This happens especially when there is wind and the material is borne by the wind under the door into the building requiring cleaning and/or pest control measures.
  • the inventor is further aware of devices which include a wedge of material such as wood or plastic which are mounted on an outer facing surface of a door and which have a lower edge which is positioned to be proximal the ground at the highest point of the ground in the door opening arc so that the gap between the ground and the door is reduced but the door cant still be opened effortlessly.
  • the problem with such devices is that the ground is not always the perfectly level or on a single plane resulting in a substantial gap between the bottom of the device and the ground when the door is in a closed position. If the device was mounted to reduce the gap further, the door would not open properly as the device would engage the floor in its opening arc.

  • a door sealing apparatus 10 for reducing the gap between the bottom of a door (not shown) and an upwardly facing surface 12 relatives to which the door is displaced and closed thereby to reduce the ingress of material under the door when the door is closed, said apparatus including an aluminum/plastic body 14 attachable to a door by means of attachment means, such as screws for which screw holes 16 are provided, an aluminum/plastic sealing member 18 displaceable from a first raised position wherein a sealing portion 20 of the sealing member does not engage the surface 12 below the door and second lowered position in which the sealing element 20 engages the surface 12 below the door, and displacement means, in the form of an edging element 22, for displacing the sealing member 18 from the first raised position into the second lowered position in responds to the door being brought into proximity of a door frame of the doorway in which the door operates.
  • the body 14 is made of aluminum/plastic and is wedge shaped.
  • the sealing element 20 includes a strip of rubber 24 aw* encircling two rollers 25.
  • the strip 24 could be made of sponge or polyurethane.
  • the sealing member 18 is biased by a two cams 26 into the first raised position so that actuation means is required to urge the sealing member 18 from the first to the second position against the bias.
  • the body 14 includes dual apertures 28 into which complimentary pistons 30 portions of the sealing member 18 is received and are attached to the dual cams 26.
  • An urging element 22 is attached at 23 to the dual cams 26 in order to displace the sealing member 18 from the first position to the second position against the bias of the dual cams 26.
  • the urging element 22 is attached to the dual cams at 23 which, in use, rotate the dual cams.
  • the urging element 22 protrudes from out a door jamb facing aperture and is biased by torsion coil spring 36 in to a protruding position.
  • the urging element 22 is cylindrical, having a flat end 38 which protrudes from out of the door when not depressed.
  • the protruding portion 38 of the urging element 22 is brought into contact with the door frame (not shown) and urged into the aperture 34 in the door against the bias of spring 36, which aperture 34 is in communication with the sealing member pistons apertures 28, so that the pistons engaging dual cams 26 at 23 urges the sealing member 18 from its first raised position to its second lowered position thereby sealing the sealing element 20, and thus the base of the door, against the ground when the door is closed in its doorway.

  • the urging element 22 may be around 600mm long and the strip 24 maybe 10mm thick, and the rollers may be 15mm in diameter extending for the full width of the door.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne un appareil de fermeture hermétique de porte permettant de fermer hermétiquement l'espace entre la partie inférieure d'une porte et une surface dirigée vers le haut et par rapport à laquelle la porte est déplacée et fermée, empêchant ainsi le passage de matériaux sous la porte quand la porte est fermée, ledit appareil comprenant : 1. un corps (14) pouvant être fixé à une porte à l'aide de moyens de fixation; 2. un organe de fermeture hermétique (18) pouvant être déplacé entre une première position levée dans laquelle un élément de fermeture hermétique (20) entourant deux rouleaux (25) de l'organe de fermeture hermétique (18) ne vient pas en prise avec la surface située sous la porte, et une seconde position abaissée dans laquelle l'élément de fermeture hermétique (20) vient en contact avec la surface située sous la porte; 3. des moyens de déplacement servant à déplacer l'organe de fermeture hermétique (18) pour le faire passer de la première position levée à la seconde position abaissée en réponse au placement de la porte à proximité de l'encadrement d'un passage de porte dans lequel la porte est utilisée.
