 방출 물질이 전사된 후에 최종 열처리를 통해, 그래파이트 접착제를 완전 경화시킨다. 이와 같은 공정을 통해 전자 방출 물질이 캐소드에 고정될 수 있다.
도 4는 본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따른 전자 방출원의 구조를 도시한 도면이다.
도시된 전자 방출원은 기판(10), 기판(10) 위에 형성된 복수의 그래파이트 캐소드(22), 그래파이트 캐소드(22)위에 형성된 침상 전차방출물질 막(34)을 포함한다.
복수의 그래파이트 캐소드(22)는 기판(10) 상부에 서로 평행하게 배치되고, 각 그래파이트 캐소드(22) 상부에 복수의 침상 전자 방출 물질 막(34)이 소정 간격을 유지한 상태로 배치된다.
이러한 구성의 전자 방출원은 디스플레이 장치의 매트릭스상 전자 방출원 구조체, 즉 캐소드 플레이트에 사용될 수 있다. 이를 위해, 침상 전자 방출 물질 막(34)은 디스플레이의 단위 화소에 대응하도록 배치된다.
도 5는 본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따른 전자 방출원의 구조를 도시한 도면이다.
도시된 전자 방출원은 기판(10), 기판(10) 위에 형성된 복수의 그래파이트 캐소드(24), 그래파이트 캐소드(24)위에 형성된 침상 전차방출물질 막(36)을 포함한다.
복수의 그래파이트 캐소드(24)는 기판(10) 상부에 서로 평행하게 배치되고, 각 그래파이트 캐소드(24) 상부에 침상 전자 방출 물질 막(36)이 배치된다. 도 4의 실시예와 달리, 스트라이프 형태의 침상 전자 방출 물질 막(36)이 각 그래파이트 캐소드(24)를 따라 형성된 구조이다.
도 6a 내지 도 6i는 도 4에 도시된 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전자 방출원의 제조 방법을 도시한 도면이다.
도 6a에 도시된 바와 같이, 먼저 전자 방출 물질 막을 형성하기 위해, CNT 콜로이드 현탁액을 여과 템플리트(40)에 도포한 후, 이를 건조시켜 전자 방출 물질 막(32)을 형성한다. CNT 콜로이드 현탁액은 용매 및 계면활성제에 분말 상태의 CNT를 분산시켜 만든 콜로이드 상태의 액체이다. 보다 고른 분산을 위해 초음파 처리하는 공정을 추가할 수 있다. 현탁액과 CNT에 대한 보다 상세한 사항은 도 3a에서 설명한 바와 같다.
다음으로, 도 5b에 도시된 바와 같이, 전자 방출 물질 막(32)을 충분히 덮을 정도의 면적을 가지는 박판에 다수의 윈도우(54)가 형성된 마스크(50)를 준비한다. 각 윈도우(54)는 전자소자, 예를 들어 전계방출 디스플레이의 각 단위화소에 대응하는 것이며, 후술하는 캐소드의 배열에 일치하여야 한다. 여기에서, 상기 윈도우가 슬릿형인 경우 도 5에 도시된 바와 같은 스트라이프형 전자 방출 물질 막(36)을 형성할 수 도 있다.
다음으로, 도 6c에 도시된 바와 같이, 기판(10)의 표면에 그래파이트 접착제막(21)을 형성한 후, 소프트 어닐링하여 외부 형태를 유지하면서도 적절한 접착성을 갖도록 한다.
다음으로, 도 6d에 도시된 바와 같이, 그래파이트 접착제막(21)을 패터닝하여 서로 나란하게 배치된 복수의 그래파이트 캐소드(22)를 형성한다. 이와 같은 구조는 도 6c의 과정을 생략하고, 단순한 스크린프린팅 공정에 의해서도 형성 가능하다.
다음으로, 도 6e에 도시된 바와 같이, 그래파이트 캐소드(22)가 형성된 기판(10)과 전자 방출 물질 막(36)이 형성된 여과 템플리트(40) 사이에 마스크(50)를 배치하고, 여과 템플리트(40)를 기판(10)에 가압하여 전자 방출 물질 막(32)이 마스크(50)의 윈도우(54)를 통해 선택적으로 전사되도록 한다. 전사가 완료된 후 최종 열처리를 통해 그래파이트 캐소드(22)를 완전 경화한다.
도 6f는 앞선 단계(도 6a ~ 도 6e)의 과정을 통해 형성된 매트릭스상 전자 방출원 구조체(캐소드 플레이트)를 도시한 것으로, 도 4의 구조와 기본적인 구조는 동일하다.
도 6g는 디스플레이 장치에 사용되는 게이트 플레이트(60)를 도시한다. 게이트 플레이트(60)는 별도의 공정을 통해 제조된 것으로, 그래파이트 캐소드(22)에 직교하는 게이트(62)와 전자 방출 물질 막(34)에 대응하는 위치에 형성된 다수의 게이트 홀(64)을 포함한다.
도 6h는 디스플레이 장치에 사용되는 스페이서 플레이트(70)를 도시한다. 스페이서 플레이트(70)는 게이트 플레이트(60)와 캐소드 플레이트(10) 사이에 배치된다. 스페이서 플레이트(70)는 게이트 홀(64)에 대응하는 위치에 형성된 다수의 관통공(72)을 포함한다. 디스플레이에 사용되는 스페이서는 판상의 스페이서 플레이트(70)외에 부분적인 기둥(pillar) 또는 바(bar) 형태의 스페이서로 대체될 수 있는데, 이는 본 발명의 기술적 범위를 제한하지 않는다.
도 6i는 디스플레이의 기본적인 적층 구조를 개략적으로 도시한다. 캐소드 플레이트(10)와 애노드 플레이트(80) 사이에 스페이서 플레이트(70) 및 게이트 플레이트(60)를 배치한다. 애노드 플레이트(80)의 내면에는 애노드(미도시 됨)가 형성되며, 그 표면에 형광체층이 마련될 수 있다. 애노드 플레이트(80) 아래에 도시된 점선의 블록은 애노드 플레이트(80)와 게이트 플레이트(60) 간의 간격 유지를 위한 스페이서를 상징적으로 나타내며, 이는 다양한 형태를 가질 수 있다.
한편, 상기 구조는 디스플레이뿐만 아니라 매트릭스 스위치 어레이로 사용될 수 있으며, 이러한 경우 애노드에 형광체층을 구비하지 않아도 된다.
전술한 바와 같이 본 발명에 따르면, 현탁액 필터링법을 사용하여 형성된 전자 방출 물질 막을 마스크를 이용하여 전사함으로써, 용이하게 소정 패턴의 전자 방출 물질막을 형성할 수 있다. 이때, 그래파이트 캐소드의 표면 자체에 접착성이 부여되므로 전자 방출 물질 막이 캐소드에 대하여 안정되게 고정될 수 있다.
한편, 지금까지는 마스크를 이용하는 전사법에 의해 전자 방출 물질 막을 캐소드 상에 형성하는 방법을 설명하였으나, 본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따르면, 소위 임프린트법 또는 리소그래피법을 사용하여 원하는 패턴의 전자 방출 물질 막을 캐소드 상에 형성할 수 있다.
도 7a 내지 도 7d는 소정 패턴의 돌출부를 이용한 전자 방출원의 제조 공정을 도시한 도면이다.
먼저, 도 7a에 도시된 바와 같이, PDMS 등의 폴리머를 이용하여 소정 패턴의 돌출부(43)를 갖는 템플리트 기판(42)을 준비한다.
다음으로, 도 7b에 도시된 바와 같이, 돌출부(43)를 전자 방출 물질 막 또는 전자 방출 물질을 포함하는 현탁액에 가압 또는 접촉하여, 돌출부(43)의 상면에 전자 방출 물질 막(38)을 형성한다.
다음으로, 도 7c에 도시된 바와 같이, 그래파이트 접착제를 이용하여 형성된 그래파이트 캐소드(21)에 템플리트 기판(42)을 가압하여 돌출부(43)의 상면에 형성된 전자 방출 물질 막(38)을 그래파이트 캐소드(21)로 전사한다.
도 7d는 그래파이트 캐소드(21) 상부에 전자 방출 물질 막(38)이 형성된 전자 방출원을 도시한다. 이때, 그래파이트 캐소드(21)는 도 4 또는 도 5에 도시된 바와 같이 복수의 캐소드를 포함하는 어레이 형태로 구현될 수 있다.
도 8a 내지 도 8d는 전사 및 패터닝 과정을 통한 전자 방출원의 제조 공정을 도시한 도면이다.
도 8a에 도시된 바와 같이, CNT 콜로이드 현탁액을 여과 템플리트(40)에 도포한 후, 이를 건조시켜 전자 방출 물질 막(32)을 형성한다. CNT 콜로이드 현탁액의 상세 구성은 앞서 설명한 바와 같다.
다음으로, 도 8b에 도시된 바와 같이, 여과 템플리트(40)를 그래파이트 캐소드(21)가 형성된 기판(10)과 대향시킨다.
다음으로, 도 8c에 도시된 바와 같이, 여과 템플리트(40)를 기판(10)에 대해 가압하여, 여과 템플리트(40)의 전자 방출 물질 막(32)이 그래파이트 캐소드(21)의 상부로 전사되도록 한다.
다음으로, 도 8d에 도시된 바와 같이, 그래파이트 캐소드(21)상에 형성된 전자 방출 물질 막(32)에 대하여, 소정 패턴의 리소그래피법을 이용하여 에칭 또는 패터닝을 수행함으로써 원하는 형태의 전자 방출원을 제작할 수 있다. 이때, 리소그래피법으로는 포토리소그래피 또는 전자빔 리소그래피 등의 공지의 여러 방법이 적용될 수 있다.
전술한 본 발명에 따르면, 침상 전자 방출 물질이 그래파이트 캐소드에 의해 고정되는데, 이는 매우 확고한 기계적 고정과 더불어 전기적 접촉, 즉 오믹 접촉을 허용한다. 특히, 침상 전자 방출 물질이 탄소나노튜브인 경우, 그래파이트 캐소드와의 오믹 접촉이 더욱 크게 향상된다. 한편, 그래파이트 캐소드를 이용할 경우, 완전 소성 후 아웃개싱(outgasing)이 매우 적기 때문에, 진공이 요구되는 전계 방출구조에 매우 효과적이다.
도 9a 내지 도 9g는 본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따라 전자 방출원을 제조하는 공정을 도시한 도면이다.
본 실시예에서는 임프린트(imprint) 방법을 이용하여, 사용자가 원하는 패턴의 전자 방출원을 형성하도록 한다.
먼저, 도 9a에 도시된 바와 같이, 기판(90)상에 접착성 도전물질(96)을 도포하고, 몰드 기판(92)을 가압하여 접착성 도전물질(96)이 몰드 기판(92)의 형상에 따라 형성되도록 한다.
이때, 몰드 기판(92)은 실리콘 기판을 소정의 패턴 대로 식각하여 형성한다. 또한, 몰드 기판(92)에는 해제층(94)을 도포하여, 접착성 도전물질(96)의 임프린트 공정 후 몰드 기판(92)이 용이하게 해제되도록 한다.
또한, 접착성 도전물질로는 금속입자와 유기접착체의 복합체로 이루어진 등방성 도전성 접착제(ICA: isotropic conductive adhesive)를 사용할 수 있다. 금속입자로는 은, 니켈, 구리, 알루미늄 또는 금 등 다양한 금속이 사용될 수 있다.
다음으로, 도 9b에 도시된 바와 같이, 몰드 기판(92)을 접착성 도전물질(96)이 도포된 기판(90)에 가압하여, 접착성 도전물질(96)이 몰드 기판(92)의 주형의 형상을 갖도록 한다. 이때, 접착성 도전물질(96)이 소정의 높이를 갖는 원뿔 형상을 갖도록 주형을 형성할 수 있다.
다음으로, 도 9c에 도시된 바와 같이, 몰드 기판(92)을 기판(90)으로부터 해제시키면, 접착성 도전물질(96)이 몰드 기판(92)의 주형대로 형성됨을 확인할 수 있다.
다음으로, 도 9d에 도시된 바와 같이, 대상 기판(10)을 기판(90)과 대향하도록 배치시켜, 대상 기판(10)을 가압하면, 접착성 도전물질(96)의 접착성으로 인하여, 접착성 도전물질(96)의 일부가 대상 기판(10)에 접착된다.
다음으로, 도 9 e에 도시된 바와 같이, 대상 기판(10)을 기판(90)으로부터 해제시키면, 접착성 도전물질(96)의 일부(26)가 분리되어 대상 기판(10)에 접착된 상태를 유지할 수 있다. 이때, 접착성 도전물질(96)은 소정의 높이를 갖도록 형성되어 있으므로, 분리된 접착성 도전물질의 일부(26)도 어느 정도의 높이를 갖게 된다. 이러한 접착성 도전물질은 전자 방출원의 캐소드(26)로서 기능할 수 있다.
다음으로, 도 9f에 도시된 바와 같이, 접착성 도전물질로 이루어진 캐소드(26)에 전자 방출 물질을 접착시킨다. 이를 위해, 전자 방출 물질 막(32)이 형성된 여과 템플리트(40)와 캐소드(26)가 형성된 대상 기판(10)을 대향시킨다.
다음으로, 도 9g에 도시된 바와 같이, 여과 템플리트(40)를 대상 기판(10)에 가압하면, 전자 방출 물질 막(32)의 일부가 접착성이 있는 캐소드(26)에 접착되어 전자 방출 물질 막(32)으로부터 분리된다.
이와 같이 임프린트 공정을 이용함에 따라, 사용자가 원하는 형상의 접착성 있는 캐소드(26)를 형성할 수 있게 된다. 그리고, 이와 같이 형성된 캐소드(26)에 전자 물질 막(32)을 접착시켜 CNT 전자 방출원을 제조할 수 있다.
도 10a 내지 도 10d는 본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따라 전자 방출원을 제조하는 공정을 도시한 도면이다.
본 실시예에서는 전자 방출 물질 막과 캐소드를 접착시키는 방법에 있어서, 접착성을 캐소드가 아닌 전자 방출 물질 막에 제공하는 구성을 사용한다. 앞선 실시예에서는 캐소드에 접착성을 제공하기 위해, 그래파이트 접착제를 사용하거나 접착성 도전물질을 임프린팅 하는 방법을 사용하였다. 그러나, 본 실시예에서는 전자 방출 물질에 접착성을 제공하여 캐소드 형성 공정을 더욱 단순화시키도록 한다.
먼저, 도 10a에 도시된 바와 같이, 전자 방출 물질 막(32)이 형성된 템플리트(40)를 준비한다.
다음으로, 도 10b에 도시된 바와 같이, 전자 방출 물질 막(32)의 상부에 접착물질(100)을 도포한다. 예를 들어, 도 9의 실시예에서 설명한 접착성 도전물질을 접착물질(100)로서 사용할 수 있다. 또는, 접착물질(100)은 니켈, 카본 안료 등의 전도성 파우더와 아크릴 에스테르 폴리올 혼성 중합체(acrylic ester polyol copolymer)등의 접착수지와의 혼합물로 이루어진 전도성 테이프일 수 있다.
다음으로, 도 10c에 도시된 바와 같이, 캐소드(28)가 형성된 기판(10)을 여과 템플리트(40)와 대향시킨다. 캐소드(28)는 도전성이 있는 물질로 형성하며, 통상적으로 사용되는 패터닝 방법에 따라 다양한 형태로 형성될 수 있다. 이때, 접착성을 향상시키기 위하여 캐소드(28)에 대해서도 접착성을 추가적으로 제공할 수 있다. 즉, 앞서 설명한 그래파이트 접착제를 이용하여 캐소드를 형성하거나, 캐소드의 상부에 접착물질을 제공할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 접착물질은 니켈, 카본 안료 등의 전도성 파우더와 아크릴 에스테르 폴리올 혼성 중합체(acrylic ester polyol copolymer)등의 접착수지와의 혼합물로 이루어진 전도성 테이프일 수 있다. 또는, 도 9의 실시예에서 설명한 접착성 도전물질을 사용할 수 있다.
다음으로, 도 10d에 도시된 상태에서, 기판(10)과 여과 템플리트(40)를 접촉시키면, 캐소드(28)의 상부에 전자 방출 물질 막(32)을 접착시킬 수 있다.
한편, 이와 같은 구성에서 마스크를 이용한 전사 방법을 사용하면, 사용자가 원하는 모양의 전자 방출원 형성이 가능하다.
도 11a 내지 도 11e는 본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따라 전자 방출원을 제조하는 공정을 도시한 도면이다.
본 실시예는 캐소드 대신 전자 방출 물질에 접착성을 제공하는 방법에 대한 것으로, 사용자가 원하는 모양의 전자 방출원 형성을 위하여, 마스크를 이용하는 방법을 제시한다.
먼저, 도 11a에 도시된 바와 같이, 전자 방출 물질 막(32)이 형성된 템플리트(40)를 준비한다.
다음으로, 도 11b에 도시된 바와 같이, 전자 방출 물질 막(32)의 상부에 접착물질(100)을 도포한다. 예를 들어, 접착성 도전물질을 접착물질(100)로서 사용할 수 있다.
다음으로, 도 11c에 도시된 바와 같이, 기판(10)과 여과 템플리트(40) 사이에 소정 모양의 윈도우(52)를 포함하는 마스크(50)를 배치한다. 이때, 기판(10)에 형성된 캐소드(28) 또한 소정 모양을 갖도록 패터닝된 상태일 수 있다. 또한, 캐소드(28)는 도전성이 있는 물질로 형성하며, 통상적으로 사용되는 패터닝 방법에 따라 다양한 형태로 형성될 수 있다. 이때, 캐소드(28)에는 접착성을 제공하지 않는다.
다음으로, 도 11d에 도시된 바와 같이, 기판(10)과 여과 템플리트(40)를 접촉시킨다. 이러한 공정에 따라, 여과 템플리트(40)에 부착된 전자 방출 물질 막(32)이 윈도우(52)를 통해 캐소드(28)와 접촉하게 된다. 이때, 전자 방출 물질 막(32)은 표면에 접착성을 가지고 있으므로, 윈도우(52)를 통과한 전자 방출 물질은 캐소드(28)의 표면에 고정된다.
다음으로, 도 11e에 도시된 바와 같이, 마스크(50)와 여과 템플리트(40)를 분리하면, 캐소드(28)의 표면에 전자 방출 물질이 선택적으로 전사된다. 따라서, 캐소드(28) 상의 소망하는 위치에, 소망하는 형상으로 전자 방출 물질 막(30)을 형성할 수 있다.
이러한 본 발명의 실시예는 램프, 표시장치, 평판 디스플레이용 백라이트 장치, X-ray 장치용 전자 소스, 고출력 마이크로 웨이브용 전자 소스, 전자 현미경용 전자 소스, 전자빔 리소그래피용 전자 소스 등의 제조에 적용할 수 있다. 또한 선택적인 개별 셀의 독립 구동이 가능함으로써, 집적진공소자 구현이 가능하다.
도 12는 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 전자 방출원을 포함하는 응용장치를 도시한 도면이다.
도시된 응용 장치(200)는 전자 방출원을 포함하는 디스플레이 장치 또는 디스플레이 장치의 백라이트 유닛(BLU) 등으로 사용될 수 있다.
응용 장치(200)는 기판(230)상에 형성된 캐소드(232), 캐소드 상부에 접착되어 전자 방출원으로서 기능하는 침상 전자 방출 물질(220), 전면판(210), 침상 전자 방출 물질(220)에서 방출된 전자가 도달하는 애노드(212), 형광체층(214)을 포함한다. 또한, 침상 전자 방출 물질(220)을 개방하는 관통구를 포함하는 절연층(234), 전자의 추출을 위한 그리드(236)를 포함한다. 이와 같은 구성에 따라, 캐소드의 전자 방출 물질(220)로부터 방출된 전자를 애노드(212)에 인가된 전압으로 가속시켜 형광체층(214)에 충돌시켜 발광이 일어나도록 한다. 이와 같은 자체 발광 구조를 FED와 같은 자체 발광형 디스플레이에 적용하거나, 자체 발광형이 아닌 LCD의 백라이트로 적용할 수 있다.
이때, 침상 전자 방출 물질(220)은 앞서 설명한 본 발명의 다양한 실시예를 통해 캐소드(232)에 고정된다. 즉, 그래파이트 캐소드의 구성을 통해 고정시키거나, 침상 전자 방출 물질(220)에 접착성을 제공하여 고정시킬 수 있다. 또한, 마스크를 이용하거나, 임프린트 방법 등을 이용하여 다양한 형상으로 제조할 수 있다.
도 13은 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 전자 방출원을 포함하는 응용장치를 도시한 도면이다.
도시된 응용 장치(300)는 전자 방출원을 포함하는 X 선 발생장치로 사용될 수 있다.
통상의 X 선 발생장치는 진공방전관을 사용하여 고전압하에서 가속한 전자를 방출하고, 방출된 전자를 타겟인 금속판에 충돌시켜 X 선을 발생시킨다. 그러나 상기와 같은 진공방전관은 많은 양의 전자를 방출하기 위해서는 그 부피가 매우 커지기 때문에 최근까지 전자 방출원으로 방사선 가속기인 싱크로트론이나 고출력 레이저와 고체 타겟을 이용하는 레이저-플라즈마 또는 열전자 방출소자를 주로 사용하고 있다. 그리고, 최근에는 종래의 X 선 발생장치에서 발생하는 문제점들을 해결하기 위하여 전자 방출원으로서 탄소나노튜브를 이용하고자 하는 연구가 지속되고 있다.
응용 장치(300)는 캐소드(312), 침상 전자 방출 물질(314) 및 애노드(316)를 포함하는 전자 방출원(310), 전원 공급 장치(334, 336), 타겟(330), 글라스 필터(332), 챔버(338)를 포함한다.
침상 전자 방출 물질(314)은 애노드(316)와 캐소드(312)에 인가되는 전압에 따라 전자를 방출하고, 방출된 전자는 애노드(316)에 형성된 관통구를 통과하여 타겟(330)과 충돌한다. 타겟(330)과 전자의 충돌에 의하여 발생한 X선은 글라스 필터(332)를 통과하여 외부로 방출된다.
이때, 침상 전자 방출 물질(314)은 앞서 설명한 본 발명의 다양한 실시예를 통해 캐소드(312)에 고정된다. 즉, 그래파이트 캐소드의 구성을 통해 고정시키거나, 침상 전자 방출 물질(314)에 접착성을 제공하여 고정시킬 수 있다. 또한, 마스크를 이용하거나, 임프린트 방법 등을 이용하여 다양한 형상으로 제조할 수 있다.
도 14는 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 전자 방출원을 포함하는 응용장치를 도시한 도면이다.
도시된 응용 장치(400)는 전자빔 리소그래피 장치 또는 전자 현미경의 전자 방출원 또는 전자총으로서 사용될 수 있다.
통상적인 전자빔 리소그래피 장치는 전자 방출원(400)에서 발생된 전자들의 빔(430)을 레티클(미도시 됨) 상에 전달하여, 레티클 상에 마련된 레지스트 층 상에 패턴 레이아웃을 전사한다. 이때, 전자빔(430)의 크기 조절, 조사 위치의 제어, 모양의 조절, 경로 조절 등을 위해, 다양한 형태의 렌즈 시스템, 어퍼처(aperture), 디플렉터(deflector)가 추가적으로 구비된다.
또한, 통상적인 전자 현미경은 전자 방출원(400)으로부터 방출된 전자빔을 전자 렌즈로 축소하여, 시료면 상에 미소한 전자 프로브를 결상시키는 동시에, 편향기에 의해 시료상의 전자 프로브의 이동 및 주사를 행하기 위한 전자 광학계, 시료실과 이들을 진공 유지하기 위한 배기계를 포함한다.
도시된 전자 방출원(400)은 침상 전자 방출 물질(412), 캐소드(410), 실린더(414), 애노드(420), 슬릿(422)을 포함한다.
침상 전자 방출 물질(412)과 캐소드(410)는 실린더(414)에 의하여 고정된다. 캐소드(410)와 애노드(420)에 인가되는 전압에 따라 침상 전자 방출 물질(412)에서 방출된 전자빔(430)은 애노드(420) 쪽으로 유도된 후 슬릿(422)을 통과한다.
이때, 침상 전자 방출 물질(412)은 앞서 설명한 본 발명의 다양한 실시예를 통해 캐소드(410)에 고정된다. 즉, 그래파이트 캐소드의 구성을 통해 고정시키거나, 침상 전자 방출 물질에 접착성을 제공하여 고정시킬 수 있다. 또한, 마스크를 이용하거나, 임프린트 방법 등을 이용하여 다양한 형상으로 제조할 수 있다.
전술한 본 발명의 설명은 예시를 위한 것이며, 본 발명이 속하는 기술분야의 통상의 지식을 가진 자는 본 발명의 기술적 사상이나 필수적인 특징을 변경하지 않고서 다른 구체적인 형태로 쉽게 변형이 가능하다는 것을 이해할 수 있을 것이다. 그러므로 이상에서 기술한 실시예들은 모든 면에서 예시적인 것이며 한정적이 아닌 것으로 이해해야만 한다. 예를 들어, 단일형으로 설명되어 있는 각 구성 요소는 분산되어 실시될 수도 있으며, 마찬가지로 분산된 것으로 설명되어 있는 구성 요소들도 결합된 형태로 실시될 수 있다.
본 발명의 범위는 상기 상세한 설명보다는 후술하는 특허청구범위에 의하여 나타내어지며, 특허청구범위의 의미 및 범위 그리고 그 균등 개념으로부터 도출되는 모든 변경 또는 변형된 형태가 본 발명의 범위에 포함되는 것으로 해석되어야 한다.

Claims (24)

  1. 전자 방출원에 있어서,
    기판,
    상기 기판의 상부에 형성되며, 접착성이 있는 그래파이트 접착제(graphite adhesive)로 이루어진 그래파이트 캐소드, 및
    상기 그래파이트 캐소드에 고정된 침상 전자 방출 물질을 포함하는 전자 방출원.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 침상 전자 방출 물질은 SWCNT(Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube), DWCNT(Double-Walled Carbon Nanotube), MWCNT(Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube), 나노 로드, 나노 와이어, 파이버, 나노 파이버 및 나노 파티클 중 적어도 하나 이상을 포함하는 것인 전자 방출원.
  3. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 그래파이트 접착제는 그래파이트 분말(gahphite powder)과 유기 바인더가 소정 비율로 혼합된 것인 전자 방출원.
  4. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 그래파이트 캐소드는 서로 나란히 배치된 복수의 캐소드를 포함하고,
    상기 침상 전자 방출 물질은 상기 복수의 캐소드 마다 고정된 것인 전자 방출원.
  5. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 그래파이트 캐소드와 대향하도록 배치되고, 상기 침상 전자 방출 물질에서 방출된 전자를 유도하는 애노드를 더 포함하는 전자 방출원.
  6. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 애노드에 적층되고, 상기 침상 전자 방출 물질에서 방출된 전자와의 충돌에 따라 발광하는 형광체층을 더 포함하는 전자 방출원.
  7. 제 1 항에 있어서,
    상기 애노드에 형성되고, 상기 침상 전자 방출 물질에서 방출된 전자를 통과시키는 관통구를 더 포함하는 전자 방출원.
  8. 제 1 항 내지 제 6 항 중 어느 한 항의 전자 방출원을 포함하는 램프.
  9. 제 1 항 내지 제 6 항 중 어느 한 항의 전자 방출원을 포함하는 디스플레이 장치.
  10. 제 1 항 내지 제 5 항 및 제 7 항 중 어느 한 항의 전자 방출원을 포함하고, 상기 전자 방출원에서 방출된 전자를 타겟에 충돌시켜 X 선을 발생시키는 X 선 발생 장치.
  11. 제 1 항 내지 제 5 항 및 제 7 항 중 어느 한 항의 전자 방출원을 포함하는 전자빔 리소그래피 장치.
  12. 제 1 항 내지 제 5 항 및 제 7 항 중 어느 한 항의 전자 방출원을 포함하는 전자 현미경.
  13. 전자 방출원의 제조 방법에 있어서,
    (a) 템플리트에 침상 전자 방출 물질 막을 형성하는 단계,
    (b) 기판의 상부에 그래파이트 접착제로 이루어진 그래파이트 캐소드를 형성하는 단계, 및
    (c) 상기 기판의 그래파이트 캐소드와 상기 템플리트의 침상 전자 방출 물질 막을 접촉시켜, 상기 템플리트에 형성된 침상 전자 방출 물질 막을 상기 그래파이트 캐소드로 전사하는 단계를 포함하는 전자 방출원의 제조 방법.
  14. 제 13 항에 있어서,
    상기 (b) 단계는,
    상기 기판의 상부에 그래파이트 접착제를 도포하는 단계 및
    상기 도포된 그래파이트 접착제를 소프트 어닐링하는 단계를 포함하는 전자 방출원의 제조 방법.
  15. 제 13 항에 있어서,
    상기 (b) 단계는,
    상기 기판의 상부에 그래파이트 접착제를 도포하는 단계,
    상기 도포된 그래파이트 접착제를 패터닝하여 서로 나란하게 배치된 복수의 그래파이트 접착제 층을 형성하는 단계, 및
    상기 형성된 복수의 그래파이트 접착제 층을 소프트 어닐링하는 단계를 포함하는 전자 방출원의 제조 방법.
  16. 제 13 항 내지 제 15 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
    상기 (b) 단계의 수행 후 (c) 단계의 수행 전에, 상기 그래파이트 캐소드의 상부에 소정 모양의 윈도우를 포함하는 마스크를 배치하는 단계를 더 포함하고,
    상기 (c) 단계는 상기 배치된 마스크의 윈도우의 형상에 대응하는 침상 전자 방출 물질을 상기 그래파이트 캐소드로 전사하는 것인 전자 방출원의 제조 방법.
  17. 제 13 항에 있어서,
    상기 (c) 단계의 수행 후 상기 기판에 대하여 어닐링을 수행하는 단계를 더 포함하는 전자 방출원의 제조 방법.
  18. 전자 방출원의 제조 방법에 있어서,
    (a) 템플리트에 침상 전자 방출 물질 막을 형성하는 단계
    (b) 기판의 상부에 캐소드를 형성하는 단계,
    (c) 상기 침상 전자 방출 물질 막의 상부에 접착물질을 도포하는 단계 및
    (d) 상기 기판의 캐소드와 상기 침상 전자 방출 물질 막에 도포된 접착물질을 접촉시켜, 상기 템플리트에 형성된 침상 전자 방출 물질 막을 상기 캐소드로 전사하는 단계를 포함하는 전자 방출원의 제조 방법.
  19. 제 18 항에 있어서,
    상기 (b) 단계는,
    상기 기판의 상부에 그래파이트 접착제를 도포하는 단계 및
    상기 도포된 그래파이트 접착제를 소프트 어닐링하여 상기 캐소드를 형성하는 단계를 포함하는 전자 방출원의 제조 방법.
  20. 제 18 항에 있어서,
    상기 (b) 단계는,
    상기 기판의 상부에 그래파이트 접착제를 도포하는 단계,
    상기 도포된 그래파이트 접착제를 패터닝하여 서로 나란하게 배치된 복수의 그래파이트 접착제 층을 형성하는 단계, 및
    상기 형성된 복수의 그래파이트 접착제 층을 소프트 어닐링하여 상기 캐소드를 형성하는 단계를 포함하는 전자 방출원의 제조 방법.
  21. 제 18 항 내지 제 20 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
    상기 (b) 단계의 수행 후 (c) 단계의 수행 전에, 상기 캐소드의 상부에 소정 모양의 윈도우를 포함하는 마스크를 배치하는 단계를 더 포함하고,
    상기 (c) 단계는 상기 배치된 마스크의 윈도우의 형상에 대응하는 침상 전자 방출 물질을 상기 캐소드로 전사하는 것인 전자 방출원의 제조 방법.
  22. 제 18 항에 있어서,
    상기 (d) 단계의 수행 후 상기 기판에 대하여 어닐링을 수행하는 단계를 더 포함하는 전자 방출원의 제조 방법.
  23. 전자 방출원에 있어서,
    기판,
    상기 기판의 상부에 형성되며, 접착물질을 어닐링하여 형성한 캐소드, 및
    상기 캐소드의 접착성에 의하여 상기 캐소드에 고정된 침상 전자 방출 물질을 포함하는 전자 방출원.
  24. 제 23 항에 있어서
    상기 접착물질은 그래파이트 접착제, 은(Ag) 페이스트, 솔더(solder) 페이스트 및 전도성 에폭시 중 적어도 하나 이상을 포함하는 것인 전자 방출원.
