Description
炭素保護膜は、一般にスパッタ法やCVD法で製膜される。ディスクの表面保護は、炭素保護膜と、この上層に位置する潤滑剤被膜の両者で担うことになるため、炭素保護膜と潤滑剤との相互作用が重要である。
潤滑剤としては一般に官能基を有するフルオロポリエーテルが用いられている。官能基としては、水酸基やアミノ基、さらにはシクロホスファゼン基などがある。具体的には、水酸基を有する潤滑剤としてSolvay Solexis製のFomblin ZTETRAOL、水酸基とシクロホスファゼン基の両方を有する松村石油研究所製のPHOSFAROL A20Hなどがある。
とくにホスファゼン基を有する潤滑剤は耐分解性に優れた材料であり、磁気ディスクの耐久性を向上させる材料として知られている(例えば特許文献1,2)。しかし特許文献1の潤滑剤はその請求項1の化合物において、nは1から5の整数とあるが、当該特許の製造方法では混合物しか得られず、潤滑性能は不十分である。また特許文献2の潤滑剤はシクロホスファゼン環におけるフルオロポリエーテル主鎖の置換数が1であるもので、後記の表1のとおりボンド率が悪い。
1.式(I)で表される化合物を含有する潤滑剤
式中nは実質的に2、3または4であり、RはC1~4のフルオロアルキル基である。Rfは、−CF2O(CF2CF2O)x(CF2O)yCF2−又は−CF2CF2O(CF2CF2CF2O)zCF2CF2−である。x、y、zはそれぞれ、上記Rfを含むHOCH2−Rf−CH2OHで示されるフルオロポリエーテルの数平均分子量が500~2000となる0または正の実数である。該フルオロポリエーテルの分子量分布(PD、重量平均分子量/数平均分子量)=1.0~1.5である。

[1−1]潤滑剤の合成方法
式(I)で表される化合物を含有する本発明の潤滑剤は、例えば片方の末端に水酸基を有しており、かつ他方の末端にエステル基またはシリル基またはアルコキシ基を有する直鎖フルオロポリエーテルと、フェノキシ基の置換したハロゲン化シクロホスファゼン化合物を反応させることにより得られる。具体的には以下の方法により合成される。
(a)片方の末端に水酸基を有しており、かつ他方の末端にエステル基またはシリル基またはアルコキシ基を有する直鎖フルオロポリエーテルの合成
両末端に水酸基を有する直鎖フルオロポリエーテルと、水酸基と反応してエステル基またはシリル基またはアルコキシ基を形成する化合物を混合して、加熱攪拌する。反応温度は10~60℃、好ましくは20~40℃である。反応時間は、2~20時間、好ましくは10~15時間である。エステル基またはシリル基またはアルコキシ基を形成する化合物の使用量は、フルオロポリエーテルに対して0.5~1.5当量であることが好ましい。イミダゾールなどの反応促進剤を使用しても良い。その後、例えばカラムクロマトグラフィーによる精製を行い、片方の末端に水酸基を有しており、かつ他方の末端にエステル基またはシリル基またはアルコキシ基を有する直鎖フルオロポリエーテルを得る。
両末端に水酸基を有するフルオロポリエーテルとしては、例えばHOCH2−Rf−CH2OH、Rfは、−CF2O(CF2CF2O)x(CF2O)yCF2−又は−CF2CF2O(CF2CF2CF2O)zCF2CF2−で示される化合物を例示できる。
このフルオロポリエーテルの数平均分子量は500~2000、好ましくは500~1500、より好ましくは800~1200である。ここで数平均分子量は日本電子製JNM−ECX400による19F−NMRによって測定された値である。NMRの測定において、試料を溶媒へは希釈せず、試料そのものを測定に使用した。ケミカルシフトの基準は、フルオロポリエーテルの骨格構造の一部である既知のピークをもって代用した。
xは0~17の実数であり、好ましくは1~12であり、さらに好ましくは1~10である。yは0~30の実数であり、好ましくは0~22であり、さらに好ましくは0~18である。zは3~12の実数であり、好ましくは3~9、より好ましくは4~7である。
上記HOCH2−Rf−CH2OHで示されるフルオロポリエーテルは、分子量分布を有する化合物であり、重量平均分子量/数平均分子量で示される分子量分布(PD)として、1.0~1.5であり、好ましくは1.0~1.4であり、より好ましくは1.0~1.3である。なお、当該分子量分布は、東ソー製HPLC−8220GPCを用いて、ポリマーラボラトリー製のカラム(PLgel Mixed E)、溶離液はHCFC系代替フロン、基準物資としては、無官能のパーフルオロポリエーテルを使用して得られる特性値である。
水酸基と反応してエステル基またはシリル基またはアルコキシ基を形成する化合物としては、例えば酸無水物、シリルハライド、アルキルハライド、エーテル化合物などを挙げることができる。
酸無水物としてはRaORb(Ra及びRbは同一又は異なって、CH3CO、PhCO、CH3SO2、PhSO2、CF3CH2CO、CH3C6H4SO2、Phはフェニルを示す)で表される化合物、無水マレイン酸、無水コハク酸、無水フタル酸を例示できる。具体的には無水トリフルオロメチル酢酸、無水安息香酸、p−トルエンスルホン酸無水物、トリフルオロメタンスルホン酸無水物、無水酢酸、無水マレイン酸、無水コハク酸、無水フタル酸、酢酸安息香酸無水物、メタンスルホン酸無水物、ベンゼンスルホン酸無水物などを例示できる。
シリルハライドとしては(Rc)3SiY、Rd(Re)2SiY、RdReRgSiY(Rcは炭素数1~4のアルキル又はPh、Rdは炭素数1~18のアルキル、炭素数1~4のアルコキシ、Ph、PhCH2、ペンタフルオロフェニル、シアノプロピル、ビニル、Reは炭素数1~2のアルキル又はPh、Rgはフェニル基の置換した炭素数1~4のアルキルを示す)で表される化合物を例示できる。具体的にはトリメチルシリルクロリド、トリエチルシリルクロリド、トリイソプロピルシリルクロリド、t−ブチルジメチルシリルクロリド、t−ブチルジフェニルシリルクロリド、(3−シアノプロピル)ジメチルクロロシラン、ベンジルクロロジメチルシラン、ブチルジメチルクロロシラン、クロロ(デシル)ジメチルシラン、クロロ(ドデシル)ジメチルシラン、クロロジメチル(3−フェニルプロピル)シラン、クロロジメチルフェニルシラン、クロロジメチルプロピルシラン、クロロジメチルビニルシラン、ジエチルイソプロピルシリルクロリド、ジメチル−n−オクチルクロロシラン、ジメチルエチルシリルクロリド、ジメチルイソプロピルクロロシラン、ジメチルオクタデシルクロロシラン、ジフェニルメチルクロロシラン、メチルオクタデシル(3−フェニルプロピル)クロロシラン、ペンタフルオロフェニルジメチルクロロシラン、t−ブトキシジフェニルクロロシラン、t−ブチルジフェニルクロロシラン、トリフェニルクロロシランなどを例示できる。
アルキルハライドとしてはAY(Aは炭素数1~5のアルキル、Yは塩素、臭素、ヨウ素などのハロゲンを示す)で表される化合物を例示できる。具体的にはヨードメタン、1−ブロモプロパン、2−ブロモプロパン、1−ヨードプロパン、2−ヨードプロパン、1−ブロモ−2−メチルプロパン、1−ブロモブタン、2−ブロモ−2−メチルプロパン、2−ブロモブタン、1−ヨード−2−メチルプロパン、1−ヨードブタン、2−ヨード−2−メチルプロパン、2−ヨードブタン、1−ヨード−2−メチルブタン、1−ヨード−3−メチルブタン、1−ブロモ−3−メチルブタン、1−ブロモペンタン、2−ブロモ−2−メチルブタン、3−ブロモペンタンなどのメチルハライド、エチルハライド、プロピルハライド、ブチルハライド、ペンチルハライドなどを挙げることができる。
エーテル化合物としては、具体的にはクロロメチルメチルエーテル、2−メトキシエトキシメチルクロリド、ベンジルクロロメチルエーテル、3,4−ジヒドロ−2H−ピラン、エチルビニルエーテルなどを挙げることができる。
(b)本発明の潤滑剤の合成
上記(a)で得られるフルオロポリエーテルと、(RC6H4O)6−n−(P3N3)−Xnで表されるハロゲン原子をn個有するシクロホスファゼンを、ナトリウムなどのアルカリ金属とともに加熱攪拌する。nは2または3または4であり、それぞれシクロホスファゼン材料の純度は80%以上であり、好ましくは90%以上である。反応温度は30~100℃、好ましくは50~80℃である。反応時間は、20~100時間、好ましくは50~80時間である。ハロゲン原子に対して、上記(a)で得られるパーフルオロポリエーテルを0.5~2.0当量、アルカリ金属を0.5~2.0当量使用するのが好ましい。反応は溶剤中で行ってもよい。その後、例えば水洗、脱水する。さらにその後、パーフルオロポリエーテルの片方の末端に残存しているエステル基またはシリル基またはアルコキシ基を加水分解反応などにより脱保護(エステル基またはシリル基またはアルコキシ基の脱離反応)した後に、カラムクロマトグラフィーにより分画し、目的とする化合物がフラクションとして得られる。
(RC6H4O)6−n−(P3N3)−Xnで表されるシクロホスファゼンの置換基におけるRは、炭素数1~4のフルオロアルキル基であり、例えば、炭素数1~4のパーフルオロアルキル基、1,1,2,2−テトラフルオロエチル基、1,1,2,2,3,3−ヘキサフルオロプロピル基、1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4−オクタフルオロブチル基等を例示できる。Rの置換位置については、オルト位、メタ位、パラ位のいずれでも良い。
(RC6H4O)6−n−(P3N3)−Xnで表されるハロゲン原子をn個有するシクロホスファゼンにおいて、Xは、例えば塩素、臭素、沃素を例示できる。
本発明の潤滑剤を磁気ディスクに用いる場合には、n=2または3または4が好ましく、より好ましくはn=3または4であり、さらに好ましくはn=3である。
本発明の化合物を磁気ディスク表面に塗布するには、化合物を溶剤に希釈して塗布する方法が好ましい。溶剤としては、例えば3M製PF−5060、PF−5080、HFE−7100、HFE−7200、HFE−7300、DuPont製Vertrel−XF等が挙げられる。希釈後の化合物の濃度は1wt%以下、好ましくは0.001~0.1wt%である。
本発明の化合物を単独使用する以外にも、例えばSolvay Solexis製のFomblin ZdolやZtetraol、Zdol TX、AM、ダイキン工業製のDemnum、Dupont製のKrytoxなどと任意の比率で混合して使用することもできる。
本発明の化合物は、磁気ディスク装置内の磁気ディスクとヘッドの低スペーシング化を実現し、さらに摺動耐久性を向上させるための潤滑剤としての用途が挙げられる。また、本発明の化合物は、分子末端の水酸基による炭素保護膜に存在する極性部位との相互作用、加えて分子鎖中の芳香族基による炭素保護膜に存在する炭素の不飽和結合との相互作用を形成することを特徴とする。従って、磁気ディスク以外にも炭素保護膜を有する磁気ヘッドや、光磁気記録装置、磁気テープ等や、プラスチックなどの有機材料の表面保護膜、さらにはSi3N4、SiC、SiO2などの無機材料の表面保護膜としても応用できる。
図1に本発明の磁気ディスク断面の模式図を示す。本発明の磁気ディスクは、まず支持体1上に少なくとも1層以上の記録層2、その上に保護層3、更にその上に本発明の潤滑剤を含有する潤滑層4を最外層として有する構成である。支持体としてはアルミニウム合金、ガラス等のセラミックス、ポリカーボネート等が挙げられる。
磁気ディスクの記録層である磁性層の構成材料としては鉄、コバルト、ニッケル等の強磁性体を形成可能な元素を中心として、これにクロム、白金、タンタル等を加えた合金、又はそれらの酸化物が挙げられる。これらはメッキ法、或いはスパッタ法等で形成される。保護層の材料はカーボン、SiC、SiO2等が挙げられる。これらはスパッタ法、或いはCVD法で形成される。
現在、流通している潤滑層の厚さは30Å以下であるため、粘性が20℃で100mPa・s程度以上の潤滑剤をそのまま塗布したのでは膜厚が大きくなりすぎる恐れがある。そこで塗布の際は溶剤に溶解したものを用いる。本発明の化合物を潤滑剤として単独で使用する場合も、他の潤滑剤と混合して使用する場合も、溶剤に溶解した方が必要な膜厚に制御しやすい。但し、濃度は塗布方法・条件、混合割合等により異なる。本発明の潤滑剤の膜厚は、5~15Åが好ましい。
下地層に対する潤滑剤の吸着を促進させるために、熱処理や紫外線処理を行うことができる。熱処理温度は、60~150℃、好ましくは80~150℃である。紫外線処理では、185nmと254nmの波長を主波長とする紫外線を用いるのが好ましい。
本発明の磁気ディスクは、ディスクを格納し、情報の記録・再生・消去を行うためのヘッドやディスクを回転するためのモーター等が装備されている磁気ディスクドライブとそのドライブを制御するための制御系からなる磁気ディスク装置に応用できる。磁気ディスク装置の記録方式としては、面内磁気記録、垂直磁気記録、熱アシスト磁気記録等が挙げられる。ディスクリートトラック型磁気ディスクやビットパターンド型磁気ディスクにも適用できる。
(m−CF3−C6H4O)3−(P3N3)−(O−CH2−Rf−CH2OH)3(潤滑剤1)の合成
Rfは−CF2O(CF2CF2O)x(CF2O)yCF2−である。
アルゴン雰囲気下、ジメチルホルムアルデヒド(45g)、HO−CH2CF2O(CF2CF2O)x(CF2O)yCF2CH2−OHで表わされるフルオロポリエーテル(数平均分子量1056、分子量分布1.25)90g、トリイソプロピルシラン(14g)およびイミダゾール(6g)を30℃で12時間攪拌した。その後、水洗、脱水、シリカゲルカラムクロマトグラフィーにより精製し、一方の末端に一つの水酸基を有し、もう一方の末端にトリイソプロピルシリル基を有した化合物を50g得た。この化合物(50g)をジトリフルオロメチルベンゼン(140g)に溶解させ、(m−CF3C6H4O)3−(P3N3)−Cl3で表される塩素原子を3個有するシクロホスファゼンを7gと金属ナトリウム(1.1g)を加えて、70℃で70時間攪拌した。その後、水洗浄を行い、テトラブチルアンモニウムフルオリドの1Mテトラヒドロフラン溶液(33g)を混合させた後、カラムクロマトグラフィーにより精製することにより、目的潤滑剤1を10g得た。
潤滑剤1は、無色透明液体であり、20℃での密度は、1.75g/cm3であった。NMRを用いて行った潤滑剤1の同定結果を示す。

アルゴン雰囲気下、ジメチルホルムアルデヒド(90g)、HO−CH2CF2O(CF2CF2O)x(CF2O)yCF2CH2−OHで表わされるフルオロポリエーテル(数平均分子量1056、分子量分布1.25)90g、3,4−ジヒドロ−2H−ピラン(16g)およびp−トルエンスルホン酸(1g)を30℃で24時間攪拌した。その後、水洗、脱水、シリカゲルカラムクロマトグラフィーにより精製し、一方の末端に一つの水酸基を有し、もう一方の末端にテトラヒドロピラニル基を有した化合物を55g得た。この化合物(50g)をジトリフルオロメチルベンゼン(140g)に溶解させ、(m−CF3C6H4O)2−(P3N3)−Cl4で表される塩素原子を4個有するシクロホスファゼン6gと金属ナトリウム(1.1g)を加えて、70℃で70時間攪拌した。その後、水洗浄を行い、p−トルエンスルホン酸(20g)を混合させた後、カラムクロマトグラフィーにより精製することにより、目的潤滑剤3を27g得た。
潤滑剤3は、無色透明液体であり、20℃での密度は、1.76g/cm3であった。NMRを用いて行った潤滑剤3の同定結果を示す。

実施例4
(m−CF3−C6H4O)4−(P3N3)−(O−CH2−Rf−CH2OH)2(潤滑剤4)の合成
Rfは−CF2O(CF2CF2O)x(CF2O)yCF2−である。
アルゴン雰囲気下、ジメチルホルムアルデヒド(90g)、HO−CH2CF2O(CF2CF2O)x(CF2O)yCF2CH2−OHで表わされるフルオロポリエーテル(数平均分子量1056、分子量分布1.25)90g、3,4−ジヒドロ−2H−ピラン(16g)およびp−トルエンスルホン酸(1g)を30℃で24時間攪拌した。その後、水洗、脱水、シリカゲルカラムクロマトグラフィーにより精製し、一方の末端に一つの水酸基を有し、もう一方の末端にテトラヒドロピラニル基を有した化合物を55g得た。この化合物(50g)をジトリフルオロメチルベンゼン(140g)に溶解させ、(m−CF3C6H4O)4−(P3N3)−Cl2で表される塩素原子を2個有するシクロホスファゼンを9gと金属ナトリウム(1.1g)を加えて、70℃で70時間攪拌した。その後、水洗浄を行い、p−トルエンスルホン酸(20g)を混合させた後、カラムクロマトグラフィーにより精製することにより、目的潤滑剤4を31g得た。
潤滑剤4は、無色透明液体であり、20℃での密度は、1.73g/cm3であった。NMRを用いて行った潤滑剤4の同定結果を示す。

試験例1 ボンド率の測定
実施例1~4で合成した潤滑剤1~4を、それぞれDuPont製Vertrel−XFに溶解する。この溶液中の潤滑剤の濃度は0.05重量%である。直径3.5インチの磁気ディスクをこの溶液に1分間浸漬し、速度2mm/sで引き上げた。その後150℃の恒温槽に10分間この磁気ディスクを入れ、ディスク表面に対する潤滑剤の吸着を促進させる。この後、Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer(FT−IR)でディスク上の化合物の平均膜厚を測定する。この膜厚をfÅとする。次に、このディスクをVertrel−XF中に10分間浸漬し、速度10mm/sで引き上げた後、室温下で静置して溶媒を揮発させる。この後、ディスク上に残った化合物の平均膜厚をFT−IRで測定する。この膜厚をbÅとする。ディスクとの吸着性の強弱を示す指標として、一般に用いられているボンド率を採用した。ボンド率は、下記式で表される。

試験例2 粘度測定
東京計器製E型粘度計(VISCONIC ED形)を用いて、20℃における潤滑剤の絶対粘度を測定した。
試験例3 酸化アルミニウムに対する耐分解性の評価
潤滑剤1~4に、それぞれ20重量%のAl2O3を入れ、強く振とうしたのち超音波でさらに良く混合することにより、耐分解性評価用の試料を調製する。耐分解性の評価は、熱分析装置(TG/TDA)を用いて、250℃で100分間加熱した後の潤滑剤の重量減少率を測定することにより行なった。試料は20mg、測定は窒素雰囲気下で行なった。また比較のため、Al2O3を添加せず、潤滑剤そのものを20mg使用し、同様の熱分析を行った。
また比較のため、下記式(I)において、n=1である潤滑剤5、およびn=5である潤滑剤6を使用した。さらに、潤滑剤5において、Rfの末端に位置する−CH2OHを、第一級と第二級の水酸基の両方を有する−CH2OCH2CH(OH)CH2OHに変成した潤滑剤7も使用した。
Rはm−CF3であり、Rfは、−CF2O(CF2CF2O)x(CF2O)yCF2−である。xは4.9、yは4.7である。分子量分布は1.28である。
なお、特許文献1(特開2000−260017)の実施例1にしたがい、潤滑剤の合成を試みたが、6員環ホスファゼンとフルオロポリエーテルが複雑に重合したゴム状物質が得られた。本発明の目的は、耐分解性を有しており、かつ良好な吸着性と流動性を両立する潤滑剤組成物を提案することであり、ゴム状物質が得られる特許文献1の技術では、本発明の目的は達成できないことは明白である。
試験例1,2および3の結果を表1に示す。これらの結果から、まず、本発明の潤滑剤は、フルオロポリエーテル主鎖の置換数が1であり、かつ水酸基数が1つである潤滑剤5に比べて、良好なボンド率を示すことがわかる。また、流動性の指標である絶対粘度においては、フルオロポリエーテル主鎖の置換数が5であり、水酸基を合計5つ有する潤滑剤6、ならびにフルオロポリエーテル主鎖の置換数が1であり、かつ当該主鎖の片方の末端に2種の水酸基を有する潤滑剤7に比べて、本発明の潤滑剤は、低粘度であることがわかる。酸化アルミニウムに対する耐分解性においては、いずれの潤滑剤においても酸化アルミニウムによる重量減少の増加は顕著に見られず、良好な耐分解性を有していることがわかる。なかでも、本発明の潤滑剤は重量減少がほとんど見られず、特に良好である。以上の結果より、本発明の、分子中にシクロホスファゼン基と水酸基を有するフルオロポリエーテル潤滑剤において、水酸基の級数を第一級に限定し、さらにフルオロポリエーテル主鎖の置換数と分子量を、それぞれ特定の値にした潤滑剤は、耐分解性を有しており、かつ吸着性と流動性(粘性)を両立できることが確認できた。
潤滑剤1~4を、それぞれDuPont製Vertrel−XFに溶解する。この溶液の濃度は0.05重量%である。直径3.5インチの磁気ディスクをこの溶液に1分間浸漬し、速度2mm/sで引き上げた。その後150℃で10分間乾燥し、塗布された化合物の膜厚をFT−IRで測定した。
結果を表2に示す。これらの結果から、耐分解性を有しており、かつディスク上で吸着性と流動性を両立できる本発明の潤滑剤を有する磁気ディスクを作製できることが確認された。
Claims (7)
- nが実質的に3または4であり、x、y、zはそれぞれ、上記数平均分子量が500~1500となる0または正の実数である請求項1に記載の潤滑剤。
- nが実質的に3であり、x、y、zはそれぞれ、上記数平均分子量が800~1200となる0または正の実数であり、さらに該フルオロポリエーテルの分子量分布=1.0~1.3である請求項2に記載の潤滑剤。
- 支持体上に少なくとも記録層、保護層を形成し、その表面に潤滑層を有する磁気ディスクにおいて、該潤滑層が下記式(I)で表される化合物を含有する磁気ディスク
式中nは実質的に2、3または4であり、RはC1~4のフルオロアルキル基である。Rfは、−CF2O(CF2CF2O)x(CF2O)yCF2−又は−CF2CF2O(CF2CF2CF2O)zCF2CF2−である。x、y、zはそれぞれ、上記Rfを含むHOCH2−Rf−CH2OHで示されるフルオロポリエーテルの数平均分子量が500~2000となる0または正の実数である。該フルオロポリエーテルの分子量分布(PD、重量平均分子量/数平均分子量)=1.0~1.5である。 - nが実質的に3または4であり、x、y、zはそれぞれ、上記数平均分子量が500~1500となる0または正の実数である請求項4に記載の磁気ディスク。
- nが実質的に3であり、x、y、zはそれぞれ、上記数平均分子量が800~1200となる0または正の実数であり、さらに該フルオロポリエーテルの分子量分布=1.0~1.3である請求項5に記載の磁気ディスク。
- 片方の末端に水酸基を有し、かつ他方の末端にエステル基またはシリル基またはアルコキシ基を有するHOCH2−Rf−CH2OA(Aはエステル基またはシリル基またはアルコキシ基を示す。)で示される直鎖フルオロポリエーテルと、(RC6H4O)6−n−(P3N3)−Xnで表されるハロゲン原子をn個有するシクロホスファゼン化合物を反応させる式(I)で示される分子中にシクロホスファゼン基と水酸基を有するフルオロポリエーテルの製造方法
式中nは実質的に2、3または4であり、RはC1~4のフルオロアルキル基である。Rfは、−CF2O(CF2CF2O)x(CF2O)yCF2−又は−CF2CF2O(CF2CF2CF2O)zCF2CF2−である。x、y、zはそれぞれ、上記Rfを含むHOCH2−Rf−CH2OHで示されるフルオロポリエーテルの数平均分子量が500~2000となる0または正の実数である。該フルオロポリエーテルの分子量分布(PD、重量平均分子量/数平均分子量)=1.0~1.5である。
