Abstract

 明るい白表示、高コントラストの白黒表示及びフルカラー表示を簡便な部材構成で実現することができる新規な電気化学的な表示素子は、対向電極間に電解質を含有し、対向電極の少なくとも一方に有機化合物を配位子とする金属錯体を含有した高分子膜が形成されており、該高分子膜は少なくとも2種の金属と該少なくとも2種の金属と配位する化合物とを含有し、該金属を介して該化合物同士が連結され、且つ該金属の酸化または還元反応によって少なくとも2つの着色状態を呈し、且つ該高分子膜が形成されている方の電極の表面積に対する該高分子膜の被覆率が20%以上80%以下であり、且つ電解質に銀または銀を化学構造中に含む化合物を含有していることを特徴とする。
