Abstract

 本発明の目的は、表示映像の内容によらず、周囲の環境の明るさ(環境光)を考慮して表示映像の輝度分布を調整することが可能な光源装置を提供することにある。外光センサ(16)は、装置周囲の外光(環境光Ls)を受光する。 そして受光した環境光Lsの光量に応じて、バックライト制御部(12)が光源部(10)内の各部分点灯部の発光量をそれぞれ制御する。 また、このような環境光Lsの光量に加え、RGBプロセス処理部(60)から供給されるRGB信号に含まれる映像の輝度情報を加味して各部分点灯部の発光量をそれぞれ制御する。本発明は、バックライト装置を含む透過型の液晶表示装置に適用できる。
