Abstract

 光源としてのコストを低減し、さらに温度特性の影響を排除してより正確な画像表示が行えるようにした、アクティブバックライト方式の画像表示装置およびこの画像表示装置に用いて好適な照明装置を提供する。いわゆるアクティブバックライト方式の表示装置であって、照明装置(2)が、複数の分割表示領域(6a)とそれぞれ一対一で対応づけられている、前記分割表示領域(6a)の数とおなじ個数の複数の光源(4)と、前記光源(4)から放射された光をその光源(4)が対応づけられている前記分割表示領域(6a)に伝達してこれを照射する光伝達媒体(3)とを有し、前記複数の光源(4)の輝度を個別に制御することで照射光量を制御する。
