Abstract

 本発明は、表示画像での色再現性を改善させることができ、表示品位を向上させることができる表示装置を提供することを目的とする。 液晶表示装置(1)は、バックライト装置(3)と、バックライト装置(3)からの照明光を用いて、情報をカラー表示可能に構成された液晶パネル(2)を具備する。バックライト装置(3)では、液晶パネル(2)に設けられた複数の表示エリアに対して、複数の照明エリア(Ha)が設定されており、各照明エリア(Ha)毎に、白色光に混色可能なRGBの発光ダイオード(光源)(8r、8g、8b)が設けられている。制御部には、入力された映像信号を用いて、複数の各照明エリア(Ha)から対応する表示エリアに入射される光の輝度値を光源毎に決定して、バックライト部の駆動制御を行うバックライト制御部が設けられ、エリアアクティブバックライト駆動が行われる。 RGBの発光ダイオード(光源)(8r、8g、8b)では、オフセット輝度が互いに独立して設定される。
