Definitions
- the engineering solution is concerned in powered two wheeler (PTW) especially motorcycle; consists of motorcycle frame, steering handlebar, motorcycle seat and footrests.
- the seating geometry on PTWs is defined by two triangles of sitting and by their position related to roadway.
- the fixed position of the steering handlebar, motorcycle seat and footrests is inconvenient. It is possible to change position of the steering handlebar or footrests in some cases, but only with standing motorcycle. It is in principle impossible to change it during riding.
- the impossible sitting position readjustment based on driving style - for high speed driving is advantageous lying position of the motorcyclist.
- the next disadvantage of the fixed sitting geometry is difficult setting of sitting geometry for different users with various physiological characteristics.
- PTW design consists of motorcycle frame, steering handlebar, motorcycle seat and footrests at least. It is in principle steering handlebar, motorcycle seat and footrests positioning on the adjustable mechanisms with possibilities of relative distances setting depending on running speed and/or aerodynamic resistance and/or motorcyclist volition and/or user physiological characteristics and/or other quantities.
- the handlebar is placed on adjustable mechanism in longitudinal (driving direction) , lateral and vertical directions, footrests are placed on adjustable mechanism in longitudinal and vertical directions and motorcycle seat is placed on adjustable mechanism in vertical direction.
- the adjustable mechanism for instance of handlebar, is with advantage in shape in the fig. 5.
- PTW design in accordance with this engineering solution is advantageous especially in possibility of setting distances among steering handlebar, motorcycle seat and footrests during riding.
- This setting allows better sitting position for high speed driving - lower aerodynamic forces, for centre of gravity setting - better stability or braking forces distribution.
- For example for long time trips it is possible to use it for sitting position modification during drive. It declines the level of tiredness from sitting monotony and declines risk of driver's reaction delay, for example when motorcyclist feet aren't on footrests.
- the distances setting among steering handlebar, motorcycle seat and footrests during ride is possible to use in relation to running speed and/or aerodynamic resistance and/or motorcyclist volition and/or user physiological characteristics and/or other quantities, eventually combination of quantities mentioned above.
- the trajectory of adjustable components i.e. steering handlebar, footrests and motorcycle seat can be created regarding statistics of fixed sitting geometries. It conforms to safety (handling), driver's view and driver's comfort too. There are some trajectories of the adjustable components on the figs. 6 and 7.
- the adjustable mechanisms could be powered by electromotor or hydraulically .
- the operating elements of brakes, clutch, gearbox, accelerator, vehicle lighting and signalling move together with steering handlebar and footrest . It is necessary for technical directives observance - driver control reach.
- the driving mirrors and other elements of frontal and rear view can be functionally dependent on triangle of sitting too.
- the proposed solution is efficient from design, speed of adjustment, lifetime, reliability, economical operation, ecological and legislation unexceptionable and weight points of view too.
- the adjustment is fluent without vehicle driving distraction. It can be carried out during riding or with standing vehicle.
- Powered two wheeler design especially design of motorcycle based on this engineering solution is described by means of following pictures: fig. 1 - triangle of sitting, steering handlebar-footrest-motorcycle seat and dimension among these elements and roadway.
- Fig. 2 - triangle of sitting, left grip-right grip-centre of motorcycle seat.
- Fig. 3 sport motorcycle, triangle of sitting.
- Fig. 4 - travelling motorcycle, triangle of sitting.
- Fig. 5 - example of steering handlebar adjustable mechanism in axonometric view, rotation and translation in accordance with arrows.
- Fig. 6 examples of steering handlebar, footrests and motorcycle seat trajectories - side view.
- Fig. 7 - example of steering handlebar trajectory - floor projection.
- Fig. 8 directions in accordance with fully dimensional reference system (ISO 6725) . Examples of the invention
- motorcycle consists of motorcycle frame with steering handlebar, motorcycle seat and footrests at least.
- Steering handlebar, motorcycle seat and footrests are situated on the adjustable mechanisms for mutual different distances setting dependent on running speed and/or air resistance and/or drivers volition.
- Steering handlebar and footrests are placed on the adjustable mechanism for translation in vertical direction and/or longitudinal (driving) direction.
- Motorcycle seat is placed on the adjustable mechanism for vertical translation.
- Steering handlebar is equipped with mechanism enabling perpendicular translation on driving direction.
- a translation mechanism of the grips in cut holes can be performed by gear-type transmission, wire strand or rods.
- a source of force for translation and rotation is electromotor powering cog wheels or pump for hydraulic power transmission.
- the mechanism is locked in required position by tightening of female screws after sitting geometry setting.
- the steering handlebar translation mechanism enabling perpendicular translation on driving direction is performed by con rods. These con rods are eccentrically connected with rotary crank.
- the footrests translation and range is designed similarly.
- the motorcycle seat is translated in vertical direction only by movement of rod. It is possible to solve by incurvation of motorcycle seat for short ranges or by seat translation for large ranges. It depends on motorcycle seat structure stiffness.
- This process is managed based on sensing information (speedometer, accelerator position etc.) or volition of driver.
