Definitions
- the present invention relates to an optical fiber ribbon core and an optical fiber cable.
- Optical communication technology is required to strictly manage dispersion characteristics due to the recent increase in capacity including wavelength division multiplexing. For this reason, polarization dispersion characteristics must be managed even for optical fiber cables.
- the cross section of an optical fiber is ideally a perfect circle, but all asymmetries such as deviation from this perfect circle and eccentricity are virtually inherent in the cross section of an optical fiber.
- This non-circularity inside the optical fiber is due to the manufacturing equipment and manufacturing conditions, and therefore tends to be continuous in the longitudinal direction, not just one section of the optical fiber.
- dispersion occurs due to the difference in propagation speed between the X-polarization mode and Y-polarization mode, which are the propagation modes. This is the polarization mode dispersion (PMD).

- a general optical fiber ribbon core is composed of a plurality of optical fiber cores arranged side by side and a ribbon resin covering the optical fiber cores.

- the fiber optic ribbon core wire is made by arranging a plurality of fiber optic core wires in a strip shape, The optical fiber core wires are arranged in contact or non-contact state, and these core wires are collectively covered with a ribbon coating layer.
- the cross section of the Ripon core wire is asymmetric in the thickness direction and the width direction, so that a structural characteristic that the stress applied to each optical fiber varies depending on the position where the optical fiber is arranged is formed.
- an optical fiber ribbon that is obtained by arranging a plurality of optical fibers in a strip shape and integrally surrounding the periphery with a jacket, each individual optical fiber places stress from the jacket formed in its manufacturing process. Therefore, the magnitude and direction of stress differ between the optical fiber arranged inside the ribbon and the optical fiber arranged at the end.

- the optical fiber cable 21 includes an optical fiber ribbon core wire 2, a strength member 23, a slot 24, a groove 25, a presser winding 26, and a sheath 27.
- a set of a plurality of optical fiber ribbon cores 22 has a structure arranged in a spiral or twisted groove 25 engraved in the slot 24.
- an ultraviolet curable resin is used with the outer periphery of four optical fiber core wires 12 arranged in a strip shape as the outer sheath 13.
- a thermoplastic resin, a thermosetting resin, or the like can also be used as the phosphorus resin 13 other than the ultraviolet curable resin.
- the UV curable resin is used as the Ripon resin 1 3 that covers and integrates the periphery of the optical fiber core wires 1 2 arranged in a strip shape
- the Ripon resin 1 3 is in a liquid state at an early stage of the manufacturing process.
- Liquid ribbon resin is applied to parallel optical fibers and cured with a UV lamp through a die of a predetermined size to obtain an optical fiber ribbon core wire 11 having a desired shape and size.
- the resin is cured while its temperature rises due to its own reaction heat and the volume expands.
- the Ripon resin 13 gradually reaches equilibrium with the room temperature, but in the process, the volume of the Ripon resin 13 shrinks, thereby applying shrinkage stress to the optical fiber core wire 12. Since this stress is constant in each cross section of the optical fiber ribbon core 11 and is fixed in the longitudinal direction, the propagation speed of the X polarization mode and the Y polarization mode generated in each cross section of the optical fiber ribbon core 11 is determined. The difference accumulates without being randomized in the longitudinal direction, and the polarization mode dispersion of the optical fiber ribbon core 11 increases.
- the present inventors have contracted the above-mentioned Ripon resin 13 to the optical fiber core wire 12. Focusing on the fact that stress is a factor that increases polarization mode dispersion, and as a result of intensive studies, we used a resin whose ribbon transition temperature 13 is 80 to 130 ° C. As a result, it was found that the shrinkage stress can be kept low, and an optical fiber ribbon core wire having the toughness required for the optical fiber ribbon core wire 11 and the single core splitting property can be obtained.
- the maximum temperature reached is higher than the glass transition temperature of the resin resin.
- Resin materials including UV curable resins are in a rubber state in the temperature range above the glass transition temperature, and the expansion / contraction rate of the volume accompanying the temperature change is approximately 3 in the temperature range below the glass transition temperature in the glass state. Is double. Therefore, in the case of a resin having a high glass transition temperature, the time for which the resin has a high shrinkage rate is shortened in the process of rising to hundreds of degrees and completing the hardening, and then cooling to room temperature. The amount of shrinkage is small compared to materials with a low glass transition temperature. From these viewpoints, a resin having a high glass transition temperature is preferable as the resin material for suppressing the shrinkage stress of the Ripon resin 13 and reducing the polarization mode dispersion.
- the glass transition temperature of the resin is related to a certain degree with the hardness and toughness of the resin. If it is too high, the Ripon resin becomes hard and brittle. It is often difficult to maintain the shape of the Ripon core. In addition, to satisfy the coating removal and single-core splitting properties required for optical fiber core wires, hard and brittle resins can easily break the ribbon resin layer, making it difficult to remove the ribbon resin layer all at once. . On the other hand, when the glass transition temperature is low and the Young's modulus of the ribbon resin is low, the adhesiveness of the ribbon resin becomes relatively high, and the colored layer may be peeled off when the single core is divided, making it difficult to remove the ribbon resin. The problem arises.
- a resin suitable as a resin resin material for reducing polarization mode dispersion has a glass transition temperature in the range of 80 to 130, and a more suitable resin is 90 to 1.
- the range is 2 0.
- the glass transition temperature is within the above range, and the yang ratio is 800 to 2,500 OMPa.

- the monomer for photopolymerization include vinylpyrrolidone, hydroxyethyl chloride, ethyl hexyl relay and the like.
- examples of the photopolymerization initiator include benzophenone compounds, acylphosphine oxide compounds, and acetophenone compounds.
- the compatibility and blending ratio of the photopolymerization monomer to the photopolymerization polymer, the blending of the multifunctional photopolymerization monomer It is possible to control the Young's modulus and glass transition temperature to a desired value to some extent by blending a plurality of photopolymerized prepolymers having different degrees of polymerization (molecular weight).

Description
2 (TEf fect of Fiber Displacements on Stress Dis tribut ion in 8- Fiber RibbonsJ A. Gal tarossaら, ECOC 97, 22-25 Conference Publ icat ion No. 448) )。
