Abstract

 簡便に燃料を供給でき、効率的な発電が可能な燃料電池を提供すること。酵素を触媒として酸化還元反応が進行することにより起電する燃料電池であって、燃料の気化により形成される燃料気化層と、該燃料気化層から気化された燃料が供給される負極と、該負極とプロトン伝導可能な状態で接続する正極と、を少なくとも備える燃料電池を提供する。該燃料電池は、燃料を気化させた状態で電極に供給するため、電極内部まで気化した燃料が供給され、電極内部表面における反応が十分に進行し、効率的な発電による高出力化が実現できる。また、電極に酵素等を固定化する場合であっても、燃料を気化させた状態で電極に供給するため、液体燃料中への酵素等の溶出を防止することができ、酵素等の溶出による出力低下を防止することが可能となる。
