Abstract

本発明は、基板上に少なくとも磁性層、および保護層が順次に形成されてなる磁気記録媒体の磁性層を部分的に加工して凹凸パターンを形成してパターンドメディア型の磁気記録媒体を製造する方法であって、磁気記録媒体は、保護層上に、第１マスク層、および樹脂マスク層を順次備え、磁気記録媒体の樹脂マスク層、および第１マスク層を部分的に加工して除去する工程、マスクされていない保護層、および磁性層を部分的に加工して除去する工程、除去されていない第１マスク層材料とのみと反応するガス成分を用いて、第１マスク層と一緒に樹脂マスク層を除去する工程、を備えることを特徴とする方法を提供する。
