Abstract

THE INVENTION IS AIMED TO ENHANCE THE CONTROLLABILITY OF A REACTOR TEMPERATURE AND THE CONVERSION IN SYNTHESIZING, FOR EXAMPLE, DIMETHYL ETHER FROM METHANOL BY AN EQUILIBRIUM EXOTHERMIC REACTION.IN THE INVENTION, PLURAL CATALYST BEDS (22A,22B) ARE PROVIDED WITHIN A REACTOR (20), A QUENCH ZONE (Q) IS PROVIDED BETWEEN THE CATALYST BEDS, AND A FLUID CONTAINING AT LEAST EITHER ONE OF DIMETHYL ETHER AND WATER PRODUCED TOGETHER WITH DIMETHYL ETHER IS FED AS A QUENCH FLUID INTO THIS QUENCH ZONE.
