Definitions
- the present invention relates to an optical multiple termination device, a passive optical network system, and a wavelength allocation method, and more particularly, an optical multiple termination device in a passive optical network system in which an optical network termination device such as a plurality of subscriber connection devices shares an optical transmission line. , A passive optical network system, and a wavelength allocation method.
- PON Passive Optical Network system
- OLT optical multiple terminator
- Optical Network Unit optical network terminator
- ONU optical network terminator
- signals from terminals (PCs, etc.) connected to each ONU are optically (time-division-multiplexed) from the branch optical fiber via the optical splitter via the optical fiber splitter (time division) and sent to the OLT.
- Communication is performed in a form in which signals from each ONU are processed and transmitted to a higher-level communication network, or transmitted to other ONUs connected to the OLT.
- multiplexing methods such as TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) for time division multiplexing of multiple signals, WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) for wavelength multiplexing, CDM (Code Division Multiplexing) for code multiplexing, etc. Is being considered.
- TDM Time Division Multiplexing
- WDM Widelength Division Multiplexing
- CDM Code Division Multiplexing
- the current PON uses TDM.
- GPON uses different wavelengths for upstream (ONU to OLT) and downstream (OLT to ONU) signals, and communication between the OLT and each ONU is performed. The signal communication time is assigned to each ONU.
- the conventional configuration for processing fixed-length signals has been configured to process burst-like variable-length signals (burst signals) that can easily handle various types of signals (sound, image, data, etc.).
- a plurality of waves having different wavelengths are connected to the upstream and downstream signals between the OLT and the ONU, and each ONU performs communication by receiving and transmitting a specific wavelength.
- the communication band can be significantly improved.
- one implementation method of WDM-PON capable of connecting up to 32 ONUs is to use M downlink wavelengths (however, one wavelength is assigned to each ONU of 32 wavelengths, that is, one PON is used)
- the number of wavelengths is set to be twice the maximum number of connected ONUs, but the WDM-PON that can connect up to 32 ONUs follows the conventional TDM-PON concept and sets the number of upstream wavelengths.
- the ONUs are installed in subscriber homes scattered in various places, and the distance from the OLT to each ONU is different. That is, since the length (transmission distance) of the optical fiber including the backbone optical fiber and the branch optical fiber from the OLT to each ONU varies, the transmission delay (delay amount) between each ONU and the OLT varies, and each ONU is different. Even if signals are transmitted at the timing, optical signals output from the ONUs on the backbone optical fiber may collide and interfere with each other. For this reason, in each PON, for example, G.M. After measuring the distance between the OLT and the ONU using a technique called ranging as defined in Chapter 10 of 984.3, the ONUs of each ONU are prevented from colliding. The delay of the output signal is adjusted.
- the OLT determines a band of a signal that is permitted to be transmitted to each ONU based on a transmission request from each ONU using a technique called dynamic bandwidth assignment (hereinafter referred to as DBA), the above-described operation is performed.
- DBA dynamic bandwidth assignment
- the transmission timing is designated to each ONU so that the optical signal from each ONU does not collide or interfere on the backbone optical fiber. That is, the PON is configured such that communication is performed in a state where the timing of signals transmitted and received between the OLT and each ONU is managed in the system.
- the ONU-to-OLT signal is sent from each ONU so that the OLT can identify and process the signal from each ONU multiplexed on the backbone optical fiber.
- a guard time for preventing interference consisting of a maximum of 12 bytes at the beginning of the signal, a preamble used for determining a signal identification threshold of the receiver in the OLT and extracting a clock, and a burst overhead byte called a delimiter for identifying a delimiter of the received signal
- PON control signals (sometimes called overhead or header) are added to data (sometimes called payload). Since each data is variable-length burst data, a header called a GEM (G-PON Encapsulation Method) header for processing variable-length data is also added to the head of each data.
- GEM G-PON Encapsulation Method
- the signal addressed to each ONU from the OLT is a frame for identifying the head at the head of the signal transmitted from the OLT to each ONU so that each ONU can identify and process the signal from the OLT.
- a synchronization pattern, a PLOAM area for transmitting monitoring / maintenance / control information, and an overhead called a grant indication area for instructing signal transmission timing of each ONU (sometimes referred to as a header) are time-shared to each ONU. It is a configuration added to multiplexed data. Note that a GEM header for processing variable length data is added to the data addressed to each ONU to be multiplexed, similarly to the signal from the ONU.
- the OLT specifies the upstream transmission permission timing (transmission start (Start) and end (Stop)) of each ONU in units of bytes using the grant indication area. This transmission permission timing is called a grant.
- This transmission permission timing is called a grant.
- PON has been developed and introduced from one that processes low-speed signals to one that processes higher-speed signals, as in the transition from BPON to GPON.
- optical modules and LSIs which are component parts that provide a PON signal transmission function, consume a large amount of power as the transmission speed increases.
- an optical module tends to secure a necessary band by flowing a larger amount of current as the transmission speed is higher.
- a digital signal processing LSI based on CMOS technology consumes electric power approximately proportional to the speed of the clock used. From the above situation, it is easily expected that in the future, the higher the transmission speed, the more the power consumption tends to be consumed.
- the optical modules and LSIs that make up the PON device operate and consume power even during a time period in which data is not substantially transmitted, causing a significant waste of power.
- a PON system that can perform transmission at a low transmission rate when end-user traffic is small and can perform transmission at a high transmission rate when end-user traffic is large.
- the above-described problems are caused by using different transmission speeds (transmission clock speeds) for each wavelength in the WDM-PON upstream signal in which the number of upstream wavelengths is limited to n (but not more than 32 wavelengths) as described above.
- This can be solved by performing upstream signal communication using an ONU upstream signal having a small bandwidth using a wavelength having a low transmission rate.
- the OLT uses its own DBA function to perform band allocation by sequentially using wavelengths with smaller transmission rates in order from the ONU with the smallest required band.
- the wavelength to be allocated must be selected so that the bandwidth allocated to each ONU is below the maximum bandwidth that can be transmitted at the allocated wavelength.
- wavelength 1 100 Mbit / s
- wavelength 2 500 Mbit / s
- wavelength 3 1 Gbit / s
- wavelength 4 10 Gbit / s
- wavelength 3 and wavelength 4 are allocated in a time division manner to an ONU having a bandwidth request of 1 Gbit / s.
- information of 500 Mbit / s is transmitted using the third half of the DBA cycle using the wavelength 3.
- 500 Mbit / s information is transmitted using the first half of the DBA period using wavelength 4 (corresponding to a band of 10 Gbit / s. If this wavelength division is assigned in time division, the wavelength tunable laser simultaneously transmits the wavelength. Therefore, it is not necessary to emit light having a wavelength of 3 and a wavelength of 4.
- This time-division wavelength allocation is performed by sequentially using wavelengths with smaller transmission speeds in order from the ONU having the smallest required bandwidth as described above. It will be realized with good prospects by implementing the allocation.
- the OLT instructs the slave station transmission timing to the slave station using the above-described grant area by the DBA function.
- the OLT provides information indicating a wavelength to be newly used.
- a storage area is provided.
- the ONU performs upstream communication using a wavelength instructed by the OLT and a transmission rate determined by the wavelength. When the ONU communicates at a lower transmission speed, the power consumption of the ONU is reduced because the low-speed optical module is used and the frequency of the clock supplied to the upstream signal processing portion of the LSI is lowered.
- a master station and a plurality of slave stations are connected by an optical fiber network composed of an optical splitter and a plurality of optical fibers
- Communication in the direction from the master station to the slave station uses a different wavelength assigned to each slave station
- Communication in the direction from the slave station to the master station is a WDM passive optical network system that uses a plurality of wavelengths that is smaller than the total number of slave stations connected to the master station
- a wavelength-multiplexed passive optical network system characterized in that each wavelength operates at a different transmission rate is provided.
- the master station is a bandwidth control unit that determines the amount of signals permitted to be transmitted to each of the slave stations based on requests of the plurality of slave stations for each fixed period;
- a transmission timing control unit that determines a transmission timing of a slave station that transmits the signal and a wavelength to be used can be provided based on the determined amount of the signal.
- the transmission timing control unit can instruct a wavelength to be used in addition to instructing the slave station the transmission timing of the slave station.
- the transmission timing control unit includes an area for storing the transmission timing of the slave station instructed to the slave station, and from the slave station to the master station It is possible to provide a region indicating a wavelength used for communication in the direction.
- the bandwidth control unit sets a constant amount of signals permitted to be transmitted to each of the slave stations, with an upper limit being a sum of transmission speeds corresponding to the plurality of wavelengths used for communication in the direction from the slave station to the master station.
- the transmission timing control unit is determined for each period, and the transmission timing control unit responds from among the wavelengths for which band allocation has not been completed in order from the slave station in which the amount of signals permitted to be transmitted determined by the band control unit is small. It is possible to assign the transmission timing by selecting the wavelength with the lowest transmission speed.
- the transmission timing control unit compares the amount of signals permitted to be transmitted determined by the band control unit and the maximum signal amount that can be transmitted at the transmission rate corresponding to the wavelength for each of the predetermined periods. Only when the amount of the signal permitted to transmit does not exceed the maximum signal amount that can be transmitted, the transmission timing can be assigned using the wavelength used for the comparison.

Abstract
