  • Each seat is of a size and shape to allow for a passenger to be sedentary in at least an upright condition and preferably also in a partially reclined condition.
  • Figure 5 shows a side view of a seat wherein the seat is shown in profile, in both an upright condition and a partially reclined condition.
  • the seating arrangement is mounted within an aircraft 999 to provide a variety of seating and accommodation for passengers. It will be appreciated that whilst the preferred embodiment of the seating arrangement is mounted within an aircraft, the seating arrangement could be mounted in any other vehicle such as a cruise ship, train or bus.
  • the seating arrangement could be mounted in any other vehicle such as a cruise ship, train or bus.
  • Intermediate of each of the seats is preferably an arm rest 7, 8.
  • Each arm rest can preferably be held in a stored condition wherein it does not substantially interfere with a cross seat direction of the seating arrangement 3.
  • each arm rest 7, 8 moves rectilinear between the stored condition as shown in Figure 1, 2 and in used condition where an arm rest surface is more elevated than in the stored condition.
  • each of the seats 4, 5, 6 are in close juxtaposition relative to each other. They preferably form a seat unit.
  • each seat effectively defines part of a single bench seat of the seating arrangement 3. This can allow for a passenger to recline across at least 2 of the seats of the arrangement as shown in Figure 1.
  • the arm rest may move in a rotational manner between its stored condition where it may be located within a space between the seat backs of each of the seats and in use condition extending substantially horizontally.
  • each seating arrangement 2, 3 of a seating configuration consists of 3 seats.
  • each seating arrangement may only include 2 seats.
  • each seating arrangement will have two distal end most seats.
  • the seating arrangement 3 has distal end most seats 4, 6 with a seat 5 intermediate thereof.
  • the design of the seat arrangement (whether it is in a configuration as shown in Figure 1 or whether the seating arrangement does not have a corresponding seating arrangement facing it and providing an alcove like arrangement) has the distal end most seats designed, with a bias inwardly.
  • the bias may be as a result of a slight flaring forward of the back rest at the peripheral edges of the distal end most seats.
  • the wings 10, 11 may project in a forward direction (relative to the seating arrangement 3) so as to create a feeling of enclosure encouraging those passengers sitting in the distal end most seats to have a bias towards facing each other.
  • the intermediate seat 5 has a face direction that is non- parallel to the slight biased faced direction of the distal end most seats. This bias induced on passengers by the distal end most seats may also be encouraged as a result of the free end 20 of the seat pans of the distal end most seats being generally non- perpendicular or non-symmetrical and effectively non-perpendicular to the facing direction of the intermediate seat 5 as shown in Figure 2.
  • each seating arrangement 2 or 3 is positioned proximate another seating arrangement.
  • the pair of seating arrangements are position to define a seating configuration 1 where in the seating arrangements face each other. That is, the seat directions are substantially parallel and in opposing directions to each other.
  • the space between the facing seating arrangement of a seating configuration is sufficient to allow for a person to walk between the 2 seating
  • a platform 35 may span between the 2 seating arrangements 2, 3 to cooperate with one or each of the seats in a seating arrangement and the corresponding opposite seats of the opposite seating arrangement to define a bed or recline surface.
  • the platform 35 can be positioned at a level commensurate with the height of the seat pans of the seats of the seating arrangements.
  • the platform 35 may be supported by part of the seating arrangements or by an alternative structure.
  • Adjacent 1 or both of the distal end most seats of a seating arrangement is a side wall 40.
  • the side wall 40 includes an arm rest surface 41.
  • the side wall 40 defines a side wall to the seating arrangement or partial side wall to the seating arrangement and also encourages passengers in a manner to facilitate their interaction.
  • the side wall 40 may include a cavity 42.
  • the cavity 42 may include a partition 43.
  • the partition may be movably located in the cavity 42 to move between a stored condition where it is substantially concealed within the cavity and an extended position where it extends across at least part of the entrance to the alcove defined between the 2 seating arrangements.
  • the partition 43 when in the extended position extends beyond the free end of the seat pan of the seat adjacent the end wall 40 is in a forward direction therefrom.
  • the partition 43 can extend all the way to an opposite end wall of an opposite seating arrangement of the seating configuration. That way the alcove, at that end of the seating configuration can be closed.
  • a like partition wall 43 may be provided at the opposite end of the seating configuration to also enclose that entrance to the alcove.
  • the opposite end of the alcove may sit against the side of the aircraft body and therefore be closed by the aircraft body. Carried by the partition 43 may also be a tray table as shown in Figure 8.
  • the tray table 44 may be movably configured in a manner so as to extend in a substantially horizontal condition as shown in Figure 8 for use at least by those passengers in the distal end seat proximate most the partition wall 43 but preferably also by the other passengers sitting in the other seats.
  • the tray table 44 may be hingeably engaged so as to fold between a horizontal condition and a vertical condition. In the vertical condition it may also end up being capable of storage within the cavity 42 of a side wall of a seating arrangement.
  • tray table 44 may be stored in the side wall of 1 of the seating
  • partition wall 43 may be stored in a side wall of the opposite seating arrangement.
  • the tray table 44 may also be configured and positioned for use as the platform

Abstract

L'invention porte sur un agencement de sièges pour véhicule à passagers, l'agencement comprenant au moins deux sièges juxtaposés tournés dans la même direction, les sièges d'extrémité distale étant tournés face à face. Les sièges d'extrémité distale ont également un panneau latéral portant une paroi de séparation pouvant s'étendre au-delà de l'avant de la cuvette du siège adjacent pour former une barrière ou un écran qui empêche l'accès depuis l'aile à la zone située à l'avant des sièges. Cet agencement de sièges peut aussi comprendre deux rangées de sièges opposés, dont les cuvettes de siège peuvent être combinées à la table/plateforme située entre les rangées des sièges pour former un lit.
