Abstract

A method of towing a carriage by an unmanned vehicle for transporting various articles in an unmanned manner in a plant and a warehouse, and a towing device used for the method. The carriage (2) has free front wheels and fixed rear wheels. A connection receiver (2a) is provided at a front corner of the carriage (2). The carriage (2) is set to standby in an arrangement and direction enabling the carriage (2) to travel side by side with the unmanned vehicle (1) along a guide path (3). A towing device (20) to be connected to the connection receiver (2a) of the carriage (2) is provided at the unmanned vehicle (1). When a towing requirement arises, the connection receiver (2a) of the carriage (2) on standby is connected to the towing device (20) of the unmanned vehicle (1), and in that state, the unmanned vehicle (1) is caused to tow the carriage (2). An arrival position setting device (11) for automatically disconnecting the towing device (20) is installed at the position of arrival of the carriage (2) towed by and traveling side by side with the unmanned vehicle (1). The towing device is automatically disconnected by the arrival position setting device (11), and with the carriage (2) left in that position, the unmanned vehicle (1) is caused to advance forward to a target position.
