Abstract

本发明揭示一种影像显示系统。此系统包括:半穿反式显示面板及相对设置的光源模块。光源模块包括:导光板、多个第一发光二极管、多个第二发光二极管及发光控制单元。导光板具有分别对应于半穿反式显示面板的第一显示区及第二显示区的第一部及第二部。每一第一发光二极管为白色发光二极管且经由导光板的第一部而将其发出的光线传送至第一显示区,而第二发光二极管包括红色、绿色及蓝色发光二极管且经由导光板的第二部而将其发出的光线传送至第二显示区。发光控制单元电性连接至第一及第二发光二极管。

Description

影像显示系统
技术领域
本发明涉及一种平面显示器技术,特别是涉及一种可操作于恒光模式(constant lighting mode)及场序模式(field sequential mode)的半反穿式(transflective)显示装置。
背景技术
由于厚度薄、重量轻及低耗电的特色,平面显示装置解决了阴极射线管(cathode ray tube,CRT)显示技术存在的问题而广泛使用于电子装置中,例如手提电脑、个人数字助理(PDA)、电子书(electronic books)、投影机及手机等。上述平面显示器包括:穿透式(transmissive)显示器及反射式(reflective)显示器,例如液晶显示器(liquid crystal display,LCD)、有机发光显示器(organic light-emitting displ ay,OLED)、电湿润显示器(electrowettingdisplay,EWD)及电泳显示器(electrophoretic display,EPD)等等。
然而,不论是穿透式或反射式的平面显示器都具有其限制而无法满足一般使用者的需求。举例来说,由于背光模块的电力需求,使穿透式显示器难以有效降低电力的损耗且无法在太阳光下呈现良好的效能。再者,反射式显示器受限于环境光(ambient light)且所呈现出对比率及彩饱和度不如穿透式液晶显示器。自发光(self-emissive)型有机发光显示器也存在相似于穿透式显示器的问题,而电泳显示器低响应时间造成换页速度慢且无法操作于视频(video)模式。另外,全彩平面显示器中需使用彩色滤光片,因此会降低平面显示装置的解析度及亮度。
因此,有必要寻求一种新的平面显示器结构,其可解决上述的问题。
发明内容
本发明实施例提供一种影像显示系统,包括:半穿反式显示面板及光源模块。半穿反式(transflective)(半穿透半反射式)显示面板具有第一显示区及与其邻接的第二显示区。光源模块与半穿反式显示面板相对设置,包括:导光板、多个第一发光二极管、多个第二发光二极管及发光控制单元。导光板具有第一部及与其邻接的第二部,其中第一部对应于第一显示区,且第二部对应于第二显示区。第一发光二极管经由导光板的第一部而将其发出的光线传送至第一显示区,而第二发光二极管经由导光板的第二部而将其发出的光线传送至第二显示区。每一第一发光二极管为白色发光二极管,且第二发光二极管包括红色、绿色及蓝色发光二极管。发光控制单元,电性连接于第一及第二发光二极管,使其操作于恒光模式或场序模式。

具体实施方式
以下说明本发明实施例的影像显示系统。图1绘示出根据本发明实施例的具有平面显示器300的影像显示系统剖面示意图。平面显示器300包括:半穿反式显示面板100以及与其相对设置的光源模块200。在本实施例中,光源模块200为背光(backlight)模块,因而设置于半穿反式显示面板100的非显示侧103的下方。在其他实施例中,光源模块200可为前光(front light)模块,且设置于半穿反式显示面板100的显示侧101的上方。
请参照图2,绘示出图1中半穿反式显示面板100平面示意图。在本实施例中,半穿反式显示面板100具有第一显示区100a以及与第一显示区100a邻接的第二显示区100b。需注意的是第一显示区100a及第二显示区100b的面积大小取决于设计需求,而并未局限于图2所示。
请参照图3,其绘示出根据本发明实施例的半穿反式显示面板100剖面示意图。在本实施例中,半穿反式显示面板100为微机电(micro-electro-mechanical system,MEMS)显示面板。半穿反式显示面板100的每一像素包括:上基板10、下基板12以及设置于上基板10及下基板12之间的微机电遮光器(MEMS shutter)18。上基板10及下基板12可由玻璃、石英、或其他透明材料所构成。再者,上基板10及下基板12具有穿透区T及反射区R,其中下基板12的反射区R上设置了反射层20,例如金属层或已知的反射材料层。另外,有源(active)薄膜晶体管(thin film transistor,TFT)阵列(未绘示)设置于上基板10或下基板12,且上下基板10及12均不设置彩色滤光片。在实施例中,有源薄膜晶体管阵列可包括由非晶硅所构成的有源层。在另一实施例中,有源薄膜晶体管阵列可包括由低温多晶硅(low temperature polysilicon,LTPS)所构成的有源(active)层,以进一步改善半穿反式显示面板100的响应时间及灰阶(gray level),并降低其耗电量。
位于反射层20上方的微机电遮光器18与电极14及16电性连接并透过在电极14及16上施加电压,使微机电遮光器18在穿透区T与反射区R之间移动(如图中箭号所示)。在实施例中,微机电遮光器18可为干涉调变器(interferometric modulator),其利用光学干涉原理以选择性地进行光线的吸收及/或反射而达到显示的目的。
请参照图4,其绘示出根据本发明另一实施例的半穿反式显示面板100剖面示意图。在本实施例中,半穿反式显示面板100为液晶显示面板。半穿反式显示面板100的每一像素包括:上基板30、下基板40以及设置于上基板30及下基板40之间的液晶层32。上基板30及下基板40可由玻璃、石英、或其他透明材料所构成。再者,上基板30及下基板40具有穿透区T及反射区R,其中下基板40的反射区R上设置了反射层34,例如金属层或已知的反射材料层。另外,有源薄膜晶体管阵列(未绘示)设置于上基板30或下基板40,且上下基板30及40均不设置彩色滤光片。同样地,有源薄膜晶体管阵列可包括由非晶硅或低温多晶硅所构成的有源层。
图5绘示出图1中光源模块200平面示意图。光源模块200包括导光板201、邻近于导光板201的发光二极管(LED)阵列203以及发光控制单元205。在本实施例中,导光板201具有第一部201a及与其邻接的第二部201b,其中第一部201a对应于半穿反式显示面板100的第一显示区100a(绘示于图2),且第二部201b对应于半穿反式显示面板100的第二显示区100b(绘示于图2)。
发光二极管阵列203包括:多个第一发光二极管203a及多个第二发光二极管203b。在本实施例中,第一发光二极管203a对应于导光板201的第一部201a,使第一发光二极管203a所发出的光线经由导光板201的第一部201a而传送至半穿反式显示面板100的第一显示区100a。特别的是每一第一发光二极管203a为白色发光二极管。再者,第二发光二极管203b对应于导光板201的第二部201b,使第二发光二极管203b所发出的光线经由导光板201的第二部201b而传送至半穿反式显示面板100的第二显示区100b。不同于第一发光二极管203a,第二发光二极管203b包括红色、绿色及蓝色发光二极管。在其他实施例中,第二发光二极管203b还包括白色发光二极管、黄色发光二极管或组合,用以进一步改善第二显示区100b的色彩品质。由于半穿反式显示面板100不具有彩色滤光片,因此第一显示区100a仅提供黑白显示(black/white display),而第二显示区100b仍可提供全彩显示。
发光控制单元205电性连接至发光二极管阵列203(即,第一发光二极管203a及第二发光二极管203b),使第一发光二极管203a操作于恒光模式及第二发光二极管203b操作于恒光模式或场序模式。当第一发光二极管203a及/或第二发光二极管203b操作于恒光模式,第一及/或第二显示区100a及/或100b可呈现出黑白显示。当第二发光二极管203b操作于场序模式,第二显示区100b可呈现出黑白显示或全彩显示。
根据上述实施例,由于采用半穿反式显示面板,因此使用者可在不同的环境中选择穿透模式操作或反射模式操作,使平面显示装置处于高效率操作(efficient operation)。再者,由于采用可场序及恒光操作的光源模块且半穿反式显示面板不具有彩色滤光片,因此可提升平面显示装置的解析度及亮度并进一步降低面板在穿透模式操作中的耗电量。再者,由于半穿反式显示面板具有全彩显示区,因此面板可操作于视频模式。另外,由于面板中采用了微机电遮光器或液晶层,因此相较于电泳显示器而言,可具有快速响应。
图6绘示出根据本发明另一实施例的影像显示系统方块示意图,其可实施于电子装置500,例如:投影机、电子书(e-reader)、笔记型电脑、手机、数字相机、个人数字助理(personal digital assistant,PDA)、桌上型电脑、电视机、车用显示器、或携带型DVD播放器。根据本发明的半穿反式面板100及光源模块200可设置于平面显示器300,而平面显示器300可为微机电显示器或液晶显示器。在实施例中,平面显示器300可设置于电子装置500。如图6所示,电子装置500包括:平面显示器300及输入单元400。输入单元400耦接至平面显示器300,用以提供输入信号(例如,影像信号)至平面显示器300,使平面显示器300显示影像。
虽然本发明已以优选实施例披露如上,然其并非用以限定本发明,任何所属技术领域中普通技术人员,在不脱离本发明的精神和范围内,当可作更动与润饰,因此本发明的保护范围当视权利要求所界定为准。

Claims (10)

1.一种影像显示系统,包括:
半穿反式显示面板,具有第一显示区及与其邻接的第二显示区;以及
光源模块,与该半穿反式显示面板相对设置,包括:
导光板,具有第一部及与其邻接的第二部,其中该第一部对应于该第一显示区,且该第二部对应于该第二显示区;
多个第一发光二极管,经由该导光板的该第一部而将其发出的光线传送至该第一显示区;
多个第二发光二极管,经由该导光板的该第二部而将其发出的光线传送至该第二显示区;以及
发光控制单元,电性连接至该多个第一发光二极管及该多个第二发光二极管,使该多个第一发光二极管操作于恒光模式及该多个第二发光二极管操作于场序模式;
其中每一第一发光二极管为白色发光二极管,且该多个第二发光二极管包括红色、绿色及蓝色发光二极管。
2.如权利要求1所述的影像显示系统,其中该多个第二发光二极管还包括白色发光二极管、黄色发光二极管或其组合。
3.如权利要求1所述的影像显示系统,其中该半穿反式显示面板为微机电显示面板或液晶显示面板。
4.如权利要求1所述的影像显示系统,其中该半穿反式显示面板具有有源薄膜晶体管阵列,且该有源薄膜晶体管阵列包括由非晶硅或低温多晶硅所构成的有源层。
5.如权利要求1所述的影像显示系统,其中该光源模块设置于该半穿反式显示面板的非显示侧下方。
6.如权利要求1所述的影像显示系统,其中该光源模块设置于该半穿反式显示面板的显示侧上方。
7.如权利要求1所述的影像显示系统,其中该半穿反式显示面板不具有彩色滤光片。
8.如权利要求1所述的影像显示系统,还包括:
平面显示器,包括该半穿反式显示面板及该光源模块;以及
输入单元,耦接至该平面显示器,用以提供输入信号至该平面显示器,使该平面显示器显示影像。
9.如权利要求8所述的影像显示系统,其中该影像显示系统包括具有该平面显示器的电子装置。
10.如权利要求9所述的影像显示系统,其中该电子装置包括:投影机、电子书、笔记型电脑、手机、数字相机、个人数字助理、桌上型电脑、电视机、车用显示器、或携带型DVD播放器。
