Abstract

A method of polymeric-fiber pretreatment for plating which comprises: a first step in which a polymeric fiber material comprising a polymeric fiber yarn wound into a roll without using a core or on a porous tube as a core is immersed in a supercritical fluid or subcritical fluid containing an organometallic complex to thereby adhere the organometallic complex to the surface of the polymeric fiber; and a second step in which the organometallic complex adherent to the polymeric-fiber surface is reduced to activate it. Also provided is a process for producing a polymeric fiber having a coating film made of a metal, metal oxide, or metal sulfide, the process comprising: a step in which a polymeric fiber material comprising a polymeric fiber yarn wound into a roll without using a core or on a porous tube as a core is immersed in a supercritical fluid or subcritical fluid containing an organometallic complex to thereby adhere the organometallic complex to the surface of the polymeric fiber; and a step in which the organometallic complex adherent to the polymeric-fiber surface is reduced, oxidized, or sulfurized.
