Definitions

  • This invention relates to medical devices, and more specifically to endosseous implants.
  • osseointegration namely the creation of new, healthy bone tissue over most of the implant surface, with no fibrous tissue between them. It has been proposed that the biological process leading to and maintaining osseointegration is dependent upon a number of factors which include, amongst others, the surface area of the implant available for interaction. This is mainly dependant upon the geometry of the implant; its length and diameter, and the thread pitch and width.
  • the present invention provides an endosseous implant.
