Abstract

Disclosed is a novel apparatus wherein an olefin, hydrogen and oxygen are used for producing an epoxy compound corresponding to the olefin. Specifically disclosed is an apparatus having a reaction chamber wherein hydrogen, oxygen and an olefin are reacted with each other in a liquid solvent in the presence of a catalyst, thereby producing an epoxy compound derived from the olefin. This apparatus is characterized in that the gas phase in the reaction chamber contains an inert gas. The apparatus is further characterized by comprising a means for supplying hydrogen, an oxygen containing-gas having an oxygen concentration of at least 90% by volume and an olefin to the gas phase and/or liquid phase in the reaction chamber for reaction, and taking the liquid phase containing a reaction product out of the reaction chamber.
