Abstract

　複屈折性透光性基材（４３）とその一方の面に付加されたプリズム列形成部（４４）とを有するプリズムシートの製造方法。プリズム列形成部（４４）は基材（４３）に接する面とは反対の側の面に互いに平行に配列された複数のプリズム列（４１１）が形成されている。製造方法は、基材（４３）の一方の面と型部材との間に活性エネルギー線硬化性組成物を供給し、それを硬化させてプリズム列形成部（４４）を形成する工程を含む。この工程では、一次光源と、導光体と、プリズムシートと、液晶表示素子とを含んでなる液晶表示装置を組み立てた際に、その観察側から見て、導光体の光入射端面の延びる方向に対し液晶表示素子の光入射側の偏光板の偏光透過軸方向がなす角度をｘ［度］とし、導光体の光入射端面の延びる方向に対しプリズムシートの基材（４３）の光学軸の方向がなす角度をｙ［度］として、ｙの値が（０．５ｘ－４６）の値により近くなるように、プリズム列形成部（４４）を付加すべき基材（４３）の一方の面を選択する。この選択された面上にプリズム列形成部（４４）を形成する。
