- v is adjusted in the range of 1 ⁇ 8 to 2 ⁇ 2 so that it becomes a value around 2.
- the value has been adjusted to around 6 to maintain electrical neutrality.
- the blending amount of Sr and Ba is adjusted so that X is preferably 0, 25-0.50.
- X represents the molar ratio of Ba at the (Sr, Ba) site, and the range thereof is not particularly limited as long as a sufficient electro-optic effect can be obtained. However, if the molar ratio X is in the range of 0.25-0.50, the translucency can be reliably ensured, and a desired electrochemical effect can be obtained. The amount of self-bonding between Sr and Ba is adjusted so that X is preferably 0, 25 to 0.50.
- the element M is composed of at least one element of Zn and Mg, and the blending amount of Nb and the element M is adjusted so that the molar ratio y is 0.004 or more! /
- the molar ratio y indicating the substitution ratio with respect to Nb is less than 0.004
- the content of the element M in the Nb site is too small, so that the substitution effect by the element M cannot be exhibited. That is, an orthorhombic hetero phase other than tetragonal crystal is formed in the crystal phase, so that the desired translucency cannot be obtained, and the sinterability may be lowered.
- the blending amounts of the composition components are adjusted so that the molar ratio y is at least 0.004 or more.
- the upper limit of the molar ratio y is not particularly limited, and the transmittance can be improved as the molar ratio y increases. However, if the molar ratio y exceeds 0.016, abnormal grain growth of crystal grains may be caused. Therefore, from the viewpoint of suppressing abnormal grain growth of crystal grains, the molar ratio y is preferably 0.016 or less.
- the element M does not affect the desired optical characteristics as a light-transmitting ceramic because it replaces a part of Nb in a molar ratio y of 0.004 or more and dissolves in the Nb site. Within the range, a small amount of element M may be dissolved in the Sr site, or may exist at the grain boundary or at the crystal triple point.
- the molar ratio y is set to 0, 016 or less, generation of abnormal grain growth of crystal grains can be suppressed.
- the force S can be surely exerted the above-mentioned effects.
- the permeable ceramic can be preferably produced by the following method.
- a raw material powder having a tetragonal single phase as a crystal phase is prepared using a solid phase method.
- at least one of Sr compound, Ba compound, Nb compound, Zn compound and Mg compound is prepared as a ceramic raw material as a starting material.
- the form of the compound may be any of oxide, hydroxide, carbonate and the like.
- the calcined powder is subjected to a forming process such as press forming to produce a ceramic formed body. It is also preferable to apply a hydrostatic pressure press to the pressed body after press molding to obtain a ceramic molded body before firing. By thus applying a hydrostatic pressure press to the press body, the compactness after firing is improved. Therefore, a ceramic sintered body with better uniformity can be obtained.
- the ceramic molded body is subjected to a firing treatment for a predetermined time in an oxygen atmosphere having a maximum temperature of 1300 to; 1500 ° C. and an oxygen concentration of 90% or more, whereby a highly dense ceramic sintered body is obtained. Is obtained.
- the ceramic molded body is embedded in a ceramic powder having substantially the same composition as the ceramic molded body, or is brought into contact with a sintered body having substantially the same composition as the ceramic molded body. Further, the denseness is improved, and it is effective in improving the transmittance and suppressing the scattering.
- substantially the same composition does not necessarily have to be the same composition.
- Sr, Ba, and Nb are contained because they are main components of the tungsten bronze type compound. This means that other low-content elements (eg, Mg and Zn) are not necessarily included! //!
- the ceramic sintered body is cut and ground to a predetermined size, and further polished and polished so that the surface has a predetermined thickness, thereby smoothing the surface.
- a translucent ceramic material is produced.
- the translucent ceramic can be manufactured by a solid phase method, a desired transmissive ceramic can be obtained relatively easily without complicating a manufacturing process such as a wet method. Ability to do S.
- the ceramic raw materials suitable for the final composition are weighed and manufactured by the solid phase method, it is possible to suppress the occurrence of so-called “composition deviation” as in the wet method, and the permeation having the desired composition. Can be produced with high efficiency.
- Mg compound and Zn compound are weighed simultaneously with Sr compound, etc. and mixed to obtain calcined powder, and then the molding process is performed. First, Sr compound, Ba compound, and Nb compound are mixed. Then, after calcining and preparing a calcined powder, the Mg compound or Zn compound may be added to the calcined powder, mixed, and then subjected to a molding process through heat treatment or the like.
- the present invention can appropriately control the electro-optic effect by adding various additive components to the main component, or by replacing some of the constituent elements of the main component with other elements.
- the transmittance can be improved.
- the main component contains at least one of Sn and Bi.
- Sn or Bi are converted to SnO and BiO with respect to 100 parts by weight of the main component, and 0.58 weights.
- the crystal grain growth is excessively promoted and abnormal grain growth may occur, which is not preferable. Therefore, even if Sn or Bi is added, the content is preferably less than 0.58 parts by weight in terms of SnO or BiO with respect to 100 parts by weight of the main component.
- the existence form of Sn or Bi in the ceramic is not particularly limited, and any of the (Sr, Ba) sites and Nb sites is within a range that does not affect the electro-optical characteristics. It may be present at a crystal grain boundary or a crystal triple point which may be dissolved in the crystal.
- the manufacturing method in this case also includes mixing SnO powder or BiO powder with calcined powder, and performing heat treatment.
- SnO powder and BiO powder are ceramics such as Sr compounds.
- They may be mixed with the raw materials at an initial stage, and the mixture may be calcined for production.
- the present invention preferably contains Na as necessary.
- the ferroelectricity can be slightly strengthened, and the electro-optical characteristics can be appropriately controlled. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a desired translucent ceramic according to the application. Become.
- the present invention preferably contains La as required.
- the ferroelectricity can be slightly weakened, and the electro-optical characteristics can be appropriately controlled, so that a desired translucent ceramic according to the application can be obtained. .
- ferroelectricity is an index of electro-optical characteristics.
- the degree of ferroelectricity is determined by measuring the axial ratio of crystal axes in a crystal system by X-ray diffraction. To evaluate I can do it. Alternatively, evaluation can also be made by forming electrodes on both main surfaces of the translucent ceramic, applying an electric field, and observing the D—E hysteresis loop between the electric displacement D and the electric field E.
- Na and La often dissolve in the (Sr, Ba) site, they may exist at crystal grain boundaries or crystal triple points within a range that does not affect the properties.
- Nb site it is indispensable for the Nb site to substitute a part of Nb with either Mg or Zn, but this affects the optical characteristics without forming a heterogeneous phase in the crystal phase. If not, a part of Nb may be further substituted with another element.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing an embodiment of a waveguide type optical switch as an electro-optical component according to the present invention.
- a waveguide 2 having a branch portion 2a is formed on a ceramic substrate 1 formed of a translucent ceramic of the present invention, and a pair of surface electrodes are sandwiched between the branch portion 2a. 3a and 3b are formed to face each other.
- the optical switch is turned on and off.
- the light switch uses the translucent ceramic of the present invention for the ceramic substrate 1, light can be reliably transmitted, thereby maintaining stable expression of the electro-optic effect. Therefore, a high-performance optical switch can be realized.
- the above-described waveguide type optical switch is merely an example of using the transmissive ceramic of the present invention for an electro-optical component. That is, the translucent ceramic of the present invention is used not only for the above-described waveguide type optical switch but also for various electro-optical components such as an optical shutter having comb-shaped electrodes on both sides of the optical deflection prism type optical switch. Needless to say, it can be applied.
- the main component yarn is composed of (Sr Ba) (Nb M) 0 (M is Mg or Zn, y is 0 ⁇ 0
- the above ceramic raw materials were weighed so that 00 ⁇ y ⁇ 0.030, w was about 6), put into a ball mill and thoroughly wet mixed to obtain a mixture. And after drying this mixture,

[0030] (Sr Ba ) (Nb M ) 0 …(A)
1 x x 1— y y v w
