Definitions
- the present invention relates to a sanitary appliance for the collection and elimination of organic refuse. It relates in particular to an appliance comprising a WC and means for generating a flushing flow therein.
- WCs are usually made of ceramic.
- a bowl for collecting organic refuse is present therein, together with a sanitary trap connected to the bowl via an outlet.
- the trap is often made of the same material as the bowl.
- the bowl also comprises a ring for distributing flushing liquid over the bowl walls.
- the distribution ring is also made of the same ceramic as the bowl and is formed integral with the bowl. This ring is fed with pressurized water during refuse discharge. The water feeding the ring either arrives directly from the water main via a valve which is operated when required
- An object of the present invention is therefore to provide a sanitary appliance for the collection and elimination of organic refuse which always provides optimal cleaning of the bowl, eliminating any need for manual intervention.
- Figure 1 is a section through an appliance formed in accordance with the present invention
- Figure 2 is a very schematic view showing a detail of the appliance of Figure 1
- Figure 3 is a simplified perspective view of the appliance of Figure 1 ;
- FIGS 4, 5 and 6 are schematic diagrams of alternative embodiments of the appliance of Figure 1.
- a sanitary appliance for the collection and elimination of organic refuse indicated overall by 1. It comprises a ceramic bowl 2.
- a sanitary trap 3 is integrated into the appliance (and in particular into the bowl) and is connected directly to an outlet 4 provided in the base of the bowl 2.
- the appliance also comprises a cistern 6, connected by pipes to a distribution ring for a flushing liquid (generally water) contained in the cistern 6.
- the cistern 6 comprises known means for its filling to a predetermined level; these are not shown.
- the cistern content is indicatively three litres, this being the fluid quantity necessary to effect correct bowl flushing.
- a dip tube is inserted into the cistern 6 and directly connected to the intake of a pump 10.
- the pump presents a delivery connected to the distribution ring 7 via a first shutoff valve 8.
- the pump delivery is also connected to a conduit 11 feeding a nozzle 12 inserted into the sanitary trap 3; the conduit is intercepted by a second valve.
- the nozzle opens into the first concave part of the trap, directly downstream of the bowl outlet 4.
- the nozzle is orientated such as to aid the exit flow through the trap by creating a sucking effect on the organic materials present in the bowl.
- the distribution ring is made of synthetic material and is applied to the bowl at its top (rim), in a suitably arranged recess.
- the ring presents a plurality of delivery nozzles, each of which generates a flushing jet. These jets have a particular orientation to the bowl walls.
- Figure 2 shows the inclination ⁇ present between the bowl wall 15 and the jet direction, while Figure 3 indicates by ⁇ the jet inclination to the horizontal A.
- the angle ⁇ lies between 0° and 30°, preferably 20°, while the angle ⁇ lies between 20° and 60°, preferably 40°.
- the nozzles are specifically orientated to give the flushing fluid an anticlockwise rotation.
- the appliance of Figure 1 presents the bowl, the cistern, the ring, the sanitary trap and the pump integrated into a single unit, hence making it particularly versatile.
- a pump powering battery can also be provided, integrated into the appliance. It will be noted that for representational simplicity, the electrical connections are not shown in Figure 1.
- the appliance in question also comprises a control circuit for controlling the valves 8 and 9 and the pump. Pushbuttons are also provided connected to the control circuit for selecting its manner of operation. The invention operates in the following manner.
- the control circuit operates the pump 10 and, when the fluid is under pressure, opens the first valve 8 to generate a bowl cleaning flow.
- the control circuit then also opens the valve 9 and the nozzle 12 creates a jet which puts the bowl interior under negative pressure, facilitating the expulsion of the organic refuse present in the bowl, via the trap.
- the combination of the flow generated by the optimally directed nozzles, its pressure and the sucking effect, provides excellent cleaning of the bowl surface from the organic refuse.
- the WC of the present invention is fitted with two pushbuttons. A first enables a light cycle with a water quantity from 1 litre to 1.5 litres to be set, while the second sets a normal cycle with a water quantity from 2 to 3 litres. It should be noted that the presence of the pump enables the appliance to also be used in a configuration in which the cistern 6 is below the level of the distribution ring 7.
- Figure 4 shows a device of the present invention represented very schematically. It shows for simplicity the bowl/ring/cistern/trap unit indicated by 30, the pump 10, and a collector 31 connected to the trap.
- the collector can also be integrated into the aforedescribed appliance, or can be provided separately.
- the collector is connected to the trap by a pipe 38 intercepted by a valve 32. It also comprises an exit 39, also intercepted by a valve.
- the collector is also connected by a line 36 to the delivery of the pump 10 and by a line 37 to the intake of the pump 10. Each of these lines is intercepted by a respective valve 36, 37, controlled by said control circuit.
- the collector In use, the collector is put under negative pressure via the line 37 (with the valve 33 open and the valves 32, 35 and 34 closed), by the pump 10, when this is not operating to pressurize the fluid of the cistern 6.
- the valve 34 When the collector is under negative pressure the valve 34 is also closed.
- discharge is activated, the valve 32 is opened and not only is there a sucking effect generated by the nozzle inserted into the trap, but there is also further outdrawing of the refuse caused by the negative pressure present in the collector.
- the pump 10 When the collector is full, the pump 10 is reversed to pressurize the collector, and the valves 34 and 35 are opened to discharge the collector contents.
- valve 35 is replaced by a three-way valve able to direct the outflow towards two destinations.
- the discharge can run directly to the sea 42 or to the deck (centralized discharge system).
- FIG 6. A still different embodiment is shown in Figure 6.
- the already started pump 10 is provided to pressurize the liquid originating from the cistern.
- the collector 31 presents a dedicated pump to put this under pressure/vacuum.
- Discharge from the collector again takes place via a three- way valve 40, through a deck discharge line 41 (under negative pressure) or through a direct discharge line 42.
- just the deck discharge connection or just the direct sea connection could be provided.
- the bowl could be made of any other material in addition to ceramic, such as metal, polymer, etc.
- the nozzle 12 could be fed directly via a conduit deriving from the distribution ring 7.
- the pump used to put the discharge system under negative pressure in a ship can also be used to pressurize the fluid fed into the distribution ring.
