Abstract

 ネマチック相の高い上限温度、ネマチック相の低い下限温度、小さな粘度、大きな光学異方性、大きな誘電率異方性、大きな比抵抗、紫外線に対する高い安定性、熱に対する高い安定性などの特性において、少なくとも1つの特性を充足する、または少なくとも2つの特性に関して適切なバランスを有する液晶組成物を提供する。短い応答時間、大きな電圧保持率、大きなコントラスト比、長い寿命などを有するAM素子を提供する。  第一成分として大きな光学異方性を有し、そして大きな誘電率異方性を有する特定の五環化合物、第二成分として小さな粘度を有する特定の化合物、および第三成分として高い上限温度を有する特定の四環化合物を含有し、そしてネマチック相を有する液晶組成物、およびこの組成物を含有する液晶表示素子である。
